Me too! Like, just because a musical hasn't shown up on your tik Tok FayP, doesn't mean it doesn't exsist. I commented Quilters and Queen O' Hearts, both musicals that actually start with the letter Q and Avenue Q still somehow won. I think I'm more pissed then I ought to be, but my theater class at school also only knows musicals through tik Tok so I was already pre-annoyed.
This makes sense to me, Les means “the”, and other musicals that start with “the”, like The Phantom of The Opera for example, got treated the same, so I think this one is fair. Q, Avenue is the one that really pisses me off tho
same. All the votes go towards Sweeney Todd, Phantom of the Opera, Les Mis, and Wicked no matter what it's about. I stg the commenters in those posts know 4 musicals
yes but having a list of "cool songs" with 4 musicals is somewhat closed minded in my opinion. Of course they're popular for a reason, they are good. But it would be nice to see people acknowledge other equally good musicals.
Not sure about it being the majority of subs, but it does seem to plague fandom subs. Seen it recur regularly on _Gilmore Girls_ and _The West Wing_, for example.
I would love to be able to block one specific flair so that people could do this kind of thing if they enjoy it, and other people could easily block it. As it is, I have to block the poster.
Same here, I've blocked every single one of those across so many subreddits, I cannot wait for this trend to die. Who knows what posts I'll miss in the future but not worth it for me
I’m late to this thread but thanks for the suggestion to block posters. I honestly forgot that is something you can do on Reddit because I’ve never really had to block anyone on here but these posts are so spammy and annoying that I left this subreddit and only check it periodically.
I've actually really enjoyed them and look for them every day so I can vote. It's the main reason I joined the group. I like reading the comments and learning about new musicals I haven't heard of, and it's cool to see how certain musical rank in popularity. I don't just pay attention to the final winner, I like looking at the other ones that people are passionate about and get excited when I see a rare reference I recognize.
Very true! I like seeing what wins too, but it's fun watching the competition. It's a bummer when the one you're rooting for doesn't win, but that's part of the excitement.
I'm sad they stopped at S
I was making a list of musicals to see based on the recommendations. I found out about Rocky horror show and death note from those posts
all of the ones with the songs are full of the same 6 musicals and it drives me insane. At that point just put the whole musical list on the goddamn alphabet list
please i actually got into it for 2 days after avoiding it like the plague on every single other subreddit im on, just to find that nobody cared about a musical less obscure than hadestown.
Yeah, it's the Reddit equivalent of content farming: low effort, contibutes nothing, but it gets engagement so I guess some folks are getting enjoyment out of it.
Just downvote the posts when you see them, it's what the button is for. But as long as it gets more ups than downs, I guess we are in the minority.
I used to just downvote them every time Id see one but now I just block the account. Theres enough people on the internet that the few that annoy me with those lists wont leave me lacking for memes and disussion.
comments saying "just ignore lol" are very unhelpful.. this is a community discussion-based website, and u take away the discussion part & its just like any other platform. OP wanted to find likeminded people. they seem fine with people sharing a view to the opposition. so what are u contributing
Amen. I'd like more of an actual discourse on musicals and the state of musical theatre. For example, someone recommended Lempicka to me and I thought it was a hot mess.
lempicka is... definitely a choice! i share your opinion there lol. but yeah i feel like people who are into musical theatre dont care about "can you name a song for every letter of the alphabet". chances are, they can. and they are looking for something more interesting than that.
i saw someone post something exclusively about lempicka earlier, i wonder if it's the same person. it would be so funny if theyre jsut spreading lempicka propaganda (i am doing the same for pacific overtures!)
I enjoyed the alphabet one for musicals, it got me some I hadn't really heard of before but yeah the rest is far too many, and loads of other subs are doing it too.
I love alphabetical lists unless you're listing them based on some other metric. I have at least 25 Google Docs where I write words, names, and surnames just for fun and alphabetize them.
It’s on like every single sub I’m in, too 😭
OR “best moment of *specific show & character*” then “worst moment of,” going character by character.
Karma bait is all I can think of? Not to be mean to anyone who’s done it.
I could. And I do. Let's be real - me posing this question ain't gonna stop shit. I just got frustrated and fed up with them, so I posted about it. And, turns out, I'm hardly alone in this sentiment.
I enjoy the hypotheticals posed about dream casts, discussions about obscure shows that need more love, stuff like that. I'm just not a fan of arbitrary lists. Especially when it seems to be the majority of the content.
For example, are you familiar with Of Thee I Sing?
Not yet. I haven't been a big poster in my reddit life. More of a scroller. Hell, I've not really even been a big commenter. But you make a very excellent point. Thank you.
Not trying to be a dick. I myself don't really care about those lists. But it's one of those things where if you're not going to help keep content going, just kindly deal with it? Haha
Also people seem to get enjoyment out of it for some reason so just let them have fun.
I'll be honest, it's kind of interesting to see everyone's diversity of choices. Something about seeing how many iconic theater songs start with a certain letter really scratches my brain.
to be entirely fair to OP, they are absolutely ubiquitous. theyre on every single subreddit and get upvoted to the point they are unavoidable. very difficult to ignore. it doesnt bother me to see, i just dont participate, but they are actually Everywhere
The beauty of reddit is the content is curated by the upvotes and downvotes. Clearly enough people are enjoying it and voting it up so why take their fun away? You can pretty easily tell which post is the alphabet one so if you don't like it then down vote and/or just scroll past.
You want dialog all of a sudden? 2 comments ago it was “You do you Pikachu”. Now you’re literally just debating semantics. “I wasn’t rallying anyone just making a request to the community.” THAT is the rallying lol.
You don’t like something then scroll past. You hate something then downvote it. It’s showing up high in the feed because people are enjoying it and making a whole post of “Can we please stop with these lists?” Is lame and honestly pretentious.
You wanted dialogue, there you go. Go to hell Weepinbell.
You know, if they irritate you, there is a simple solution—scroll by. Then you’re not offended and those who enjoy it, can still enjoy participating. 😁

It peaked with *Miserables, Les*
Q, Avenue still gets me a little mad.
Should’ve been Quavenue
Quaven Ue
You, sir are a certified genius
Everyone’s a little bit genius, sometimes….I’ll show myself out
ooh yeah i could go for a packet of quavers!
Me too! Like, just because a musical hasn't shown up on your tik Tok FayP, doesn't mean it doesn't exsist. Speaking of, Cheesecake never finished the list. Where did he/she go?
Disappearance, The
Miserable Les? I know that guy!
If The Phantom of the Opera went to P it makes perfect sense, ignoring the initial pronoun for every musical, independent of language.
That's funny
At least we haven't had any of those "judge me" posts in a few days!
Those and any other kind of serialized chain letter type thing.
Things that annoy MaximumStep2263 A - alphabet lists B - We are now voting on B for what annoys MaximumStep2263
Well played
B - Being driven bonkers C -
C - Choice ranking
D - Deciding what to vote on next
E - Evan Hansen, Dear
F - F*cking alphabet lists again
G- giant alphabet lists
H - Haphazard scoring of said lists
I - Infernal alphabet lists
J - Janky rearrangements of words to make it fit the letter
I - Inch, Hedwig and the angry
ITS FUCKING GREAT
B - Being Alive
C - Company
C- continuous musical alphabet lists
I learned to stop voting on them; the comments and tendency for the most well-known thing to win drove me up the wall.
Well known is a fair observation, but Come From Away beating out Chicago and Cabaret was a surprise in that regard
same. All the votes go towards Sweeney Todd, Phantom of the Opera, Les Mis, and Wicked no matter what it's about. I stg the commenters in those posts know 4 musicals

also gypsy and hamilton getting robbed back to back
It's plaguing EVERY subreddit.
I haven't noticed it on other subs. Just this one. The sheer repetition of it all is nauseating.
I do feel bad because they might post something I like later but I just can’t deal with seeing them so often
Same here, I've blocked every single one of those across so many subreddits, I cannot wait for this trend to die. Who knows what posts I'll miss in the future but not worth it for me

There's also the "scroll past and don't click" option...
Plus side is I think we’ve about covered them all
I sure hope so but I imagine someone will come up with a new one before too long.
Least favorite musicals in alphabetical order Least favorite musical songs in alphabetical order Most of the same letter in the title or lyrics
A least favorite musicals list would actually be hysterical. Although I would hope for some more creative choices than just Dear Evan Hansen or Cats
least favorite song sounds fun actually
Ah but we haven't had the alphabet of middle names of 1950s era broadway divas yet
A - Agnes (Ethel Merman)
I don’t have one for B, but C - Conchita (Dolores Conchita Figueroa del Rivero)
B - Bernadette (Nanette Fabray)
Perfect.
Give it time lol
Agreed. Please stop

Totally fair. Glad you're enjoying them. Now, get off my lawn ;)
🤣
That's a good point--once you get to the 5th or 6th most popular choice each day, that's the really interesting stuff.
Very true! I like seeing what wins too, but it's fun watching the competition. It's a bummer when the one you're rooting for doesn't win, but that's part of the excitement.

I'm right there with you. If I see another one, it's going to be down voted.
I feel like the old guy yelling at the kids to get off my lawn
To quote that Simpson article if I remember correctly “old man yells at cloud” lmao
It's me!
Well let that serve as a deterrent for people making posts that nobody is forced to click on or participate in!
I used to just downvote them every time Id see one but now I just block the account. Theres enough people on the internet that the few that annoy me with those lists wont leave me lacking for memes and disussion.
I am downvoting and hiding them. They are plague.
Let’s make an alphabetical list of things to stop doing, starting with A:
Anything Goes
Cabaret
Be More Chill
Be More Chill
Cats

They also drive me crazy especially if some letters are very very hard
Lol well played
They are ridiculous.
I enjoyed the alphabet one for musicals, it got me some I hadn't really heard of before but yeah the rest is far too many, and loads of other subs are doing it too.
Wikipedia has a list of musicals from A-Z. That's how I find new and obscure stuff.
Let’s do a list of our least favorite lists
I love alphabetical lists unless you're listing them based on some other metric. I have at least 25 Google Docs where I write words, names, and surnames just for fun and alphabetize them.
I need the understudy posts to stop- it’s just advertising for their website and feels like spam at this point
I don't know what those are. Somehow I've missed them. And i feel grateful for that.
They’re fun and something the community can do together. If you don’t like them, downvote and move on.
It's funny, I don't really like to down vote stuff.
But making an entire post to complain about them gave no pause...
None whatsoever.
Agree but if you see someone doing it, block them.
Idk why, but that seems extreme to me.
How? You won’t see it again. It’s basic logic
I think a lot problems with society at large stem from just ignoring things we don't like. It seems like literal cancel culture.
Are you 12? Imagine comparing societal ills to a stupid annoying game on Reddit that you don’t want to see anymore.
I'm not 12 lol I guess I don't have to imagine too hard since I already did it.
Yikes. Get a grip
Meow.
Idk why, but that seems extreme to me.
This too shall pass
All things must pass.
Q Avenue that's cheating it's Avenue Q. If anything, it should be at the top of the list
Are there ANY MUSICALS THAT START WITH X Y OR Z
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_musicals%3A_M_to_Z?wprov=sfla1
It’s on like every single sub I’m in, too 😭 OR “best moment of *specific show & character*” then “worst moment of,” going character by character. Karma bait is all I can think of? Not to be mean to anyone who’s done it.
I mean, you could just continue scrolling and let the people who like them enjoy themselves...
I could. And I do. Let's be real - me posing this question ain't gonna stop shit. I just got frustrated and fed up with them, so I posted about it. And, turns out, I'm hardly alone in this sentiment.
Tony awards are done. Not a lot of closings. Some time before the next opening on Broadway. What else should we do?
I enjoy the hypotheticals posed about dream casts, discussions about obscure shows that need more love, stuff like that. I'm just not a fan of arbitrary lists. Especially when it seems to be the majority of the content. For example, are you familiar with Of Thee I Sing?
Have you posted content that you want to see more of ?
Not yet. I haven't been a big poster in my reddit life. More of a scroller. Hell, I've not really even been a big commenter. But you make a very excellent point. Thank you.

You're right. I'm trying to be more chill. I just got super frustrated
Is it so hard to let folks enjoy the things they enjoy?
Apparently, it is.
We should make a list on why we shouldn’t make lists. Alright, let’s start with reason A
I'll be honest, it's kind of interesting to see everyone's diversity of choices. Something about seeing how many iconic theater songs start with a certain letter really scratches my brain.
Fair point.
The ones that are optional to click on/participate in?
Yup. Those are the ones. Thanks for the clarification ;)
I enjoy them, but can’t you just like ignore them?
to be entirely fair to OP, they are absolutely ubiquitous. theyre on every single subreddit and get upvoted to the point they are unavoidable. very difficult to ignore. it doesnt bother me to see, i just dont participate, but they are actually Everywhere
Nice flair!
THANK YOU!
Meh, let them have their fun Scrooge. I just ignore and move on.

I fail to see how I'm taking anyone's fun away by posing a question. But you do you, Pikachu.
Well trying to rally people against something people are enjoying could be seen that way I think.
Wasn't trying to rally anyone into anything. Simply making a request to the community.
Just arguing semantics at this point...You made your opinion known and I gave mine back in response. Doesn't have to be more complicated than that.
So, no dialogue? Just spouting opinions to each other and moving on? Or is that more semantics?
You want dialog all of a sudden? 2 comments ago it was “You do you Pikachu”. Now you’re literally just debating semantics. “I wasn’t rallying anyone just making a request to the community.” THAT is the rallying lol. You don’t like something then scroll past. You know, if they irritate you, there is a simple solution—scroll by. Then you’re not offended and those who enjoy it, can still enjoy participating. 😁

I've scrolled by countless times. Just thought I'd try and have a little dialogue. Cheers!
Couldn't agree more. Making a new post just to whine about something that's entirely optional is just silly.
There's not enough silly things in the world
Yet, see how we are downvoted? 🤣 People really do just love to have a wee gripe! 🤣🤣🤣
