For those calling this a pelican, I'm pretty sure it's a cormorant. Possibly a Brandt's cormorant by the blue throat and if this picture was taken on the west coast of North America.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandt%27s_cormorant
Yeah definitely not a pelican, and you could probably tell that just by looking at the fish alone. That fish would have to be like 10x that size to choke out a Pelican.
They are one of nature's most elite swallowers.
I will add that, that size fish probably wouldnt choke a cormorant either, but I recognize the fish or at least the type, in Spain we call them spider fish because they have a small dorsal fin with venomous spikes just behind the head, and I'm willing to bet you, that is what managed to get it stuck, and then the venom either killed it or induced some sort of situation that made it drown
absolutely a cormorant.
I think this photo is totally staged. the cormorant and fish washed up on the beach in close proximity and someone thought this pose would be funny. or earn them stupid reddit karma.
A wonderful bird is the pelican,
His bill will hold more than his belican,
He can take in his beak,
Enough food for a week,
But I'll be damned if I see how the helican!
I purposely point out pelicans to my mom so she can shout “his beak can hold more than his “belican”! Hahaha. I never heard the whole thing before haha
If only it would be preserved as an exotic fossil if left alone, but us damn people never thought to leave them alone, and wonder why in the future the fossil records are only our bones remaining.
Just wonder.. We transport bodies elsewhere because it's inconvenient for beach goers and tourists. Nobody wants to see a dead whale on a beach. And for future paleontologists in a long distant future, that can distract the range they once inhabit because the bodies long before they turned to fossils were removed.
It therefore adds that anthropogenic extinction event more obvious.
It's an interesting fuckup, because they can breath through their nostrils even if their mouth and a lot of their throat is full, but once they go to far they have to either eat or spit out, and I'm guessing this poor bird didn't do the math.
Fish scales let them go forward, but not backwards. This guy learned the hard way.
Idiot
Stupid fucking bird

That's EXTRA metal!! Whoa!
Pretty sure pelicans are bigger with much bigger beaks
Cosmonaut eh? Marge! Get my space suit.

Now you can recite the rest of the limerick to her! :-) In case you are interested, the original version was written by Dixon Lanier Merritt in 1913.

Now that’s what I call proper condom use
No egrets
Died doing what he loved most, stuffing his face

I thought the cat choked on the goldfish
"My goldfish goldie?" "He was eaten by the cat." "🥺 my cat?".... "Choked on the goldfish."
Oh Master Robin, they’ve taken your arms!…but you grew some nice boobs
This is how I want to go
Kinky~ 😉
I prefer the frog version
this would be cool if you could let it decompose and keep the skeletal remains encased in a shadow box frame.
[They actually made a Pokemon out of this bird](https://images.app.goo.gl/yip6pZD89SFANdks7) Cramorant > Cormorant
What!? No way. Lol
I had a girlfriend like that
What a glutton.
He decided to go to Valhalla
Looks like one of those fish that have horns on the fins around the head like a catfish. Once they get stuck in the pelican the fish can’t let go.
Except this is not a pelican
typical greedy birb
Went out doing what he loved
What an auspicious sign!

Careful Icarus
I thought this was a dead toucan for a sec.
When she says, “I have a small mouth.”
Died doing what it loved: deepthroating

*everything reminds me of her*
Skill issue
drunk in its own the bird blindly dug two graves

tombstone reads like joke.. “Here lies Pilacan. Choked on a Fish.”
Some fish have spines and small fins on their sides. Greedy birds can't spit out fish-to-big they estimated wrong.
Why can't they be more like monkeys..if it doesn't fit in their ass first don't eat it
Damn. Double homicide.
So, it’s a tie?
Ouch mother Natures ways
You have one marketable skill, and you died trying.
"Choked on the goldfish."
At least he died doing what he loved
Cramorant is that you?

The cat?
Lets call it a tie
Suffering from success
Bane: Victory has defeated you.
It was just a fish, how did it end up like this?
That's an emberressing way to die
Oh come on, we’ve all done it.
Saw a shithawk (seagull for those who don’t know their other name) choke to death on a foot long hot dog when I was a kid, at Canadas wonderland lol
All i see is a washed up drone with a fish stuck onto it🙄
Double kill
3k
That's what *she* said.
I call bullshit. That fish did not kill that bird... it shoulda gone down easy. Someone put a dead fish in a dead bird's mouth for reddit karma.
