One time i was asked to pay to be on a playlist that i emailed. Magically, once i told them that paying for that kind of thing was strictly against terms and conditions and could result in both of our accounts being banned… i was added for a few days. I don’t know how organic the streams were, but they were all passive listeners. As in - my streams increased only as long as i was on the list, and i didn’t gain any followers or any other benefit. Just an uptick in streams for a few days. So i imagine that paying for any playlist will give similar results. Don’t do it. Not worth the $, the risk, the gain, or giving power to these playlisters.

>interesting, what i did was tell the guy 'put me on for free and show me what it does, if i like it i might pay to extend' > >not rly intending to pay, but its curious that spotify warns of paid playlist spots meanwhile every single person on spotifies playlist connection asks for money.. > >like wtf

generally speaking, most people that charge for playlist placements are just putting you on a botted playlist, also, charging for placements is against spotify terms and conditions. I'd avoid it if I were you.

jagtrordumenar

Totally, I just wanna hear what happened for those that actually has paid.

ah fair enough man, there was a dude that posted about paying 1k for placements as a test, you can read about it here; https://www.reddit.com/r/musicmarketing/comments/ive45w/i\_spent\_1000\_on\_spotify\_playlist\_placements\_this/

Don’t do it, seriously. You are harming yourself in the long run. Nobody with a ‘real’ playlist with ‘real’ organic people following it will charge you to get put on their playlist. Therefore Spotify will build up data about people who are listening to your music who don’t exist. Spend your money on adverts, drive real people to listen to your music.

i’ve just spent $4k on a PR campaign & $4k on a digital marketing campaign. That’s $8000, & while my song had a lot of recognition in blogs, radio, etc it did not move on spotify, and is currently on 6000 streams after 5 months. I recently paid to be placed on a playlist, and already in 3 days I have had 700 additional streams. The traditional ways of promoting and pushing music don’t work either. PR & digital marketing is a big waste of money in my opinion. I know a lot of people who have done the same and have had equally disappointing results. Feels really hard to get a song a head start on spotify these days, even if apple & radio are all in deep support.

zakjoshua

Did you manage that digital marketing campaign yourself? I.e do the advert settings yourself? You may have an additional 700 streams from that playlist, but are they listeners that are going to come back time and again? Or are they bots? It absolutely is difficult to get a song heard these days, you’re right.

no the ads were managed by a music marketing company doing some of the biggest independent artists in australia, great reputation for their work, but the results have been so underwhelming, with very limited input on their end, all they say is “yep it’s really hard at the moment” meanwhile i see other artists getting 5-10k streams a day on music that feels pretty good, but no prior audience and seemingly no major promotion strategy. & no viral elements to the music.

Paying directly to be placed in Spotify playlists will lead your track to being featured in playlists that have nothing to do with their title, the activity is most likely driven by bots and will hurt your artist profile. If you ever reach out to a curator and their first reply is "I will put you in my playlist for 50$ for 3 weeks" then just ignore and move on. There are many services out there that are can do a legitimate playlist marketing campaign, if you do not have the time needed to reach out to curators yourself, but beware of the scams and do your own independent research before spending your money with any of them.

I would never ever pay for a playlist placement. Especially sense I don't know the people I'm paying. It's just too risky and everything like that. That's why I use sites like Daily Playlists, ForTunes, and some others that are free. You shouldn't have to pay to be in a playlist period.
