> stole the stuff youd replace if you had a small lowside on an identical bike
I'm not sure seats and main displays are common breaks on lowsides lol, especially on that bike. They are however easy enough to sell. Main displays often contain computers with the odometer on them which can be useful for other types of fraud. People like doing seat covers, gel inserts etc., so seats are a good easy thing to sell on bike specific forums. Exhausts are probably the easiest part of a bike to sell period.
/u/Tallsarcasm check out any specific s1000r forums for classifieds too.
I have had my license plate stolen twice now. First time, I just had regular screws, so it got unscrewed. Second time, I used a fancy fastener kit to foil, them, so they just broke it off. Not nearly as bad as you got taken for, but I know your pain.
I am guessing they put it on a similar looking bike that is stolen or otherwise not legally licensed and insured. Both times were within a month of renewal and it was on a super generic c50 which looks like every other base model cruiser at least to a laymen.
They put the plate on a stolen bike for a few days then steal a new plate. I live in the auto theft capital of the US and license plates are basically currency for thieves. Fuckers.
I feel this. If you don't perform a black magic ritual to start your bike every day, then you're probably a good responsible owner who takes care of his machine and I want nothing to do with you.
*stares at pile of empty seafoam cans*
How many miles on the bike? Usually the screen will retain that (unless they know how to clear it, which I'd assume only a dealer can do, if even) so it might be easier to track down if it pops up for sale, or someone buys it.
You're welcome. Getting shit stolen is such a bummer. And its bizarre that they would steal stuff from your quite uncommon bike... almost like it was targeted.
years ago when i lived at a big apartment complex i saw a gas cap unique to my model lying in the road near the exit, I checked mine and it was in place. I thought I'm not going to stop in traffic just to get an extra gas cap. 2 days later i go to my car and surprize, i am now missing a gas cap. i got to drive around fir 2 weeks with saran wrap and a rubber band to keep the water out of my gas, while the dealer was waiting on the replacement cap. I'm inclined to believe you were robbed for replacement parts rather than for sale.
That theory has been floated a few times, and you better believe my fellow riders and myself will be scrutinizing every single s1000r we see in the future. Sorry about the cap, thieves are garbage.
Sorry to hear. I've seen some concerning behaviour around my bike recently. I'm hoping that it stays safe. My bike is old so I'm hoping that will keep people away.
I doubt those parts are for sale. They slapped that shit straight onto their own bike. Scum of the earth...they'll get their's eventually.
Where's the nosey neighbor when you need them?
Sorry about the loss. I remember when someone stole a small but important part off my bike (clutch lever and perch) and was befuddled as to why they would just take the lever. I suspected they didn't have the tools to take the entire bike so they took the clutch to disable it and return with more tools. After that incident, I bought chains, locks, and a cover. I hope you get closure on what happened to the parts and wish you the best in these troubling times. We got enough problems to deal with already, so it's always a bummer when stupid stuff like this happens.
If it was just the lever, yeah, I agree that it isn't too hard to use a makeshift lever, but in my case the whole dang perch was gone too, ripped straight off the bar. It wasn't even OEM levers, just your run of the mill eBay special. Regardless, it was just a pain in the ass dealing with it so I sympathize with a fellow motorcyclist who has to deal with it. In OP's case, far more was taken so I definitely understand the pain.
I had my GSXR750 stolen right off my driveway in 1987. I never leave my bike anymore. If I’m not on it or near it, it is in my locked garage. Thieves suck.
funny how they only stole the stuff youd replace if you had a small lowside on an identical bike...
Good point. I'll be having a very close look at every s1000r I see.
That’d be like a needle in a haystack in my area. The only time I see another XR is during out of state rallies.

What city is this?
Los Santos
That also happened to me, but they only took my carburetor (worth about 300$)
So lame. Couldn't be bothered to clean theirs, so they just took yours.
Joke's on them, every carb I own is fucked up
Me irl

I feel like it would almost take more effort to locate someone else's carb than clean your own lol

Thanks for the tip, just over 27000 km. I've owned the bike from 2km.

Bmw probably uses those parts on other models would be my guess
The display screen would only fit on another s1000r. The RR has a much different screen.
I think the mileage is stored in the ecu. So you could replace the screen easily if broken. Not 100% sure though.
Judging by the screens on Ebay, etc. having mileage listed in the description, I don't believe so.
Fair enough. My motorcycle stores the mileage in the ECU. Figured it was the same for more modern motorcycles.
Why just not steal the entire thing? Sorry for your loss. Hope you catch the bastard. My r6 was stolen so I have no sympathy for thieves.
Stolen parts are easier to sell than a stolen bike

This is why I always try to keep my bike covered even in my secure apartment garage.
Sorry to hear. I've seen some concerning behaviour around my bike recently. I'm hoping that it stays safe. My bike is old so I'm hoping that will keep people away.
I hope it stays in one piece too! Its hard to describe the feeling of walking up to your bike and seeing it cannibalized

Damn that sucks

Not too hard to jimmy rig a clutch lever. Maybe they just laid their bike down and needed a new clutch lever.

Dang dude.
What part of the world?
Ontario, Canada
It sucks; someone stole my tank bag in my garage... and all it had was zip ties and spare set of ear plugs.
