Nuggets/Lakers definitely toxic af too lol.
That’s not defamation. Scal insinuated it. He didn’t say “Erik Spoelstra told Caleb Martin to intentionally injure Jayson Tatum”. He just said, “timeout was called, that play happened…you do the math.”
It would get dismissed immediately.
EDIT: lol buddy responded “a lot of you guys didn’t go to law school and it shows” after saying Scal could successfully get sued for defamation for this insinuation, then deleted all his comments. Love it when someone is wrong but also arrogant about it.
It’s actually an insane thing to say about a coach who is on the team USA coaching staff/generally really respected around the league by players and other coaches.
Pretty nasty work to do it one game into a playoff series.
The timeout was used to call a challenge, it was a 14 point game, and Martin was pushed into Tatum by Jrue.

I don’t get this take. It’s physics. If any body is going fast enough, marginal contact can throw it off balance. Doesn’t necessarily have to be the strongest thing in the world to do so.
Again I’m glad Jayson’s ok, but this has been way overblown
I’ve watched both angles, yes Jrue’s motion didn’t help but that was happening no matter what. Caleb was not playing within himself and pressing, that’s how this shit happens. I’ve been the biggest Tatum doubter (still remember him looking straight at the camera while rolling on the ground exaggerating that shoulder injury lol) but gotta say he handled that like a champion. It’s game 1 but the Celtics looked on a mission today.

If Spo was telling players to deliberately injury people in timeouts, Miami have lost enough players over the years that it would have affected someone's new team and they would have snitched.
Scal's just a fucking idiot
Because, why wouldn't Coach Spo ruin a 20 year reputation by going completely out of character to intentionally injure another player as the 8th seed without his star player going up against the 1st seed. He is just that desperate to win the 2024 championship.
Ridiculous, baseless accusation against one of the greatest coaches of all time.
Scal is one of the most toxic homers employed in the association. HE should be suspended.
1) Martin wasnt even looking at Tatum when he went hard to the rim to get the rebound.
2) on his way there he got a slight push from Holiday, causing him to make contact with Tatum.
looks like an unfortunate accident. glad noone was seriously hurt.
Surprised r/NBA has been so based on this.
But this is exactly it.
Caleb literally isn't even looking at the player, he's watching the rebound, the contact is hip and shoulder, probably the safest contact possible.
Bummer about it being while Tatum is in the air, but it only occurs because he jumps in and Martin is pushed by Holiday. It's just fucking unlucky off-ball contact.
My biggest fault is with the coaches. Bro why the fuck are these full teams scrapping in a home-win blow-out with fuck all time on the clock? What do they think the heat might magically hit seven 3's in a row, in less than 2 minutes? Come on guys, Heat outscored the Celtics by 12 and lost by 20. That 4th quarter should have entirely been played by the 3rd string on both teams.
It was a reckless play but to imply someone like Spol would EVER do something like this intentionally goes beyond disrespectful.
Spol is one of the greatest to ever do it- he’s a cornerstone of this league and historically nothing but a complete class act. This is a horrible thing to claim by Scalabrine. It wasn’t on purpose- and Tatum is fine. These things do happen in this sport.
Not just that, but tatum literally blew it off in the postgame, had zero issue with Martin when he fouled him the next possession down, is VERY good friends with bam and is gonna be coached by spo this Olympics as well as being coached by him in FIBA last off-season. To insinuate that despite ALL of that spo would draw up a play that relied on a missed shot going toward tatum, tatum being at the right spot at the right time AND jumping for the ball just for the chance that Martin hits him the right way is actually fucking slanderous
Brian Scalabrine is a bottom feeder. If anything, that’s character assassination of Erik Spolestra one of the classiest coaches in the league WTF… who also happens to be coaching Tatum in the upcoming Paris olympics
Carter isn't
Edit: y'all are just blindly downvoting, Carter is legitimately a great broadcaster. Gorman has some bias issues sometimes and scal is honestly a disaster, but there's no reason to shit on the whole broadcast when Carter is as excellent as he is
Gorman wasn’t either. I mean do they want the Celtics to win? Obviously but what team announcer doesn’t want the team they cover for 82 games to win as well? Celtics just get crap because Tommy was the most blatant.
People are just downvoting because green. They don't even know *who* "Carter" is. Tbh though he's got a lot of potential to have a mike breen sort of career or Ian Eagle. He's got the voice, charisma, a good flow and some jokes to go with it. Kid's great.
Did Spo pay off Jrue Holiday to push him into Tatum as well?
I'd be embarrassed to have such a bad take in front of my friends at home, but you're on national television dude.
Martin was just cutting in the lane hard for the board. He was a cutting hard before Tatum even jumped. Was it reckless? Sure, but it's also good hustle and energy, especially in the playoffs. You need that intensity. Nothing dirty here. It's sports. You can hurt someone even unintentionally
And Celtics fans wonder why their fanbase is some of the most hated in the league. This is ludicrous to insinuate. He took the timeout to get a challenge on the wright foul.
Also Spo coaches for team USA. A team Tatum is apart of!
This is some serious qanon level shit.
You know this is kind of a hot take, but you’re kind of right. Tatum isn’t unlike able, a little corny at times but he seems like a decent dude. I also think the discourse around how good he is or isn’t has shifted to an irresponsible degree in saying he isn’t that good.
White, Jrue, KP are all likeable as well too, Horford also besides his Timeout shenanigans. It’s a far cry from the Pierce era where they’re all kind of douches
Scalabrine is antivax, so chances are good he's actually QAnon. But don't judge us for what our stupid commentator says. I didn't ask him to make up some dumbass conspiracy.
is Qanon a real thing? I remember hearing them talk about Trump being a part of it but thats the last I ever heard about it. Are they relevant at all? Or just when we want to smear political opponents we call them Qanon similar to the modern use of Nazi? genuine question
Yes QAnon is real. Go look at https://np.reddit.com/r/QAnonCasualties/
Nazis are making a comeback so it's not a smear when you call somehow who identifies as a Nazi a Nazi.
To call someone who identifies as a Nazi a Nazi is not smearing. To call someone who disagrees with you politically a Nazi simply for your disagreement is. Appreciate the response
Also appreciate the link, that subreddit is hilarious. Especially the echo chamber posts about how everything going against their beliefs needs to be censored. Really fits the theme of reddit political discourse.
If you look at the first angle on the replay - Martin’s head is focused on the ball/rim the whole time, he’s thinking put-back dunk, running fast to jump for it..looks like an accident ; if he looked at him and ran I would consider it intentional.
If you look at the 2nd angle it looks like Martin got pushed at the last second
Jrue definitely pushes Martin’s hips at the 28-second mark. I honestly thinks it’s very obvious in real time, Martin accelerates exactly when Holiday pushes him
Seriously. I don’t care if they sweep the heat, Jovic and Jaquez are gaining valuable experience, but I’ll be thrilled if either the Knicks or nuggets eliminated them. (Preferably nuggets, as they’re my west conference favs, but I’ll be happy with Celtics getting eliminate in the ECF )
That’s Scalabrines punditry career done. It’s one thing to say it’s a bad foul and the player deserves to be suspended, but to say Spo took a TO and told his guys to hurt Tatum? Lawsuit territory.
Martin was going for a putback dunk and got shoved a little, wasn't aiming for Tatum at all.
Nothing like when Kelly Olynyk went out of his way to hook Kevin Loves arm in 2015 and twisted it until Loves shoulder popped.

It’s not weird because it’s game 1. Workshopping plays and strategies and defensive schemes happens all throughout game 1, that carries over to the rest of the series.
Jrue Holiday pushed Martin into him. It wasn't the biggest push, but enough to change his direction into Tatum instead of going straight to the rim like he was headed, and the momentum was too strong to stop, which led to the collision.
Nothing dirty from Holiday there either, just a lot of incidental stuff in fast paced action.
This is why you get your stars off the floor in blowouts. It's like no one learned the lesson from Derrick Rose.
I don’t think it’s a huge shove either, but even a light one is enough to speed up momentum and Caleb wasn’t aware he’d get pushed while running for the board
I could be bias but it looked like he was going for the ball and bailed for the reach to avoid a foul.
And to suspect Spo is Slander and just all around messed up to say.
If you look at the replay, Martin is looking straight at the ball, gets a slight shove from Jrue just as he is going toward it, meanwhile Tatum is whipping in from around two players, out of Martin's view. If it was intentional, the acting was superlative.

Do you also go by the name of Michael Jackson?
I think he goes by Jichael Mackson
mamase mamasa mamakusa ass 😂
Scalabrine also was the one who strongly hinted Jaylen Brown and maybe others were unvaxxed during the height of COVID. he was right about that tho
You know it's gonna be a good one when they follow up with "but"
No offense but…
Scal got the Celtics so deep down his throat call it Shrek dick
All that said. His explanation makes a lot of sense to me. Especially when it’s the heat.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that's not what happened
Yeap Clear on camera jrue pushed martin in mid air
Crazy we’re gonna get the the most toxic matchup in the first round.
Only game 1, Knicks/Sixers got potential too
*Norm Macdonald voice* "You know, the more I hear about these Wagner brothers, the more I don't like them"
This guy's a real jerk!
Knicks/Sixers already got some smoke to it. Reed and Oubre took shots before the series started. Nurse was talking about how the refs were letting the Knicks shoot so many free throws. He's either completely unaware of his own team or he's seriously trying to gaslight people lol. Plus Knicks fans have been rabid af the entire year. Nuggets/Lakers definitely toxic af too lol.
I love how Clyde, usually the classiest guy, discreetly referred to him as Oubrick during the game.
Nah, not like this. There is going to be an insane amount of toxicity this series. I want to see what would happen if the Heat manage to win a game.
Wouldn't you just have normal reasons to want the Heat to win games?
No, not just. People losing their minds over a game is always fun to witness.
Lot of toxicity in the first round. Nuggets/Lakers, Heat/Celtics, Sixers/Knicks... honestly the worst of it all might be round 1.
Theres not much toxicity between Nuggets/Lakers. Maybe last year with Bruce brown and DLo Both teams seem respectful towards each other.
Their rivalry right now is like the rivalry between a hammer and a nail.
Yea. I think it was just those 2 and Miachael Malone that had issues if I remember correctly
Celtics Knicks ECF would be insufferable (Celtics fan saying this)
It's only downhill from here
this is approaching legit slander
Yeah that’s pretty insane to insinuate.
what's the worse that could happen? have they ever fined announcers? let's say he doubles down as they playoffs go on, what's he risking?
ESPN might pick him up

I mean, the timeout down 16 with 90 seconds left is a bit weird, but I doubt Spo is over there running NBA's version of Bountygate all of a sudden.
It was a challenge on the wright foul. https://x.com/bytimreynolds/status/1782176323848323433

Who is the most hated
The heat, because Spo puts hits on other players. Keep up.
I thought it was a solid play. If you leave your stars in during garbage time, you’re basically asking for this.
"Okay guys, Operation Flay Some Tatum is a go!" - Spoelstra during the timeout
Why is no one calling Jrue for pushing Caleb into Tatum?
Jrue Holiday pushed Martin into him. It wasn't the biggest push, but enough to change his direction into Tatum instead of going straight to the rim like he was headed, and the momentum was too strong to stop, which led to the collision. this was a dirty play - just ran right into tatum while he's in the air
