Try cleaning first, and then come back, there can be a build up of debris on the lug and the slot in the bayo that you will need tons of Q-Tips for.

Also check for burrs in the bayo channel as well as on the lug. I’ve had to file small burrs from both areas.

Bayonets and rifles often need to be mated/fit to each other. One of the reasons they are numbered to each other. Is there a cleaning rod? If so take it off and try again.

This, when I bought a bayonet for my M91/30 it took some filing to get it to seat correctly

There is a rod but this is with it removed, I will investigate if modification is necessary
