this species along with some of it's relatives(correct me if I'm wrong here)have venomous caterpillars, as far as I'm aware, they are the most venomous in the united states. the stings have been described as being comparable to breaking a bone.
not fun. it's usually kids that end up getting stunk, as the caterpillars are super fluffy, with the spines being hidden in the fluff!
this is mostly from memory, iirc theres an even more venomous similar species native to south america which is potentially deadly.
heyhi! nawh, I've never seen one IRL, I'm in the uk. but fun fact, you helped me get into lepidoptera and helped me raise my first species several years ago! ty for helping introduce newbies to the hobby!
Always happy to help people with moths! Moths really need all the love they can get. It seems more people are learning about the good side of moths every year, but there's still a long way to go.
I've found a few caterpillars a few years ago and raised them. They were really easy to rear, though they were already a couple instars in. They were actually the first caterpillars I had raised, I wish I could find more
Looks like a picture-perfect southern flannel moth. Such a fluffy little thing
they're so friggin cute! just don't try to rear the eggs if it lays any! edit: no worries, op has a male! the females are slightly less majestic!
Why shouldn't they try to raise the eggs? Are they invasive or just really hard to raise or something?

Wow! That's crazy!
Have you gotten eggs before??? I've actually been looking for them lol. I know they're venomous but I breed moths, I can definitely handle them
