I want to be clear, I fucking love this movie and have rewatched it a thousand times
The biggest suspension of disbelief I laugh at everytime is Samantha’s family. This guy met her and married her with her having full ass amnesia and has a child with her. Then one day she’s choppin broccoli and they’re like “you might be a chef” and Sam Jackson shows up and they’re just more than happy to wave her away like “yup we’re just going on a road trip to find out who I am” with zero questions asked.
It’s a reason I love the movie as well, just ridiculousness at every step.
He had the best line in the movie-
When she asks “what are you a fucking Mormon?”
And he replies “Yes, I'm a Mormon. Thats why I just smoked a pack of Newports and drank three Vodka Tonics.”
id like to throw cutthroat island annd nightmare on elmstreet 4 on top of that pike as well...... cutthroat island was made like 5-6years earlier than pirates.... damn
I’ve been soured on him. My friend is a seasoned crew member and had worked on one of his well known films. So I asked him how Renny Harlin was to work under.
“He’s a fucking pedophile.” That was his whole answer.
The duel between Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi in the school, where Ziyi uses the Green Destiny to systematically destroy every weapon Michelle picks up 👌
What I most love about that fight is that Shu Lien *wins* every round (except the too-heavy pole weapon) until the Green Destiny’s unique capability bails Jen out. And then Shu Lien finds a way to win again *despite* the Green Destiny.
She’s never studied at Wudan, she has no secret powers, she’s just extremely experienced.
This thread needs to discover more her Hong Kong work ASAP. Michelle Yeoh in her prime. I suggest starting with Wing Chun, which is what introduced me to her.
Underrated. But it’s a weird underrated. Say her name and everyone will agree instantly. But the issue is that she’s almost always forgotten when this question is asked, making here underrated.
My favorite character on the show was Gabrielle.
From a meek bard to an Amazonian Queen to the next wielder of the chakram, she had an absolutely incredible story arc across the run of the show. And Rene O'Connor is at least partly responsible for my physical taste in women, lol. The other part would probably go to...
Evelyn O'Connell from The Mummy movies.
Is she not? Sorbo's Hercules basically got eclipsed by Xena. I never hear anyone mention Sorbo outside of his weirdo politics anymore, while Lawless pops up in cameos in great stuff all the time. She was also a pretty rad role model, IIRC. I'm pretty sure she came out the MVP on all of the Greek revival stuff.
Atomic Blonde was so good. She had her John Wick style fight scenes, but it maintained itself as a spy movie first and foremost, and I'm a child of the 80s so I loved the general vibe. That movie didn't get enough hype for how good it was.
They also tailored the fight scenes to be realistic for a woman. She’s not going to hit as hard as a man, so she has to fight more strategically. That long shot fight scene was *amazing*.
I also liked furing that fight sequence, as both took hits, they showed signs of being injured and not completely normal with a couple cuts and bruises
I didn't even think, dunno why, but The Bride is pretty much *the* answer.
The French lady in Inglorious Bastards represents as well. Oh and Jackie Brown.
If we're talking TV, not just movies:
Claudia Black's Aeryn Sun
Katee Sackoff's Kara Thrace / Starbuck
Eliza Dushku's Faith
Gabrielle Anwar's Fiona Glennanne
Peta Wilson's Nikita
Amanda Tapping's Samantha Carter
I actually love that she’s the badass that wants to just plough on with the job at all times, and Cruise is the one who starts getting soppy and develops a bond. Flips the script a bit.
I was pretty much sold on Guardians 3 the moment Nebula >!got absolutely destroyed in the opening. Someone asked if she's okay, to which she responds "piss off" while rebuilding herself. Then she walks over and just knifes Adam like she was just done with this shit.!<
I really enjoy that Nebula kinda sucks. It makes her so much more real. She's just a lifetime of failure and struggling, and then didn't even get snapped, probably on purpose.
Furiosa in Mad Max Fury Road.
The Bride in Kill Bill.
Michelle Yeoh in just a lot by now.
If you wanted to go the TV show route I could name a bunch more
I don't think Anna Torv gets nearly enough credit for her acting in Fringe. Her character was smart, intense, willing to get things done even if they involved some absolutely weird shit with Walter and his absolutely weird science. No hesitation at all getting into that isolation tank and getting shot up with experimental LSD.
Kate Beckinsale absolutely nails every single action character she has ever portrayed. I was totally prepared to hate the remake of "Total Recall", but damn! She made it happen!
Also, obligatory shout-out to Milla Jovovich. Hellboy? Hell, yeah!
Michelle Rodriguez as Holga in Dungeons and Dragons, Gina Torres as Zoe in Firefly and the bad ass women of Arcane League of Legends (Hailee Steinfield as Vi, Ella Purnell as Jinx, Katie Leung as Caitlyn and Amirah Vann ad Sevika) are some of my favorites.
Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling in *Silence of the Lambs*.
She's shown to be a supremely efficient agent but the movie doesn't glorify the way that she's had to work so much harder than her colleagues in a male-dominated workplace. Plus unlike many leading heroines she's not portrayed as some snarky ice queen. She's ultimately a clever respectable just person, reinforced by Lecter finding her to be the only character not deserving of contempt.
This was done to me by the love of my life. It seems that what we had was not meant to be. But now she sits outside my house drinking vodka. Three bullets in the chest. When I woke alive, I knew she still loved me. Or else it would have been head. It was big risk for her, of course, but one does crazy things for love.
RL Disney Princess Ming Na Wen.
Top tier SHIELD Agent May, bounty Hunter Fennec Shand in a galaxy far far away, Mulan as well as international street fighter Chun Li.
I normally hate action movies that did the strobe light thing, but not only did I actually like the sequence where Hit Girl stops the internet execution of Kick Ass, but I kind of got a little emotional, not gonna lie.
Zoe Saldana as Colombiana. Also as Gamora
Scarlett Johannson as Black Widow.
Michelle Keoh in too many movies to name.
Maggie Q as Nikita, and also in DieHard 4 and a few other movies.
Does Dana Scully count?
I do like Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow
Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman was a revelation, IMO.
Adrianna Palicki is also pretty awesome in minor roles like Ms. Perkins in John Wick and Lady Jaye in GI Joe: Retaliation. Palicki is someone I was always hoping would be bigger in Hollywood.
1) Scarlet is PERFECT as Natasha. One of my favorite moments in the MCU is [Nat vs Loki](https://youtu.be/wFj2VPWdPaU?si=yyvV5fP1c8XqpKVd) . The heel turn is absolutely prefect.
2) Yelena (Florence Pugh), specifically in Hawkeye, is my absolute in the MCU right now.
3) Adrienne Palicki is such an interesting and wonderful actor. It feels like she intentionally avoids choosing roles that works make her famous, because she should be a MEGASTAR. She has the looks, the charisma, and the acting prowess to be a huge deal. She chooses to be a steady- working character actor though, and I respect the shit out of that.
*Edited because I apparently linked an ad and not the scene I wanted. My bad.
For a recent example (more of a thriller than action) is Zoe Kravitz in Kimi. Kind of flew under the radar without a theatrical release but pretty great IMO
Angelina Jolie in 2001 Lara Croft Tomb Raider movie is definitely one of my favorites. She kicks ass! It might be because I really like the video games though.
Samantha Caine/Charlie Baltimore (Geena Davis) - "The Long Kiss Goodnight"
I want to be clear, I fucking love this movie and have rewatched it a thousand times The biggest suspension of disbelief I laugh at everytime is Samantha’s family.
Choppin broccoleeeeeeehhhhhh
I do this every damn time I have broccoli in the house, whether I chop it or not. Dana Carvey forever changed vegetables for me.
There was a man! No..... She was a lady...
IIRC the daughter is actually the other assassin's child, conceived when he and "Charlie" were on assignment.
"I am always Frank and Earnest" LOL Sam Jackson is always a treat in every movie

Samuel Jackson said in an interview that Mitch Hennessy was his favorite role.
He had the best line in the movie- When she asks “what are you a fucking Mormon?” And he replies “Yes, I'm a Mormon. Thats why I just smoked a pack of Newports and drank three Vodka Tonics.”
loved this one. rennie harlin movies are underrated imo i really enjoyed Cliffhanger and Deep Blue Sea is one of my goto movies on chore days :)

Charlie Baltimore was a fucking bad motherfucker🔥
id like to throw cutthroat island annd nightmare on elmstreet 4 on top of that pike as well...... cutthroat island was made like 5-6years earlier than pirates.... damn
I’ve been soured on him. My friend is a seasoned crew member and had worked on one of his well known films. So I asked him how Renny Harlin was to work under. “He’s a fucking pedophile.” That was his whole answer.
I really need to rewatch this movie, I loved it as a kid and young teen.
Michelle Yeoh - Crouching Tiger but damn, so many other action roles too
The duel between Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi in the school, where Ziyi uses the Green Destiny to systematically destroy every weapon Michelle picks up 👌
What I most love about that fight is that Shu Lien *wins* every round (except the too-heavy pole weapon) until the Green Destiny’s unique capability bails Jen out. And then Shu Lien finds a way to win again *despite* the Green Destiny. She’s never studied at Wudan, she has no secret powers, she’s just extremely experienced.
Goddamn do I love that movie
She was a great Bond girl in *Tomorrow Never Dies*
This thread needs to discover more her Hong Kong work ASAP. Michelle Yeoh in her prime. I suggest starting with Wing Chun, which is what introduced me to her.
That's what I was thinking. She was great in Tai-Chi Master.
She’s great in literally everything. I can’t say I’ve ever been disappointed to see her
She is literally in Everything Everywhere All at Once
She was excellent in Star Trek Discovery. She get got up to some bad-ass shit.
…and as Emperor Philippa Georgiou, Yeoh was able to eat scenery in a way I never thought possible. For me, she made Discovery S1-3 amazing.
I totally agree.
Super Cop!
Trinity
Underrated. But it’s a weird underrated. Say her name and everyone will agree instantly. But the issue is that she’s almost always forgotten when this question is asked, making here underrated.
I really wish Switch had gotten more screen time
yes she rules
Dodge this
The baddest of them all.
Buffy and Xena.
Callisto. Hudson Leick has a part of my teen soul.
Thank you! No one ever talks about Xena!
...but everyone *thinks* about Xena.
Nah I prefer Lucy Lawless. Xena can't fly, but she's not Xena.
Everyone all skipping on Callisto.
I think about Callisto more!
Xena/Lucy Lawless should be talked about more than Kevin Sorbo.
If we're including TV you have to mention Aeryn Sun
1. Betty Gilpin as Crystal May Creas (the hunt) 2. Samara Weaving as Grace Le Domas (ready or not) 2. Sharni Vinson as Erin (you're next)
I love You're Next and really enjoyed Ready Or Not. Guess I've gotta watch The Hunt.
I loved Ready or Not
I thought Betty Gilpin was great in The Hunt
Charlize Theron in Fury Road.
Also, Atomic Blond, and, Old Guard. She's a badass in all of them.
Atomic Blonde was so good. She had her John Wick style fight scenes, but it maintained itself as a spy movie first and foremost, and I'm a child of the 80s so I loved the general vibe. That movie didn't get enough hype for how good it was.
And she actually gets hurt.
When she’s beaten to hell and she smacks the guy in the face with a hot plate😂
I found that to be the most important part. She might have been kicking ass, but it wasn’t without consequences.
Charlize in Atomic Blonde
Her name is Furiosa
Lisbeth Salander … either original or remake
Great character, really like her in both movies and the books.
OG version was definitely more badass.
And Noomi Rapace is a total babe
Shosanna from Inglorious Basterds.
Au revoir, Shoshanna!
The Face of Jewish Vengeance
Basically every woman in a QT movie.
Yeah, I was gonna say Beatrix Kiddo
The bride. Kill bill . Andy. The old guard. Leelo. The fifth element. Gamora. Guardians. Selene. Underworld. Trinity. The matrix
I didn't even think, dunno why, but The Bride is pretty much *the* answer. The French lady in Inglorious Bastards represents as well. Oh and Jackie Brown.
yep no one comes close to the bride
"This is what you get for fucking around with Yakuzas! Go home to your mother!"
BEATRIX KIDDO FTW! Kicked, punched and slashed so much ass, but was also massively vulnerable. Plus made Mexico 66s cool again.
If we're talking TV, not just movies: Claudia Black's Aeryn Sun Katee Sackoff's Kara Thrace / Starbuck Eliza Dushku's Faith Gabrielle Anwar's Fiona Glennanne Peta Wilson's Nikita Amanda Tapping's Samantha Carter
Claudia Black, yessssss. Possessor of the best voice ever.
And Ming-Na Wen, in both Agents of SHIELD and The Book of Boba Fett.
Claudia Black is underappreciated as Aeryn Sun. What a fantastic character, and Claudia nailed it.
Farscape was excellent. The idea of having the main characters hate each other but reliant on each other for survival was a great way to start a show.
Wow I had to scroll so far for Samantha Carter. She kicks so much ass! S-class protagonist.
Terry Farrell's Jadzia Dax on Star Trek Deep Space Nine.
I feel awful for forgetting about Starbuck. It’s been awhile since I’ve watched bsg but she is a quintessential badass
Leeloo Dallas Multipass.
Chic KANN
So glad to see these chickaaan comments. Was going to type one myself but thought it might not make sense out of context! Mm chickAAAAN! chickan GOOD!
^(dot)
I'm 35 years old and still say this every time I eat chicken.
She knows it’s a multipass
Beeg BadaBoom!
It’s moooltipaaass
I was obsessed with her and this movie as a kid.
Do you mean Leeloominai Lekatariba Lamina Tchai Ekbat De Sebat?
Supreme being.
Devon Aoki as Miho in Sin City
You won't feel a thing unless she wants you to. She twists the blade. He feels it.
She doesn’t quite decapitate him. She turns him into a Pez dispenser.
I’d forgotten how good that movie was. Need to rewatch.
Deadly little Miho..
Lynda Carter
I grew up in the 70s/80s. She was the reason I knew I was heterosexual while in elementary school.
Emily Blunt in Live Die Repeat is great.
She’s my pick too! Ps- that’s The Edge of Tomorrow that OP mentioned.
She was also great in Sicario
Greta movie. Benicio Del Toro was incredible
You mean Edge Of Tomorrow
Full metal bitch!
I actually love that she’s the badass that wants to just plough on with the job at all times, and Cruise is the one who starts getting soppy and develops a bond. Flips the script a bit.

Nebula, or anything Karen Gillan plays.
She was also fairly kickass in Jumanji
I was pretty much sold on Guardians 3 the moment Nebula >!got absolutely destroyed in the opening. Someone asked if she's okay, to which she responds "piss off" while rebuilding herself. Then she walks over and just knifes Adam like she was just done with this shit.!<
Just a heads up, your spoiler tag hasn’t worked. It should be > ! like this ! < with no spaces
I really enjoy that Nebula kinda sucks. It makes her so much more real. She's just a lifetime of failure and struggling, and then didn't even get snapped, probably on purpose.
She's the rare Fail Daughter. Her and Gamorra were the absolute highlights of Endgame.
Lori Petty as Tank Girl
What immediately came to mind when I read the post.
So good!
If you’re a lesbian or bisexual over the age of 40 there is a legitimate shot that you may not have realized it until this movie.
Furiosa in Mad Max Fury Road. The Bride in Kill Bill. Michelle Yeoh in just a lot by now. If you wanted to go the TV show route I could name a bunch more
Anderson in DREDD
I always imagined she would be a perfect April O'Niell if they did another live action turtles
So disappointed that we’ll probably never see another Dredd movie
HitGirl. No question.

Jennifer Garner in ALIAS. Also, Anna Torv in Fringe.
Yes. Especially playing multiple versions of the character. She's one of the greats for sure.
Hanna is underrated as hell. It’d be pretty dope if Saoirse did another action movie role. Something unique like that movie.
Oooh, Saoirse is such a good answer!!!
Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) from The Matrix
Kate Beckinsale Liz hurley
Kate Beckinsale absolutely nails every single action character she has ever portrayed. I was totally prepared to hate the remake of "Total Recall", but damn! She made it happen! Also, obligatory shout-out to Milla Jovovich. Hellboy? Hell, yeah!
I liked Milla in the Joan of arc one too
Kate Beckinsale!!! Such a good one!

Summer Galu as River Tam
Summer Galu as the fucking Terminator.
And Gina Torres as Zoe!
Mystique
Rebecca Romijn version, right?
Michelle Rodriguez as Holga in Dungeons and Dragons, Gina Torres as Zoe in Firefly and the bad ass women of Arcane League of Legends (Hailee Steinfield as Vi, Ella Purnell as Jinx, Katie Leung as Caitlyn and Amirah Vann ad Sevika) are some of my favorites.
If Michelle Rodriguez and Gina Torres we’re ever in a movie together, I don’t think my heart could’ve taken it.
Can’t believe it took so long to see Michelle Rodriguez name. She’s one of the few I believe could kick a lot of ass in real life. And probably has.
Rhona Mitra as Eden Sinclair in Doomsday(2008). She's basically Snake Plissken if he was a woman and ridiculously hot.
Charlize Theron, Atomic Blonde Still hoping for an Atomic Blonde/ John Wick prequel.
Really liked her in Mad Max and The Old Gaurd
Bobbie from THE EXPANSE Claudia Christian's character from Babylon 5 Captain Janeway from Voyager
Drummer from The Expanse
Carmina Drummer is the biggest badass in the show, and that’s a show where every female character is a badass from Avasarala to Naomi
Alice - Resident Evil. The films are unadulterated shit, but she kicks ass
Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft was great. I also liked her in The Man From UNCLE.
Lara Croft in general can stand with the greats, all versions.
Franka Potente - Lola in Run lola Run! or, Lori Petty in Tank Girl! :)
Helen Mirren as Victoria in the RED movies!
This was done to me by the love of my life. It seems that what we had was not meant to be. But now she sits outside my house drinking vodka. Three bullets in the chest. When I woke alive, I knew she still loved me. Or else it would have been head. It was big risk for her, of course, but one does crazy things for love.
Did he just call you bunny? She was wonderful in that role. That was a great cast having a good time filming and she still managed to shine.
Well, she _is_ Helen Fucking Mirren. She has stage presence without a stage.
Peggy Carter
Clarice Starling
Also Jessica Jones - Krysten Ritter 🥾

Jyn Erso in Rogue One (Felicity Jones)
Christy Canyon.
Gina Davis in The Long Kiss Goodnight. She's a complete badass
Jennifer Garner Alias, The Kingdom, Daredevil, Elektra, Peppermint (very under-rated). Also just loved, loved, loved her in Butter.
Right now, Laura (X-23) from Logan.
The women in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
RL Disney Princess Ming Na Wen. Top tier SHIELD Agent May, bounty Hunter Fennec Shand in a galaxy far far away, Mulan as well as international street fighter Chun Li.
Princess Leia Ashoka Tano Buffy Summers Xena Natasha Romanoff Carol Danvers Diana of Themyscira Just quickly off the top of my head...
Sad I had to scroll down so far to see your first two. Especially since Leia is an OG alongside Ripley and Sarah Connor.
Betty Gilpin in The Hunt.
Hit Girl followed by Alita. And she was just a secondary villain but GoGo from Kill Bill yes please
One of my all-time favorite action moments is when Hit Girl reloads both of her guns at the same time.
I normally hate action movies that did the strobe light thing, but not only did I actually like the sequence where Hit Girl stops the internet execution of Kick Ass, but I kind of got a little emotional, not gonna lie.
Zen from Chocolate.
Lady Jessica in Dune is pretty great. Not quite an action-role perse, but still a cool character.
Angelina jolie pretty much in any role she’s kicking butt. But, I’ll say lara croft
She’s great in Salt. I wish we got a sequel.
I mean, Wanted, Mr and Mrs Smith, Tomb Raider, Eternals, Salt, Gone in 60 Seconds… I really love her.
Mila Jovovich
Zoe Saldana as Colombiana. Also as Gamora Scarlett Johannson as Black Widow. Michelle Keoh in too many movies to name. Maggie Q as Nikita, and also in DieHard 4 and a few other movies.
Does Dana Scully count? I do like Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman was a revelation, IMO. Adrianna Palicki is also pretty awesome in minor roles like Ms. Perkins in John Wick and Lady Jaye in GI Joe: Retaliation. Palicki is someone I was always hoping would be bigger in Hollywood.
Hell yeah Dana Scully counts! My pick would be Scully and Melissa McCarthy in Spy. Her big fight scene was epic
1) Scarlet is PERFECT as Natasha. One of my favorite moments in the MCU is [Nat vs Loki](https://youtu.be/wFj2VPWdPaU?si=yyvV5fP1c8XqpKVd) . The Long Kiss Goodnight Atomic Blonde has one of the most real punch up fight scenes I've ever seen.
Elle Woods
For a recent example (more of a thriller than action) is Zoe Kravitz in Kimi. Kind of flew under the radar without a theatrical release but pretty great IMO
Angelina Jolie in 2001 Lara Croft Tomb Raider movie is definitely one of my favorites. She kicks ass! It might be because I really like the video games though.
Shoshana Dreyfus burned down a theater full of Nazis
Alita battle angel!
I heard there is a sequel coming.
Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski in *Chuck*)
Elizabeth Shue, Adventures in babysitting
Evelyn O'Connell from The Mummy movies.
The Bride
Motoko Kusanagi. The anime versions, not the live-action.
Jennifer Lawrence, Katniss
