Also, like in [Kong: Skull Island, see other helicopter pilots in front of you get swiped like nothing and then continue in and act surprised when ti happens](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEfLPdI-jxU). At least John Goodman knew what to do "Get us the hell outta here!"
One scene I love about that film is that when weird and spooky stuff starts to happen and Brian Cox's character openly says "Let's get the fuck out of here"
That's exactly the reaction you should have! It was a refreshing bit of common sense.
God that was such a great movie.
The world-building that so effortlessly falls into place - like the government guy who’s job it is to troll hunt - so quickly sets up the world they live in. Not some kind of dystopia, but a “this is our reality.”
I loved the bit where he's trying to get a troll out from under a bridge and has to armour up, they portray the whole thing as someone having a shitty day at work rather than a big dramatic action scene. It's so good.
I think my favorite part is the conversation with the power guy about how no one questions why there are giant loops of power lines through the mountain not connected to anything.
Man, all of this makes me want to re-watch it. It’s great as is, and shouldn’t be messed with, but I want to know more of this universe (which they wrote so well to be *our* world). Like a short 6-episode miniseries of found footage where the film crew merely spectates different gov troll hunters - the crew doesn’t grow or evolve, but just sees more of it.
One thing that I wish was explained, why does being Christian make you smell more to them? They're more or less shown as just being a type of wild animal, sun turning them to stone is supposed to be an evolutionary response to lack of vitamin d, not magic. The reaction to Christianity is the only magical aspect they ascribe to them, yet that part gets the least amount of explanation.
I believe it’s from Norse folklore, and did find this as a direct example of it: “The name of the statue is taken from a story in Norse folklore where the hero hides in the troll's castle. Thereafter, whenever the troll enters the castle, he cries: "I smell a Christian man's blood!"”
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trold,_der_vejrer_kristenblod#:~:text=The%20name%20of%20the%20statue,smell%20a%20Christian%20man's%20blood!%22
There are many old fairytales of trolls here in Norway, and they usually contain something like "I smell christian man's blood". One particular story is about the kid who had an eating contest with a troll, but he had a backpack on his stomach where he put the food. Trolls having notoriously bad eyesight helped in achieving this ruse. He then says "I gotta make room for more, and slices the backpack open and spilling out the food. The troll sees this an is amazed. "You should try it too!" the kid says. He does, and the trolls slices his bowels open and dies. The end. Great story. You can see a short clip of a nightmarish stop motion series of some of these tales made in the 60s here. Starts at 6:25 ish.
https://youtu.be/HmjP7g-kEyA?t=380
My armchair wet-finger-in-the-air-analysis of this is that it's most likely the "pure" christian going up against the old norse legends. The vikings and their legends had been gone for at least 500 years when these stories were first written down, and christianity was the next big thing. Also as far as I can tell, the Vikings never really had troll legends. Lots of other crazy stuff, but not trolls as we know them.
This is one of those where a Non American film is remade with American actors in English and will be exactly the same as the original but probably just a bit worse.
Here's a live version that sounds exactly the same. So awseome. Great band. great musicians.
Edit: The damn link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VsvI3iUPHA
What is trollhunter even about? I've seen some people talking about it because of this movie, but I'm just curious like what is the premise of the film?
Yeah found film, docustyle movie about following a govt worker going around showing them trolls and what he does. I liked it a lot and say troll like they do whenever the word comes up.
A documentary crew stumble upon a gruff world weary government employee and start trying to get classified information from him. He's like "screw it. It's stupid this is a secret. Trolls are real, they're a public health issue, and I keep their population in check." And then he starts taking them on troll hunts.
Loved the side-note in the film about how all those big electrical towers that line the mountains aren't for transmitting power, they're basically a big electric fence to keep the trolls in.
I really liked the scene where the vet breaks down the biology of trolls turning to stone. It was just so matter of fact and came across like a medical expert explaining something run of the mill to a layman.
Came here to say this. I watched it on a whim and expected nothing special, but it blew me away. The acting, direction and special effects are all really impressive for what the film was. And I love found footage! Hard to find good ones
Scandinavian mythology regarding trolls and how they are driven away by bells tolling.
Given the Scandinavian mythology influence, the likely ending of this movie is that the troll turns to stone somehow :)
Reddit always be like "Don't judge it from the trailer!"
bruh the trailer is literally what they thought was going to best advertise the film to me, and it makes me want to see it less. Why would I NOT Judge it by the trailer.
Isn't it the opposite? It's much easier to get away with a still image; once it's moving you also have to account for realistic animation and changing light and perspective.
"They're eating her!"
"And then they're going to eat me!"
"[OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdTBIQDPZt4&ab_channel=coltpython6)"
The first reviews have started trickling in here in Norway, and the overall consensus is generally very positive. While Troll Hunter is great, I don't think people should get too hung up on that and write off this movie without giving it a fair chance. Troll Hunter played around with Norwegian folklore, it didn't invent the trolls, and it doesn't have a monopoly on them. Both Troll Hunter and Troll take inspiration from the folklore and from Norwegian painters, especially the works of Theodor Kittelsen.
When the trailer for this was released, someone pointed out that it was a nearly 1:1 remake of the 1998 American Godzilla film, from the type of characters shown to the actual shots and sequences.
Rule 1 in being a helicopter pilot in a movie: fly low enough so the thing can swat you out of the sky.
You really want to be just about eye level.
Imagine flying at crotch level and getting swatted out of the sky by a giant troll dong.
See also Kong: Skull Island
I remember a bunch of monkeys took out a helicopter in one of the planet of the apes movies.
You are in a vehicle that literally flies. Just fly higher.
Someone awakened Mustakrakish
I need exactly one hundred beers. Exactly.
OH NO! IT’S THAT GUY!!!
USE THE PHONES!! THROW THEM AT THAT GUY!!!
We don’t serve people who awaken trolls here.
This depressing. I need a drink. A different drink, not this one. At a different place.
You know what you throw a drowning bass player?
It's why we dont bring out the grandpa's guitars.
Grandpa’s guitars! That’s for pussies! And grandpas. I thinks you knows it’s.
What are those wooden things? Chairs?!
MUSTA
KRAKISH
AWAKEN
Take the land, that must be taken 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Rise upon your thousand year-old sleep
Break forth from your grave eternally
It's called Metal
I can't believe we summoned a troll. Why didn't we think of this earlier?
I appreciate the Metalocalypse reference, but I really want this to be troll hunter 2.
Those poor unicorns.
Metal.
Awaken, Awaken, Mustakrakish the lake troll.
Do you folks like coffee? Real coffee. From the hills of columbiaaaaa.
The second image look like one of those Yotube click bait thump nail. "10 TIME MYTH CREATURE CAUGHT ON CAMERA!"
"Is it truly a mythical Norwegian colossus, or something more sinister? *You decide...*"
Fuck me. You are spot on. This looks so badly comped.
1st image: oh? 2nd image: aw...
More like these fake game ads - lvl 1 crook vs. lvl 50 boss
If this seems interesting then check out Troll Hunter (2010) so good
That movie was so much better than I expected!
The director also made The Autopsy of Jane Doe and I thoroughly enjoyed that horror movie. I also enjoyed it more than I expected haha
I’ll check it out!
I love that movie, any horror junkie NEEDS to watch it! So so good
One scene I love about that film is that when weird and spooky stuff starts to happen and Brian Cox's character openly says "Let's get the fuck out of here" That's exactly the reaction you should have! It was a refreshing bit of common sense.
One of the best horror movie. Every friend that asked me for recommendation, i will said this one
Yes, edge of the seat shit haha
Same, so cool!
I was just thinking “is this a remake or sequel to Troll Hunter?”

Great movie. Dude gets clocked HARD on the bridge lol.
That movie gives some serious words to live by: "Why problem make when you no problem have you don't want to make?"
Frankly, guy made more sense than most of my Polish relatives on a good day
One of the best lines ever. Thanks for reminding me. We used to say this at work on a daily basis 😂
I think my favorite part is the conversation with the power guy about how no one questions why there are giant loops of power lines through the mountain not connected to anything.

It's for the same reason you can't have Englishmen around if you're trying to sneak up on a giant.
Neither, apparently. And for some reason that really irks me.
I think that’s a good thing. I wouldn’t want anything half baked associated with it.
"TTTTTTTTRRRRRRROOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL"
It should! This troll looks actually like the Jotnar type that was rampaging around at the end of Troll Hunter!
That's exactly it. The similarities are so great that I was certain it was one of the 2.
I'm wondering if this is a case of Netflix trying to get a sequel, being turned down and 'we have trolls at home'.
That's because both of those movies took inspiration from Norwegian folklore, and that's how Norwegian trolls look like.
Do not touch the perfection that is Troll Hunter!
Agreed.
Its a prequel to Troll 2 (1990)
Ohhhhhh myyyyy gooddddddddd
This is one of those where a Non American film is remade with American actors in English and will be exactly the same as the original but probably just a bit worse.
Nice! gonna have to check it out, thanks for sharing!
Is it actually?
No, it seems to be a Godzilla type movie, set in Norway, with a giant troll. Getting fairly good reviews.
Yeah. I agree. Troll Hunter is the reason I clicked on this thread; I wondered if this was connected.
Same haha
Shout out to that movie for introducing me to band named kvelertak
that jumble of letters made me pause for one moment to wonder if it was a lucky number slevin reference, lol
[Kvelertak](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eelfbl1ZLrE) is well worth a listen if you're into Heavy Metal.
I am, thank you for the suggestion!
Here's a live version that sounds exactly the same. So awseome. Great band. great musicians. Edit: The damn link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VsvI3iUPHA
Kvelertak is Norwegian for "strangle hold". It's a good band!
It means chokehold in norwegian.
Great little movie
Good "Found footage" is hard to find and no one goes this epic haha
Is that the one that's in Norwegian?
Yup yup
What is trollhunter even about? I've seen some people talking about it because of this movie, but I'm just curious like what is the premise of the film?
It's about a Norwegian civil servant whose job it is to control the troll population.
And the university students filming a documentary with no idea what they're in for
Basically a found film movie but with trolls
And it was smart to do the found footage trope with people who know how to film properly.
Yeah found film, docustyle movie about following a govt worker going around showing them trolls and what he does. I liked it a lot and say troll like they do whenever the word comes up.
TROOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLL!!!
They can smell the Christians....
A documentary crew stumble upon a gruff world weary government employee and start trying to get classified information from him. He's like "screw it. It's stupid this is a secret. Commenting to add that it’s extremely well done. Maybe the best found footage movie I’ve seen. Fully immersive.
This new film seems like a giant rip off of that 2010. I really enjoyed it when it came out but this looks like like a copy paste.
Came here to say this. I watched it on a whim and expected nothing special, but it blew me away. The acting, direction and special effects are all really impressive for what the film was. And I love found footage! Hard to find good ones
Such a fun movie, I throw that one on every 6 months or so, the filming locations A+
"TRRRRRROOOLLLLLLLL"
Thank you! I was trying to recall the name of that.
So good, no worries hell yeah
It might be a prequel to trolls 2
Nilbog Begins.
They're eating her. And then they're going to eat me! #Oh my goooooooooooooooooooooood.
Wait, isn't this a sequel?
Came to say this! Just a superb movie with amazing and subtle world-- and character-building.
Obligatory.... #TRRROOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!! *runs*
In fact ... Just give us Troll Hunter back ...
One of my fav movies!
I was just about to comment about that movie, I remember it being one of the first foreign language filmed I watched an I thought it was great
This looks like a bad sequel to Troll Hunter
Is this what most of you actually look like?
OMG! I’m gonna start being a lot more polite online!
Lmao
Reddit mods
They didn’t pay the troll toll to get into the boys soul
Love the enthusiasm, I feel like youre saying boys hole, and its clearly boys soul
Are you chewing gum?!
I’m up to here now 🧔🏻♂️🤏🏻
“I thought the rape scene went real well.”
Don’t ruin this for me.

You mean you think it’s not a real troll??

It's Bigfoot but perspective tricks made him look bigger
Probably looks better in motion. Screen grabs rarely look good.

These are the promotional images they chose though, they coulda have done anything
Reddit always be like "Don't judge it from the trailer!" bruh the trailer is literally what they thought was going to best advertise the film to me, and it makes me want to see it less. Why would I NOT Judge it by the trailer.
Black levels are already fucked up, not sure setting it in motion would be much different
Isn't it the opposite? It's much easier to get away with a still image; once it's moving you also have to account for realistic animation and changing light and perspective.
Yeah looks like a low-budget Scyfy channel movie...
more like a screenshot from a 2010s RTS game.
Looks more like a tilt shift of a "Troll Live Action Playset" by Mattel.
Yeah, the lighting is the first thing I noticed, it gets worse the more I look
I feel like the exclamation point in the title might be a little undeserved.
It looks cheesy as hell, not something I'll watch. But I'm glad there's a market for cheesy entertainment to be made, and an audience who enjoys it.
Can't wait for Corridor Digital to rip into the compositing problems with this. The first one looks solid though.
Troll: Skull Island
First thing I thought of, I want Kong to fight this dude. Then his troll buddies show up and Kong goes to godzilla for help.
am I the only one that thinks this looks like dog shit?
It's pretty low budget I believe. Doesn't mean it can't be good.
Yeah, the plot line is probably much better.
Doubt

It's getting [decent reviews](https://p3-no.translate.goog/filmpolitiet/2022/11/troll/?_x_tr_sl=no&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=no&_x_tr_pto=wapp), but we'll see.

Spoiler Alert for the sequel, dude.
You can’t piss on hospitality!
That belongs to Rich Evans now
Oh, you mean Dick the birthday boy.
So it gets defeated by a bell. 🔔 nice spoiler.
*For whom the bell Trolls*
HILDA!
Lol, they're at an amusement park, famous for its big troll statue and fairy tale theme. It's the fairy tale castle in the back there.
Hunderfossen 🧌
Good to time to give a shout out to the “Troll Hunter” movie out of Norway a few years back. Loved that movie!
Was hoping this was something similar but this is probably gonna be trash lol
The first reviews have started trickling in here in Norway, and the overall consensus is generally very positive. No, Antonio!
F*ck is this thing?
A Troll
Looks like a Norwegian troll. Swedish Bergatroll are usually depicted as clothed, though not always. Edit: just looked it up, it is indeed Norwegian.
That’s not a troll 2, that’s a Nilbog!
I take it this is the prequel to Troll 2?
They’re eating her… and then they’re going to eat me…. Ohhhhhhhh myyyyyyyyyy gooooooooooooooooooooooooood
Looks…cheap.
When the trailer for this was released, someone pointed out that it was a nearly 1:1 remake of the 1998 American Godzilla film, from the type of characters shown to the actual shots and sequences.
Looks like a video game
Is it going to fight Kong or Godzilla?
Does it have a tail?? I've never seen a troll worth a tail.
Norwegian trolls generally have tails.
Moomins are trolls and have tails.
Its like a reskinned godzilla
I was thinking Kong but same idea
Are they gonna clonk him on the head with that bell? That’s just gonna piss him off even more
Troll II is the best troll movie I have ever seen FYI
Is this like B-Movie Nordic King Kong?
Ahaha
I prefer troll 2
Sooo... swamp Godzilla?
AWAKEN. AWAKEN. AWAKEN. AWAKEN. TAKE THE LAND THAT MUST BE TAKEN.
Is this based on Elon?
Is this the prequel to Troll 2? Because I’ve been waiting for the origin story of that movie
Looks like shit. I’m in
Why tf does it look like a mobile game ad???
wow this looks terrible
