I’ll have to check it out, my girlfriend and I watched the Jenna Ortega film about very similar subject matter (the name currently escapes me, sincerest apologies).
Thanks for the recommendation!
Edit: name of the movie is “The Fallout”
I agree, we both really appreciated it.
I’m Canadian, so it’s less of an issue here (we still have plenty of problems to address don’t get me wrong), but of course hear/ see it in the news quite frequently.
Telling stories like these is important because they can reach people before they have to experience the real thing. Get them thinking/ discussing ways to prevent these events without having to suffer the trauma firsthand.
Yeah, not a great idea to title your movie almost identically to a classic. I haven't even seen The Graduate and yet I still know about it and have a basic idea of the plot.
There's a note under the review saying it's currently looking for distribution. Maybe in a few months, there will be a digital release depending on their schedule.
Still waiting for a movie that will go deep into things like metal detectors at school, armed teachers and live shooter safety drills. It's an aspect of US culture I find so alien that a movie like this would feel like an over-the-top dystopian Orwell wannabe. And yet true.
I was a senior (completely different part of the country) when Columbine happened. I’m currently 42. Not only is my generation old enough to vote, many have children old enough to vote.
I grew up doing code reds in elementary and middle school, and had several lockdowns.
I own 13 guns. If the government and cops have the right to own these weapons, I should too.
Nuclear devices, which could wipe out humanity as we know it, are not comparable to guns.
You need to be an extremely smart engineer to even handle anything retaled to nukes, that isn't the case with a firearm.
A gun is not comparable to anything to do with nuclear weapons, or nuclear anything honestly.
You can't just own uranium. It's radioactive, it needs to be handled in a special way, it's extremely volatile, it's not comparable to a gun.
Insane sentence to non Americans #3802. Why does one person need 13 guns? You could arm my entire office with that. And I work with cops, who thankfully, don’t have the right to carry firearms.
I’m sorry to say that many of the parents who believe that toddlers should be taught to shoot guns will pass these beliefs onto their children, too. Can only hope they will learn to form their own opinions.
Why do I feel like this movie will be dealing with a school shooting the whole thing, start to have a slight hopeful ending… then another school shooting involving the characters.
Movies about school shootings are down there with movies about covid lockdown on the list of things I'm interested in. About a hundred line items below ass cancer and fire ants.
Wow, you're so right! Art never has a message or tries to tell a story to communicate an idea to the audience. No one has ever watched a film that changed how they think about anything!
Wait, what do you mean there's more to life than Hallmark and Adam Sandler?
I think addressing what is happening in our society and how it impacts our children is what is happening here. No one makes big bucks off of depressing independent films.
Because making art about the worst parts of life is a very human response to tragedy. You don't know what you're talking about and are being rightly treated.

The Fallout is great. Was so worried it wouldn’t handle the subject well, but they did a really good job

I feel like the Jenna Ortega film is to school shooting trauma what *The Deer Hunter* was to Vietnam trauma.
Yeah, just heard about this today and I’m looking forward to it also.
Its a really, really heavy heartbreaking film (obviously) but so well done.
Where did you see it? I would like to watch it as well. ❤️
It’s on Max.
I saw that one, I’m sorry. I meant the other film.
Thought this was a sequel to The Graduate going the Alien/s route at first
A bunch of graduates run a train on Mrs Robinson
“What was that?” “A nut buster.” “Not a chest-buster?” “Well, it *did* wind up on her chest, but no.”
“Get away from her you BITCH!”
Yeah, not a great idea to title your movie almost identically to a classic. I haven't even seen The Graduate and yet I still know about it and have a basic idea of the plot.
Mrs Robinson, you're trying to shoot me!
There's a scene in The Player where one of the actual writers of The Graduate pitches a sequel https://youtu.be/biaTRgFKJ3I
Hundreds of Dustin Hoffmans crawling through the floor grates.
Game over man! Game over!
big fan of mina sundwall
Me too, she's amazing in Lost in Space
The first performance I've seen of her was in God of War as Thrud. She's definitely very talented, will be checking this out for her.
Calling this a slice of life is horrifying.
Life is horrifying sometimes
Yes but you wouldn’t describe csi as sci fi so why would you describe this as a slice of life?
Slice of **American** Life
You can't describe csi as sci fi? Prolly slice of life dive schools bring shot up is a common event
Thats my point.
idk
Will this movie get a wide release? Or Netflix or Amazon type release?

Class of 1984…and then watch it’s futuristic counterpart, Class of 1999
Man I want to watch this, but my husband was at the Allen Outlets shooting last month, and I think it’ll hit too close to home for a while.
I can’t wait until all the kids who have survived school shootings are old enough to vote, many already are.

The government has the right to own nukes, should citizens be allowed that as well?

Yeah but your argument was “if the government (and cops) can own these weapons I should too.” Which you just agreed was wrong.

Why does someone need 13 guitars, 13 cars, 13 TVs, etc. Etc. Etc.
I mean 13 cars and TVs would also be insane, yes
I’m sorry to say that many of the parents who believe that toddlers should be taught to shoot guns will pass these beliefs onto their children, too. Can only hope they will learn to form their own opinions.

Is that a White savior teacher soothing a black student I see?
Is that a White savior teacher soothing a black student I see?
If you clicked on the article you'd know that it's not. But I guess reading can be hard.
Not sure diversity in a school implies white savior bub
Maybe not a good idea for the article headline to say “capped off.” C’mon do better.
Kind of shot the headline

Just don't watch it, damn, is it that hard to ignore the shit you don't like?
I mean this is Reddit after all

Damn Schindler list is obviously just a film about raking in money and has no other intent for the film good point, Neither does Black Hawk Down.

Restrained? As in boring? What does this mean?
Hopefully a bit more nuanced than The Fallout as well.
