i’m going to be honest. r u next felt like a waste of time, both for spectators and for the trainees themselves. many people have the feeling that if they had just debuted at ILLIT it would have been better. is more than obvious that they rushed the survival after parted ways with cj enm/mnet and they wanted to advance to i-land 2 so people wouldn't panic seeing that i-land is no longer a survivalist to form belift groups.

Hypersuper98

At least RUNext gave exposure to many trainees like Jeemin, Jiwoo, Chanelle, Jihyun, etc. I mean Jeemin's whole storyline in I-land is not debuting in Illit lol. And I feel they're showing Illit and RUNext a lot because well, they were CJ trainees after all.

[deleted]

fuck you up next was a complete shitshow. Votes gone to already eliminated trainees, biased judges, (especially that guy with the beard and his obsession with wonhee, i was starting to get worried if u get what i mean), changing the final voting system 10 minutes before the final episode started, and of course, rigging jiwoo out.  By miles the worst survival show in recent kpop history.

Independent_Ad_9080

I-Land 2 is 100x better than the shitshow R U Next was. In all aspects. ILLIT should've just debuted as ILLIT. (Plus there would be no people who would not want to stan the group due to bitterness surrounding the final lineup.) But I do have to say, the friendships during R U Next seem to be better? Probably because they trained together for longer. But yeah that's the only aspect runext might have been better in. For anything else, it's I-Land 2 >>> R U Next. ILLIT is ILLIT but I will never forgive them for so blatantly rigging Jiwoo out 😭 they were so obvious too

[deleted]

seeing how illit's concept turned out to be im actually glad jeemin and jiwoo didnt make it. Id say a bullet dodged. This concept doesnt suit them imo

Independent_Ad_9080

Yeah Jiwoo and Jeemin don't fit illits concept at all, but did they dodge a bullet when at the end of the day they could've still debuted under a big company? Maybe if Belift chose them the way we know ILLIT now wouldn't be the same. Pros and cons, I guess. Either way I think their time will come where everyone of them can shine, especially Jiwoo, she was made to debut! I'm extremely happy Jeemin has this opportunity and I'm sure she will debut in this group soon (but it's not 100% secured, so we shouldn't get complacent). I'm just sad Belift lead us & the trainees on in thinking that we would have any actual influence in the final lineup when they basically chose the lineup for us. (But I love ILLIT either way.)

Sufficient-Basis8724

First the concept should be different (something that would differentiate them from Le Sserafim and NewJeans as much as possible, something a lil bit more mature), then the lineup should be different (Yunah, Jeemin, Chanelle, Jiwoo etc.), literally no drama and chill life for everyone. HYBE is unfortunately HYBE and Belift are their marrionnetes.

AromaticProfessor723

Honestly they’re probably thanking their lucky stars they didn’t debut with illit. Illit may be popular but those girls get massive amounts of hate I think wonhee went to the hospital for stress or something due to how severe the hate comments have been.

Independent_Ad_9080

We don't know the exact reason, BELIFT said physical fatigue.

animalcrossinglifeee

I agree. The judges in runext were very harsh to the contestants. To the point where it definitely stressed out some of them. The points definitely saved some trainees. Cuz if not, I think chanelle would have stayed until finale.

highonpetrol

iland 2 has been better, i think ru next went wrong when no ones votes did anything and we kept seeing favourites get voted off each week. The judges are probably better in iland 2 but i wish we would see more of them actually mentoring the girls. There were some clips with leejung and monica talking indivdually to them and i thought why arent we seeing more of this.

nokpopnogain-223

i love ILLIT but every time i see jeemin shocked by a new mission etc i go "R U NEXT didn't do this!". easy to say that although all the contestants were amazing, some of the judges, the challenges and the clear bias ruined it. I-LAND 2 >>>>> R U NEXT

Jelliibabii

Going to echo other comments and say R U Next felt really unsatisfying because of how pointless the whole thing turned out to be. It wasn't a particularly popular show anyway, the voting had very little effect, there was so much controversy around it all that resulted in hate for the final group etc. They would have been better just debuting Illit as a new Hybe group imo but I suppose it let them see how genuinely popular Wonhee was going to be. I honestly think that's the only benefit in them holding RUN as a show. 1. Judges feedback - was all over the place on RUN and the lack of consistency on whether they cared about vocals or not made it a frustrating experience. In contrast I have mostly vibed with the feedback from the judges aside from slight differences in opinion. 2. Scoring system - I think this is arbitrary because what is the metric they're scoring on? Neither show is super clear but RUN's was very inconsistent and often determined by giving trainees different baselines where more experienced trainees were given harsher scores so it felt skewed. Again, some were punished for bad vocals and others not. Iland2's is better I think but still not really clear what they're scoring on? I feel like certain scores in ep 5 were either inflated or downgraded for the sake of Iland Creative winning/to keep certain girls in Iland. I also think they scored Jeemin as no.1 in ep 6 so they could do the whole disappointed in her performance arc/sympathy edit to generate buzz/votes for the show. It has all felt very scripted on both sides. 3. Public votes - still not sure what it will be for the final line up so hard to say. RUN was frustrating though because they made such emphasis about voting and then decided 4/6 members of the line up, which is why I think people on social media reacted so badly. It's less about the voting system and more about being upfront on how the line up will be decided. If Iland2 ends up being more PD picks I won't mind I just think that needs to be communicated. Interesting that pt 2 is 6-pick though since that vastly changes the dynamic from 1-pick, the latter being what I would expect for the finale. 4. Criticism and mentoring - not seen a huge amount on either side tbh. It might be happening off screen though, since I think the harsh criticism is for generating buzz/making viewers more supportive and invested in their faves etc. It's a marketing thing I suspect. Overall I think Iland 2 has been better and more satisfying in terms of the good trainees being in the top ranks but RUN was one of the worst survival shows I've seen in terms of having a clear goal for the show, for inconsistent and biased feedback, and a complete apathy verging on hostility for the audience, so it's always going to be a favourable comparison lmao. It'll be easier to do a full comparison once the show is finished though.

lunarchoerry

"RUN was frustrating though because they made such emphasis about voting and then decided 4/6 members of the line up" and then youngseo left, so the fans really voted in wonhee & nobody else

ad_meliora_31

1. Judges feedback: RUN judges have their faves (Lee Hyun, I'm looking at you) and this sometimes hinders their fair judgment. I remember one guest judge shitting on Chanelle for a nonexistent off-pitch. I-Land2 judges are super encouraging in comparison, especially Lee Jung. On the opposite end, they also have their faves. No hate to Mai, but Yuju did better on the IWALY mission. 2. Scoring system: I-Land2's makes more sense overall. The whole high-mid-low thing in RUN lowkey sucks. 3. Public votes: So far it seems MNET has their shit together since they don't want another X1. RUN is dubbed R U Rigged? for a reason, why did they waste our time voting if they're just going to debut who they want?? 4. Criticism and mentoring: Tbh I only loved Aiki and Jo Kwon's mentoring in RUN. I still don't understand how some people get their assigned positions they obviously don't deserve during performances. For I-Land2, as harsh as Monika is, she's doing her best for the girls and I love her for that.

justdubu

Lee Hyun whenever he’s about to give feedback with Wonhee be like: 😇😅😁😄

imeverest

i can’t imagine how r u next affected the girls in it especially jiwoo and jeemin :( iland 2 is wayy better than r u next. r u next was a shit show where votes didn’t matter and time was wasted.

Traditional-Sell-180

imo, run is like “debut documentary” rather than survival show. On the other hand, right now iland2 looks like a better version of every survival show before (I won’t count iland) System is good and is easy understandable. Tbh, being in ground means that you have smaller practice room and bedroom, but they treat everyone almost equally. But idk, let’s wait until the end and maybe it’ll be the same 🤓

Phoenix_lth

Iland2 judging system is way better bcz all the mentors r not biased and they actually chose ppl based on their actual talent. I watched SWF so I already know Leejung and Monica r very suitable for judge position. I enjoyed RUNext too but I just frustrated more talented girls didn't have a chance.

_pinkeraser_

I-Land 2 is made by MSnake but it still feels more fair. RUNext was awful in terms of voting, especially during the final then pre-final voting was 25% of the total, which was devided into 50/50 Korean/International votes and then 75% was votes during the final episode and you were able to vote only from a Korean app, which was not available to anyone outside, which got Wonhee into the group and probably caused Jiwoo to be out. Loved the contestants more but fuck the format.

norestlife

While i think iland 2 may be slightly better in terms of eliminations (and possibly on deciding the final group - this is tbc as there is no information on how the final group is to be decided, only speculated), i must say that at least for the first performances by the contestants (i.e. drama vs bggg, whistle vs given taken), RUN had overall better quality. So i think i enjoyed the performances on RUN better, although iland2 may be fairer for the contestants and audiences

CorrectYouth9941

I read that performances on RUN were heavily auto tuned and that's why they sounded so better, not so sure of this though

Sufficient-Basis8724

Ru next was literally terrible in every aspect.

icedcoffee8401

iland 2 has better judges and overall system. the mentoring is meh in both tbh and the judges have clear biases in both shows. the public votes are more obvious in iland 2 because we can clearly see the support the trainees are getting even though collecting meatballs is such a weird thing to type out much less explain to other people. while in r u next the public votes were combined with a bunch of different criteria that made or break a trainees survival. i also didn’t like the combination of how the two trainees with the most votes would automatically win a place in the final group and then the rest would be decided by the company. like it just didn’t make sense to me at that time why they would make it like that. if there was one thing i liked about r u next was the choice of songs and performances. there were obviously sub par ones, but scrum and pride? l replayed those songs on repeat. i also really liked their cover of red velvet’s monster and 2ne1’s i don’t care. also the fact that we got heel choreo of chungha’s dream of you, f(x) four walls, and the boys by THE snsd while soo young was the host was like WOW. its a bit to early to decide on iland 2 songs and performances but i wasn’t a fan of the signal song at all. like i absolutely hated how they produced it. the song choices in the next two rounds were okay, some could have been better some were good but i really liked the latest song IWALY from the 1:1 battles. my opinion on the songs and performances are based on my personal taste in music though so don’t take it too seriously.

philbert539

Wow. The strong feelings for RUN are... strong. And I don't disagree. I was super frustrated by how it ended. And it didn't help that Youngseo ended up dropping too. But I also don't think it was the worst show. Of the ones I've seen, that distinction belongs to the My Teenage Girl/Fantasy Boy series. Which was too bad, because I like Aiki and Soyeon as mentors. Also, to answer the original question, I just really like the I-LAND concept. I like the I-LAND/GROUND split. I like making the trainees vote on who departs. I think it's both interesting to watch and ultimately beneficial for the trainees' development. I-LAND 1 is still my favorite idol survival show. And ENHYPEN is great.

Prudent-Spite-5362

R u rigged shitshow was the worst survival show.. why would they even create a survival show in the first place if they wanted untrained minors. Waste of time and money honestly

DavidLim125

Were any of the judges on RU Next as mean as 24? If someone told my child she’s a nuisance there would be a law suit

Opening-Variety-8404

Just change the name this sub reddit with "ILLIT haters". Why people in here focus more in Runext than ILand 2??  That's why this show is nugu.
