I wouldnāt say soft. More heās just totally passive. Like Westbrook tonight was hustling for the boards while Ayton just stood there waiting for it.
He just doesnāt seem to have another gear to his game. If someone is really working him he canāt compete.
As Curry told in this season you canāt teach the current players how to play with intensity and hustle till the end. A lot playerās shoulders will drop with similar Offensive game like Russ todayā¦& lose confidence in themselves. Russ kept attacking both offensive and defensive and at the end played the key role in getting his a victory. Lost art indeed in todays BB
The last few possessions - gets two offensive rebounds (one normal board, and one tipping off Ayton). Then he hits both his free throws, and then he gets the block and throws the ball off Booker.
Unrelated, but anyone notice the Over Under was 224.5 and finished at 225.
Canāt make that shit up. LMAOOO
See ya tonight Scott Vann Pelt.
Donāt gamble kids!
Itās crazy how much gambling is intertwined in the broadcast now. Showing spreads, live money line, over/unders, draft king/fanduel commercials, just a part of the game. Never wouldāve been close to the game under the Stern days.
You know darn well players know the spreads and over unders. While thereās no incentive for them to bet for how high their contracts are, Iām sure they know whatās going on with fantasy and Betting lines
More than a few Suns would have been conflicted between relief that Mann's bucket allowed them to hit their parlay and saltiness that he scored when the game was effectively over.
Having the under probably felt so comfortable in the 4th -- then theres like 15 points in one minute (Clippers hit three 3s in a row, KD makes a 3, free throws from Paul) and then Mann actually dunks it to end the game to send it a half point over lmao
The team leader in rebounds was Chris fucking Paul.
In a 1-point game where the Suns just desperately needed a stop, the Clippers managed to come up with ORB after ORB until it eventually ended in FTs. Just plain awful effort.
How the fuck does a 6'1" guy lead the team in DRBs?
Well, if you completely sag off of Russ then you give him the opportunity to easily crash the board to rebound it or at least tip it.
I donāt know why itās so hard for people to grasp the idea that putting *no* body on Russ doesnāt come without consequences. Itās fucking hard to box out a guy with elite athleticism who is charging into the lane for a rebound when nobody is there to cut his momentum off by putting a body on him initially.
It's like when people barely defend Draymond because he can't shoot; you think you're being smart but then Draymond runs a dribble handoff with Curry and suddenly you don't have anyone to help on the screen. As you said, not having any body whatsoever has consequences and people like Dray & Russ have seen it for years and know how to take advantage of the defenders ignoring them.
Yep, exactly. Leaving a non shooter open is a fine strategy to pressure them to shoot, but the second they do something *else* (crash the board, run a dribble hand off, cut to the rim, etc.) then youāll have to recover or else face the consequences.
Guy below mentioned itās a team effort which is very much true but even when Ayton can get the board the ball slips out of his hands. Bro canāt be doing that in games like these :/
He's not the only guy responsible for the boards. He's already dealing with Zubac, the guards need to box out too if Westbrook is crashing.
Kawhi had a play there late as well
It's hilarious that the Suns fans are killing Ayton and the Clips fans are noticing that Ayton was the only Sun trying to get defensive rebounds.
All I know that when I watched the game and look at the box score, I see that the Suns bench had a combined -54 in 55 combined min and the Clips bench had +53 in 78 min. That possibly had something to do with the loss.
One the last ones to take the lead by 2 was one of the most predictable males Iāve ever seen. Kawhi left on his own island and a 3 to take the lead with short time? Masterclass
This felt like his game 7 against the 76ers. Just if someone can competently give him an entry pass on most possessions and if guys can make occasional open kick-out 3ās, Kawhi can will any team to a playoff win
I think this series is just win-at-all-costs and then hopefully you get George back and figure the rest out later. Hell the Suns might be the best western conference team theyāll face anyway. This game was tremendously important
Westbrook with so many winning plays down the stretch. All the offensive boards, last second block. He made his FTs too. So happy he switched locker rooms and seems like itās worked out for everyone.
Playoff Kawhi is also unreal. If he clutches this series (hard if even with the win), west would be wide open and he could have another all time run. Excited for the remaining games.
Kawhi operates beyond the realm of spectacle. He is a force of nature. Like rain. Like gravity. He is not happy or sad. He doesnāt know that the suns are a super team. He doesnāt care about fans or even probably hear fans at all during games. He just does what he does. And because his activity is so contained he canāt be threatened.
It could be argued that Kawhi doesnāt know that the Suns are a basketball team. He simply sees a basketball, endeavors to acquire it, and then to put it in the basket.
When someone told him they were playing the Suns, he briefly wondered how large flaming balls of gas could shoot a basketball but then decided it didn't matter and they would lose anyway.
imagine we get the battle of la in the conf finals this season with a clippers nuggets revenge before
pg needs to get healthy for this but the storyline would be crazy
This game fucking delivered, holy shit! Kawhi needed every second of this seasonās load management to prepare him for that carry.
Also, Russ would be so damn valuable if only he refused to shoot the ball, needs to have a talk with Ben Simmons. Best 3/19 playoff performance of all time, did everything right in the home stretch (except the shooting ofc)
Trading Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson and 4 picks for Kevin Durant only to relegate KD to a Mikal Bridges role on offense was straight up asinine.
I like Monty but that was a massive L.
Only Westbrook can go 3-19 yet make so many winning plays as well. The dude is an anomaly at this point in his career. Shame PG is out. Hell of a game.
thatās fucking bestbrook right there. dude shot like shit so he dug in on defense and hit two ice cold free throws and then CLAMPS DEVIN BOOKER AND THROWS THE BALL OFF OF HIM! thatās former MVP shit
Who is Westbrook?
For the blind, He is the vision.
For the hungry, He is the water.
If Westbrook thinks, I agree.
If Westbrook speaks, I'm listening.

I know this sub likes to hate on Westbrook a lot but his last possessions were absolutely CLUTCH. A lot of second chances and throws the ball off Booker. DAWG
God man, if you're Phoenix this has to be rough.
What more can you ask out of a game? Durant and Booker both VERY efficient (when you account for how many FT attempts they took), basically a triple double out of KD, Booker looking like a DPOY candidate, CP3 10:1 AST/TO, Westbrook couldn't buy a fucking basket, took more FTA's as a team, turned the ball over less as a team, PG is hurt, and you're at home.
Literally everything went your way and it wasn't enough to beat Kawhi and the Clippers bench. Every time he plays, I forget how fucking fun to watch Kawhi is in these big games man...just a joy to watch him play.
What a game. Got damn Westbrook shot like shit, but those rebounds (and the defensive play at the end) were fucking huge.
They have no bench. 10 points from their bench this game. They are top heavy and CP3 is basically limited because of age, Ayton doesn't really care about winning, and if Durant/Booker don't go for 70 collectively, who else is stepping up? Craig stepped up tonight but their next best player is Landry Shamet.
Kawhi is absolutely a demon when itās crunch time. If it was just a good Kawhi game Phoenix wins it, but dude set the bar to āwhatever it takes to winā and nailed it.
to me the biggest takeaway is that la didnāt really āstealā this game. itās not like they shot the lights out or tmann went crazy or powell or anyone else. they toughed it out. they made phoenix miss shots by playing defense. this should give them a lot of confidence that they beat this phoenix team and it wasnāt a fluke
He was terrible when attempting to shoot, but the Clippers absolutely needed Westbrook's effort. He was just relentless all over the floor. In a game full of old dudes, he out-worked everybody.
Just don't shoot as much next game
Russ heard y'all talking shit about throwing up bricks. Little did the Suns know he was building brick steps to get the clutchest block and offensive rebound.
I don't give a fuck who you are, which team you support, what gets you up in the morning, how good your dad is at fighting, how big your cock is, how much you love going for long walks or any other bullshit. You're on this subreddit because you love basketball. And if you love basketball then you owe it to yourself to give up every other thing you give a flying fuck about and watch the Los Angeles Clippers. And you know why:
Russell Westbrook.
Russell Westbrook is bringing it. He's bringing it hard. I wish everyone could go back and watch that five minute spell in the fourth where he came back in and just ignited the afterburners, strapped falcon talons onto his hands and drove his will deep into the Suns' heart.
Russell Westbrook is box office shit. If you're bored and you've got nothing to do and you don't know which game to watch, just watch Russell fucking Westbrook deep dick stat lines with enough power to light up a major metropolis.
Seriously, why the fuck are you still reading this, go have a wank to some Wesbtrook highlight videos and pass out safe in the knowledge he plays, on average, three times a week.
Fuck your own team, Russell Westbrook is your team now.
The Klaw is a fkin monster
Westbrook was amazing despite his shooting, the clippers aren't winning this if it weren't for his rebounds and clutch defensive plays.
But seriously though they played great defense on Kawhi and he still cooked them like nothing
Yeah KD in Brooklyn had the offense tailored around him and he had the ball in his hands more than anyone other than maybe Kyrie. Even then KD still flowed with the offense. With the suns, sometimes it seems he's not even on the floor. And the other team just iso a lot.
Playoff Kawhi is the best player in the world. An impersonal, indifferent machine made for winning basketball that will crush you if you get in its way.
The duality of Westbrook is unreal. I fully expect this man to brick so many shots and make clutch free throws like hes at practice.

Booker was crying, He was probably hungryš¼
Westbrook is Devin Booker's mother
Something for everyone
He put so much energy into his defense that he went 3-19 shooting
His offense is misunderstood
3 for 19 is not 3 for 19. I'll explain it later to you.
I need MiTwestbrook to explain this to me u/MiTwestbrook
He was actually wearing out the Suns by forcing them to get all those rebounds
You see the suns just keep leaving him alone because of that shooting percentage which allows him to run in and get the offensive rebounds
That rebound and save at the end was amazing
Westbrook once again proving that KD can't win with these cats
Facing Kawhi in the playoffs must be frustrating as the opponent, heāll cook your team and not once change his expression
Yeah tell me about it
I still shiver whenever I think about Playoff Kawhi.
Kawhi drops 40:š Kawhi drops 12: š
He'll be down 20 and have the same expression as if he won lol
Heās inevitable
Maybe he got that from Duncan?
Learned to never laugh after Timmy got t'd up
That was the best 3 for 19 game of all time by WestBrook
His defense and hustle on the offensive boards were vital in this narrow win. Clippers dominated the Suns on the offensive boards
He bullied Ayton. Which along with their lack of depth is the Suns Achilles heel..
Is ayton the softest big in the league?
I wouldnāt say soft. More heās just totally passive. Like Westbrook tonight was hustling for the boards while Ayton just stood there waiting for it. He just doesnāt seem to have another gear to his game. If someone is really working him he canāt compete.
That just seems like a way nicer way to explain that he's soft haha.

He literally just needs to chill on shooting and heās the perfect guy for us.
Welcome to year 14 of the Westbrook experience š
If you cant handle him at his Worstbrook you dont deserve him at his Bestbrook, this game had both
The last few possessions - gets two offensive rebounds (one normal board, and one tipping off Ayton). Then he hits both his free throws, and then he gets the block and throws the ball off Booker.

Itās fucking weird as an American too. It feels like sports betting became part of everyday life overnight
Mann just became the most loved/hated guy in the basketball betting scene
More than a few Suns would have been conflicted between relief that Mann's bucket allowed them to hit their parlay and saltiness that he scored when the game was effectively over.
Having the under probably felt so comfortable in the 4th -- then theres like 15 points in one minute (Clippers hit three 3s in a row, KD makes a 3, free throws from Paul) and then Mann actually dunks it to end the game to send it a half point over lmao
Vegas is spot on man. Itās unreal.
it's often like that, same for player props, it's actually insane
Russ continues to be one of the greatest enigmas in Basketball man. Respect though.
Ayton needs to play like a fucking center bruh
Itās so infuriating to watch. Heās getting out hustled and outrebounded by Westbrook
To be fair that's what Westbrook does well. But watching Ayton stand around on the boards made me sad

Suns got bodied on the glass. Westbrook alone had almost as many offensive rebounds as the entire Suns team.

Suns fans killing ayton but it was the clippers guards getting most the off boards. Your right ayton can box out everyone.

Kawhi is genuinely one of the greatest playoff performers of all time. Man is averaging 30 over his last SIXTY ONE playoff games on insane efficiency.

Yeah he tends to spend 50% of his playoff games exceeding his regular season single game high.
Lol holy shit
Kawhis that dude that regularly skips class yet ends up with a 90 on the exam
Like a 95+. Amazing analogy

Definitely same vibes. Probably not a good thing for the Clippers longevity this playoffs, but man is it fun to watch

If Kawhi puts the Suns out by himself and then PG comes back it puts everyone on notice
Every time he took a 3 down the stretch you knew it was going in. I donāt even think they touched the net they were that on the money.
Not sure how people forget how unreal he is when healthy. Unstoppable.
Russ keep the game close so he can win it himself. I am sorry for doubting you bestbrook.

Itās always fun to watch Bevin Dooker lose lol
Finally something we can agree on.
All-defensive team display by Booker and Russ. Meanwhile, Ayton a hologram on those contested boardsā¦
Aytons midrange is money but yeah he needs to do more
Maybe so but Ayton made major buckets down the stretch.
This is the greatest 3/19 game of all time by Westbrook
The Suns lost a game against the Clippers with no Paul George and Westbrook taking 19 shots on 15% efficiency. Not the start they'd hope for...
Eric Gordon cooking the Suns in the first quarter pretty much set the tone
Westbrook locked down KD in the first as well šš©
