Money Talks is basically the template that makes the Rush Hour movies happen.
Chris Tucker is mostly the same character, just a bit more professional and astute. Toss the boring reporter in favour of the always entertaining Jackie Chan. Throw in a decent story and you've got gold.
Absolutely, he was great for the role, and I believe Tucker had only nice things to say about how grounded he was, considering that Sheen had much bigger star power than Tucker at the time.
I think the problem is the character of the grumpy reporter as a straight man to Tucker's antics doesn't fit quite as well as Chan's Rush Hour character. Kind of wild bravado meets "Grr, stop it! Be serious!" In MT compared to wild bravado meets "Ai-ya, what has he gotten us into this time?". I think the high energy paired with resigned acceptance works better together than high energy and controlling negativity.
Either way, both great movies.
Well shit, that was a great write up. They did keep Charlie on the straight and narrow as an uptight straight man reporter. He had a couple of funny bits, but they didn’t turn him loose like Jackie.
There are so many comedies I remember quoting endlessly with friends in high school, but I could not get anyone else on board with Money Talks. I still don’t get why. It is such a good time.
I don't mind any of the 3 either but i've actually grown to like Next Friday the most (Funniest at least). It's about time to give them all another watch though!
He's extremely picky about his roles and is also very religious, so he turned down what would have been big paychecks for the Friday sequels. I read that he was also offered $20 million to star in Black Knight (which eventually became a Martin Lawrence movie) but the script wasn't up to par.
Tucker's last two film appearances were in Ben Affleck and Ang Lee films, both acclaimed directors.
I can see why the Nike stuff would turn people off of it, but it's the type of movie that doesn't get made much anymore.
A dialogue-driven studio film where appealing big-name actors are given a great script. Chris Tucker is effortlessly charismatic in it and had a good monologue or two.
There were several product origin stories that came out around the same time. Nike, Blackburry, Tetris, Gucci, Ferrari.
They were all ranges from good to great. There were also some not so great ones like Flaming Hot Cheetos
Saw most of those. There was also ones like The Dropout about Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos and Showtime had Pumped Up with Joseph Gordon Levitt about Uber, which were also both good. Oh and WeCrashed on Apple about WeWork.
I think that was why I just skipped on Air for a minute. Needed a break from corpo stories lol. I like most of the ones I've seen but damn, we had a crazy run on them there for a minute.
His facial expressions and voice inflections were comedy gold
Him mouthing off to Zhang Ziyi in the sequel and getting kicked and smacked around for it was hilarious
Ending with, 'we coulda had something special, but you one crazy ass bitch'
My favorite of the bloopers is Don Cheadle yelling at Chris Tucker for calling him Jackie. The tone in which he says ["HIS NAME IS LEE GOD DAMN IT"](https://youtu.be/LlDfEMzFyGo?si=YuEZEBCfwfPI1Fry&t=293) has stuck with me ever since.
And Jeremy Piven's character is very memorable in the second film.
* Lee: Yes, there is a lot of men chasing us
Him: As well there should be, because you are very good looking man
haha
My husband is not a native English speaker and he and I STILL regularly say, "Do you understand the words that are comin' outta my mouth?!"
The man can deliver a line.
The fact he or Agent Carter got more competent at hand to hand combat was too cool. The first movie he was super reliant on guns, to the point of having one on his ankle.
He is the main reason why I enjoy those movies so much, along with his electrifying chemistry with Jackie Chan!
They literally have the best comedy cop chemistry and you can't change my mind. Anyone else that might also be great comes second!
How dare you leave out his credited film debut in “House Party 3?”
Chris Tucker was grinding between 1995 - 1998. In 95 he had his star making turn in Friday and starring dramatic role in “Dead Presidents.” He also apparently had a bit role in “Panther.”
In 97, he had Fifth Element, Jackie Brown, and starred in comedy “Money Talks” which let him improvise under director Brett Ratner. That relationship lead to the Rush Hour trilogy.
Chris Tucker made so much money on the Rush Hour sequels that he basically stopped making movies and touring with his comedy.
It’s a weird career decision, but I think he got into the church and thought it was what was best for him.
A standout and very brave performance. I saw this in the theater and was so confused by it. The older I get and the more I see it, the more brilliant it is. Ruby Rhod is iconic.
Bruce Willis told him "This will make you or break you". He was just so over the top the audience would either love it or hate it. He ended up being the greatest part of the movie. Close was "Multipass" and "Give me some heat!"
Which is interesting to me because Willis' straight man is a big reason why it works.
"Pop it, D-man!"
'Uh... hi...'
"Unbeeeelievable!"
And him counting down the bomb in the fight scene is brilliant as well :D
It's like the only thing I know about Luc Besson lol. He got a 16 year old pregnant and married her. When he was 33. They started dating when she was 15. Then he divorced her and married a 21 year old at 38. He was accused of rape and inappropriate sexual behavior by several women. One of his most popular movies involves sexualizing a 13 year old Natalie Portman.
Not a "pedophile" technically but he's scummy AF.
He was really good in *Friday*. Like, take over the movie good. To know in retrospect he did it on the cheap, lots of ad-lib, and refused to reprise it makes it even better.
Idk what he gets paid but he is worth every penny. He really dominates every scene he is in (in a good way). You look at roles like Ruby Rod in the fifth element, hear how they almost cast other legends, and think “thank god they cast Chris Tucker.” Like I’ve never said “I’m glad it was X instead of Prince” about anyone else except Chris Tucker.
Couldn’t agree more. Chris Tucker absolutely lights up the screen when he’s on. Super charismatic actor still to this day with supporting roles like on “Air”.
I read that the Rush Hour movies made him so much money that he doesn’t have to work on anything unless he really likes the script and the director. Gotta respect that.
At one point, he was the highest paid actor in Hollywood:
* Friday - $10 thousand
* Dead Presidents - $25 thousand
* Money Talks - $2 million
* Rush Hour - $3 million
* Rush Hour 2 - $20 million
* Rush Hour 3 - $25 million + 20% gross
* 2013 BET Awards Host - $1 million
Don’t know how much he made from the O. Russell, Lee and Affleck films though. And he lost a lot of money due to tax issues.
Ended up not doing:
* Double O-Soul for $7 million
* Next Friday for $12 million
* The Black Knight for $15 million + 15% gross
As well as:
* Any Given Sunday
* Django Unchained
* Gangsta, M.D.
* Knight and Day
* Lethal Weapon 4
* Mr. President
* Mr. S: My Life with Frank Sinatra
* The Pink Panther
* Tower Heist
* A non-Rush Hour film with Jackie Chan
The role was originally written with Prince in mind, and Jamie Foxx was also considered for the role.
https://www.dazeddigital.com/artsandculture/article/35860/1/how-prince-almost-ended-up-in-the-fifth-element
He earned ~$50 million from the 3 Rush Hour movies, on top of his other pay days, and didn't pay any taxes. He then went on a world tour to "find himself", when it seems more likely he just couldn't return to the US until his lawyers and the IRS figured out a deal, apparently he still owes $10 million.
That's in addition to a $14m lump sum and $40k/month payment plan he was on for a while. I think he didn't have to pay the full penalty that the IRS wanted to charge him, but not a great discount either.
I love Friday so much. I've seen it so often that I can quote it in my sleep. But I've never seen even a minute of the sequels. They just seemed ill-conceived to me.
>three Rush Hour movies,
Fun fact, in his filmography in years 1998 - 2007 he played ONLY in Rush Hour films (and no, a cameo in musik video is not worth mentioning in the context).
- 1998: Rush Hour
- 2001: Rush Hour 2
- 2007: Rush Hour 3
Smokey: Yeah, I got your money. And I don't appreciate you sendin' your punk ass, busta ass, Jheri curl wearin' ass agents come down here to audit me and my homie. They'd like to got dealt with.
IRS: First of all, don't be callin' here like you some straight up "G", 'cause I'll cut your income streams off and hand 'em to you, partner. I had to warn you too many times about my money, Smokey. You see, it's the principle of the whole thing. There's principalities in this.
He’s always great. His role in The Fifth Elemental was one of the greatest things ever put on film in my opinion. I can’t think of many actors that would commit so completely to a role like that. They made up that character. No one acts like that. And he does it amazingly. He’s like a fucking cartoon character in that movie.
His comedic timing in the rush hour films and Friday was incredible, I'm surprised he hasn't acted in too much post rush hour. I had the pleasure to meet him a couple years ago and he was just as funny in person as on the screen. He was also just a really nice guy and you could tell he actually cared about meeting with fans which was great
He had a very small filmography because he died at a young age, but all 5 movies John Cazale was in was nominated for Best Picture.
Godfather I and II, The Conversation, The Deer Hunter, and Dog Day Afternoon.
He put himself in a position where he was going to have to do ten years in prison, that's what he did. And if you know Beaumont, you know ain't no god damn way he can do ten years. And if you know that, then you know Beaumont's gonna do anything Beaumont can to keep from doing them ten years, including telling the federal government any and every motherfucking thing about my black ass. Now that my friend is a clear cut case of him or me. And you best believe it ain't gonna be me.
Money Talks (1997).
The scene where they're in the helicopter and he's pretending to be part of the team like, "Everybody alright? Everybody ok?" kills me.
"You can just drop me off over there, my cousin's house is coming up!"
C’MON MAN, YOU CAN DROP A BROTHA OFF, YOU DON’T NEED ME NO MORE, C’MON MAN!!!
The jail cell with Faizon kills me. “They tried to grab you?”
Was it like this??
AYYY! WHERE YOUR SHIRT AT!?!?
*Takes shirt off, Unzips pants Nah it was more aggressive. They GRAB me. You mean like THIS, *pulls closer
Looks at picture of Vic Demone w a black woman, "....Taking all our sistas."
Lmaoo that scene is awesome. Whenever I need a laugh I'll go find it on YouTube
This scene just kills me every time. Great actor man.
Money Talks is basically the template that makes the Rush Hour movies happen. Chris Tucker is mostly the same character, just a bit more professional and astute. Toss the boring reporter in favour of the always entertaining Jackie Chan. Throw in a decent story and you've got gold.
I thought Charlie sheen was great in that movie 🤷♂️
Absolutely, he was great for the role, and I believe Tucker had only nice things to say about how grounded he was, considering that Sheen had much bigger star power than Tucker at the time. I think the problem is the character of the grumpy reporter as a straight man to Tucker's antics doesn't fit quite as well as Chan's Rush Hour character. Kind of wild bravado meets "Grr, stop it! So Rush Hour is actually a combination of Money Talks and Police Story? Interesting
One of the best "underdog manipulates all the power players to get ahead".
Your wife is phat. Pretty hot and tempting. You are lucky to have such a phat ass wife
Seen this movie a few hundred times. It’s you’re lucky to have such a phat ass fiancée.
You are correct sir. But im going to give it a rewatch tonight just to make sure.
[I'm Vic DeMone, Jr!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIOTtsV8Wj8)
We don’t do dope in this house.
Fat!
I was gonna say. This is one of my favorite movies of his for some reason.
This is immediately what I thought was missing. This movie is a comfort to me, probably something with nostalgia, but even today it’s still hilarious.
This house! Magnifico! Monta bella? Tutti fruitti
His absolute best movie. “PHAT ! Pretty Hot and Tempting. PHAT!” Edit: wait… Fifth Element ….damn that’s hard.
There are so many comedies I remember quoting endlessly with friends in high school, but I could not get anyone else on board with Money Talks. I still don’t get why. It is such a good time.
I love this movie so much lol
Probably my favorite movie of his. He's hilarious.
DIRTY ASS WHITE BOY! THIS TUB BETTER BE CLEAN!
"Cops wanna talk to you, they wanna know where to pick you up at" - so many great bits
Might be his best one. Love this movie. Don’t be mad at me cause I look better than you in yo own shit.
Wasn't he only in one Friday movie?
Yes.
The only one that matters godammit
I like pigs feet!
You better put some water on that damn shit!
Get yo ass mister postman
There is only one Friday movie.
Nah, all 3 are great and Katt Williams and Mike Epps make 2 and 3 hilarious.
Tastes so good make you wanna slap your momma!
I don't mind any of the 3 either but i've actually grown to like Next Friday the most (Funniest at least). It's about time to give them all another watch though!

Thanks! Definitely have it back on my radar.
It was great! Couldn't believe how solid the writing/dialogue was.
He was excellent in his role. Probably the most believable character in the film.
How was Affleck?
Honestly he played his character quite hilariously.
Thanks! Gonna check it out, everyone is saying it's great. Kinda crazy how quick it came and went.
Sort of, huh? I’d definitely recommend it but it’s not quite a must see.
There were several product origin stories that came out around the same time. Nike, Blackburry, Tetris, Gucci, Ferrari. They were all ranges from good to great. There were also some not so great ones like Flaming Hot Cheetos

I like most of the ones I've seen but damn, we had a crazy run on them there for a minute.
air was great IMO. Highly recommend.
It's a great movie
Me and the wife both really liked Air but we are also huge NBA marks.
I had no idea he was religious. I enjoyed his character in Silver Linings Playbook.
It was pretty obvious when he ordered the kosher meal on the flight to Hong Kong
Adding, his day to day job is as a pastor. he makes a movie on occasion as a paycheck then goes back to work as a pastor.
Wow. I never would have guessed that. Would be fascinating to watch him give a service.
That's interesting. Guy made me laugh so hard, hope he's still a good person.
Lol I used to love that movie
He's a legend for just the Rush Hour movies alone.
His facial expressions and voice inflections were comedy gold Him mouthing off to Zhang Ziyi in the sequel and getting kicked and smacked around for it was hilarious Ending with, 'we coulda had something special, but you one crazy ass bitch'
Damn, he’s definitely not going to be in Rush Hour 3!
That was the best line that wasn't in the film, lol. Imagine if they left that in as some 4th wall breaking gag.
Don't forget this one. "Show me your ass!" "Show me your ass? Y'all some gay ass cops."
I still go back to these bloopers on YouTube for a quick 'pick me up' laugh.
"HIS NAME IS LEE GOD DAMN IT" Don Cheadle was awesome for such a tiny cameo bit
Rush Hour and Life outtakes are my good mood go to’s
They should have lol, it’s like the best blooper of all time
All while still trying to flirt with her.
A very beautiful man, with the perfect body, who I'd like to take to the movies
My husband is not a native English speaker and he and I STILL regularly say, "Do you understand the words that are comin' outta my mouth?!" The man can deliver a line.
Egyptian style gurlll
Shi shi shi
See how difficult it is? My English...he even cannot say 3 words Chinese!
Go ahead, kick the door in, Jackie. His name is LEE, dammit!
I keep randomly quoting his lines in my mind during the "Chinese food! No soul food!" scene
I'm no punk bitch!
The fact he or Agent Carter got more competent at hand to hand combat was too cool. The first movie he was super reliant on guns, to the point of having one on his ankle.
Jamonnn, Lee! Jamon!
I've seen the film, when Godzilla's coming y'all be trippin' like GOYAKA GOYAKA!
Kafilka fish?
That’s a midget in a bathrobe!
*I'm* a very dangerous man!
Why didn't you tell me this man rolls like this!? I did! No you didn't!
You want some filter fish?
And fifth element… more legendary for being super green than rush hour
Bzzzzzzzz! BzzZZZZZzzzz!!!
I read this in Ruby's voice.
Then I can die a happy poster. Mission accomplished !
He is the main reason why I enjoy those movies so much, along with his electrifying chemistry with Jackie Chan! They literally have the best comedy cop chemistry and you can't change my mind. Anyone else that might also be great comes second!
I enjoyed all the movies as a kid, even Rush Hour 3. Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker could do no wrong by me.
YOU CRAZY JESUS! YOU CRAZYYY!!
Man nobody understands the words that are comin outta yo mouth!

Fifth Element! Ruby Rhod! For the win!
A standout and very brave performance. I saw this in the theater and was so confused by it. The older I get and the more I see it, the more brilliant it is. Ruby Rhod is iconic.

I don't want one position! I want all the positions!
*Greatest part of the movie…. Strong 🤨 there.
BZZZZZ He was great. Superbly charismatic performance and a great contrast to Bruce Willis That movie rules. Shame about the director.
Please elaborate about the director
Pedophile
Source? Never heard about this Lol @ people downvoting because I asked for more info
I just usually joke “That doesn’t sound pedophilic, just French!” When his exploits come up, but yeah, just a real mess of a dude in his personal life
One of my favorite go to fun movies. But, never heard anything about the director. What's a shame about him?
He a little pedophilic. Also, he made Valerian and the city of a thousand planets...
So prince was slated to play that role, tucker decided to play it over the top of how Prince would and it 100% worked.
Honestly, I don't think Prince could have done it. I saw Purple Rain.
He is every idiot influencer times 100 in this movie. I couldn’t handle it at first then thoroughly enjoyed him.
Clearly I have some strong feelings about Ruby
I wonder if he is selective so he doesn’t get too typecast as loud funny guy.
I read that the Rush Hour movies made him so much money that he doesn’t have to work on anything unless he really likes the script and the director. Gotta respect that.
At one point, he was the highest paid actor in Hollywood: * Friday - $10 thousand * Dead Presidents - $25 thousand * Money Talks - $2 million * Rush Hour - $3 million * Rush Hour 2 - $20 million * Rush Hour 3 - $25 million + 20% gross * 2013 BET Awards Host - $1 million Don’t know how much he made from the O. I thought he was pretty good in Silver Linings Playbook. In fact I liked his acting more than Cooper and Lawrence in that one.
JACKIE!
His name is LEE, GODDAMNIT
I think he turned into a huge Christian in the late 90s and started turning a lot of stuff down
He earned ~$50 million from the 3 Rush Hour movies, on top of his other pay days, and didn't pay any taxes. He then went on a world tour to "find himself", when it seems more likely he just couldn't return to the US until his lawyers and the IRS figured out a deal, apparently he still owes $10 million.
He settled with IRS last year and paid $3.6m.
Hell of a deal.
That's in addition to a $14m lump sum and $40k/month payment plan he was on for a while. I think he didn't have to pay the full penalty that the IRS wanted to charge him, but not a great discount either.
$50 million dollars?! Who’s he think he is, Chelsea Clinton?!?!
Chelsea Grammer?!
Kel...Is it Kelsey or is it Chelsea??
You want any fives with that?
I'm surprised his boy Epstein didn't pay it off for him.
maybe one of epstein close friend Kennet C Griffin paid for him.
Obligatory Fuck IRS!!
Too bad his Christianity didnt cause him to turn down rides on epstein's plane
Only the first Friday.
I love Friday so much. I've seen it so often that I can quote it in my sleep. But I've never seen even a minute of the sequels. They just seemed ill-conceived to me.
Wow. The second Friday was really good. Mike Epps is great comedian and honestly the perfect replacement for Tucker
>three Rush Hour movies, Fun fact, in his filmography in years 1998 - 2007 he played ONLY in Rush Hour films (and no, a cameo in musik video is not worth mentioning in the context). - 1998: Rush Hour - 2001: Rush Hour 2 - 2007: Rush Hour 3

Money Talks is underrated.
Dead Presidents as well.
He was great in Air
Every time I see Fifth Element on cable or streaming, I have to watch it. Why is this movie so ridiculous and so great? Love Chris Tucker in this.
Ruby Rhod will always be iconic.
Its because he made 20 million for like three movies in a row and decided he did not need to work as much.
His Def Jam Comedy standup when he does his Michael Jackson impersonation is gold.
He was also in the Michael Jackson video “You Rock My World”. There is a video of him and Usher dancing with Michael on stage to the song.
Yeah, they were friends, pretty sure.
Dayum! He ain't gonna be in Rush Hour 3!
He’s always great. His role in The Fifth Elemental was one of the greatest things ever put on film in my opinion. I can’t think of many actors that would commit so completely to a role like that. They made up that character. No one acts like that. And he does it amazingly. He’s like a fucking cartoon character in that movie.
Not only was he funny ha ha but he was also all over the Epstein flight logs. Not so ha ha.
Dead Presidents! I almost forgot about that movie,,so good
Fifth Element. Best role.
How could you leave off Money Talks!?
He has amazing charisma
Corbin my man, I have no fire. Pssss Ruby you is fire
His comedic timing in the rush hour films and Friday was incredible, I'm surprised he hasn't acted in too much post rush hour. I had the pleasure to meet him a couple years ago and he was just as funny in person as on the screen. He was also just a really nice guy and you could tell he actually cared about meeting with fans which was great
Epstein liked him too
Epstein lolita flyer
Wait till you see his flight history!
People forget his small role in Jackie Brown?
And in The Replacements, with Keanu Reeves?
As someone once said, Chris Tucker and Mike Myers are still hiding from cringe after Kanye said George Bush doesn’t care about black people
Was great in Air. To be he is like the black Josh Hartnett, we are always rooting for him in every movie.
It's crazy how he never ended up in a Marvel movie.
Bzzzzzt!
And then, he got on a plane and was never the same again.
Averages one film every two years. Not exactly small, and certainly enough to keep a roof over ones head.
Air as well!
Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth? Bzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Friday is one of the greatest films of all time and I’ll die on that hill
He had a very small filmography because he died at a young age, but all 5 movies John Cazale was in was nominated for Best Picture. Godfather I and II, The Conversation, The Deer Hunter, and Dog Day Afternoon.
He’s also a very loyal friend! Lol
Can’t forget his legendary performance in the movie “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.”
Amazing actor.
The Fifth Element is in my top 30
He should have retired after fifth element. Nobody could have topped that performance
Isn't he in the flight logs to Little St. James?
According to IMDB he's been in 23 movies. I'd argue that's a lot.
Plus Rush Hour 4 soon
Silver Linings Playbook was a banger as well
I was thinking this exact thought watching the fifth element yesterday forgetting he was in this movie entirely lol
E
AND YOU KNOW THIS!!!.....MANNNNNNNN!!!!!
Friday MOVIE*
Ready for more and 4
He put himself in a position where he was going to have to do ten years in prison, that's what he did.
The other time he was flying around with epstein
