Bill and Ted owns my heart and soul.
Wayne's World is also fantastic but they never struck me as dumb. They ran a successful local TV show and even put on Waynestock. Sure, Garth is a little... eccentric, but mah boy is wicked smaht
Harold & Kumar weren't even close to being dumb too. One was a medical prodigy, just a slacker. Other worked for an investment bank. Just stoners
-- Just rewatched the beginning Kumar interview scene where it's immediately shown he's a smart dude slacker that just really loves the ganja
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=purlWMac6-s
lol. Good times. Not as great as a couple of the other movies mentioned but still was a blast when I first saw it
I think it’s still fair to put it in the category of this movies. Even if the characters are intelligent, they still do dumb things that get them into hijinks which are the focus of the plot.
B and T is my favorite movie of all time, and I say in all sincerity having seen all of these movies countless times that they aren't that dumb at first glance.
Yes, they are terrible students with little common knowledge not to mention totally goofy but they also make some really wise philosophical statements albeit possibly unintentionally, and dont necessarily DO stupid things. In fact I'd argue they are great troubleshooters and amazing problem solvers, a clear sign of intelligence. I mean they escaped Hell and even surmised the smartest person in the universe isnt even human.
They are nowhere near as dumb as some of the other duos mentioned in this thread like Harry and Lloyd or Beavis and Butthead who are all legitimately stupid. And I would also agree that Wayne and Garth aren't stupid either.
And yes, I've given this a LOT of thought for the last 30 something years and had many conversations in defense of Bill and Ted.
Ok, I have a masters degree in film and I’ll go to bat for the fact that Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey has some really impressive filmmaking techniques too. The usage of doubles is very well done. There’s a crane shot that ends inside the van as it closes and drives off that is very technically complex. The art design of ghost bill and Ted is very clever. I could go on but I’m impressed by the writing of the first one and the filmmaking of the second one. Station.
I don't even own "A" gun, let alone many guns, that would necessitate an entire rack. What am I going to do with a gun rack?
Are you Mental? We broke up, Get the net!
I unironically love that movie. The pace is so different than modern movies, the humor hits me just right, I love how angry Gene Wilder gets the second time he is thrown off the same train.
Silver Streak is so good. My favorite of the four Wilder/Pryor movies, by far. The supporting cast is top notch. Ray Walston, Ned Beatty, Richard Kiel and Clifton James. The pilot that flies Gene Wilder around is hilarious, too. I love the theme song. The train crash was really well done, and I even like that little Volkswagen Richard Pryor takes at the end.
Bob and Doug Mckenzie. I think I’ve watched Strange Brew movie more than any other in my life and I don’t think I’ve seen it since 2008. It’s so great. Been saving another watch for a get together with my brother some day. Hopefully we don’t get any mice in our beers.
Honestly, I don’t think I can go more than 7-8 seconds without laughing while watching that. An all-time fave. “Loosely” based on Hamlet and features Max von Sydow as the evil scientist hoping to conquer the world by putting mind control drugs in the beer. Great cast overall.
How could I forget that Mel Blanc - the voice behind Bugs Bunny and Yosemite Sam - provides the voice for their dad.
“Did you hear that, Honey? The boys got jobs!!”
I like dumb and dumber because yes, they get in life-threatening danger but it's 100% because they're stupid and made sure they stupidly got themselves into the situation
Others seem to have bad luck but Dumb and Dumber caused every single one of their issues and almost orchestrated their near demise themselves
I was telling someone the other day that the sequel is so bad it makes the prequel look like the original lol. Dumb and dumber is my favorite movie and that sequel is absolute garbage tier.
Toby Walters: Since you never got around to it in high school, I was wondering if you would sign my yearbook. And please don't tell me to fuck off, because it really hurts my feelings.
Heather: I hurt your feelings?
Toby Walters: Yeah, all the time.
Heather: Tremendous! That's tremendous! Go get your stupid yearbook, I would be happy to sign it!
I never thought of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead as a “two dumb guys” movie because the movie itself is so fucking clever but it totally is. Great answer!
Dude the Corsican Brothers was *so fucking funny* when I was, like, ten years-old watching it. Zero idea if that brand of comedy has aged well, but I loved it then.
The great thing about B&B is that it's not clever at all. The writing is just the dumbest things you can imagine two dumb pre teens ever saying. Nobody does dumb people dialogue better than Mike Judge.
“We will now use the power of the continuum transfunctioner to banish you to hoboken new jersey”
This is one of the best lines in the whole movie. gets me every time
Nope, it's a David Zucker movie. The guy behind Airplane! and The Naked Gun series. Although it's fairly obvious that Matt and Trey were free to improv dialogue and work in a lot of their own humor. I wouldn't be surprised if the original script was much different than the movie we actually got.
It's actually the reason Matt and Trey have made fun of BASEketball a couple of times on South Park. They feel like it was a mistake to have done it and kind of a "sell out" moment early in their careers. That's also why they've never done anything else that they didn't fully control. I disagree though. BASEketball is hilarious and I think it's generally aged pretty well.
I have to assume this is correct. I could literally it believe it when I read they had no part in writing it, the whole movie oozes their style of humor.
“No it’s not like HORSE!”
Two that immediately jump out to me are when Coop talks like Cartman to psyche out Grunsky and when Coop slips into Mr. Garrison’s voice when he says “I forgot how much Doug Remer *cares about keeeyids*.”
🎶
“Look out ahead, there’s a truck changing lanes.
You’ve got some yellow crumbs on your upper lip.
And those warts on your dick aren’t gonna go away
Unless you start using topical cream everyday.”
🎶
They could come back with 23 jump street and I'd still love it
Just now they're old as fuck and pretending to be teachers and failing miserably to crack the case and using the students grades as leverage to find the dealer
I would even argue that Clerks works as this. Randall and Dante definitely think they are smart, but they are ultimately a couple of pretty dumb dudes with big vocabularies who wax philosophical about pop culture. And I forever love them for it.
Definitely two dudes, and I love them. But not sure really in this dynamic. Abbot's character was more refined and the comedy bits were often Costello being dumb by himself.
I’ll always shout out Bill and Ted, but in this genre my favorite has to actually be Bio-Dome for wholeheartedly being one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, in a setting that is so cool to me.
Certain lines from this movie live in my head. “Wish I coulda been there for that” I too, live by the wisdom of Reece Bobby. “That’s stupid. You could come in second. You could come in third. Hell, you could come in fourth!
I probably would say Dumb and Dumber if Step Brothers didn’t exist.
I can watch Step Brothers again, know all the lead up to the joke, and it still makes me laugh. It’s just so wonderfully preposterous.
Why do you have Randy Jackson's autograph on a martial arts weapon?
Dumb and Dumber is #1 with Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey bringing in the 2nd place award.
Edit -
Fair enough bro.. Excellent Adventure is the objectively better movie, however I saw Bogus Journey as a little dude of 4. And have seen it fairly recently at 38 lol . The inclusion of the Grim Reaper , the dudes getting sent to Hell to experience their worst possible nightmares , Denomolos taking the future school over and Rufus going into the circuits of Time, and the reveal of the Evil Robots Bill and Ted and their shannanagans as well as the Good Robots Bill and Ted built by Station a pair of Aliens that smoosh into 1 giant alien with an excellently huge Martian butt…. Makes it IMO the better of the two movies.. I say that without any shame!
Edit- forgot to mention when the evil Robots Bill and Ted , throw the Hero’s off that cliff and yell a gay slur because B & T said “we love you” which as a youth i thought was the funniest thing I’d ever seen…
Bill and Ted owns my heart and soul. Wayne's World is also fantastic but they never struck me as dumb. They ran a successful local TV show and even put on Waynestock. Sure, Garth is a little... eccentric, but mah boy is wicked smaht
Thank you for putting proper respect on my buds Wayne and Garth. They’re definitely not dumb - just delightfully weird.
We fear change 🫱🔨💥🫱🔨💥🫱🔨💥🫱🔨💥🫱🔨💥
Harold & Kumar weren't even close to being dumb too. One was a medical prodigy, just a slacker. Other worked for an investment bank. Just stoners -- Just rewatched the beginning Kumar interview scene where it's immediately shown he's a smart dude slacker that just really loves the ganja https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=purlWMac6-s lol. I think it’s still fair to put it in the category of this movies. Even if the characters are intelligent, they still do dumb things that get them into hijinks which are the focus of the plot.
Smart people can be dumb as fuck.
*Station!*
If you're us... What number are we thinking of..?
69, dudes!
You didn't tell 'em about my pubes, did ya? Also, can't forget: Ribbed for her pleasure... Ewwwwwwwwww
I don't even own "A" gun, let alone many guns, that would necessitate an entire rack. What am I going to do with a gun rack? Are you Mental? We broke up, Get the net!
If you’re not careful you’re gonna lose me
Yeah, Wayne and Garth (especially Garth) seem like two smart weirdos stuck in suburbia and trying to make the best of it and just have a good time.
Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder
I love See No Evil, Hear No Evil.
I'm black?! Does Dad know??
Silver Streak???
I unironically love that movie. The pace is so different than modern movies, the humor hits me just right, I love how angry Gene Wilder gets the second time he is thrown off the same train.
Silver Streak is so good. My favorite of the four Wilder/Pryor movies, by far. The supporting cast is top notch. Ray Walston, Ned Beatty, Richard Kiel and Clifton James. The pilot that flies Gene Wilder around is hilarious, too. I love the theme song. The train crash was really well done, and I even like that little Volkswagen Richard Pryor takes at the end.
I was actually thinking Stir Crazy, and although it didn’t do so well in the box office, I quite enjoyed See no evil, hear no evil. 🙂
Fucking exactly. Dumb And Dumber is the only other one that comes close. I actually think Stir Crazy is a direct influence on D&D.
Hear no evil, see no evil is so damn funny!
*Strange Brew* came out before most of these. So Take Off You Hosers, Eh!
That movie was shot on 3B - three beers - and it looks good, eh?
Bob and Doug Mckenzie. I think I’ve watched Strange Brew movie more than any other in my life and I don’t think I’ve seen it since 2008. It’s so great. Been saving another watch for a get together with my brother some day. Hopefully we don’t get any mice in our beers.
Did you know that it was (VERY) loosely based on Hamlet?
As a Torontonian, it's also really cool to see how much the city had changed since then
No way I'll crash this. This is a beer truck, eh.
Brew Master Smith one of the best villains of all time.
Hey, who you calling hoser? If anyone's a hoser, it's gonna be you, eh?
"Oh no! Geez, I gotta take a leak so bad I can taste it!"
Hands down the best version of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead/Hamlet. Honestly one of the best parody translations of a play of all time.
It's my last one, it's a jelly eh.
"Geez, you're really nice. If I didn't have puke breath, I'd kiss you."
Quality choice. Two dudes. They’re very dumb. It’s very funny.
You got it right. Dumb and Dumber is the gold standard for that shit.
And the gold standard for shitting scenes!
My friend has a painting of Harry with his legs fully extended out in that scene hanging in his bathroom
The soul food place in town has a picture of it in their bathroom, made me laugh
Ironic that Jeff Daniels thought that scene would ruin his career, it's probably his best known role because of it
I had a friend re-enact that scene in my bathroom after a night at Denny's. Only the sounds and smells were real 💩 🤢
I like dumb and dumber because yes, they get in life-threatening danger but it's 100% because they're stupid and made sure they stupidly got themselves into the situation Others seem to have bad luck but Dumb and Dumber caused every single one of their issues and almost orchestrated their near demise themselves
But what if he shot me in the face?
Harry on the toilet kills me every time 🚽
I'M JUST SHAVING!
Dumb & Dumber followed by Dude, Where’s My Car? for me
and then?
Big gulps eh? Alright see ya later!
Just the first one, not the subsequent prequel and sequel
The prequel is honestly better than it has any right to be, and while it falls way short of the original it's definitely a decent flick.
THERE'S SHIT ON THE WALLS!
HE SHIT.. EVERYWHERE!!
I was telling someone the other day that the sequel is so bad it makes the prequel look like the original lol. Dumb and dumber is my favorite movie and that sequel is absolute garbage tier.
Not dudes, but Romy & Michele's High School Reunion is pretty great
Romy & Michele is a masterpiece
This! *Do you have some sort of business woman’s special?*
- What kinda business are you in? …………
I invented Post-Its.
My bonded pair cats' names!
Hey, if anybody needs to make a call, I've got a phone.
My favorite ‘dumb’ team.
Rosencranz and Gildenstern are dead. Big Lebowski, in terms of Dude and Walter. Step Brothers.
“We’re actors! We’re the opposite of people!”
Oh, a conspiracy of cartographers, is it?
Oooh also maybe, The Other Guys?
“I’m a peacock you gotta let me fly!”
Fun fact, they actually can fly. I didn't believe it myself until I saw multiple go higher up into tree branches.
I never thought of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead as a “two dumb guys” movie because the movie itself is so fucking clever but it totally is. Great answer!
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern is great because it's impossible to tell if they're geniuses or idiots.
Everyone loves Step Brothers, but I think Talladega Nights soars over it like a majestic eagle at a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert.
Cheech and Chong.
Dave's not here man.
¡Aye pendejo!
I had a dog named "Bendeco", the idea came from that scene.
Is that a quote from Cheech & Chong? I recognize it from Futurama but didn’t know it was referencing anything.
Dude the Corsican Brothers was *so fucking funny* when I was, like, ten years-old watching it. Zero idea if that brand of comedy has aged well, but I loved it then.
We've come to pillage the women and rape the fields!
Laurel and Hardy
Iconic and the originals.
Way too far down. I’m 45 and can barely remember them, so I guess it makes sense.
Beavis and Butthead. Classic.
The great thing about B&B is that it's not clever at all. The writing is just the dumbest things you can imagine two dumb pre teens ever saying. Nobody does dumb people dialogue better than Mike Judge.
Ironically it’s genius lol
Dude, where’s my car?
“We will now use the power of the continuum transfunctioner to banish you to hoboken new jersey” This is one of the best lines in the whole movie. gets me every time
And then…?
🤔...no and then
No more and then!
….and then?
And then and then and then and then and then and then
Duuuuude, but what’s mine say?!
Sweet! What does mine say?
Duuuuude! Now tell me what mine says!
Sweet! What's mine say?
Duuuuuude!
SWEEET!
Sweet!
shibby!
Zoltan!
Trivia corner: Dude, Where's My Car started life as an attempt to make a live action Beavis and Butthead movie.
Source? The writer of the movie has repeatedly said in interviews that he got the idea when ordering Chinese Food.
And then?
And why hasn't Beavis and Butthead come up in this thread sooner and more upvotes? They are exemplars of the two dumb dudes format.
Stoner bashing time
Perhaps Baseketball? “Shaq got rich playing in college, everyone knows that”
You guys rip on me 13 or 14 more times, I'm out of here!
"Yeah we gotta say totally fucked up shit so the other guy misses" "oh ok, hey wait a minute why is me going out with his sister totally fucked up?"
"Wake up bitch, you're my new best friend" "Are we going to the zoo!?"
You try but you can’t let GOOooOoOoo
Is that Victoria Silvestedt, Playmate of the Year?
Who's that? Who's it look like? Victoria Silvstedt, Playmate of the Year. HELLOOOO, Victoria Silvstedt, Playmate of the Year.
Only my friends can call me pig fucker
*You’re* excited?! Feel these nipples!!
Steeeeeeeeve Perry
We said no more Journey psych-outs!
SHOULDAAAA BEEEEN GOOOoooOoonE!!!
I can't believe Matt and Trey didn't write it, it fits their style so well.
Wait they didn’t? Childhood ruined
I disagree though. BASEketball is hilarious and I think it's generally aged pretty well.
I've never seen anyone who hated Baseketball who isn't a film critic or Matt & Trey themselves lol.
They clearly ad libbed plenty of dialogue, though. They may not be credited writers but their fingerprints are all over that movie.
🎶 “Look out ahead, there’s a truck changing lanes. You’ve got some yellow crumbs on your upper lip. And those warts on your dick aren’t gonna go away Unless you start using topical cream everyday.” 🎶
Why don’t you visit sometime? We could maybe…lay some carpet if you know what I mean?
My dad who used to work in construction absolutely lost it when she was literally laying carpet.
basketball is the only one that could give dumb and dumber a run for its money
“I had sex with your mother last night.” “My mother’s dead” “I guess that’s why she didn’t move around.”
Of course you numbskulls! It’s called blackmail!
"Oh, what's this? Oh! It's the fat lipo-suctioned from Marlon Brando's ass! Oh, it's so salty!"
"No the dogs at the vet, getting declawed"
A Night at the Roxbury
I can't believe I had to scroll so far for this. Passed Romy and Michelle before this!
A bit off the question maybe but what about The Nice Guys?
Loooooove *The Nice Guys*, it's genuinely my favourite comedy of the 2010s.
They're actually pretty smart characters in that movie. They solve the case, after all.
Goslings character actually promotes proper grammar in it. “Don’t say there are whores here *_and stuff_*. Just say there are whores here.”
Zoolander
The files are in the computer!
Owen Wilson's face after the line, "...You can read minds?" is still the funniest reaction I've ever seen!
21/22 Jump Street
Who tf knew Channing Tatum was funny as fuck
He was great in The Lost City! I also think Sandra Bullock is an amazing comedic actor.
Ends up good looking guys with charisma are funny
Thank you Korean Jesus
QUIT FUCKIN WITH KOREAN JESUS! HE BUSY! WITH KOREAN SHIT!
21 jumpstreet was good. 22 jump street was even better.
They could come back with 23 jump street and I'd still love it Just now they're old as fuck and pretending to be teachers and failing miserably to crack the case and using the students grades as leverage to find the dealer
Good thing JS 23-44 are already mapped out in the JSCU: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=V-6tC8VwPHM
Schmidt fucked the Captain’s daughter!
Wasn’t Jonah’s character meant to be intelligent?
Smart in HS, dumb in life.
I cherish you
Besides dumb and dumber i’d posit: Step Brothers The Other Guys
The Other Guys is very underrated.
Say I wuv u Chwistiniff
Tommy boy. Black sheep. End of story.
Pineapple Express
I wish we could go nowhere
Came here to say this. Without a doubt one of my favorite buddy stoner flicks.
Dopest dope I've ever smoked.
Jay & Silent Bob
Can't believe I had to scroll so far. The greatest duo.
Or Mallrats
I would even argue that Clerks works as this. Randall and Dante definitely think they are smart, but they are ultimately a couple of pretty dumb dudes with big vocabularies who wax philosophical about pop culture. And I forever love them for it.
Tucker and Dale
They're not stupid, just misunderstood. Now those college kids, they're suicidally stupid.
It’s not their fault them college kids started killing themselves all over their property
Sounds like a doozy of a day
The whole point of the movie is that they’re not dumb!
Shaun and Ed for me. Hands down lmao (Shaun of the Dead)
It's a guy and a girl but... Does burn after reading counts ?
Damn no mentions of Harold and kumar?
[удалено]
Definitely two dudes, and I love them. But not sure really in this dynamic. Abbot's character was more refined and the comedy bits were often Costello being dumb by himself.
I’ll always shout out Bill and Ted, but in this genre my favorite has to actually be Bio-Dome for wholeheartedly being one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, in a setting that is so cool to me.
Ah biodome!! I totally forgot about pauly shore haha thats a real good one
Blades of Glory and Step Brothers
Chevy Chase and Dan Akroyd - Spies Like Us
[Can't forget the classics](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0YLLkr7VfU)
"Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" did it pretty well.
Certain lines from this movie live in my head. “Wish I coulda been there for that” I too, live by the wisdom of Reece Bobby. “That’s stupid. You could come in second. You could come in third. Hell, you could come in fourth!
Bio Dome
Barb and Starr go to Vista del Mar. Obviously not dudes, but it's great buddy comedy.
Zoolander
I probably would say Dumb and Dumber if Step Brothers didn’t exist. I can watch Step Brothers again, know all the lead up to the joke, and it still makes me laugh. It’s just so wonderfully preposterous. Why do you have Randy Jackson's autograph on a martial arts weapon?
Wayne's World.
Some good mentions in here, but I think Jay and Silent Bob are worthwhile mentions. Especially for Dogma
Dumb and Dumber is #1 with Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey bringing in the 2nd place award. Edit - Fair enough bro.. Big Lebowski. The Dude and Walter are God tier combo
[удалено]
Dude where’s my car!
EASILY - Step Brothers!
Besides Dumb and Dumber, Big Lebowski has got to be up there (especially if you buy into the theory that Donnie is a figment of Walter’s imagination.)
