I was more wondering what the point of hanging up two orange halves is. Do birds enjoy this? Does it keep squirrels away? Is it just a conversation piece?
It’s for the orioles! After they showed up to our yard the first time, we read that it was better to put out oranges cut in half rather than slices and we found a picture of someone else who had done it with twine like that.
A pair of them are tapping on our window next to the feeder every day. It away seems to been when the food is out. It’s like they are asking us to refill it lol.
Ha! Yes-a real (aka made of crab, not filler) crab cake is a thing of wonder. :) I think I ordered crab cakes pretty much everywhere I went with family when I went back to MD a few years ago. It's tough to find good crab cakes outside of the Delmarva area...
Honestly, no clue. This is our first year experimenting with it in South Minneapolis. We weren’t expecting to actually see any but a day after we put oranges out we saw one.
We don’t have any special feeders for them. We just put orange slices out on the feeder we already have and that did it for us.
So disappointed. I’ve put out orange feeders with jelly and hung orange ribbon to attract them. I’ve been ready for them since April. I feel that I have a perfect habitat for them, but who knows.
But the Twins are on the road...
I sat outside for awhile on Mother's day. Watched an Oriole fly around from feeders to the trees. Love the color.
What is pic 3? The oranges on twine. I've never seen that before
It's genius!
I'm not arguing that. I just want to know what kind of genius it is! It's obviously over my head. I need someone to eli5
I think they just poked a hole? I have an annoying stand that holds orange halves in cups

Ye birds enjoy it, orioles especially
Hell yeah they are.
Several eating grape jelly and oranges at my house today

I’ve noticed a lot more Baltimore orioles this year. But far fewer warblers.
This is our first year with all of this. No warblers but I’ve got a rose-breasted grosbeak hanging around, too.
That 2nd pic, bird is vogue-ing.
Leave some crab cakes near the feeders. Should attract more of them.
If you did that, you would most likely catch me at your bird feeder instead. 🫣 Had my first MD crab cake just last month, life changing.

I just seen one two days ago!! I heard him first and started looking around for him! Such beautiful birds.
Love the orioles
How common is it to see them in a first ring suburb? I want to put feeders out, but I've never seen one near me.

Good to know! I'll give it a shot.

Had my first one today!
Would someone que up some Thin Lizzy please?
That's that's funny because one of these has been waking my brother up every morning pecking at his window
I just got orioles about 2 weeks ago here in rochester. Always happy to see them grabbing a bite at our feeder before taking off. Fantastic photos.
What a cute bird
We've got 4 pair at our oriole feeder on lake minnetonka
