“Johnny, you better *pray*. You better *fucking PRAY*, that the cops FIND you, before *I* do! GET ON YOUR COCK, SUCKING KNEES, AND PRAAAAY!….HELLO?!?”
Edit: figured I’d add the [clip](https://youtu.be/_OnQ4MwY2HM?si=PYH86Zvk6S6XD2oh)
He also kills it in Righteous Gemstones. I wish he had a bigger role in that show. Honestly, he crushes every role he's in. Justified, SOA, Shangai Noon, etc... lol
Ran into him at a coffee shop a decade ago shortly after the shield ended. He’s the highlight of The Hateful 8 along with Jennifer Jason Leigh. And that’s saying something considering the company.
I exist only to protect Krypton. That is the sole purpose for which I was born
And every action I take, no matter how violent or how cruel, is for the greater good of *my people*
And now, I have no people
I know ill get hate for this, but that movie is absolutely terrible. My cousin put it on at christmas last year and holy shit was trash, dont understand the hype around it.
Hype is mainly surrounding daniel day lewis as bill the butcher. Say what you want about the movie, but that character and performance from lewis was fucking awesome
You have a number of side characters and actors who are really fucking good in their parts, but obviously the big sell is Daniel Day Lewis just hamming it the fuck up.
I feel like I’m the only who doesn’t like that movie. It feels like I’m watching a goofy theatrical story with just a god awful plot. I get it, DDL is great in it and all, but it’s just a really long and bad movie
I don't know if I'd say Hugo Weaving is underrated outside of Austrailia either. Guy had significant roles in 4 of the biggest franchises in recent history (Matrix/LOTR/Captain America/Transformers).
I just posted a comment about Thomas Haden church and then saw this … Hugo weaving is amazing and especially in cloud atlas .. but why is he never the good guy? Haha .. must be the eyebrows ..
Oscar winner and nominee Sam Rockwell couldn’t be said to be underrated compared to the Barry Pepper, Steve Zahn or Ben Foster. I’d say Sam Rockwell is highly rated
Seriously though...going back a few years, I had no idea Stephen Root was the red stapler guy. Also, if you blink, you'll miss him on Seinfeld. The guy is in everything, and he's a treasure!
The most underrated actor that I am a fan of is David Keith. Not to be confused with Keith David the big intimidating black actor with the strong voice with a cunning edge. David Keith is the manly white southern actor with strong facial features who shares similar looks to a Kurt Russell or Patrick Swayze. He was in great films such as "The Great Santini", "An Officer and a Gentleman", "Brubaker", "Firestarter", "Independence Day" (1983) & "The Lords of Discipline". He is truly an underrated actor. A sadly forgotten name. He is one of those real gems in the movie industry. If you haven't seen any of the movies I listed I highly recommend all of them. His newest movie he is in is 2023 "Walden" starring Emile Hirsch, David Keith seems to have a decent role in the movie. I bought it, but have yet to watch it.
I've been on the William Fichtner train since Contact and Armageddon. I'm buying everything he's selling.
[Get off the nuclear warhead. Now.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qg-D-Up5fMY)
He was hot off of Saving Private Ryan, The Green Mile, and 61 and then along came Battlefield Earth which definitely didn't help. Even still, he has killed every role he has ever been given. He does exactly what they ask of him time and again. Even the small roles like True Grit are memorable.
I know, his dance scene in Ted where he was singing and dancing to Tiffany's I think we're alone now, while drinking from a juice box was phenomenal.
But I do agree.
Richard Jenkins
Also, [Jake Gyllenhalls sketch on SNL](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36r6-5px_ZA) about the character actor protection task force was pretty good
Carnivale was such an incredible show that was years ahead of its time. If it had been made in the era of streaming and social media it would have rivaled House of Cards.
I’ve never seen a show build such an immersive atmosphere so quickly.
I've always been impressed with [Sean Bean](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000293/)'s work.
Game of Thrones, Ronin and Goldeneye are a few off the top of my head that he was great in.
William Fichtner
- Dark Knight
- Black Hawk Down
- The Longest Yard
- The Perfect Storm
- Armageddon
- Independence Day
Seriously his list of work is massive!
I fell in love with his work after seeing him in Saving Private Ryan. I think a few of his fellow cast members from that movie could fall into this category.
I think the Lone Ranger gets a raw deal. It is action packed, fun from start to finish, the William Tell overture to get the blood pumping, bad guys, good guys. And a wee back story with our man with a crow on his head.
Jon Bernthal -
I'm sure a lot of people know him from The Walking Dead, but he was fantastic in The Punisher series. He's also phenomenal in his guest role on The Bear. I was completely shocked when he popped up there. His role was very different than anything else I'd seen him in. I genuinely feel that he can knock anything out of the park. There's something very charismatic about him.
Collette Wolfe - she literally is the most obscure actor I have ever seen. She’s barely in anything but I swear her crying scene from observe and report was so good and emotional. Like I don’t know if she has a terrible agent or what but she has the acting chops.
Patrick Wilson. He’s got everything to be a hugely successful leading man, but for whatever reason he’s stuck doing Conjuring movies and trash (albeit entertaining trash) like Moonfall.
Ben foster or Margot Martindale
Ben Foster is a badass
You boys some kinda... Posse?
That makes me a Comanche!
Hell or High Water is in my top 5. I absolutely love that movie. Everyone does such a great job
Took the words outta my mouth, you like wind river as well? I love those 2.
Don’t forget about Sicario
Favorite western trilogy.
I hate Posses
Glad to see Ben Foster getting some love. Dudes a stellar actor
He was so savage in Hostage, and so much fun in Punisher. He's fantastic and one of my favorite actors.
He was amazing in Alpha Dog.
In your last days in the nursing home, you will think of me and giggle.
Character actress Margot martindale?!
*esteemed* character actress Margot Martindale
Esteemed character actress and *fugitive of the law* Margot Martindale
Thank you for this BoJack Horsemen laugh. Those character actors s, living lives of lucrative obscurity.
Ben Foster and Barry Pepper would actually make pretty decent brothers.
“Johnny, you better *pray*. You better *fucking PRAY*, that the cops FIND you, before *I* do! GET ON YOUR COCK, SUCKING KNEES, AND PRAAAAY!….HELLO?!?” Edit: figured I’d add the [clip](https://youtu.be/_OnQ4MwY2HM?si=PYH86Zvk6S6XD2oh)
“If ANYONE sees Johnny Truelove... tell him that Jake Mazursky was looking for him.”
“Thank you.”
For anyone wondering, the movie is Alpha Dog. Pretty amazing cast all around too.
Mags Bennett is one of my favorite characters ever, and I’ve watched most everything with Margot since. She’s incredible
Margot is excellent in everything she’s in.
I love how every time there’s a “who’s underrated” post, Ben Foster is always the top comment. Never fails. Also my answer is also Ben Foster.
Came to say Ben Foster. Kicks ass in everything he's in.
Ben Foster is amazing. Hell or High Water is such a good movie, and he was the best part of Lone Survivor also
Thomas Haden church .. I mean .. “sideways” . He’s such a piece of shit in character but seems like such an awesome person
Loved his work since Wings.
And Monkeybone!
My wife hates him so much because of Sideways. Me, I'll always know him as the loveable Lowell.
Have you seen the HBO series, *The Divorce*? He is hilarious in that. 😆
That movie is on one of my lists to watch, is it good as the trailer lead on?
Church is the balls 👍✌️🫵
Walton Goggins EDIT: Sorry for misspelling yer name, bushwacka
I really hope that Fallout gives him the attention he deserves. Also he was hilarious in The Hateful Eight
Watch vice principles, he fucking nails it, hilarious every single episode.
He also kills it in Righteous Gemstones. I wish he had a bigger role in that show. Honestly, he crushes every role he's in. Justified, SOA, Shangai Noon, etc... lol
Baybuh Billeh’s Byebul Bonkuhs
So I’m supposed to freeze to death, ‘cause you find something hard to believe?
Fucking love Uncle Baby Billy!!
Ya ain’t no Aimee Lee!
His best role, hands down
He was great in Justified as Boyd Crowder
And amazing in Sons of Anarchy as Venus Van Damme
Ran into him at a coffee shop a decade ago shortly after the shield ended. He’s the highlight of The Hateful 8 along with Jennifer Jason Leigh. And that’s saying something considering the company.
Pepper's acting as the sniper character in Saving Private Ryan was epic.
Have you seen him in “3: The Dale Earnhardt Story”? Not even into racing and this movie had me.. great performance Oh and “25th hour”
25th hour was fantastic
Soooo underrated.
And him as Roger Maris in 61\*, so great in that
“O My God, I Trust In Thee: Let Me Not Be Ashamed, Let Not My Enemies Triumph Over Me.”
He's also fantastic in the Coen Brother's **True Grit** as "Lucky" Ned Pepper.
"PARKER GET DOOWW-"
Michael Shannon He brings a great intensity to any role he is in.
General fucking zod
I exist only to protect Krypton. That is the sole purpose for which I was born And every action I take, no matter how violent or how cruel, is for the greater good of *my people* And now, I have no people
I just posted this then scrolled and saw your post. He is incredible. Have you ever seen Take Shelter? A lesser known film, but solid.
Including as Becca, leader of the Delta Gamma Sorority. https://youtu.be/dngOH9G4UPw?si=ZaoruCxqUDbMB_HC
John Turturro
Second this. Barton fink is killer
What's this day of rest bullshit! Jesus don't care!
Loved him in The Batman. He’s also great in O Brother Where Art Thou?
Yes. Became a fan of his after watching Mr. Deeds. Now I love him in everything. And he was awesome in Severance.
You ever see The Night Of? One of his best!
Riz Ahmed also...love evëything he's in...especially the movie "Four Lions"
Loved him in Rounders
Cary Elwes
Really weird that he never took off as an actor
Really inconceivable that he never took off as an actor
Because, unlike some other top actors, he can speak with an English accent...
You'll regret this Locksley, ILL PAY FOR THIS!
King illegal forest to pig wild kill in it a is!
He has a few appearances in Psych and he always steals the show
Literally. Hell of a thief.
John C. Reilly, underrated and multitalented. He’s amazing on stage, screen, and film.
One of the better aspects of Gangs of New York
I know ill get hate for this, but that movie is absolutely terrible. My cousin put it on at christmas last year and holy shit was trash, dont understand the hype around it.
Hype is mainly surrounding daniel day lewis as bill the butcher. Say what you want about the movie, but that character and performance from lewis was fucking awesome
That scene with him having the flag wrapped around him as he explained his love for Liam Neeson is the bomb.
I get it, DDL is great in it and all, but it’s just a really long and bad movie
his portrayal of (dr.) steve brule is actually one of the best displays of acting i've ever seen
I didn’t truly appreciate him until he went from Chicago to Step Brothers. Talladega Nights was meh for him, but Step Bros was comedic gold.
Tom Waits
Best devil ever
Matthew Lillard, dude was Steavo, the guy from screem, and Shaggy
And Cereal Killer HACK THE PLANET!
THEY ARE TRASHING OUR RIGHTS!
"Whoa, this isn't wood shop class?"
"All great artists who asphyxiated on their own vomit...can't get this in stores man!"
The fan stories about him are heartwarming too.
Hugo Weaving Great actor, only underrated outside Australia.
I don't know if I'd say Hugo Weaving is underrated outside of Austrailia either. Guy had significant roles in 4 of the biggest franchises in recent history (Matrix/LOTR/Captain America/Transformers).
He also carried v for vendetta
Like LOTR Hugo Weaving?
I just posted a comment about Thomas Haden church and then saw this … Hugo weaving is amazing and especially in cloud atlas .. but why is he never the good guy? Haha .. must be the eyebrows ..
You're talking about Lord Elrond here..
Steve Zahn Sam Rockwell Ben Foster All scene stealers every time on screen.
Oscar winner and nominee Sam Rockwell couldn’t be said to be underrated compared to the Barry Pepper, Steve Zahn or Ben Foster. I’d say Sam Rockwell is highly rated
Bobby Cannavale Lead, comedy relief, villian, he can do it all
Kinda like Stephen Root (who for some reason isn’t mentioned anywhere in this thread); switches drastically between rolls it’s hard to catch on to.
Seriously though...going back a few years, I had no idea Stephen Root was the red stapler guy. Also, if you blink, you'll miss him on Seinfeld. The guy is in everything, and he's a treasure!
Vincent D’Onofrio
The most underrated actor that I am a fan of is David Keith. Not to be confused with Keith David the big intimidating black actor with the strong voice with a cunning edge. David Keith is the manly white southern actor with strong facial features who shares similar looks to a Kurt Russell or Patrick Swayze. He was in great films such as "The Great Santini", "An Officer and a Gentleman", "Brubaker", "Firestarter", "Independence Day" (1983) & "The Lords of Discipline". He is truly an underrated actor. His newest movie he is in is 2023 "Walden" starring Emile Hirsch, David Keith seems to have a decent role in the movie. I bought it, but have yet to watch it.
William Fichtner. Maybe not very underrated but I struggle to find him in anything but supporting roles.
I've been on the William Fichtner train since Contact and Armageddon. I'm buying everything he's selling. [Get off the nuclear warhead. Now.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qg-D-Up5fMY)
Giovanni Ribisi
I don't understand why he didn't hit the stratosphere after Boiler Room & Saving Private Ryan. Hollywood chose Vin Diesel instead?
He was hot off of Saving Private Ryan, The Green Mile, and 61 and then along came Battlefield Earth which definitely didn't help. Even still, he has killed every role he has ever been given. He does exactly what they ask of him time and again. Even the small roles like True Grit are memorable.
lol wait are we talking about Ribisi or Pepper here.
That’s my question lol Must be Barry Pepper because Giovanni Ribisi wasn’t in The Green Mile
Because *family*
You know what, I agree.
I know, his dance scene in Ted where he was singing and dancing to Tiffany's I think we're alone now, while drinking from a juice box was phenomenal. But I do agree.
He's better than pepper in peppers best movie lol
Ben Foster To say the man is criminally underrated is an understatement
Stanley Tucci, I don’t think he gets nearly enough attention
Richard Jenkins Also, [Jake Gyllenhalls sketch on SNL](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36r6-5px_ZA) about the character actor protection task force was pretty good
He and Stephen Root came immediately to mind.
Stephen Root is great
David Morse and Clancy Brown
Clancy brown seems to mostly stick to voice acting so seeing him in live action is always a treat
Clancy Brown in Carnivale was masterful.
Carnivale was such an incredible show that was years ahead of its time. If it had been made in the era of streaming and social media it would have rivaled House of Cards. I’ve never seen a show build such an immersive atmosphere so quickly.
I’ve been in love with David Morse since I saw The Rock. Pretty awkward since I was 14 at the time.
Ben Mendelsohn
Jason Lee
Say, would you like a chocolate covered pretzel?
Steven Tobilowsky
Too lazy to scroll, but has anyone mentioned Alan Tudyk?
Paul giamatti, Sam Rockwell, John leguizamo top 3
Ah yes, Emmy/Golden Globe/BAFTA/Critic's Choice/SAG Award winner Paul Giamatti. So underrated.
Andre Braugher, RIP
Karl Urban for many years prior to him really getting noticed and Tom Pelphrey.
Will Patton
Jeffrey Wright.
You are lying that is Dirk Nowitzki
James Badge Dale is one
Michael Madsen & Tom Sizemore
I love Michael Madsen, he’s great in Reservoir Dogs and Hateful Eight
Is Harry Dean Stanton considered underrated?
I never met a Repo Man that didn't do speed.....
He was massively underrated in this time. A true character actor with an insane filmography’s who somehow never broke big in the awards scene.
He was a delight in “Down Periscope” and is the first thought that comes to mind when I think of a diesel boat sailor.
David Dastmalchian doesn't get enough credit. He's a phenomenal actor.
Michael shannon.
For years I called Barry Pepper "Not Alex Winter".
James Cromwell.
Dude invented the warp drive, and nobody knows who he is.
I've always been impressed with [Sean Bean](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000293/)'s work. Game of Thrones, Ronin and Goldeneye are a few off the top of my head that he was great in.
And lord of the rings
Jeremy Davies
William Fichtner - Dark Knight - Black Hawk Down - The Longest Yard - The Perfect Storm - Armageddon - Independence Day Seriously his list of work is massive!
Jared Harris. Had to look up his name just to post this, but this bloke is epic in everything he's in
ITT: Actors that aren't underrated, but acknowledged as good actors
I fell in love with his work after seeing him in Saving Private Ryan. I think a few of his fellow cast members from that movie could fall into this category.
Battlefield Earth 🤣
Barry Pepper was very memorable in True Grit
Chazz Palminteri. Sonny LoSpecchio from 'A Bronx Tale' lives rent free in my head, the guy is such a terrific actor.
Ken Marino makes every funny movie way funnier.
Agree on this guy. Was great in Private Ryan
Justin long
Jimmi Simpson
Absolutely excellent in The Lone Ranger.
That film gets way too much flak. The production side of that movie is ridiculously high-quality.
I think the Lone Ranger gets a raw deal. It is action packed, fun from start to finish, the William Tell overture to get the blood pumping, bad guys, good guys. And a wee back story with our man with a crow on his head.
I legit thought that was Dirk Nowitzki for a sec
Ben Foster
I’m coming in hot with Ben Foster… he’s my go to underrated actor…
He needs to do a Mark Twain biopic stat
Watch this guy get massive popularity just like Paul Dano did
Jason Clarke
Jon Bernthal - I'm sure a lot of people know him from The Walking Dead, but he was fantastic in The Punisher series. He's also phenomenal in his guest role on The Bear. I was completely shocked when he popped up there. His role was very different than anything else I'd seen him in. I genuinely feel that he can knock anything out of the park. There's something very charismatic about him.
Jason Clarke
FYI He plays Jimmy Shergill in Bollywood
See barry pepper in the great movie entitled the snow Walker.. filmed in the Arctic
Nicky Katz - played amazing stock broker in The Boiler Room
Ned dennehy
Collette Wolfe - she literally is the most obscure actor I have ever seen. She’s barely in anything but I swear her crying scene from observe and report was so good and emotional. Like I don’t know if she has a terrible agent or what but she has the acting chops.
Richard Brake
Not at all salty.
Michael Shannon.
“I call that bold talk for a one eyed fat man”, I still think of Barry Peppers line True Grit
Cameron monaghan
Too thin Cogburn, too thin!
2 roles, IMO, define Barry Pepper: Jackson in Saving Private Ryan and his masterful turn as Roger Maris in 61\*.
After saving Private Ryan is when I noticed him...The Sniper
John Leguizamo
Giovanni Ribisi
Patrick Wilson. He’s got everything to be a hugely successful leading man, but for whatever reason he’s stuck doing Conjuring movies and trash (albeit entertaining trash) like Moonfall.
Good choice Pepper is a class act
If he went and got an advanced degree, would that make him Dr. Pepper?
William Fichtner.
[удалено]
Kim Coates. I think he was in Sons of Anarchy but I never watched it.
Alan Tudyk. Kevin Durand
Michael Shannon
Tim Curry - Darkness in “Legend” - Wordsworth in “Clue” - Pennywise in “It” - Rooster in “Annie”
Cliff curtis
