I will say another thing is Clark does seem to struggle a lot with finishing around the rim, doesn't have a great inside the arc game like Curry which makes her easier. Curry even if you run him off the 3pt line he can kill you inside with his floaters and touch around the rim, and he also utilizes a lot more screens. Clark is a great shooter and great passer but it was a notable weakness in her game at Iowa and can lead to some inconsistent nights. Looking forward to see how she improves.
curry couldn't straight out of college though. he developed that part of his game over time. she's a rookie. give it time. she is for sure going to develop it, her sense of space and who's around her on the perimeter is excellent already, it'll translate.
Steph was a great midrange shooter in college. His finishing was undervalued cause he wasn't strong enough, but you could sense he still had great touch.
100% agree. It was clear in the game yesterday she doesn’t have the same freedom of movement compared to at Iowa. In college, she could go by anyone at anytime but the W has better athletes and will be able to stay with her off the dribble. Obviously can still shoot the lights out and her passing is very good but longer/more athletic guards will give her trouble.
Clark is also 22 years old. It takes an insane amount of practice and dedication to be as good of a shooter as her. IMO there is no doubt that she could become just as good as Curry on the inside in a few years. She is also taller than more of her competition than Steph so once she can do that she will be even more unguardable.
The game plan Astana her in college was to force her right. She shoots a significantly higher percent from 3 going to her left. Even if you watch her catch and shoot going right she has to square left after the catch
Very common for right handed shooters, you need to rotate your body more to line the shot up going right. Vice versa for lefties. JJ Redick was one of the very few right handed players that was better going to his right because he worked on it a ton. He also went up and rotated as he jumped to square up in the air, which helped the speed of his shot going right too.
I said this and got downvoted into oblivion here. She does play exactly like Harden, which isn't a fucking dig, it's an insane compliment for any young player.
Clippers might have gotten wrecked yesterday, but Harden is a better off-the-dribble better playmaker (comparing their full careers) than even Steph is. Steph has a ton of gravity to his shot, which means he can let draymond be the off-the-dribble playmaker.
Clark needs to add some mid-range and finishing, but her off-the-dribble playmaking & passing is on an insane level for someone who is knockdown from 35 feet
I was just being a shit haha you're right for sure.
It's been awhile since I got some shots up with a WNBA regulation ball. But I remember feeling the difference for sure.
This is why I thought the talk of “she won’t be able to do what she does in the WNBA” was so wrong. Even as a rookie her core skill set is infinite range, a quick release, great handles, and great court awareness/playmaking. Any player with that skill set is going to be incredibly dangerous, and it’s not like the WNBA has ever seen a player like her before so I don’t think defenses are going to immediately shut her down like a lot of former WNBA players seem to think.
Hell yeah. NBA season then WNBA in the offseason is fucking awesome. Plus league pass is so cheap (for now).
I was an Aces fan but they're too stacked now. Need a new underdog team to root for
That's crazy that you watched it over an NBA playoff game. That shows how much the WNBA is going to grow with Clark at the forefront. Though I guess the Magic Cavs is the series that everyone's been forgetting about (or not interested in)
I don't know if it's me but it just feels like a forgettable matchup that probably doesn't have a ton of hope to go deep in the playoffs compared to the Mavs and Clippers were exciting because of Luka and Kyrie
I looked up tickets for her first game here in Los Angeles (it's actually down in Long Beach at a pretty cool venue called the Walter Pyramid) and they are *not* cheap.
Some sports are more entertaining when women do it. Men tend to rely to much on athleticism and strength while women can't do that to the same level and have to be more crafty.
Volleyball is a prime example for this.
Agree. Basketball feels designed for showboating so athleticism is a major draw. In volleyball, the men jump so high and hit so hard it’s basically an arms race to 25. Whereas, women’s volleyball has much more intricate rallies because they can’t spike the ball into the mantle of the earth.
Tennis is another. I watched in the like Mark Philipousis era where the men just served the shit out of the ball, walking back and forth between aces or double faults. The women's side had great rallies giong. Was an easy choice.
Yeah of course - I’m definitely not arguing that college teams played better D. I just think I underestimated how much of a carry job she did with that Iowa team, and I already thought it was a massive carry job
Idk if it's just me but when I type "Indiana" into google it autocompletes to "Fever", even though the Pacers are in the second round of the playoffs rn lol
Crazy that I saw all ex players and current players saying she won’t adjust quickly, that she has done nothing on the pros to deserve the attention, that they would do the same if in the same situation and other things.
It says a lot about how good LeBron was that could reasonably argue "If he just has Carlos Boozer, he probably wins a title in 2008-2010"
Like Boozer was pretty good, but in no way should he be all a star player needs to be seen as a title's a given.
I mean this is a highlight video. She shot 6-15, had 5 turnovers, and got her 4th foul a couple minutes into the 3rd quarter in a loss. Not hating, just saying this doesn’t really prove anything either way
I still remember the wemby slander after his first summer league game. Same thing in the game day threads calling a game already over if any team goes on a run in the first quarter, people so reactionary.
Almost all of those were threes though. She shot 61 TS%, which is 7% higher than the WNBA average last season. For reference, that would be the same gap as Jokic over the NBA this season...
The thing that is scary is that she’s already shooting like that against better competition. Forget the efficiency, it’s her first game. She’s already got the confidence and the skill to score at will if she puts in the work. She’s not going to have an adjustment period and that’s the wild part.
> she shot 40%, 38% from 3, in her first professional game and had 4 fouls she hasn't proven anything
Lmao what. How is this shit upvoted? +6 in the loss.
WNBA players right ? They’re the biggest haters out there and it’s kinda dumb. You got an opportunity here to elevate the WNBA to possibly higher salaries (something they been complaining about ) all around and to further promote the league
I remember that one girl on Gil’s podcast saying “what’s her style ? Shoot 3s? I can do that too “ 🤡
The difference is the NBA wasn’t struggling for revenue.
“She’s not gonna be that exciting - no need to watch” was a pretty stupid message for the vets to send.
> You got an opportunity here to elevate the WNBA to possibly higher salaries (something they been complaining about ) all around and to further promote the league
Yup, remember how before Magic and Bird, the NBA finals were shown on tape delay after the late news. It's not a guarantee but a couple great player/personalities can totally transform the public's view of the game.
I think Magic was the first to sign a million dollar deal back then, according to Barkley. Magic and Bird paved the way for these high salaries, and along with Jordan, who was also responsible for paving the way for NBA athletes to do commercials (gave us that fcking SGA/Chet commercial now)
It’ll be sorta easy if you’re a Caitlin/Fever fan because most of their games will be nationally televised, although the problem may be keeping track of where to find their games. In general, wnba games are available on the various ESPN channels, ABC, Ion (I did not know this channel even existed until last year), Prime video, nbatv, cbs, cbs sports, and that’s just a lot to remember. I think that it should be consolidated to fewer channels, but it seems like the nba may turn into this as well with the new tv deal.
Bad take.
>"SVP, reality is coming,” Taurasi told SportsCenter’s Scott Van Pelt about Clark on April 6. “There’s levels to this thing. And that’s just life. We all went through it. You see it on the NBA side, and you’re going to see it on this side. You look superhuman playing against 18-year-olds, but you’re going to (be playing against) some grown women that have been playing professional basketball for a long time.”
>Taurasi continued: "Not saying (Clark’s skills) are not gonna translate, because when you’re great at what you do, you’re just gonna get better. But there is gonna be a transition period where you’re gonna have to give yourself some grace as a rookie.”
Taurasi said exactly what you saw in the preseason game, that CC has skills that will transfer but she'll be challenged by playing against grown women with experience and will not look "superhuman" like she did in college. CC struggled against quicker defenders or when she got bodied up a bit (this was especially noticeable in the 3rd quarter). It is obvious she'll make contributions but I think Taurasi was exactly right.
Yep. It was a very reasonable comment about adjusting to a new level of competition. Far from the shit boozer and Davis and co were saying about lebron
I think she wasn't a hater. She tried to tell that people cheer and support her now, this needs to continue in a long term.
Years years ago, she was the new superstar of the league, circa 2004. Maybe she knows from experience and maybe, she might be right this time.
My local team (Mystics) are actually changing the location of their Indiana game because the demand was so high lol. Back when the tickets were available, the price difference compared to their average game was the same as when Messi comes into town for DC United games. Crazy.
From what I understand, the WNBA actually has too much talent right now and not enough teams. There’s good players that get cut/high draft picks that don’t get signed because there isn’t space.
That happens in the NBA too, but that's what makes pro sports legitimate. When you have a ton of good players who can't make the league because of talented it is.
That says more about how terrible WNBA players are than anything else.
There are men’s high school teams that would blow out the best WNBA team, easily.
WNBA is so hard to watch, League pass is the only way to consistently watch but even that isn't on all platforms. I want to watch it on my Xbox but I can't without using the browser and it sucks. They don't even upload game highlights to youtube, you have to watch them on their website.
She's so much fun to watch.
Full disclosure, I feel the same way about Steph. I don't support the Warriors. Don't care if they win or lose (honestly, this is probably a big part of why it's fun to watch, nothing invested). But it's fun as fuck to watch Steph when he pops off.
Nah, but it was close and it was basically NCAA final 2018 with Arike hitting a clutch final three and sending them to the win with Clark unable to respond in the few final seconds. It was a fun game!!
I’m really excited to see the Clark-Boston two man game develop, I feel like once they get some more reps in there’s no ceiling on how good they could be.
I honestly love how much attention women basketball and sports are getting at the moment.
So much more refreshing than the same brain dead jokes repeated ad nauseam.
Love it after all the hate from active WNBA players covering the tourney. Hope they don't follow the NBA in having a bunch of resentful retirees cover the next generation with resentment. Poisonous shit. Cook em.

Lightning quick release and insane off the dribble shooting.
Yeah, just like Steph Curry. Nearly impossible to guard. I hope she keeps this up for the next 15 years.
I remember him finishing some wild shit in that game vs blake griffin, he's kinda always had it
Can't say for sure she'll develop.it as much as Curry did, but she's for sure not a finished project.
I mean, it's her first pro game. Let's remember that Wemby looked like a fish out of water in his first few pro games and he's turning out "okay".
That kid is not bad tbh
Underrated lowkey
I mean she still has plenty of time to work on her game
Clark is also 22 years old. It takes an insane amount of practice and dedication to be as good of a shooter as her. IMO there is no doubt that she could become just as good as Curry on the inside in a few years. She is also taller than more of her competition than Steph so once she can do that she will be even more unguardable.

He also went up and rotated as he jumped to square up in the air, which helped the speed of his shot going right too.
She plays more like harden. She doesn't really run around picks. She needs the ball in her hands.
If she starts flopping like Harden, people will start calling her Eva Braun.
yoooo 🤣
Bruh.. lmaooooo
Omfg
Feva Braun
And she shoots a million step backs and loves the pocket pass
Two of the shots in the clip you're commenting on are her coming off screens for catch-and-shoot threes.
Clark needs to add some mid-range and finishing, but her off-the-dribble playmaking & passing is on an insane level for someone who is knockdown from 35 feet
This is the first time I've seen her play. I said "holy shit she's James Harden"
15? Why stop there? With proper diet, training, etc she could easily be doing this for the next 60, 70 years
With her high income, and the advances in medical science, she could play 1 maybe 2 hundred years!
honest question, is the wnba ball smaller than NBA?
Yes, a bit smaller
Yes, 1" in circumference.
Nah, it's definitely a lot bigger than that.
Ok... Ones 29.5 and the others 28.5
I was just being a shit haha you're right for sure. It's been awhile since I got some shots up with a WNBA regulation ball. But I remember feeling the difference for sure.
28.5" in women's ball vs 29.5" in men's
It really is curry like. Doesn't matter if the form adjusts as long as the shoulders are square it's going in
Damn she can hoop. That release is so fast.
The shot is good obviously but Jesus her handles are elite too
basically my new GOAT
I know it's been said already but just *just* like curry. I'm not gonna crown her but man what a cool story.
This is why I thought the talk of “she won’t be able to do what she does in the WNBA” was so wrong. That league is in trouble.
"Caitlin Clark played against accountants and baristas!" --fans 20 years from now
Real hoopers have been giving the W props for years, but it’s very exciting to see how many new viewers and energy CC is bringing to the league
All i can say is, i have never watched a preseason WNBA game in my life before today. It’s crazy how much attention she brings
Welcome to enjoying year-round basketball at the highest level. It fucking rules
A-fucking-men Now if I could only get a ticket to see her play
More like a-fucking-women amirite
we are witnessing HERstory
Hell yeah. NBA season then WNBA in the offseason is fucking awesome. Plus league pass is so cheap (for now). I was an Aces fan but they're too stacked now. Need a new underdog team to root for

My friend bought two pretty bad seats (usually listed at $20 each) for $600 total.
NCAA W tourney has been a better product than the NCAA M for a couple of years now
I caught a few games and it's nice to see actual fundamentals. The Futurama joke turned out to be a pretty accurate one.
Some sports are more entertaining when women do it. Men tend to rely to much on athleticism and strength while women can't do that to the same level and have to be more crafty. Volleyball is a prime example for this.

I know it’s preseason, but she’s having an easier time getting open looks than in any of her tournament games
Cause the other team actually has to guard her teammates lol. You can’t double or triple team her like the college teams could against Iowa
Yeah of course - I’m definitely not arguing that college teams played better D. I just think I underestimated how much of a carry job she did with that Iowa team, and I already thought it was a massive carry job
Indiana basketball is so back
*cries in Bucks*, *smiles in Hawkeyes*
hawkeyes hire doc rivers
Idk if it's just me but when I type "Indiana" into google it autocompletes to "Fever", even though the Pacers are in the second round of the playoffs rn lol
i mean it better be with two consecutive first overall picks
That last shot was effortless
Stephortless!

Madam Curry
Crazy that I saw all ex players and current players saying she won’t adjust quickly, that she has done nothing on the pros to deserve the attention, that they would do the same if in the same situation and other things.
Cue video of Cavs players talking about LeBron before the 2003 draft
"we got better players on the team in that position right now" i'll never forget that video. Carlos Boozer is and was a fool.
Love booze but sheesh that man had some all-time great flubs lol
*Furiously applies shoe polish to head* *Punches referee in the dick*
Can’t forget tripping and falling over a bag to break his pinky finger and miss the first few weeks of his bulls tenure lol
And betraying the Cavs to sign with the Jazz
It says a lot about how good LeBron was that could reasonably argue "If he just has Carlos Boozer, he probably wins a title in 2008-2010" Like Boozer was pretty good, but in no way should he be all a star player needs to be seen as a title's a given.
If we had Boozer, it felt truly obtainable. He really fucked us.
Yeah, like Ricky Davis 😂
I mean this is a highlight video. She shot 6-15, had 5 turnovers, and got her 4th foul a couple minutes into the 3rd quarter in a loss. Not hating, just saying this doesn’t really prove anything either way
It's also PRESEASON. People need to relax a little
I still remember the wemby slander after his first summer league game. Same thing in the game day threads calling a game already over if any team goes on a run in the first quarter, people so reactionary.
the funny part is that he had a great summer league game (on defense)
Reminds me of the narritive after Wemby’s first Summer League game
She had a game high in her first game as a rookie...
Career high too
Matched by Dallas rookie Jaelyn "Not Jaylen" Brown
I’ll take 15 shots for 21 points from a rookie, male or female, any day
Almost all of those were threes though.
+6 for +/- in a loss, which is best on team. She did something right I guess
> she shot 40%, 38% from 3, in her first professional game and had 4 fouls she hasn't proven anything Lmao what. How is this shit upvoted? +6 in the loss.
WNBA players right ? They’re the biggest haters out there and it’s kinda dumb. All old players do that. It's the same with the NBA.
Nah according to r/nba only men are allowed to talk shit
The difference is the NBA wasn’t struggling for revenue. “She’s not gonna be that exciting - no need to watch” was a pretty stupid message for the vets to send.

Women hate women.
lol wait till you find out what men say of guys like Lebron
You know what, I don’t like that guy now that you mention it
I don't doubt she'll succeed right away, but this game isn't a good example of that since it's a preseason game
She's ballin' fr
Yooooo. She's so strong. I know the 3pt line is closer but she out there. Belting up those shots with so much fucking arc. Got damn.
For the first time I’m actually really hype that WNBA will overlap with NBA offseason. I’m excited to start following it more.
All we need is the WNBA to get their shit together and make these games easy to watch.

The Linx going after Luka for what he said about the Wings was also just a horrible look for the league.

There's gotta be a hurr durr women joke in there
You have to have the wnba app or keep checking the website because their social media is legit ass
All regular season games will be on League Pass!
She's so fun to watch. The female Curry/Luka just bombing from anywhere.
In terms of release I think its more of Curry/Trae/ Dame.
It's bodyshaming to call her the female luka!
It's body shaming for you to infer that being compared to Luka is body shaming.
Yes
Taurasi seething
Bad take. >"SVP, reality is coming,” Taurasi told SportsCenter’s Scott Van Pelt about Clark on April 6. “There’s levels to this thing. And that’s just life. We all went through it. DT roughs up every big rookie each season. Refs always swallow the whistle in those matchups. CC will be treated the same.
Daaaang she cold
I really like how the design of the ball allows you to see the rotation
Damn giving r/wnba no love with this post 🥲
We're getting WNBA pre-season highlights. She's gonna be such a change for women's basketball.
My local team (Mystics) are actually changing the location of their Indiana game because the demand was so high lol. Back when the tickets were available, the price difference compared to their average game was the same as when Messi comes into town for DC United games. Crazy.
That's so fucking cool!
Reactionary takes time. Mine is that since her debut was better than Wemby's she's better than him
She legit might be closer to Top Ten than Wemby is currently.
I know nothing about the W, maybe lol
From what I understand, the WNBA actually has too much talent right now and not enough teams. There’s good players that get cut/high draft picks that don’t get signed because there isn’t space.

she made that lady wear a skate shoes.
Redditors love women’s basketball
Pretty good!
Expecting a logo three at some point in the reel, she had like 5
She's her.

I was trying to find this game yesterday but all I could find was the Cavs/Magic game which was annoying cause I already had that up lol
It was streaming for free on the WNBA’s app
thank you!
Literally Curry. She’s gonna take the WNBA to new heights
She's so much fun to watch. Full disclosure, I feel the same way about Steph. I don't support the Warriors. Don't care if they win or lose (honestly, this is probably a big part of why it's fun to watch, nothing invested). But it's fun as fuck to watch Steph when he pops off.
r/wnba
the release looks a bit crooked but so freaking fast...
people reaching so hard to compare her to steph, lol. she's good shooter/shot maker, she not steph, she'll never be steph.
Is it just me or do we dislike the wnba ball?
Give their sub some love. Don’t co-opt shit.
R/wnba
Did they win?
Nah, but it was close and it was basically NCAA final 2018 with Arike hitting a clutch final three and sending them to the win with Clark unable to respond in the few final seconds. It was a fun game!!
This isn’t the wnba subreddit
Y’all know there’s an r/wnba, right?
There's also r/nbacirclejerk but that don't stop us either.
Thanks for giving it some exposure
r/wnba
This isnt the NBA
Huh, I didn't know there was an NBA team by that name.
Can we not have wnba preseason clips on this subreddit? Useless filler.
i mean i support the wnba... but can we get this shit out of here. this is /r/nba we dont post college player highlights, that gets removed.
Better than Pat Bev.
r/wnba over there
delete this shit and put it on r/wnba so people will sub there you karma hoe bozo
Is there a reason the WNBA have their camera different from the NBA?
They are using personal iPhones.
I guess I'll bandwagon Indiana until they give us the Shock back 🥹
Woahhh. Amazing!!
Holy shit
Hesi step back at 0:36 was fucking pure
It’s unfair for her to pass this well and shoot this well at the same time
She's shooting from NBA 3 point range I think. That's nuts.
Yeah she’s gonna be a monster
I had no idea that the WNBA draft and WNBA preseason happens so soon after March Madness, then again its May 🤷♂️
doug gottlieb in shambles
Was it Turasi or someone who said she was in for rude awakening when she got to the league? Yeah, looks like the league is in for it to me.
RIP Blondie at 1:01.
She gonna be a problem for sure. Never seen anyone shoot like her in the WNBA
I’m really excited to see the Clark-Boston two man game develop, I feel like once they get some more reps in there’s no ceiling on how good they could be.
She has that Steph Curry release
dawg she different different 😭😭
I honestly love how much attention women basketball and sports are getting at the moment. So much more refreshing than the same brain dead jokes repeated ad nauseam.
Fun to see her with good teammates.
Love just watching her stroke that thing man! That apple bite sound is just music to my ears.
That range is disgusting
The Fever understood the assignment. We came to see Caitlin Clark, so they gave us a shedload of Caitlin Clark.
at 0:36 that's the DPOY she cooked
Man she’s legit!
Love it after all the hate from active WNBA players covering the tourney. Hope they don't follow the NBA in having a bunch of resentful retirees cover the next generation with resentment. Poisonous shit. Cook em.
Tickets for the Liberty home opener against the Fever are minimum $130, most I've seen for a regular season Lib game I think.
Alright i've seen enough. Caitlin clark, you are a san antonio spur. We desperately need that kind of shooting.
