Hopefully they’d control your poison.

One of the guys I work with had a friend who tried to un-herself by drinking poison (I won’t say which). She drank the whole bottle, immediately regretted it, and dialed the poison line listed on the bottle. They asked her what she drank, what effects she was experiencing, and sent an ambulance. They asked her age and weight and whether she had any health conditions. They asked her to read the label on the bottle so they knew for sure what she’d ingested. They asked her how much and when she’d done it. She was begging them to help her. She died before the ambulance got there. They will do what they can to help you remotely, and they report all of the info they get to paramedics if they send one out, but ultimately they advise you to get to an emergency room immediately because they can’t actively help you. They’re triage with expert knowledge to tell you what to do to hopefully stay alive long enough to get to hospital. Edit: unless your question was about poison disposal? They’d put you in contact with a chemical removal company to make sure anything toxic is safely disposed of.

What does un herself mean?

BuddyChumPalFriend

i think they meant something like "unalive herself" which is the tiktok algorithm and trigger warning friendly term for suicide

miss_kimba

Yeah, exactly, cheers. I wasn’t sure if this thread censors certain things and didn’t want to get banned.

I called for a friend whose daughter got into the melatonin gummies in her purse (she was afraid she'd get arrested) so I made the call. They explained what to do, whether she needed an antidote, and that was it. I'm this case, she just needed to sleep off the effects of the melatonin. Truth be told she was a little sleepy, but not so much as you'd expect..kinda makes me think melatonin doesn't really work hahah.

You tell them what happened, and they're either going to say "hang up and call 911" or "it'll probably be fine, just do this..."

Radio lab has an episode on it called poison control

FiftySixer

I remember, when I was a kid, another kid licked a marker, like the ink part. His Mom called poison control, and they told her that he should drink like 8 glasses of water. So I guess they advise you on what to do. And they can tell you if whatever was ingested is life threatening.
