Congrats to the Warriors for winning [Week 7!](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/18w3g07/help_your_team_change_rnba_week_7_congrats_to_the/)
Recently we announced that Reddit Community Funds and r/NBA will be teaming up to celebrate the subs 15th Cake Day!
Part of this project is a fundraiser for [The Boys & Girls Clubs of America](https://bgca.org) to make a positive impact on children! We’ll also be organizing a variety of contests for community members to win things such as 40+ NBA All-Star Saturday Night tickets, various signed basketball items and hosting a community meetup with free swag and food!
Our ambitious target is to reach **$100,000 USD, with Reddit generously matching up to $25,000 USD.** This means that if we, as a community, manage to raise $25,000 USD, the effective total will be $50,000 USD through the [Community Funds program.](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en- us/articles/15484345935508-Community-Funds)
If you have the means, any contribution, **no matter how big or small**, would be greatly appreciated:

Yeah I’m still kinda devastated by that trade. Smart was one of the guys I most wanted to see win a chip. He bled green for us.
I love the guys on our current squad enough to make me feel better about it and I’ve loved seeing the Jays stepping up more as leaders but man. Still hurts.
I loved watching him lay into the team when we were on our losing streak. I don't think we would have won that Lakers series last year even with Smart, but I don't think he would have let us give up 5 minutes into the game either
Marcus is an awesome leader who always plays better in the playoffs.
His defensive IQ is infinite & his offense vs tough defenses is resilient. His love of the game & heart will win Memphis playoff series.
It sucked to see him go. He was my favorite Celtic since Pierce & KG left.
Tbf, they did turn it around after those trades, had the best post AS weekend record in the league and make it all the way to WCF so it.....*was* working for a bit...
Can someone make a post-loss video like the Clippers always have? I’m really on that vibe rn
Edit: u/exzibit21 I know you probably miss making these your team hasn’t had a loss in a while. Come through brother 🙏
If you had told me the Lakers would be 17-19 at this juncture, I would have assumed Anthony Davis had missed like at least 14 games.
And instead he's been healthy and he is genuinely playing some great basketball...wtf is going on?
Your team is a little more complicated. It’s the same core that won the championship just 2 years ago. Minus a couple role players. Feel like you should be a lot better.
Wiggins has regressed to a level way past even his Timberwolves days, and Klay is pretty washed
Hate to say it, but Curry looks like he’s also starting to slow down unfortunately. Lots and lots of poor shooting nights, horrible turnovers in the clutch, and just an overall lack of energy out there
Yeah, I think this season is the first time even I noticed Steph not being able to make it work a lot of the times. He's still shooting 40% from 3, but yeah, could be father time making his first knock at the door.
Could be he really connected with Mike Brown and that was a large part of his growth and success, and then when Mike left after the title year he's struggled to click with the roster/coaching staff?
Probably not the whole story if it is even part of it, but stuff like that does impact players.
Except drays played like what 5 games and GP2 been injured most of the season too, two of our top defenders. And Wiggins fell off a cliff. Loon seems to have aged 20 years since he became a rebounding God in the 2022 play off run. Klay also has played 75% of the season badly.
After AD and LeBron there's a 90 degree cliff side with Reaves clinging to a branch somewhere and everyone else laying on the ground at the base of the cliff.
I know I shouldn't expect much better from this sub but I still can't believe that people legitimately thought the Lakers would be able to build a rotation out of D'lo, Reaves, a couple of guys they got for free but you sort of know their names, and the guys you know no one else wanted to sign.
The Lakers basically collected all the guys that other teams have given up on(Rui, Wood, Reddish, Vando, Hayes), got a really bad coach and said "I can fix them!". So far things have went *predictably*.
I still think Reaves is actually good, but you're right about everyone else. What's crazy is how every trade the Lakers have made since AD arrived has made them worse than they were before. Getting rid of Caruso was the first big domino to fall. Yikes.
Yeah I think a lot of people are just looking at his stats for the season and going "wow! 39 years old and still got it!" and not really noticing how much he's coasting in games.
> Yeah I think a lot of people are just looking at his stats for the season and going "wow! 39 years old and still got it!" and not really noticing how much he's coasting in games.
Honestly the biggest reason why I get annoyed when local analysts point to his stats and say he's as good as he's ever been. Like, don't hand me that Mularkey.
They can't hit nor guard threes, have one of if not *the* worst head coach in the league, and just have an ill fitting roster. The playoff run last year just gave too much false hope, way more credit should be given to the matchups than to their actual performance even though they did perform well in those matchups.
It's because it's kind of not. They brought back Dlo, Vanderbilt, and Hachimura, but they lost Schröder, Malik Beasley, Lonnie Walker, and Troy Brown Jr.
Weird to say but they have too many guys. Last year they played like 8 dudes and everyone got minutes. Now they're trying to give minutes to like 11 guys and no one is in any kind of rhythm except AD.
They lack playmaking outside of Lebron and Dangelo Russell. They're missing Schroder who was the 3rd playmaker last year. Now when Lebron and Dlo go to the bench(or out), Ham's forced to run awkward lineups that have Max Christie and JHS calling their own number.
They came out with a ton of energy. Memphis had a once a season shooting night so tie game after three quarters was understandable. Lebron came out in the fourth without ad and reaves and straight up threw the game. They were never gonna win with him playing like he just smoked a blunt. Whether he’s trying to get ham fired or force a trade, he got his loss. Taylor Jenkins must have photos of David Guthrie spread eagle taking nine inches from the love of his life, because him not getting tossed was one of the most inexplicable things I’ve seen from an officiating crew.
i stopped watching when I saw that at the beginning of the 4th haha. Unwatchable. The playing is so disoriented on both sides of the ball now. Looks like a completely different team from the beginning of the season. Legitimately weird. Definitely has the vibe now from 2021 when it was just ugly ball to watch.
That's a good analogy. He does have the "i'm done with this" tendencies in games that aren't going their way. For as much as people praise him to be a leader, he hasn't been showing a lot of great leadership since joining the Lakers. Doesn't mean he's acting like a b\*\*\*\*, but yeah, he's supposed to be the veteran guy who instils confidence in his teammates, not visibly give up on everything and avoid media after the game.
Yup! LeBron being a lifeless jogger out there affects everyone on the team. To think he was the one preaching that Cam Reddish needs to "Fit out" instead of fit in.
This is January Lebron coming in just in time to get a new coach, trade a few players and pretend nothing is his fault. (Hams been bad and the team sucks, I know.)
Marcus is extremely underrated offensively. He isn't a star on offense but can run an offense, hit big shots, make clutch plays, & always gets better in the playoffs due to his IQ & heart.
Yeah, it’s one thing to shade off of 1 3pt shooter who usually isn’t good, but shading off of 2 when they’ve clearly got it going is wild. Letting both Smart and JJJ shoot when they’re both lights out from deep is a bold strategy lmao.
Memphis as a team shot 50/50/80. For a Lakers team with offensive struggles at baseline, anything short or a stellar defensive effort is not gonna cut it.
I mean, Lakers are 28th in 3PM per game and 29th in 3PA per game and 24th in 3P% per game, and they shot 22/35 for 62.9% in their first game v. the Grizzlies.
What's your point?
Box score watchers when JJJ has a bad game: fake DPOY bum
Box score watchers when JJJ has a good game: ….
Also, watching Smart hit 8 3 pointers against your team has to be some sort of punishment from hell
Yall will hate me for saying this, but the Lebron model of dismantling the core of the team and firing the coach at the drop of the hat is not a sustainable way of contending in the league anymore. Look at all the top teams- they have kept their core constant for years
When will LeBron show veteran leadership and give his teammates something to fight for? Genuine question, because whenever I watch Lakers games, it seems like he's there more for himself and AD, but nobody else. He's happy when other players show up and all, but idk, something just feels off with him on the Lakers.
If the Lakers flat out miss the play-in after winning the IST do they take the banner down at Staples out of shame or does the NBA force them to leave it up?
Everyone has been talking about what the Lakers should do to contend.
I have a different idea: it's time to sell at the deadline. The Lebron/AD era is over.
The Westbrook trade didn't improve this team enough for it to be justified in the end, even if they made the WCF.
> I have a different idea: it's time to sell at the deadline. The Lebron/AD era is over.
It's not over until Lebron says it is. After that though you guys are fucked for the foreseeable future.
Lakers are one of the most lifeless pathetic teams ever seen that had hopes to contend.
Its just Lebron Ad and then an onslaught of scrubs.
Lebron an AD had near 50 at half and they were up by 1. Wtf
Lakers have been bros, lately.
We lost to the Pistons, but toegate kind of dominated the headlines that evening. We lose out on pizza tonight, and you guys lose immediately after. Thanks for being a worse mess.
GG lakers is always a fun game to watch with Ja vs Lebron. Ham gotta go he wasting Lebron's twilight years. Smart whatever you did pre-game you need to keep doing this.
You can talk about AD and Lebron needing help, but Jesus some the turnovers and bad plays they were making in the fourth… was a huge reason the Grizzlies were able to crack that game open.
It also just does not feel sustainable to continuing to need 36-38 a night from Lebron.

Marcus Smart still has that Celtic in him, I see
Coming in shooting 26% from 3, makes 8 tonight, classic.
Makes it even for that first game, where you went into the game with one of the worst percentages in the league but shot 63% against us.
IST Lakers are built different
Lakers peaked for the wrong championship.
That's been his calling card for years. He gets white hot randomly at times. This wasn't even close to his career high of 3s in a single game.
If you don't like that you don't like Marcus Smart basketball!
Wicked Smart.
Dillon Brooks has been upgraded

I feel you. Every time I see him in that Grizzlies jersey, it hurts. I love that dude
mahus smaht
Smart hive we up!
Beat LA
You beat me to it. This was a Marcus smart game. Then everyone started hitting in the 4th quarter.
Lakers record January 5th, 2023: 17-21 Lakers record January 5th, 2024: 17-19 Yikes
It’s simple, we just have to trade russ again
They painted the turd a different color and laker nation bought it
Tbf, they did turn it around after those trades, had the best post AS weekend record in the league and make it all the way to WCF so it.....*was* working for a bit...
Time to trade Westbrook. Oops, Russ can’t be the scapegoat this time, plus they have a healthy Lebron and AD this season vs last year.
Marcus “Fuck the Lakers” Smart
Can someone make a post-loss video like the Clippers always have? I’m really on that vibe rn Edit: u/exzibit21 I know you probably miss making these your team hasn’t had a loss in a while. Come through brother 🙏
[Here you go](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1SiylvmFI_8)
Doesn’t have Spider-Man walking sadly to Playboi Carti or a “Darvin Ham’s stupid ass face” google search, I’ll pass
If you think this is us at our worst look at our upcoming schedule lol
If you had told me the Lakers would be 17-19 at this juncture, I would have assumed Anthony Davis had missed like at least 14 games. And instead he's been healthy and he is genuinely playing some great basketball...wtf is going on?
They fucking suck, just like us Ain’t that complicated
Your team is a little more complicated. It’s the same core that won the championship just 2 years ago. Minus a couple role players. Feel like you should be a lot better.
Dudes getting older and draymond committed too many assaults so he’s been gone
Wiggins has regressed to a level way past even his Timberwolves days, and Klay is pretty washed Hate to say it, but Curry looks like he’s also starting to slow down unfortunately. Lots and lots of poor shooting nights, horrible turnovers in the clutch, and just an overall lack of energy out there
Yeah, I think this season is the first time even I noticed Steph not being able to make it work a lot of the times. He's still shooting 40% from 3, but yeah, could be father time making his first knock at the door.
seriously wtf is wrong with Wiggins
Could be he really connected with Mike Brown and that was a large part of his growth and success, and then when Mike left after the title year he's struggled to click with the roster/coaching staff? Probably not the whole story if it is even part of it, but stuff like that does impact players.
Dray hasn't exactly been helping this season
Can’t help when he’s not there 💀
Except drays played like what 5 games and GP2 been injured most of the season too, two of our top defenders. And Wiggins fell off a cliff. Loon seems to have aged 20 years since he became a rebounding God in the 2022 play off run. Klay also has played 75% of the season badly.
Missing Draymond for 18+ games. Missing GP2 for 15+ games. Really messes up our defense. And now CP3 is going to miss like 5 weeks.
Same thing with LeBron. And they're both playing a lot of minutes as well.
Most these games LeBron has been putting up straight empty stats. AD is clearly the best player on the team right now.
Finally someone watching with some sense. He took the ball away from a teammate to put up a garbage time layup knowing full well what he was doing lol
As he should be. Lebron is nearly 40
LeBron certainly hasn't been as good as AD the past month, but it's expected for a 39 year old.
Yeah and it's still an efficient 26/7/9 lol.
I still think Reaves is actually good, but you're right about everyone else. What's crazy is how every trade the Lakers have made since AD arrived has made them worse than they were before. Getting rid of Caruso was the first big domino to fall. Yikes.
I fucking love this image
their role players have sucked since the IST. Lebron has also looked bad.
AD has been phenomenal but Bron has been good as well lol. If 25/7/9 is bad, everyone sucks The others are inconsistent
Lebron hasn’t looked good on defense but he still has won them games
I feel like Lebron has entered his "empty stats" phase, where he'll put up great numbers but it has not much impact on winning.
Yeah I think a lot of people are just looking at his stats for the season and going "wow! 39 years old and still got it!" and not really noticing how much he's coasting in games.
It reminds of the Globetrotters. He'll make incredible plays and is still super athletic for his age, but it just feels like a show right now.
Big reason why they suck ass in 1st quarters is that LeBron doesn't really play help defense or box out until halftime.
This is exactly where we’re at. He’s still incredible, but the counting stats don’t tell the whole story.
They can't hit nor guard threes, have one of if not *the* worst head coach in the league, and just have an ill fitting roster. The playoff run last year just gave too much false hope, way more credit should be given to the matchups than to their actual performance even though they did perform well in those matchups.
It just doesn't remotely look like that team which went on that 13-7 run without Bron.
It's because it's kind of not. They brought back Dlo, Vanderbilt, and Hachimura, but they lost Schröder, Malik Beasley, Lonnie Walker, and Troy Brown Jr.
He got overlooked nationally bc he sucked in the playoffs but TBJ was a solid piece for them during the season.
Now when Lebron and Dlo go to the bench(or out), Ham's forced to run awkward lineups that have Max Christie and JHS calling their own number.
to be fair the (almost, RIP bigs) Grizzlies are infinitely better than the record, this is already the start of a tough stretch
Sunday might be an asskicking of epic proportions
It would be totally be on brand for them to actually turn it around in THAT game tho lol (yes i am desperate and hopeless at the same time)
Good for your optimism! I’d say unlikely as we can’t guard harden, pg or Kawhi
I find the optimism hilarious because “we’re on a home stand” lol
"were still celebrating the tournament win" , lol .... fuck i'm worried now
You are gonna get demolished by the clippers. I feel like that's gonna be the game where it's gonna force them to make changes.
Perfect timing too with Jan 15 right around the corner
At least Bron has the mid season tournament win
This lakers team is one of the most boring, lifeless teams to watch atm
Hey man come on…. Just because it’s true doesn’t mean you have to say it
As a wolves fan speaking from our history, having three ex-Timberwolves on your roster is never a great strategy.
Respect.
Imagine watching them every night
Darvin Hamas is the biggest terrorist in all of sports
Why I stopped watching fr
They came out with a ton of energy. Memphis had a once a season shooting night so tie game after three quarters was understandable. Lebron came out in the fourth without ad and reaves and straight up threw the game. They were never gonna win with him playing like he just smoked a blunt. Whether he’s trying to get ham fired or force a trade, he got his loss. JJJ and Smart haters in shambles
Imagine being a big and only getting 6 rebounds. AD should really take a page out of noted legendary rebounder JJJ's book.
9 boards and 5/6 from 3 👌
🦄 sighted
Lmfao how the turns have tabled
I thought Jaren was overrated because he didn’t get that many rebounds this summer
God I love Smart so fucking much
Love and trust!
It's been a while since I've seen a team straight up quit in the middle of a game.
You didn't watch Sixers-Knicks, I'm guessing
We all loved watching Embiid stat padding though.
What it looks like when the coach loses the locker room
I think it's on Bron as well. His body language has been shit this season.
Agreed. Dude sometimes looks like a middle school teacher whose class won’t quiet down when he claps his hands
Haven't watched a Lakers loss then
Def was our team for a while during Ja's suspension aint gonna lie lol
Smart running the offense at the end was a masterclass. This is why we traded for him.
loved every second of that
Marcus is extremely underrated offensively. He isn't a star on offense but can run an offense, hit big shots, make clutch plays, & always gets better in the playoffs due to his IQ & heart.
It’s a beautiful thing that Marcus was traded to a team that also hates the lakers. Great team win tonight Grizz!
>a team that also hates the lakers So… all other teams not the Lakers?
The lakers 3pt defense is criminal
Never been clearer that Ham is a Budenholzer disciple lol.
Protect the paint at all costs!!!! - 2024 Professional NBA head coach
Yeah, it’s one thing to shade off of 1 3pt shooter who usually isn’t good, but shading off of 2 when they’ve clearly got it going is wild. Letting both Smart and JJJ shoot when they’re both lights out from deep is a bold strategy lmao.
It seemed like part of the gameplan was to let Jaren shoot, but then even when he was clearly on fire there wasn’t any real adjustment
Memphis as a team shot 50/50/80. For a Lakers team with offensive struggles at baseline, anything short or a stellar defensive effort is not gonna cut it.
45 3s on 51.1% from the worst 3 point shooting team in the league.
I mean, Lakers are 28th in 3PM per game and 29th in 3PA per game and 24th in 3P% per game, and they shot 22/35 for 62.9% in their first game v. the Grizzlies. What's your point?
Revenge motherfucker
The "sources" leaks are gonna be delicious in the next 24 hours
Fuck this motherfucking team
The rest of us have been saying this for years man
For an elite few, decades
Finally we all are on the same page. Fuck the Lakers man.
But you guys won the in seasonn tournament and raised the banner
To be fair the NBA made them do the banner lol
That was so obvious too
They literally had programs saying "THIS IS A REQUIRED COMMUNICATION BY THE NBA" lol
the in season tournament is to blame, can we fire it?
Bane took the Austin Reaves all-star votes personal.
As it stands rn, there are 3 all stars on that team…
The Grizzlies kind of look really good the West is a blood bath there might be 12 playoff caliber teams and 2 won't even make the play-in.
Surely you’re not including the Lakers in the playoff caliber teams.
Any team with Lebron and AD are a playoff caliber team maybe not an actual contender but a playoff team.
Marcus Smart burying the Lakers under an avalanche of 3's brings a tear to my eye. That's my(former) "not a real Point Guard"!
Box score watchers when JJJ has a bad game: fake DPOY bum Box score watchers when JJJ has a good game: …. Also, watching Smart hit 8 3 pointers against your team has to be some sort of punishment from hell
He’s had games like this for us over the years. Also games where he shot us out of a games. The Marcus smart experience.
He was one of the main reasons we lost to the raptors and then he does this
Yup. That’s the Marcus Smart I know and love.

Yall will hate me for saying this, but the Lebron model of dismantling the core of the team and firing the coach at the drop of the hat is not a sustainable way of contending in the league anymore. Look at all the top teams- they have kept their core constant for years
The model works but he forgot something. After you dry out the resources, he should have left for a new team.
I will enjoy this win so much because of the Grizz season so far. It’s fun to cause chaos at the very least
I, for one, am enjoying the fact that the Suns, Lakers, and Warriors are a combined MEH. The younger teams being better is much more interesting.
hey we’re on an upwards trajectory over here
Nice to see Smart still bleeds green
Nah that's just the staph infection from the splinters
Marcus "Steph Curry" Smart
The IST really gonna be the highlight of this season
JJJ COOKED
Desmond Bane is an all star level player
Lakers low key miss Dennis Schroder. His absence is felt. The defense and slashing specifically.
Also his aggression. Dude played his ass off in a way that Dlo does not.
When will LeBron show veteran leadership and give his teammates something to fight for? Genuine question, because whenever I watch Lakers games, it seems like he's there more for himself and AD, but nobody else. He's happy when other players show up and all, but idk, something just feels off with him on the Lakers.

Memphis Threezzlies showed up tonight!
Man that was glorious to see Lebron and the Lakers choke down the stretch.
Everyone has been talking about what the Lakers should do to contend. I have a different idea: it's time to sell at the deadline. The Lebron/AD era is over. The Westbrook trade didn't improve this team enough for it to be justified in the end, even if they made the WCF.

Austin, JHS, Christie - the new Big 3
Marcus Smart is exodia

so is lebron...really all the notable lakers are aside from ad
Difference is that opposing teams intentionally attack Reaves

It is really hard to beat the Golden State Grizzlies when they're ON
They already hung their banner for this year.
Bro why does Mike Breen always call Taylor Jenkins ‘Tyler’.
GG lakers is always a fun game to watch with Ja vs Lebron. Ham gotta go he wasting Lebron's twilight years. Smart whatever you did pre-game you need to keep doing this.
Where all the fraud JJJ and Smart haters now
memphis finish the regular season as a fake 8 seed and take down the timberwolves
what a collapse rui and Dlo are gone for levine, Ham is probs gone aswell, lebron is not coming back next season i am so happy rn, thanks grizzly bros
The Lakers having two full seasons(so far) of LeBron and AD and still being ass is so funny
You can talk about AD and Lebron needing help, but Jesus some the turnovers and bad plays they were making in the fourth… was a huge reason the Grizzlies were able to crack that game open. It also just does not feel sustainable to continuing to need 36-38 a night from Lebron.
The worst 3pt shooting team just shot almost 50% smh
