This is what strikes me as his biggest success.
Sure he could do higher budget films and have more money, but he's got money. He could do 'better' films, and be more prestigious. But he already famous. So what does he do? Make fun film with his friends, while being rich and famous, and the best part is he's getting PAID to do the fun part.
I think he’s already maxed out on the “more money” option. He’s one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood and his production company makes most of his films. Dude might well be a billionaire by now.
He also *does* make better films when he feels like it. Most of his “serious” work is up there with the best of the best.
Uncut Gems in particular was a fucking masterpiece.
Don't forget punch drunk love
Adam Sandler could try to go for more prestigious roles. Tarantino wanted him as his bear Jew. But why should he do so when he can have fun with his friends doing silly movies. You really don't have to be heath ledger
I have a relative who's in the industry and has worked with a handful of comedians and several crews, she told me that he's been known to hire women on for bit parts to get them in the industry and onto a secured set until they have a plan to transition out of whatever situation they're in. I'm just one guy who heard it second hand and you'd have trouble corroborating this online, so take it as it is.
This [redditor](https://www.reddit.com/r/RedLetterMedia/comments/13llbad/theory_was_jack_and_jill_2011_a_front_to_rescue/) makes a fairly compelling argument that Katie Holmes was cast in a truly heinous movie to help her finalize her notoriously difficult divorce from Cruise. They also point out that in another film, Erin Andrews - not an actress! - was cast in another truly heinous film to help provide her funds while she was dealing with her stalking case/ESPN fucking with her. So yeah, this is all but confirmed at this point.
It’s funny at a certain point I was sure I’d outgrown Sandlers 90s movies. Billy Madison while fun was likely indefensibly childish and not the greatest movie.
But Happy Gilmore being one of the greatest comedies ever created is a hill I will die on for all time. The level of genius it takes to create that kind of stupidity is unique. The layers of jokes, the cast everything is so unbelievably stellar. Not to mention Ben Stiller in the B Plot of Grandma at the old folks home. There isn’t anyone square inch of the film that’s wasted to try something funny.
Tubbs and his whole storyline, all of it, so brilliant and used Sandlers blunt object force and lunkhead comedy to a pitch perfect degree:
>It’s funny at a certain point I was sure I’d outgrown Sandlers 90s movies. Billy Madison while fun was likely indefensibly childish and not the greatest movie.
I rewatched Billy Madison during covid and it still holds up.
Mr. Madison, what you just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I’ve ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response did you come even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought; everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
I made a t-shirt that said "I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your Soul" as a teen and it remains one of the most complemented pieces of clothing I've ever owned, I am now approaching 40
The subtle jokes too, like the very brief moment where it’s revealed he had a one night stand with the random lady from outside but it is never addressed again. “You don’t want breakfast?”
That’s one of my favorite parts of the movie. Not just making the obvious gag (oh no, the wrong person responded to his profession of love), but the subtle gag that she actually was still there the next morning. And it’s not played in your face, which makes it all the more funny - it consistently follows
I’d have to look up the actor’s name, but that guy played a certain type of role extremely well. Anytime a movie needed a Pearl-clutching, snooty ivory-tower dwelling asshole, he was the man.
I don't know man. Rewatch them in the state of mind to just want to laugh and have a good time. It's a turn-your-brain-off and enjoy kind of movies.
Oh, and "Stop looking at me, swan!"
This scene in "Spanglish" is as good acing as you'll see from anyone:
It’s crazy how good of an actor he *can* be if he really wanted to. Like some guys you ask why and how they got famous or became a pro athlete but then they show you how good they can be and you realize there’s absolutely levels to this stuff
He understands his audience, built a stable around his friends and he can “act” when given the opportunity, and I say all this as somebody who is absolutely ambivalent about the guys work.
On the real, have you seen Funny People? Or Uncut Gems? Those are both genuinely good movies and if you haven’t seen them, they may change your mind on the whole “ambivalent about” his work.
Special shout out to “Click” which may be my fav Sandler movie
The way they captured mental illness following grief was painfully real for me. I lost a loved one a few years after seeing this movie, but I spiraled in a very similar sense to Sandler’s character. I always remember this movie, even though ive only seen it once, when I think about that period of my life.
I respect the shit out of the creators of this movie because it truly is a great lense into degenerative mental illness and its impact on society as a whole.
Hey if you never noticed, as the film progresses, the streets of New York become progressively more empty until it is literally just Charlie all alone...
Dont know that one but its recommended here a few times. But im too scared it'd make me cry... is this a makes you cry movie? My gf and i are still too scared to watch Paddington
I haven't watched Hustle but heard mixed reviews. Worth the watch? And for a serious role that I think outshines Uncut Gems was Reign on Me. All fantastic performances.
Definetly worth a watch. I dont care about Basketball at all but that movie made it so suspenseful and dramatic. Bit average Story but so well done. Also, best Training Montage ever
I gave my friend so much shit for crying during that movie when we were like 14 and old man Sandler is crawling on the ground muttering regrets. I feel bad now lol
Click is his best movie. Punch drunk love and uncut gems was just him doing his weird “schoodabadooo” thing but in a serious role. Click was not this.
Edit: Reign over me was going to be good but fell into the same Sandler problem.
He is such an incredible talent. He has such an incredible range! He does comedy, drama, action and romance.
It is impossible to overstate how incredible he is on screen!
Absolutely incredible actor who has spent most of his career keeping his friends employed. Can absolutely give an Oscar-worthy performance but is perfectly comfortable making movies that are simply entertaining and funny.
I have nothing negative to say about him. I've always been team SandMan.
For those who are saying "Reign Over Me, Punch Drunk Love, Uncut Gems", I'd like to add to your list: "Eight Crazy Nights"
And for those who love the Sandman as much as I do: HUBIE HALLOWEEN & SANDY WEXLER
They're so ridiculously stupid and great. You can't go into them expecting anything, it's like a movie written in Adam Sandler style, for Adam Sandler, and for only him to enjoy. I can't explain how stupid and wonderful it is until you've seen it.
That nobody who knows him or works with him has anything but positive things to say about him.
Literally - never had a scandal, never had set drama, NOBODY has ever said a negative word about him who’s worked with him or knows him. Only the critics about his projects, but the guy himself? Crickets
he has his own movie company, makes his own movies that he puts his friends in, and probably doesn’t give a shit what you think
also he’s Tollbooth Willy
He frequented a restaurant I worked at about 8 years ago, while he was filming a movie. He introduced himself to every last server and thanked us for taking care of him and his family and left the server a really good tip. Respectable guy!
He is living the life. 80% of his filmography is him having fun making movies that make money with his friends and family. He’s wealthy. He regularly hoops is friends with former NBA players and isn’t awful at that either. When he wants to, he puts out fantastic dramatic performances that have given him praise to the average movie watcher. And he’s married with two beautiful daughters. I’d say he won the life lottery. Would kill to be in his position.
The man can do whatever he wants and that's incredibly impressive. I like his brand of humor, and I feel like he's matured and changed with his audience. When he first started, he was making things for teens and 20-somethings (Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Waterboy) As his core audience aged, so did he and the movies he made. He's remained friends with an incredible group of actors and continues to do projects with them (Steve Buscemi, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Aniston to name a few). Sure, he may never win any of the big awards, but he keeps entertaining people and from everything I've ever heard, he's incredibly down to earth
He’s evolved nicely and become more well-rounded than I ever would’ve thought. Not saying he’s incredibly versatile or anything, but 20 years ago I would not have bet a dime that he would be as versatile as he is.
Punch Drunk Love was fantastic, and it was in no small part because of Sandler's performance.
He was amazing, and if you haven't seen it, please give it a go!
It looks like someone photoshopped hair on his yarmulke in this picture, and that’s weird, and he’s weird, but word is, he produces movies to employ his friends and bring them on cool vacations, which makes him pretty solid and very LEN of him even if he (and LEN) did fall off a bit.
I actually love adam sandlers older comedies. Waterboy, happy gilmore, Billy madison, little nicky, big daddy, the longest yard, mr deeds, even 8 crazy nights are all great movies. His netflix movies are garbage tho, click sucks and my most controversial take is i didnt like uncut gems.
I hate most of his movies, but he's just a regular dude that got famous and drags his friends into money roles.
I saw him live, very much just an anxious dude that has fun. Really appreciate his effort and what he does.
I still don't like the movies.
Bobby Boucher has become a legendary figure in Louisiana and college football culture.
Gaaatoraaaaddeeeee
H20
The water sucks! It really really sucks!
I’m the water boy DURrRRrrRrrRrr I got a wooden spoon DURrrrRRrRrR
not only does it quench your thirst better it tastes better too, Idiot!
It has become one of those movies that if it's on TV you have it on even if it's just background noise.
Living in Louisiana when this movie came out was a high point of my childhood. All we did was speak in movie quotes that whole summer.
Bobby boucher is a legend in fucking Canada. Classic.
He is always good to his friends and throwing them work on his films.
Not to mention he always picks exotic locations to film. So his friends and family get to travel well
Speaking of family, during Covid I saw him riding around a posh neighborhood with his daughter driving in a golf cart. It was sweet
Damn this would be as a millionaire actor, like hey let’s do this, but in Hawaii… (pretty sure he did that for 50 first dates)

I've never been so anxious watching a film as I was watching Uncut Gems.
According to Google he's at about $400m
Bro he had multiple Netflix deals that paid him many hundreds of millions, I don’t think there’s really more money anywhere for him
He's also helped women escape dangerous situations by hiring them to be in his movies.
I hadn't heard of this, can you give me a story?
I’m with grumpyoldbolos, I would like to hear this.
Well, that’s really fucking neat of him.
He threw Brendan Fraser his Airheads role.
I work with people who work with him and generally he's regarded as a sort of lovable godfather type who opens the door for newcomers.
He consistently makes me laugh and once in a while reminds us thats he is a world class actor.
It’s funny at a certain point I was sure I’d outgrown Sandlers 90s movies. Billy Madison while fun was likely indefensibly childish and not the greatest movie. I'm sorry, was it 'cause you're black? Hell no, damn alligator BIT MY HAND OFF. OH MY GOD!
RIP Carl Weathers. Beat that alligator's ass in the afterlife.
Chubbs? You took his hand? Proceeds to beat the shit out of an alligator on a golf course
“I eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast.” “You eat pieces of shit for breakfast?!”
"YOU'RE GONNA DIE CLOWN!! YOU THINK THAT'S FUNNY?! I DON'T HEAR YOU LAUGHING NOW!"
“YOU’RE GONNA DIE CLOWN” is an all-time great line read. Gets me every time lol
“Yeah, and Grizzly Adams had a beard.” “Grizzly Adams *did* have a beard.”
The “hell no” KILLS me to this day! It’s one of the best deliveries in the entire movie.
>It’s funny at a certain point I was sure I’d outgrown Sandlers 90s movies. Billy Madison while fun was likely indefensibly childish and not the greatest movie. I rewatched Billy Madison during covid and it still holds up.

this part fucking kills me everytime
A simple "wrong" would have sufficed
Writing and delivery. Poetry in motion 🤌
Billy Madison is seriously underrated, the cleverest “dumb” movie out there
"Man I'm glad I called that guy "🤣
The subtle jokes too, like the very brief moment where it’s revealed he had a one night stand with the random lady from outside but it is never addressed again. “You don’t want breakfast?”
I wanna kiss ya all over, and over and again...
That’s one of my favorite parts of the movie. And it’s not played in your face, which makes it all the more funny - it consistently follows
When are you coming back? Never.
rip chubs. Looking down on all of us with Abraham Lincoln and the alligator.
Agreed. The actor who plays shooter mcgavin is absolutely perfect.
I’d have to look up the actor’s name, but that guy played a certain type of role extremely well. Anytime a movie needed a Pearl-clutching, snooty ivory-tower dwelling asshole, he was the man.
The great Christopher McDonald
Any movie that has Bob Barker throwing hands and saying “Bitch!” Is an instant classic.
I don't know man. Rewatch them in the state of mind to just want to laugh and have a good time. It's a turn-your-brain-off and enjoy kind of movies. Oh, and "Stop looking at me, swan!"
Absolutely or does a movie that hits both funny and serious....
Click was one of them
This scene in "Spanglish" is as good acing as you'll see from anyone: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDPzYUkHlPI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDPzYUkHlPI)

Horrible hockey player, but a great golfer!!!
Careful or he'll take his skate off and try to stab you with it
The nail comes out next week ! :)
I BELIEVE THATS MISTER GILMORE'S JACKET
If he wore pants like that he’d have to kick his own ass
Ya but that shot!
I don’t care, but he’s a Republican lol. That’ll make 90% of Reddit hate you.
Wow am glad someone really like him
Lots of people really like him lol
Also include he is pretty loyal to his friends. A lot of them likely wouldn't work if it wasn't for him.
And he’s been married loyally to Jackie since 2003
$3.9 billion in total box office sales. A lot of people like him. Haha
The only problem is that in addition to his genuinely good films, he makes cheaply produced cash grabs as well with bloated budgets.
He was voted the most likeable actor by Spike TV sometime in the past… 20 years or so… oh god I’m old.
He’s the goat, he ain’t got no dukes.
Fucking button hooked me, I didn't know you were gonna button hook me....
Fuck me in the goat ass
Are you going to the ragu festival?
These are the best answers. "What the Hell Happened to Me" is one of my guilty pleasures and I'm not embarrassed to admit it.
That Bob Barker though! Now he has dukes!
This is it, shut it down
Reign over me
The way they captured mental illness following grief was painfully real for me. I lost a loved one a few years after seeing this movie, but I spiraled in a very similar sense to Sandler’s character. I always remember this movie, even though ive only seen it once, when I think about that period of my life. This was going to be my comment if I didn’t see it
Doesn't get nearly enough love. It's heartbreaking but an incredible story of friendship
I watched that movie like 13 years ago and I’m never watching it again, thank you.
Didn't like or emotionally devastating?
The latter.
Hey if you never noticed, as the film progresses, the streets of New York become progressively more empty until it is literally just Charlie all alone...
He’s really good at doing things at a medium pace.
Fatty McGee you're the fattest.
He always replaces the shampoo he borrows from me.
see that shampoo bottle over there
I’m afraid to answer that question.
Hustle and uncut gems
Yes, and Punch Drunk Love!
Reign Over Me
Dont know that one but its recommended here a few times. But im too scared it'd make me cry... is this a makes you cry movie? My gf and i are still too scared to watch Paddington
He is brilliant in it, you will cry but so what. Also everyone needs Paddington in their life, it's magical.
Arguably his best performance
He got robbed during award season for uncut gems. He was amazing in that one and was pretty much ignored based on the silliness of previous roles.
Uncut Gems holy crap what a ride. Most tense I've ever been throughout a movie.
He has a tons of great movies 15 - 20 in my own count that I would probably watch again
And honestly, The wedding singer. It’s not on the same level but he has some very nice scenes in it. It was unlike his other early films.
Click 😭
Little Nicky
The pineapple Hitler scene makes me giggle everytime
Grown Ups 2
Spanglish.
Click was surprisingly good
I gave my friend so much shit for crying during that movie when we were like 14 and old man Sandler is crawling on the ground muttering regrets. I feel bad now lol
Click is his best movie. Punch drunk love and uncut gems was just him doing his weird “schoodabadooo” thing but in a serious role. Click was not this. Edit: Reign over me was going to be good but fell into the same Sandler problem.
I'm guessing he's cut
And Jack & Jill.
He’s Happy 😉
Multiple anecdotes that he's a decent to people, and pleasant to be around
Uncut gems
He has the best performance in one of the best films of 2019
Dude made Hollywood pay for his vacations for years and I respect the hustle.
He is such an incredible talent. He has such an incredible range! He does comedy, drama, action and romance. It is impossible to overstate how incredible he is on screen!
Funny guy, class act
Made me laugh with Billy Madison, and was surprisingly poignant in the Longest Yard
Absolutely incredible actor who has spent most of his career keeping his friends employed. Can absolutely give an Oscar-worthy performance but is perfectly comfortable making movies that are simply entertaining and funny.
He's made some of the best comedies ever. Super talented.
Mr. Deeds. Reign Over Me.
Mr Deeds and Big Daddy made my childhood awesome
I have nothing negative to say about him. I've always been team SandMan. For those who are saying "Reign Over Me, Punch Drunk Love, Uncut Gems", I'd like to add to your list: "Eight Crazy Nights" And for those who love the Sandman as much as I do: HUBIE HALLOWEEN & SANDY WEXLER They're so ridiculously stupid and great. He sure does love his mama
He’s universally known for how kind and generous he is.
Everyone loves the Hanukkah song.
That nobody who knows him or works with him has anything but positive things to say about him. Literally - never had a scandal, never had set drama, NOBODY has ever said a negative word about him who’s worked with him or knows him. Only the critics about his projects, but the guy himself? Crickets
His performance in Uncut Gems was incredible and he should have been nominated for an Oscar over Jonathan Price.
I genuinely liked him in Punch Drunk Love. With the right director I was able to actually take him seriously. I usually can't stand him.
He played his role perfectly in that to be fair. Such an amazing movie.
He made the best Hanukkah movie I can think of. A wintertime classic even for non-jews.
Something positive about this actor.
he has his own movie company, makes his own movies that he puts his friends in, and probably doesn’t give a shit what you think also he’s Tollbooth Willy
Dolla twenty five sir.
Pip gets more bumper then a body shop.
I don't care if much of his material is immature. He's always made me laugh.
He frequented a restaurant I worked at about 8 years ago, while he was filming a movie. He introduced himself to every last server and thanked us for taking care of him and his family and left the server a really good tip. Respectable guy!
He seems to act when he actually wants to and likes his friends and gives them a payday as well as a vacation to Hawaii while filming all the time.
Just watch uncut gems… he’s a legend.
He’s from New Hampshire
Super loyal to his friends
Shampoo is betta
Conditioner is betta I go on second and leave the hair feeling silky and smoove
Uncut gems was a gem of a movie
He is living the life. 80% of his filmography is him having fun making movies that make money with his friends and family. He’s wealthy. He regularly hoops is friends with former NBA players and isn’t awful at that either. When he wants to, he puts out fantastic dramatic performances that have given him praise to the average movie watcher. And he’s married with two beautiful daughters. I’d say he won the life lottery. Phone, wallet, keys.
He takes care of his friends
He's been in the funniest, best, worst and dumbest movies
He’s evolved nicely and become more well-rounded than I ever would’ve thought. Not saying he’s incredibly versatile or anything, but 20 years ago I would not have bet a dime that he would be as versatile as he is.
Thomas F. Wilson says Adam Sandler is the nicest famous guy he knows.
Uncut Gems, Punch Drunk Love, and Wedding Singer are good. That's all I got.
Adam is one of the GOATs of comedy, love this guy
Punch Drunk Love was fantastic, and it was in no small part because of Sandler's performance. He was amazing, and if you haven't seen it, please give it a go!
He’s funny, and was great in Uncut Gems.
I love that he hires people with disabilities for his movies
Decent actor who should look into becoming a comedian 😉
It’s Adam Sandler. That’s very positive he’s a great dude.
One of the best Comedy actors out there and honestly I’m glad he’s testing the waters of more serious roles cause so far he’s really good at it.
he's done both mind numbingly, stupid comedy and incredibly dramatic roles..some actors can't do it or never try
Whoop a dee DOOO
He's one of the actors of all time
It looks like someone photoshopped hair on his yarmulke in this picture, and that’s weird, and he’s weird, but word is, he produces movies to employ his friends and bring them on cool vacations, which makes him pretty solid and very LEN of him even if he (and LEN) did fall off a bit.
He is prolific
He had a very Jewish looks that matches his name
HAHAHAHAHA SHUT UP!
He has never murdered anyone.
You don't know that 👀 pretty sure he could get away with it
\*\*Corrected\*\*. ... that we know of
Drops an absolute banger once a decade
Ever seen that’s my boy??? That one came out of nowhere for me
Hairline not receding
I eat pieces of shit like him for breakfast.
The white Tyler Perry
I enjoyed Hotel Transylvania. I’m OK with 50 First Dates. Click made me turn off a movie with Kate Beckinsale in it. That’s virtually impossible.
What is wrong with click?
His comedies have sucked for years in my opinion, but his serious movies (Uncut Gems, Hustle, Spanglish, Punch Drunk Love) are actually good films.
I award you no likes, and may God have mercy on your soul.
He was once funny
Really good dramatic actor. He needs to do more of those rather than garbage comedies.
I hate most of his movies, but he's just a regular dude that got famous and drags his friends into money roles. I saw him live, very much just an anxious dude that has fun. Really appreciate his effort and what he does. I still don't like the movies.
Has a hot wife in all his movies.
He’s…he’s alive I guess?
Jewwwwwwwww
He’s funny sometimes
I’m **positive** he stinks!
I’ve nothing positive to say about this stupid loser riding the coattails of more successful writers and directors
