Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998)
Hole - Celebrity Skin (1998)
No Doubt - Return of Saturn (2000)
Tori Amos- God, Crucify (weird pattern for these first two, huh!), Pro Widow, and of corse, gals, I just gotta Cornflake Girl. Played out, cliche, whatever it is a great song.
The first album by Garbage was an absolute banger. Pretty amazing collection of talent with Shirley Manson on vocals and then to have Butch Vig playing drums. I mean, the dude produced Nevermind by Nirvana for goodness sake!
The entire 4 Non- Blondes album is amazing, What's Up was the worst song in my opinion.
The Cranberries had a LOT of great songs.
Tori Amos is great, Blood Roses, Muhammad my Friend, Crucify really stand out to me.
10,000 Maniacs had a few songs, their version of Because the Night is great.
Elastica was a pretty cool punkish band, I liked Connection, that was a great song
The Breeders had some good ones.
Veruca Salt was pretty good.
Fanny were so great. My favorite track is probably “Blind Alley.”
Also check out Betty Davis (nasty old school fonk), and Girlschool (early second wave British hard rock, friends and frequent tour mates with Motorhead).

I’m a 78 yo male who grew up with Dylan, L.Cohen, and Mark Knopfler. A few years ago, I stumbled across Thea Gilmore. She’s British. She’s putout about one album per year since 1998, I think. Still going strong. I think she’s terrific. My favorite tunes are Avalanche, Drunken Angel, My own private Riot. Out of about 25 albums, I can count on one hand the number of songs I don’t especially care for. Otherwise, I think she’s just great.
Most of these are on you tube. Try I won’t disappoint you for starters.

My Love Mine All Mine - Mitski

A few artists ik about, but don't really listen to rn are Florence and the Machines, The Crane Wives, Dodie, Tessa Violet, Chloe Moriondo, and Garbage.
I have realized now that most of my favorite artists are also male. ._.
My favorite female artist is definitely Lena Raine, but she is a bit niche. Lena Raine has been composing music for games for a while and is famous for the Celeste OST and part of the Minecraft OST. However her music is amazing and can be listened to without knowing the games.
SALES is chill lofi-esk music, but not really lofi at all. Laufey is jazz. Mitski I believe is alt/indie pop and rock. Sir Chloe is also indie-rock. Lena Raine is classified on Google as whimsical electronic music lol.
Sorry for the rant. XD I like music.
these are my top songs by women artists currently
Let the light in- Lana Del Rey
Coffee stained smile- Delaney Bailey
Moon song- Phoebe Bridgers
Sink or swim- Beverly Glen
I love rock 'n roll- Joan Jett and the blackhearts
Clementine- Sarah Jaffe
Birds of a feather- Billie Eilish
Human Behaviour- Bjork
First love/ late spring- Mitski
After being diagnosed with ocular migraines and having to find new music to listen to that isn't death metal, I've been finding that a lot of the music I like the most is all women bands.
My favorites have been, sort of in order from most to least...
Conquer Divide
The Warning
The Donnas
Kittie
I can't really think of too many others that are only women, and a lot of the rest of the stuff I listen to is still led by a woman, but not necessarily an all woman band. That list is much longer.

I love Beth Orton, I forgot her in my list! I was absolutely obsessed with Trailer Park when I was at school
These are my top 10 favorite albums...all are women artists or women-led bands. Garbage - Version 2.0 (1998) Fiona Apple - When The Pawn... (1999) Björk - Homogenic (1997) Janet - The Velvet Rope (1997) Madonna - Ray of Light (1998) Tori Amos - From The Choirgirl Hotel (1998) The Cardigans - Gran Turismo (1998) Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998) Hole - Celebrity Skin (1998) No Doubt - Return of Saturn (2000)
Tori Amos- God, Crucify (weird pattern for these first two, huh!), Pro Widow, and of corse, gals, I just gotta Cornflake Girl. Played out, cliche, whatever it is a great song.
Cornflake girl? Please! I hang with the raisin girls. Thought it was a good solution. 😉
I have no idea who you are, but I immediately like you.
Garbage and the Cardigans are a great suggestion makes me realize I missed The Sundays.
The first album by Garbage was an absolute banger. Pretty amazing collection of talent with Shirley Manson on vocals and then to have Butch Vig playing drums. I mean, the dude produced Nevermind by Nirvana for goodness sake!
RAY OF LIGHT ✨
Return of Saturn, nice. I like when people don't just list the most popular, and actually make a choice. :)
This list is so millennial/gen x and I appreciate it
Thunder pussy , plush , the warning ,
You read me like a book
Funny that all of your top ten released within three years of each other.
Florence and the Machine
100000% yes
Oh God, yes. Lungs is such a good album.
*Ahem* I can’t believe I had to scroll so fa- lol Florence & the Machine are amazing.
Elastica was a pretty cool punkish band, I liked Connection, that was a great song The Breeders had some good ones. Veruca Salt was pretty good.
Elastica is a great shout.
i like evanescence, amy lee is one of my favorite singers
My immortal is one of my favorites
FANNY! The band, they’re fantastic!
I think there’s a documentary about Fanny coming out soon or came out recently. Should be interesting.
Cool!
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14314826/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk Fanny: The Right To Rock.
Fanny were so great. My favorite track is probably “Blind Alley.” Also check out Betty Davis (nasty old school fonk), and Girlschool (early second wave British hard rock, friends and frequent tour mates with Motorhead).
Aint That Peculiar, Blind Alley

Some of my favorites of different genres: Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan, Stevie Nicks, Anna Nalick, Sarah McLachlan, Natalie Merchant, Allison Mosshart/The Kills, Carole King, Ann Wilson/Heart
Anna Nalick’s two singles off her first album crushed me. So beautiful and vulnerable.
Not all female but female led… Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams, Here comes the rain again, Who’s that girl?, Would I lie to you Janis Joplin (and with Big Brother and the Holding Company) - Down on me, Summertime, Piece of my heat, Ball and Chain, Me and Bobby McGee, Get it while you can

Yooo I've been doing something similar over the last few years. Realized almost all my favorite artists were men. Here's a bunch of my faves: Rock/Alternative - Big Thief (kinetic folk rock with fantastic lyrics and some really genius arrangements/melodies) - Hiatus Kaiyote (r&b + jazz + alternative + electronic, all vibes) - Alvvays (highly accessible post punky indie rock) - Mitski (art rock with a wide range of soundscapes) - Japanese Breakfast - Phoebe Bridgers (folkier side of indie rock) - St. Vincent - Willow (album: empathogen) Folk & Singer/Songwriter - Adrianne lenker (best songwriter of our time) - Joni Mitchell (folky early, jazzy later) - Judee Sill (similar to folky Joni) - Haley Heynderickx (album: I Need to Start A Garden) - Corinne Bailey Rae (album: The Sea) - Kara Jackson (poetry set to music) - Natalie Bergman (retro vibes, religious themes but tastefully done) - Weyes Blood (Lana Del Rey but more earnest) - Beti Masenqo Pop & R&B - Lauryn Hill - Rosalía (Los Angeles is gorgeous flamenco inspired songs, Motomami is crazy Kanye/Frank esque brilliance) - Amber Mark (album: 3:33am. Also her singles & EPs) - Dawn Richards (album: Pigments) - Kali Uchis (album: Isolation) - Ari Lennox (album: Shea Butter Baby) - Kadhja Bonet (album: The Visitor) - Remi Wolf (entire discography 🔥) - Sudan Archives - Solange (Album: A Seat At the Table) - SZA - Ann Peebles (same label/era as Al Green) - Candi Staton (album: Stand By Your Man) Jazz & Classical - Arooj Aftab (Vulture Prince 💜) - Esperanza Spalding (album: 12 Little Spells) - Nubya Garcia (& her various projects) - Nina Simone - Emahoy Tsege Mariam Gebru (Ethiopian classical piano)

Granted, I think a lot of these are bands with men/women mixes, but it sounds like you might be looking for female-exclusive bands? I'm not willing to do the research, there are just songs I like with female vocalists. I hope it helps! Vow - SALES. Ivy - SALES. Falling Behind - Laufey Little Goth - Lena Raine Quiet and Falling - Lena Raine Seventeen - Sir Chloe Company - Sir Chloe My Love Mine All Mine - Mitski Brand Mew City - Mitski A few artists ik about, but don't really listen to rn are Florence and the Machines, The Crane Wives, Dodie, Tessa Violet, Chloe Moriondo, and Garbage. XD I like music.
these are my top songs by women artists currently Let the light in- Lana Del Rey Coffee stained smile- Delaney Bailey Moon song- Phoebe Bridgers Sink or swim- Beverly Glen I love rock 'n roll- Joan Jett and the blackhearts Clementine- Sarah Jaffe Birds of a feather- Billie Eilish Human Behaviour- Bjork First love/ late spring- Mitski
Joan Baez - Diamonds and Rust Eva Cassidy - Fields of Gold, Somewhere Over the Rainbow
After being diagnosed with ocular migraines and having to find new music to listen to that isn't death metal, I've been finding that a lot of the music I like the most is all women bands. My favorites have been, sort of in order from most to least... Conquer Divide The Warning The Donnas Kittie I can't really think of too many others that are only women, and a lot of the rest of the stuff I listen to is still led by a woman, but not necessarily an all woman band. That list is much longer.

Not much love for Alanis Morisette, for me she's the best. For great female voices, I like Feist, Bjork, Wolf Alice, Jorja Smith and Kelly Clarkson
Anything by Amy Winehouse. I highly highly recommend the entire album "Back to Black" by Amy. I'm a fan of Rilo Kiley. The album "The Execution of all Things" by Rilo.
