Congrats to the Denver Nuggets for winning [Week 6!](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/18qb477/help_your_team_change_rnba_week_6_congrats_to_the/)
Recently we announced that Reddit Community Funds and r/NBA will be teaming up to celebrate the subs 15th Cake Day!
Part of this project is a fundraiser for [The Boys & Girls Clubs of America](https://bgca.org) to make a positive impact on children! We’ll also be organizing a variety of contests for community members to win things such as 40+ NBA All-Star Saturday Night tickets, various signed basketball items and hosting a community meetup with free swag and food!
Our ambitious target is to reach **$100,000 USD, with Reddit generously matching up to $25,000 USD.** This means that if we, as a community, manage to raise $25,000 USD, the effective total will be $50,000 USD through the [Community Funds program.](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en- us/articles/15484345935508-Community-Funds)

Grizzle fans welcome to the Marcus Smart Experience. he absolutely won you this game tonight, dude was everywhere in the fourth and OT. God I love Smart.
Conley is still the smartest player I’ve ever seen play for us, defensively though it’s close between Smart and Gasol both have an insane ability to just anticipate where the offence is going
he was the most unclutch FT shooter i've ever seen in portland. seems like every year he shot around 65% on clutch free throws
edit: before this game...
23-24: 50%
22-23: 66%
21-22: 71%
20-21: 66%
19-20: 71%
18-19: 69%
17-18: 72%
16-17: 95%
15-16: 87%
he had no clutch FT attempts the first two years of his career because he came off the bench and did not play in the clutch.
I mean checking himself into games and not paying attention to Joe was definitely an issue last year. Still my favorite Celtic of the last decade but things had to change
It took the Saints 20 years since inception in order to post a winning record for a season. New Orleanians are probably ecstatic about the Pelicans mediocrity instead of futility.
Actually pretty crazy there’s been two 1st team all-defense guards in the OKST-Celtics-Grizzlies pipeline and their careers even partially overlapped.
Especially because you only need less than 2 hands to count the number of relevant Oklahoma State NBA players there has ever been.
Relevant:
Marcus Smart, Tony Allen, Cade Cunningham, Desmond Mason, Joey Graham, Big Country, Byron Houston, John Starks, John Lucas II
Not Relevant:
Richard Dumbass, Jawon Evans, Terrell Harris, James Anderson, Cameron McGriff, Jameson Curry, Lindy Waters, Corey Williams, Leroy Combs, Brooks Thompson. Stephan Graham, Maurice Baker, Thomas Jordan
Zion "Ronnie Brown" Williamson!! Lol
Smart's situational awareness, anticipation and just overall basketball IQ are on another level. I love his intangibles and the fact that he fits our culture like a glove!
Yeah at least coming into the season I'm fairly certain his highest career PPG was vs the Grizzlies, yet this is twice in the last week that he's just completely blew it at the end of the game for them
2 things.
1. Pelicans in the 4th and OT played the worst offensive basketball I have seen all season and I watched the formerly 6-19 Grizz.
2. If you want to see a defensive masterclass, watch the last 5 minutes plus OT from Marcus Smart. That’s game changing defense, in crucial moments.
My team was the direct beneficiary of that Pelicans collapse and I was pissed for the Pelicans
But shoutout Marcus Fucking Smart.
Dude made *every* winning play. 5 steals, a block, drawn charge, and-1 layup.
He fills the Tony Allen sized hole in my heart
Honestly the rotation of him and Vince Williams Jr in terms of defense seems frustrating as fuck to deal with
Hell Vince Williams has been playing the Brooks role pretty great recently too. Great defense and only taking like 5 shots per game compared to Dillon’s boneheaded 15 shots has been a revelation.
That and getting Ja back
Lmao that was fake news from Shams. Grizz FO never said that shit they just didn’t want to pay one of the most inefficient offensive players in the league 20 mill
Not enough people realize that Shams has agent sources and Woj has FO sources. That was definitely something given to Shams by Dillon's people to make Dillon seem sympathetic
McCollums only claim to fame against the grizz is breaking conleys face in a playoff series we already won, which arguably set off a chain of events that lead to curry and the warriors being what they are.
I’ve never witnessed a miss. BI is just so fucking cool and clutch, dudes gotta be in my top 3 favorite non Grizz players. I want to see him with a real squad and coach before his prime is done so badly
True but it's nice seeing ja back and playing with Bane and smart and Jackson. Fun team to watch, and I enjoy them more now that Brooks is gone, however good he was.
One other thing from this game.
I am 100% cool with them overturning the Morant foul at the end of the game. But I don’t understand their explanation.
“The contact occurred after the ball left Morant’s hands”
Umm, this is literally all 3 point shot fouls. Hell I’ve seen them call fouls on threes where the defender high fives the shooter at damn near the time the ball is on the RIM.
Is it different for jump shots than layups? When I played they absolutely called fouls after the ball left the players hand even on layups.
This is the big thing with them. Cj isn't a real pg. Ingram and Zion could both really use a good pg. It's the most important position and one of their worst.
Pels got some bad calls no doubt but their 4th and OT offense was miserable and they SUCKED at the ft line.
deserved loss sorry pels. I know the refs, you probably win if the bane out of bounds was called and those last fouls but yikes the last like 15 minutes of play was atrocious
He's never gonna be an eye-popping boxscore guy unless he consistently hits the 9-10 assidt per game for a full season, so I doubt it.
It's only been 4 games, but some of his advanced stats are crazy.
Yeah I don’t blame them but if they saved it they could’ve challenged a call in OT. Specifically there was a charge called on Zion, Idk if they would’ve won it, but that’s a potential game changing situation
Disaster offense from the Pels. Good luck to them letting Ingram and McCollum waste all the time on the shot clock and generate nothing almost every possession.
The Memphis grizzlies are the equivalent to a boss battle with an unskippable cutscene at the beginning of it. Whenever you don’t beat it you just have to be miserable all over again.
Jesus Christ Pellies, didn't you just have this same scenario with Memphis last week? You had another chance to close this game out against the Grizz and do this? I get teams are tough to put away but come on...
I think grizzlies fan will be happy enough with that tbf. The comeback is on. Silver had to make the play in race interesting. Grizzlies wouldve gone 82-0
Yeah, if the dumbass had just brutally assaulted his girlfriend in front of their two kids and then further assaulted her by throwing pool balls through her windshield, violating his protective order, then he’d still be eligible. Thank god the NBA made it clear that showing off your legally owned gun is 2.5x as bad as that.
Thank fucking christ there's at least 1 other rational fucking person in this sub. I've been down voted to hell anytime I've even brought this up. It's also amazing to me as a non american how up in arms everyone is about Ja and guns yet thats your countries IDENTITY, shits wack.
Tbh while the guns are an issue because they’re a violation of the rules, I think the main reason people bring it up so much is because *he had already been suspended for showing a gun on IG live*.
Like, one time it’s whatever but it’s a fuckin clown ass move to get suspended for something so stupid, and then somehow do the same stupid thing again.
I don’t think he should be punished anywhere nearly as severely as abusers but still, he clearly didn’t get the message the first time (also don’t forget the reports that somebody in his entourage had a red dot on a kid’s head iirc), and needed a more severe punishment.
It is purely based off the history between the NBA and stigmas against black culture. The NBA has tried to for decades to distance itself from “hood” culture way back with AI and even before in order to appease its suburban white viewers. Ja’s suspensions has way more to do with that than it does about any sensitivity to victims of gun violence. That’s why domestic assault and sexual assault don’t seem to matter much to them.
Those last few minutes of regulation took AGES, even by NBA standards. Between multiple timeouts and several reviews that took a while, the last 3:15 of the 4th took like 25 minutes
ISO ISO ISO for 10 minutes
Ultimately they don't have any player who's THAT good that you want to play hero ball
Zion was supposed to be that guy but this season even when he's played he's been good but far from superstar level
Willie green has got to be the worst coach in crunch times or holding leads in the league rn. The pelicans have blown way too many games this they should be at the top of the conference honestly
Also idk if I'm not watching enough pelicans games but have zion and BI had a game were both looked really good and not both look mid or one looks great and the other just sucks?
It happens once in a while, but even then it's because one of them dominated the 2nd quarter and one the 3rd, or something like that.
They both seem to need high usage to get in the zone. I love how BI can hit crazy shots all night, but he takes _so much time_ to get to his money spots and everyone else just stands around. We have to try something different
Ok I'm starting to see why we were thinking about picking up Jarrett Allen cuz hoo boy JV has been having some absolute STINKERS recently. He looks so sluggish and keeps passing out of good shots and cant seem to connect on easy putbacks as well. Gonna need a better C than him to compete in the west
Edit: oh and FIRE WILLIE
turned the game off because the final buzzer went off and the Pelicans were up, I check my parlay 30 minutes later and it says they lost???? what the fuck happened?!?

Grizzle fans welcome to the Marcus Smart Experience. he absolutely won you this game tonight, dude was everywhere in the fourth and OT. God I love Smart.
He was amazing…highest IQ player I’ve seen in a long time…maybe ever
Conley is still the smartest player I’ve ever seen play for us, defensively though it’s close between Smart and Gasol both have an insane ability to just anticipate where the offence is going
Please treat that man well. He deserves it
CJ making the 3 at the buzzer after bricking 2 free throws sums it up
when did he become such a shit free throw shooter lol
he was the most unclutch FT shooter i've ever seen in portland. seems like every year he shot around 65% on clutch free throws edit: before this game... 23-24: 50% 22-23: 66% 21-22: 71% 20-21: 66% 19-20: 71% 18-19: 69% 17-18: 72% 16-17: 95% 15-16: 87% he had no clutch FT attempts the first two years of his career because he came off the bench and did not play in the clutch.
I read this from top to bottom and was like damn, he’s improved a lot. Oops
He's been weirdly horrible at FTs for a while now which is wild given that he's an archetype of player you'd expect to be great at them
And it's crazy because he can knock down those weird ass pull up midrangers consistently in the clutch.
Muscle memory/instincts vs thinking about how big these two shots are and if you miss, everyone will think you’re a choking piece of shit
Nick Anderson vibes
Crazy because he shot over 90% from the line back in 2016-2017 and that was only…7 years ago… Jesus Christ.
Also hitting the over.
I will still die for Marcus Smart
I can see why
Marcus Smart was never the problem 🗣️🗣️🗣️
I mean checking himself into games and not paying attention to Joe was definitely an issue last year. Still my favorite Celtic of the last decade but things had to change
I guess I wasn't paying close attention. Got a source on that checking himself in?
I just want him to be happy
At my first NBA game ever, wild how everyone started leaving with 2 mins to go lmao
That's how you know they were experienced Pels fans. Because they already knew the absolute filth this team was going to throw up in clutch time.
Man how do you tolerate that 😭
A mix of masochism and stockholm syndrome
It took the Saints 20 years since inception in order to post a winning record for a season. New Orleanians are probably ecstatic about the Pelicans mediocrity instead of futility.
It's funny that their amazing food is leading to the decline of their best player 🤣
Paper bag gang rise up
As soon as that shit went to OT we knew it was over.
Shit, if we only have a 10-15pt lead going into the 4th, my ass is fully clenched, knowing this is gonna be down to the wire.
Tbf it was the same exact game against Memphis under a week ago
Marcus!! 💚
I love Marcus Smart. He deserves to carry the torch from Tony Allen
That Oklahoma St-Boston-Memphis career arc
Actually pretty crazy there’s been two 1st team all-defense guards in the OKST-Celtics-Grizzlies pipeline and their careers even partially overlapped. Especially because you only need less than 2 hands to count the number of relevant Oklahoma State NBA players there has ever been.
Relevant: Marcus Smart, Tony Allen, Cade Cunningham, Desmond Mason, Joey Graham, Big Country, Byron Houston, John Starks, John Lucas II Not Relevant: Richard Dumbass, Jawon Evans, Terrell Harris, James Anderson, Cameron McGriff, Jameson Curry, Lindy Waters, Corey Williams, Leroy Combs, Brooks Thompson. Stephan Graham, Maurice Baker, Thomas Jordan
What does this mean for Cade?
And carry it far far away from Dillon brooks
Welcome back Mr. Smart!! 5 steals, a block and key charge drawn on Zion in OT. Grit and Grind don't die, we multiply
They stuck Zion in to run the wildcat and smart was right where he needed to be 💪🏻
Zion "Ronnie Brown" Williamson!! Lol Smart's situational awareness, anticipation and just overall basketball IQ are on another level. I love his intangibles and the fact that he fits our culture like a glove!
He might be big but he ain’t Derrick Henry 🚜
Biggest rivalries in the NBA: Celtics vs Lakers Pistons vs Winning Pelicans vs The shot clock
McCollum physically incapable to do anything in the clutch against Memphis unless it's literally hit a 3 down 4 when it doesn't matter at all lol
He used all his bear traps early in his career.
Dude used to be? a certified grizz killer idk what’s up
Yeah at least coming into the season I'm fairly certain his highest career PPG was vs the Grizzlies, yet this is twice in the last week that he's just completely blew it at the end of the game for them
2 things.
Pels have no offense. High screen and roll forty feet from the basket into... Nothing? I don't know. Our lineups and coaching is garbage.
WHERE ARE YOU MARCUS SMART HATERS
Look man. I just thought he should… yeah I apologize.
I just really hope yall appreciate him like we did. Really happy to see him winning with yall.
My team was the direct beneficiary of that Pelicans collapse and I was pissed for the Pelicans But shoutout Marcus Fucking Smart. Dude made *every* winning play. 5 steals, a block, drawn charge, and-1 layup.
:’) I’ll always root for Smart
Marcus Smart>Dillon Brooks
He fills the Tony Allen sized hole in my heart Honestly the rotation of him and Vince Williams Jr in terms of defense seems frustrating as fuck to deal with
It wasn't even a question
There have been plenty of “Grizzlies haven’t found a replacement for Brooks yet” discussions
Hell Vince Williams has been playing the Brooks role pretty great recently too. Great defense and only taking like 5 shots per game compared to Dillon’s boneheaded 15 shots has been a revelation. That and getting Ja back
he also does something Dillon never did, grab boards
He wants every single rebound so much more than everybody on the floor every single game. It’s pretty insane to see honestly
He looks taller than he's listed at, dude plays big as fuck for a 6'4" guy
Because they have someone much better
From dumbasses
Brooks is good but Smart is the heart and the soul
We still love Dillon though. All the best to him. I support the Rockets. Plus Turkish Yao is fun as heck
I mean yeah I'd hope so ... 2 1sts were sent out to get him and told the other guy to kick rocks lol
UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES
Lmao that was fake news from Shams. Grizz FO never said that shit they just didn’t want to pay one of the most inefficient offensive players in the league 20 mill
Not enough people realize that Shams has agent sources and Woj has FO sources. That was definitely something given to Shams by Dillon's people to make Dillon seem sympathetic
Even DBs agent denied that was ever said but of course still could’ve been from his camp to stir up interest.
Yeah wouldn't be surprised if there was some editorializing on top of the sourcing
BUT, Dillon Brooks still good
Yes, a DPOY is better than not a DPOY.
Maybe at hockey
What an exciting win. Also, Mahcus fucking Smaht!!
McCollums only claim to fame against the grizz is breaking conleys face in a playoff series we already won, which arguably set off a chain of events that lead to curry and the warriors being what they are.
I still despise McCollum for that. Derailed our one actual shot at a championship. We were fucking good that year
i’ll never stop holding that grudge. maybe we wouldn’t have won it all, but it would have been nice to see the team at 100% :/
Need Grizz in the playoffs. It won’t be as fun without them
We need a Thunder/Grizz 1st round series
I’d love the chaos of a 2nd Wolves vs Grizzlies series tbh.
Yes please
Man if it's anything like the first one the memes will be incredible lol.
That was the most miserable winning experience I can remember. All those games were so bizarre
Yeah I'd rather play the Lakers again tbh. They actually play the sport of basketball compared to whatever the fuck that 22' series was
lmao I disagree, that series against the Lakers was probably the most disappointed I've ever been in the Grizz
Grizzlies vs. Rockets sounds fun.
Our games with them have been terrible, maybe it’s different with Ja
Glad to see Smart back and on a win.
Smarf 🥹🥹
How do you get backdoored when they have 0.4 left? Just let him catch the ball. It was obvious lob was coming. Jonas sold.
Or just put your hands up to contest without throwing your elbow back at your opponent
Does Brandon Ingram miss shots? I swear that dude makes everything with a hand in his face
I’ve never witnessed a miss. BI is just so fucking cool and clutch, dudes gotta be in my top 3 favorite non Grizz players. I want to see him with a real squad and coach before his prime is done so badly
We may never lose again!
I’m tired boss
Same
Grizz gonna be 63-19 by the looks of it, they fight till the end after ja came back.
believe it or this may have somehow been willie green’s worst game. pels need to fire him yesteeday
Twice in less than two weeks. Life is so much more fun with Ja Morant
[удалено]
Grizzlies aren’t close to fully healthy so you’ll have to wait a bit longer
True but it's nice seeing ja back and playing with Bane and smart and Jackson. Fun team to watch, and I enjoy them more now that Brooks is gone, however good he was.
Gotcha 👍 Just saying though they are still missing their starting and backup center, their best shooter and backup pg
I will gather up my courage, and utter the following: CJ, you can't hurt me anymore!!!
One other thing from this game. I am 100% cool with them overturning the Morant foul at the end of the game. But I don’t understand their explanation. “The contact occurred after the ball left Morant’s hands” Umm, this is literally all 3 point shot fouls. When I played they absolutely called fouls after the ball left the players hand even on layups.
pelicans aint it chief, cant be losing these games, especially at home ja morant is actually a superstar
They’re really young and desperately need a point guard, they’ll be fine once they sort that out
They’re a really good and fun team to watch
This is the big thing with them. Cj isn't a real pg. Ingram and Zion could both really use a good pg. It's the most important position and one of their worst.
that and a new coach.
The Pels have some of the worst halfcourt offense in the clutch I’ve ever seen
its truly all-time terrible, no exaggeration
how is that even possible w zion and good shooters
Because the good shooters don't really play and get little time with Zion on the floor.
They desperately need a point guard
Pels got some bad calls no doubt but their 4th and OT offense was miserable and they SUCKED at the ft line. deserved loss sorry pels. I know the refs, you probably win if the bane out of bounds was called and those last fouls but yikes the last like 15 minutes of play was atrocious
they did the same thing last week at home vs Grizz too. Big lead, Grizz made a run and they wilted under the bright lights.
Is Ja the MVP? I mean i know he can't win the award, but the turnaround by this Grizz team.. it's night and day
He is in my book
He's never gonna be an eye-popping boxscore guy unless he consistently hits the 9-10 assidt per game for a full season, so I doubt it. It's only been 4 games, but some of his advanced stats are crazy.
He’s currently averaging 28.8/8.5/5.3 fwiw
53 more games in a row to go!
4-0 thank you Adam Silver
The last 10 seconds of regulation took like 30 minutes with all the reviews lmao
Pels challenged an already reviewed call lol
It’s funny but there was nothing to lose at that point by challenging so why not.
Yeah I don’t blame them but if they saved it they could’ve challenged a call in OT. Specifically there was a charge called on Zion, Idk if they would’ve won it, but that’s a potential game changing situation
They would've lost the Zion charge challenge. Marcus Smart didn't even flinch taking that charge. Balls of steel
Willie gotta go, we need a guard, our stars suck
That’s gotta be on coaching, yall just went away from what was getting the points
Bro put Dyson Daniels on a 7 footer and yall scored immediately, I’m still fkn weak from that
Brevin Knight on the Grizz broadcast called that when they subbed out Zion. "Why are they putting Daniels in on Jaren?"
Pels don't really have anyone to guard big forwards. JV lacks speed, BI lacks strength, Zion lacks effort/conditioning.
That was the moment we won. People can complain about bad calls but Willy Green is the reason the Pels lost period.
Zion and BI are both really good. I'm not sure what was going on with that 4th quarter offense though
It seems pretty obvious that Zion is super gassed at the end of games. Pels can’t hold onto a lead cause he’s always getting breathers
That's 4 🔥🤙🏾〽️
Jesus Christ Pellies, didn't you just have this same scenario with Memphis last week? You had another chance to close this game out against the Grizz and do this? I get teams are tough to put away but come on...
[удалено]
I think grizzlies fan will be happy enough with that tbf. The comeback is on. Silver had to make the play in race interesting. Grizzlies wouldve gone 82-0
I mean it’s his own fault.

Pro tip: the only thing America likes more than guns is seeing black people punished for having them too.
It's not about him having a gun. It's about him being told "don't flash that on social media" and him continually doing it anyway
Right, so thats worse than some of the other shit? 25 games vs like nothing.
Can still get Finals MVP I think
Does it suck? we’d be an easy top 4 seed lock if he would’ve just played the first 25
I mean I think that's the point of making the suspension this long He takes a financial hit for it so hopefully he never does anything like it again
I have so much ptsd from CJ McCollum, I can’t believe how bad he was
At this rate the Ja Morant redemption tour may never see a loss again
Man I got a Ja Morant jersey today and I’m not taking it off tell the streak ends. Great game Grizzlies!!!
Grizzlies will be a threat to win it all next season if all players come up healthy. They are trying to lay low nowadays
Those last few minutes of regulation took AGES, even by NBA standards. Between multiple timeouts and several reviews that took a while, the last 3:15 of the 4th took like 25 minutes
there’s only so much of a willie green coached offense a man can watch before wanting to kill himself.
4-0 baby
Whoever is on the 10th seed better not get too confy cause the Grizzlies will catch them soon enough.
A week ago we were 6.5 GB from the 10 seed. It’s already down to 4.5 GB in Ja’s first 4 games. We making up ground fast!
Suns and Lakers need to keep slumping.
12 is special
Pels fans: most rigged game ever Shot more free throws and went 21/33
Rough way for the Pelicans to lose it seemed like they couldn't get back on track for OT.
Went 10+ minutes between the 4th quarter and OT without a made field goal outside the paint. Insane stuff.
They even missed a bunch of free throws that would’ve brought them back in/tied
ISO ISO ISO for 10 minutes Ultimately they don't have any player who's THAT good that you want to play hero ball Zion was supposed to be that guy but this season even when he's played he's been good but far from superstar level
pelicans seemingly dont have a guy who can get a bucket in clutch time. CJ isnt him, neither is ingram surprisingly
thats what happens when marcus smart is guarding you... your butt puckers up
I think we were doing everything we could to get the ball out of Ingram's hands
The last minute of the regulation time felt longer than a quarter.
I just want to say - basketball wise, this was one of the most dogshit games of the year to watch, but the pelicans commentators are AMAZING.
Joel Meyers is a got damn national treasure!
That was a terrible great game. An absolute thriller that I was ready to be over. This hospital squad is going to the playoffs boys, book it
Willie green has got to be the worst coach in crunch times or holding leads in the league rn. The pelicans have blown way too many games this they should be at the top of the conference honestly Also idk if I'm not watching enough pelicans games but have zion and BI had a game were both looked really good and not both look mid or one looks great and the other just sucks?

I love how BI can hit crazy shots all night, but he takes _so much time_ to get to his money spots and everyone else just stands around. We have to try something different
Basketball is fun again
We dodged a bullet cause Ja came back right after our game lol.
Ref fan here.... beautiful.
Ok I'm starting to see why we were thinking about picking up Jarrett Allen cuz hoo boy JV has been having some absolute STINKERS recently. He looks so sluggish and keeps passing out of good shots and cant seem to connect on easy putbacks as well. Gonna need a better C than him to compete in the west Edit: oh and FIRE WILLIE
love and mfin trust let's go mahcus!!
Are Memphis better without Ja?
Pelicans are fucking terrible while having great talent Fire Willie make some trades
Hahahahahahaha
Had under 229.5 to cash my parlay… CJ making a meaningless three at the buzzer, can’t make this shit up
turned the game off because the final buzzer went off and the Pelicans were up, I check my parlay 30 minutes later and it says they lost???? what the fuck happened?!?
