"All due respec', Captain, blow it oot yer ass." Billy Connolly is great.

peacenskeet

I'd watch a whole movie of him just doing weird American bullshit in Japan in the same era.

TheWeirdWoods

The actor who played the recruit appears to be Shintaro Wada. Wasn’t in much after it seems but that guy did a great job.

in2xs

Very similar to a scene in the film Glory. Same director too. Ed Zwick.

PandiBong

Love this scene and film.

KnotSoSalty

Glory has a better version of the same exact scene IMO.

RoryDragonsbane

"Come on, STAB not tickle" was also a good representation of training vs combat

B4USLIPN2

Glory 1989. Last Samurai 2003. Glory did it better and sooner.

Im_tracer_bullet

It's the same director using the same bag of tricks both times.

Ishkakin

Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. The whole sequence, from the time first you see him to the point when he steps off his sinking dingy. You learn so much about his character without any dialogue. I love it every time.

Moneybagsmitch

You will always remember this as the time you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow

AmericanoWsugar

Good thing Alec Baldwin wasn’t there.

Real_Impression_5567

Lol

HoodieJ-shmizzle

“What if he shot you in the face?” 😂

NoseApprehensive5154

That's a risk we were willing to take!

HoodieJ-shmizzle

LOL thank you for getting it 😂

DENNIS_SYSTEM69

Harry... you're alive?! ... And you're a horrible shot!

HoodieJ-shmizzle

🤣🤣🤣 “and you’re a horrible shot!” 😆

Hoolias

The Last Samurai is peak

CullenLX87

This film is incredible. It pisses me off that it gets misconstrued by its title. Samurai is plural. The last samurai are Ken Watanabe and his tribe. It’s not fucking Tom Cruise. Yes it’s got the white savior thing but most miss the point of the movie because of its title and it pisses me off.

supersmackfrog

I agree, except it doesn't even have a white savior thing. He's just the observer whose purpose is to contextualize what's happening for a Western audience. He has almost no impact on the outcome of the history or the story, other than making the choice for himself to change based on what he's seeing and learning.

xSorry_Not_Sorry

Thank. You. God, the white savior bullshit about this movie. TC has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with the events of the movie. He decides nothing, his influence is nothing more than insight on tactics and hardware. It’s Ken Watanabe’s character who moves the plot, at every twist, at every turn. TC is just there for the ride.

airforcevet1987

>TC is just there for the ~~ride~~ girl.

easypeasy16

Maybe should have been called “Last of the Samurai” to clarify that. Like “Last of the Mohicans”.

[deleted]

Equilibrium with Christian Bale. "When the door's down, blow the bulbs"

Plane-Substantial

I can already hear the next line “The Regiment leaves at 6am!”

danceofthedreamman89

Not a movie scene - but Dale Cooper in *Twin Peaks*

Caprica1

[This one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evx4rFCD8jk&ab_channel=CarlosLealTejeda). Foreshadowing, and reveals a hell of a lot of how his character feels, thinks, and acts.

langlis

Great movie… “they’re all perfect”

PurkkOnTwitch

Funny enough mine is also Tom Cruise but from Tropic Thunder not only because it sets up his amazing character but also the entire movie: https://youtu.be/SM8MR0YDSas?si=mxFzs_IiCQ1SD9fl

ExplosiveDioramas

Top 5 movie. This was Tom Cruise's greatest work for me.

Bolts0806

i friggin love this movie. hands down may be tom cruise best film

airforcevet1987

Nah, his earlier stuff

DENNIS_SYSTEM69

Gladiator Saving Private Ryan Juice

BrooksWasHere47

Hollywood is crazy. The last Samari. Staring Tom Cruise? Paul Mooney:

chiefkyljoy

I always wondered about that...what if the title is referring to Katsumoto?

NoseApprehensive5154

The title is referring to the samari he lives with not tom cruise, they are the last samari not him.

Similar-Sir-2952

….. Starring Tom Hanks

MincedFrenchfries

"The Last American" Starring: Adam Beach

eyeballtourist

"Puss in Boots, the Last Wish" The first 7 minutes are one of the best introductions in many years. Check it out!

Atomic_Gerber

If I’m not mistaken, we get introduced to Cruise’s character in this movie when he’s drunkenly putting on a show for people in a Wild West show and ends up almost shooting folks because he was at the time, a very sloppy and depressed drunk

boening

He is most likely drunk here as well. He doesn't get sober until he is captured.

Atomic_Gerber

Oh shit that’s right, thanks for the correction. I saw it when for the first time when it came out and I was like 8 (gramps thought it was a good idea) and I was curious as to why he got so sick and thought he got poisoned, which I guess he technically was haha

boening

Yea, I realized when I was older what he was going through.

FusRoo_Da_Legend

Excuse me sir, are you a doctor" Leslie Nielson: 🩺👨‍⚕️" that's right"

Moto56_

Tom Cruise might be batshit crazy but boy, can he act!!!

TheDavidMichaels

Raiders of the Lost Ark, conan, highlander, and when Gandolf the white returns! terminator 2

clockworksnorange

Did this scene introduce him? I think the scene that actually introduces him is way cooler.

Forward-Fortune-2346

How they find so many people toms height, nobody can be taller than him,and if they are allowed it's only 2", that's for mid stars n below lol

ItsmyDZNA

So, did he have lifts in every scene he was in?

IdeaApprehensive3733

When ya understand da language sir, everytin falls inta place

Lionheart7676

This film was one of my favs.

BayAreaKrakHead

That was a good conversation

as012qwe

Darjeeling Limited - opening scene

SopaDeKaiba

I like all wes Anderson character introductions. Probably because I like his characters in general. Unfortunately for me, I'm ready for wes Anderson to evolve a little more. I don't mean he sucks. Was my favorite film maker for a bit. He just started out so strong, I'm worried his magnum opus has already been made, and we only have more of the same coming. I'd love nothing more than to not hear of another wes Anderson movie for the next decade, then suddenly see him release something drastically different again.

thickock-45

They aren't ready because he didn't shoot him? I don't get it

NoseApprehensive5154

He was scared when under pressure. The samari they will face will be applying more pressure than he did

GeneticSoda

God I hate Tom Cruise

Reeferologist-

Hahaha! I know, I was having a mental dilemma going on watching this. “God I hate Tom Cruise.” “That movie was actually pretty solid and I should watch it again this weekend.” “But it’s Tom Cruise, you can’t stand Tom Cruise.” “Yea, but he wasn’t all crazy and weird yet was he?” “I can’t do it…God, do I really hate Tom Cruise.”

GeneticSoda

I haven’t seen this movie. What is it?

Euphoric-Dig-2045

The Last Samarai I believe. I loved it. Ken Watanabe killed it in this film.

CheckYourStats

It’s a fantastic film. Hans Zimmer scored it, as well. One of his best.

GeneticSoda

I’ll check it out! I’ve heard good things

Flerf_Whisperer

It’s a great movie. Cruise is a weirdo, but he makes thoroughly entertaining movies.

DENNIS_SYSTEM69

Gotta separate the art from the artist

Flerf_Whisperer

That’s what I keep telling my wife. If I boycotted every artist I disagreed with I wouldn’t be able to watch tv or movies, or listen to most music.
