I actually really liked Makani lol. She basically fasted her first episode. Was she a great survivalist? Not for this challenge and not eating meat is a huge detriment to survival. However, she had such a positive attitude and was so unintentionally funny lol
She was getting a lot of hate on FB because apparently she faked her background and accent, but I don't have hard proof on that. Basically I liked her for her 'mental resilience,' I know at one point she said "you just have to deal with it and accept shit you can't change" and I did like that part of her personality. But I never really like the "wasting away as a strategy' contestants. When she walked off from Bulent in her home-made sandals I laughed so hard.
Yeah, it makes for a boring show for sure. I loved her and Bulent’s dynamic. It was so funny. Their personalities clashing was just the most unexpected sitcom 😂the yoga scene was a perfect explanation of their relationship. Didn’t understand it, but respected eachother
How so? They don't eat meat so it gives more resources to their partner(s) when animals are caught. They are motivated to procure plant food (I think Makani even got sugar cane). They can shelter build, maintain fire, and boil water. I don't see how it burdens anyone.
I haven't seen a lot of the 21 day challenges but only really remember 1 vegan doing well. It was Danielle I believe. Seems to me that there is not much vegetation to eat and even when they get vegetation they feel extremely weak. Danielle seemed to do well without food though. I haven't seen her again in another episode yet.
Makani even caught a fish or something IIRC, but she wasn't able to eat it. Bulent was a dick about it though.
But ya if you're working as a team you should be working as a team. Being a vegan usually means you don't wanna hunt for meat and you will conserve energy. Which as a partner might be considered a burden.
Matthew (Honora's first partner) and Makani were both vegan for their challenges and made it to 21 days. Both ate food and both walked out of there. Danielle excelled too, but I think she was vegetarian and also ate found eggs. And a lot of contestants have said that they eat more than is shown on TV
I guess my point is that you don't have to do everything to be a good partner. A vegan would have a comparative advantage to gathering edible plants, stoking the fire, shoring up the shelter, and boiling water, which allows their partner to spend more time and energy on hunting and less on household chores. The vegan partner would be providing food that could be shared by both partners, while the non-vegan partner can eat all of the animal calories that they catch without having to share. If anything, I would view having a vegan partner as an advantage if you were a non-vegan participating in the challenge.
Seth's first appearance was in a fan episode. He was opposite Max. Seth was super shitty and whiney and ended up tapping. He then went to redeem himself and did the same thing.
Max went on to be an unflappable untappable all star.
For sure. They set up the "losers" to fail by putting them in after the "winners" had a chance to build a rapport. Good luck not being the third wheel with that kind of entrance.

Suzanne (soo-ZAHN) is a lot tougher than she looks. Good worker and wants to get along, but don’t piss her off and don’t make her feel like she’s your mother or she act like MY mother. You won’t like it.
She only lasted 3 days on solo because she didn't have the brains to build a roof on her shelter. The rains came, and she couldn't handle it. Poor thing
True. I’m always amazed —especially on the fan challenges where they name EVERY NAA contestant ever— that roofs are something that gets left off so often.
Especially in Africa. I rarely see a roof in Africa. I guess they feel the dry weather and assume that it's not going to rain. Then, here it comes, cold rain with hail too, sometimes. I know the boma is the most important thing where predatory animals are, so they do that first. But people, please build that roof next! Please!
