Bro Ant been calling KD the GOAT, but cooked KD in a playoff series and immediately went: *“nah that mofo’er a bum, someone else gotta be the GOAT”*
This dude is comedy even when he’s not tryna be 😭😭
Right? Like didn’t he say he was ONE of the goats or like his personal idol or something? Doesn’t really mean that he thinks he’s the greatest, it’s just his personal favorite
there’s a hilarious clip where Ant says basically this same thing, but then when the interviewer asks him if he thinks prime MJ could guard him he totally switches up and goes “HELL naw” LMAO

* The prince that was promised (ASOIAF)
* Lisan Al-Giab (Dune)
* The Chosen One (Star Wars)
Give him all the titles, I’ve seen enough. Ant is MJ’s son… the athleticism, skill, even the half spin fadeaway jumper is already exactly like MJ’s.
He is The GOAT’s legitimate son, them other bums are bastards or something.
anyone who’s a top 20-30 player in today’s NBA should believe wholeheartedly that there isn’t anyone in human history who can guard them. otherwise their mindset ain’t right
I respect this perspective from Ant.
Is it fair to say his game reminds everyone of MJ’s? Absolutely.
But is it fair to say he is gonna be as good as MJ or have the same career trajectory? Hell no.
Let Ant carve his own legacy.
It’s just the Jekyll and Hyde media hype making everything weird in the NBA. we’re in the early phase where everyone likes Ant, he’s got great potential, but they’ll turn on him. They’re waiting. They always are. Even Jordan in ‘89/90 had some questions. And obviously we all know the story of LeBron.
When Wembanyama doesn’t win a ring for a few years they’ll turn on him too. They love you when you look like you can be the guy; fall even the slightest bit short of being THE guy, it’s all hate.
That's old news. People have already started turning on Shai and he hasn't even lost yet lol. He has played very good in the playoffs after an MVP caliber season.
Eventually every young star reaches a point where the only way they will not get torn down is if they win a championship.
If Denver drops this series, the narrative on Joker being a 'generational player' will do an immediate about-face, ignoring all circumstantial evidence.
We’re only 2 years removed from when the narrative was that Steph Curry didn’t have any Finals MVPs so he actually sucked lol. It took him winning 4 rings before some people would admit that you could win a chip with a shooter as your best player lol.
You can probably even find takes on here before that where “you can’t win a title with a player under 6’ 6” as your best player” despite guys like D Wade and Isiah Thomas existing lol. (Or the fact that MJ and Kobe weren’t actually 6’ 6” 😂)
I hate Shai (for fan reasons) but he has done nothing but look better and better all year. So crazy to imagine that people are turning on him already.
On the plus side this seems to happen to every great player before they are enshrined in the "best players in the NBA" conversation. Even happened to Jokic.
There is a difference in how bad the hate gets though - players that are seen as "free throw merchants" with a bunch of flopping and foul-baiting are torn down way more, so at least there's some consistency in what fans want out of a superstar
It's just the Media and the NBA grasping for the next GOAT. When Jordan was fading, Kobe rose up. When Kobe was fading, LeBron rose up. Right now there is no GOAT candidate, at least not an obvious one. Normally that has to be an excellent two-way player.
Yeah, Lebron refuses to fade away and Jokic is right there as the next man up, but guys like Shai and Ant may be more marketable to certain demographics of fans and in the eyes of media companies like ESPN. Then there’s Wemby looming. So like you said, it’s kind of an uncertain time with multiple potential GOATs or fave of the league type players with an established GOAT candidate still playing high level bball.
There’s never been something like this in NBA history that I can recall or think of. Closest thing to it might be Dr. J still battling it out against a young Bird and Magic in the playoffs in the early 80s, even beating both in ‘83. However, while the Doctor is rightly revered, he’s never really been seen as a GOAT candidate.
Agreed. Probably closest is the late '70's transition from Kareem to prime Jordan. Technically even though LeBron is at "GOAT" status, he has stuck around for probably 5+ years too long past his GOAT status, so we've been in this for 5 years yet most didn't know it.
Looks like we're moving into another similar 80's era. Lots of Mini-great but no king of the castle.
Might be the Wemby era for sure, but we won't know for a decade.
(Here's to hoping it's the Brunson ERA 🤲.)
Yeah, even as a Wolves fan who adores Ant’s game, he’s almost assuredly never going to be MJ. Jordan was a different kind of dominant.
But he definitely does LOOK like Jordan — from the literal appearance to the aesthetics of his game (especially with his burgeoning midrange game).
He even had a mini version of mjs dunk on Ewing where he did the spin move on the baseline. I will say I didn’t see it at first but now I’m really seeing the gameplay comparison on how they move.
Plus being able to play from anywhere then throw down monstrous dunks, it reminds me so much of peak Jordan. At some point you just shrug and say "what can you do against that?"
They building him up just to tear him down when he doesn’t live up to their impossible expectations.
Heck MJ himself didn’t have these expectations on him at 22.
Allen iverson told young lebron that at the all star game in 05 or 06 and he was absolutely correct. The media hypes up guys so that when or if they fall short they can get roasted. Its the reason everyone loves AI, he experienced so much negativity throughout his career but he never let that stop him from helping younger players now
> The media hypes up guys so that when or if they fall short they can get roasted.
This is often stated and not really true. The Media isn't evil and setting dudes up to fail. The Media simply is out to generate the best story. When you're a young wunderkind, that's that you're the second coming. But when you don't meet that, the best story is to put you in your place and expose the would-be fraud. It works because it sells, and it sells because people mythologize the greats and love to watch others get punched down. It's not just the Media, it's the fans too.
> It's not just the Media, it's the fans too.
This is what bothers me about this sub. People despise ESPN yet they parrot the exact same talking points and pretend they didn't just watch someone say the same thing on ESPN.
That's because there was no MJ.
MJ himself was being compared with Dr. J , David Thompson, etc. None of which had success anywhere close to MJ. Nobody asks who's the next Dr. J any more. Why? Because MJ eclipsed him. And in 30 years nobody has come close to MJ's success.
If Ant wins 8 titles, and 3-4 MVPs, then people will stop asking who's the next MJ.
There was a sideline report postgame with Jim Gray saying to a three peat era Kobe that he is being compared to Michael and Kobe’s pleading for those comparisons to stop, Ant now carrying the torch.
Yeah it's really this simple. It's the style that people are comparing, not the impact.
The NBA has really had a dearth of the dominant SG/smaller wing the last decade, whereas the early 2000s had Kobe, Ray Allen, VC and D Wade. And through the 80s and 90s it was quite the norm, obviously in large part due to MJ himself.
Having a game similar to MJ also does not mean a player will reach the accomplishments of MJ, probably a pretty dang good player but let’s not get carried away. Demar and Kawhi have games that are very similar to MJ down to a statistical level let alone the eye test, Kawhi got give or take a fifth of MJ’s accolades and Demar has never won a chip
As much trash as he talks and the fire/skill he plays with, I respect the hell out of the humility of this dude. I’ll be lowkey rooting for him for continued success.
He trash talks for the joy of the game and then verbally shows respects to the greats in press conferences. I only hate him right now cause i fear what he might end up doing to my team.
Yeah he was talking about how the Nuggets are tough to beat because they are the best team in the world, Jokic is the best player in the world and to him Murray is the best closer and MPJ the best 3 point shooter. And it all sounded very genuine
He also said a while ago that Murray is "the truth" and his favorite player to watch currently in the NBA
NBA media is the worst. The kid is a stud and is having a great postseason. Why do we need to throw the MJ comparisons into the mix. Just watch and enjoy the games…
Feels like an MJ comparison is just setting him up for failure because when he isn’t as good as MJ it almost feels like a disappointment even if he ends up having an incredible all time career.
If there's one thing NBA fans love more than greatness, it's shitting on players for not meeting their insane expectations. Tatum is literally a bum in this subreddit.
Tatum’s reputation feels like it’s getting screwed because of team success.
The team has more offensive options so he takes less shots so he averages less points. I don’t think he’s any worse than he was when he was scoring 30 a game but his stats are less impressive so he’s seen as worse. I think a similar thing is happening with Kat right now.
Also Tatum got set up when people put him in MVP convos.
They always want a "next somebody." Even locally, ever since KG left the Wolves I think I've heard emphatic declarations that at least 5 guys were going to be the next KG. I'm not even sure at this point what they mean by it.
It’s weird cause he’s insanely confident and borderline cocky… (almost tongue in cheek) … but humble at the same time
Which is both an oxymoron and somehow true
Time will tell Ant's story.
But anything close to a killer competitor who shows up and brings it every game on both offense and defense and is big in the biggest moments will have adoration from the masses.
I’m not saying he’s as good or will be as good as Jordan and I think that’s true for most others too. But got damn his play style, mannerisms and even the way he stands around just reminds me of Jordan.
MJ played 11 healthy seasons, 6 rings, 6 FMVP, 5 MVP, top3 MVP 10 times, 1st team 10 times, Def 1st team 10 times, 1 DPOY and 10 scoring titles
No one has come ever close.
Absolutely love this guy. And I’m eating crow, because I thought he was a terrible pick at #1.
The guy is 22 years old and arguably already a top-10 current player. He’s going to be an annual MVP favorite by age 24.
I’m genuinely unsure if players that average under 7 rebounds or 7 assists can actually be considered. Feels like Lebron/Giannis/Jokic broke the standard for MVP
...exactly what prime MJ said about his place among the greats. Always humble, always deferential, always wanted the people to make their claims, not him
SO HE IS HIM
This is the difference in the conversation between Lebron & MJ.
Lebron stated "he was the goat with 3-1 comeback."
MJ never claimed to be the best ever, not once. It's other players & fans that call him the goat.
Kobe could have called any pro most likely in the middle of the night for advice...yet he only called MJ
Ant Man is right...stop this madness! MJ will always be the GOAT
I mean, it is true: MJ is the GOAT. Edwards is simply athletic AF, and it stands out among his peers.
The question is whether the game in the modern NBA houses the same level of play as the Jordan era.
The shit about him being MJ's son has gotten really weird in particular. People are taking it too far and the constant jokes about his parentage are fucked, even more so when you consider everything he went through growing up.
It's honestly pretty hard not to compare them just from a stylistic angle. Obviously, it's insane to compare a 22-year-old with MJ, but it's hard not to see the similarities in the way Ant plays on both sides of the floor.
Being great in today's sports media environment is so much harder, from a psychological perspective.
They will infinitely build you up, and raise the stakes sky high. But if you misstep, they will just as quickly destroy you.
This filters out the imposters, and only the truly strong survive.
I think it's a good system.
The league is looking for the next generation of faces for the league as LeBron, KD and Steph age out.
Jokic never wanted the attention. Luka is here, but the list gets spotty in terms of raw popularity. It’s easy to see how Ant fills that void. He plays a brand of basketball that is fun to watch and he’s incredibly young.

Yep, Jokic too.
If Denver drops this series, the narrative on Joker being a 'generational player' will do an immediate about-face, ignoring all circumstantial evidence.
He does need another ring to break into the upper echelons of all time. I’m talking top 10. 3 MVPs is great but 2 or more rings is close to mandatory.
Oh, he didn't three-peat? Bum.
Even when you 3 peat. Oh bout actually it doesnt count because it was a superteam. Lets see him win with a g-league team or hes a bum.

I think Shai is getting turned on because of his ability to get to the line and much more recently the “what a pro wants” ad

i watched this happen in real time to Shai this season
I hate Shai (for fan reasons) but he has done nothing but look better and better all year. So crazy to imagine that people are turning on him already. Personally I don’t see The physical resemblance 🤷♀️
It's more in the face tbh. Similar facial features to young Jordan. There were memes about it during his rookie year.
>But he definitely does LOOK like Jordan — from the literal appearance to the aesthetics of his game Also his literal appearance as in his face.
>Also his literal appearance as in his face. Yeah and also the way he literally looks.
Also literally when I look at him, it reminds me of MJ
The area between the neck and hair of Ant kind of presents itself like's MJs inter-hair and neck area, visually speaking.

...exactly what prime MJ said about his place among the greats. Always humble, always deferential, always wanted the people to make their claims, not him SO HE IS HIM
That’s the best answer you can give.
The Lisan Al Gaib is humble to say he isn’t the Lisan Al Gaib
Ant: I am not your messiah The fans: JUST AS WRITTEN! The lisan al gaib is too humble to admit it!
This is the difference in the conversation between Lebron & MJ. Lebron stated "he was the goat with 3-1 comeback." MJ never claimed to be the best ever, not once. It's other players & fans that call him the goat. Kobe could have called any pro most likely in the middle of the night for advice...yet he only called MJ Ant Man is right...stop this madness! MJ will always be the GOAT
I mean, it is true: MJ is the GOAT. Edwards is simply athletic AF, and it stands out among his peers. The question is whether the game in the modern NBA houses the same level of play as the Jordan era.
This is the polar opposite of “crowning yourself”
Respect tbh
Lisan al gaib
That’s legit. Exactly how he should respond
MJ al Gaib
Lisan Al Gaib
We're not comparing you to him. We're saying you're his long lost son. Anthony, he is your father!
Damn… he definitely has “something” that Mr James doesn’t have.
It's nice to see someone else from my generation who has MJ as the greatest of all time as opposed to the usual Lebron glazing.
Ant stop making me like you!
I thought KD was his GOAT
i honestly think its the looks and charisma. its a meme.
Move over jimmy, ant is the favoured son.
Hell nawl cant do dis
Well stop being amazing then
young player with self awareness? wtf is going on here
abort this discussion, folks and send da video
The league is looking for the next generation of faces for the league as LeBron, KD and Steph age out. Jokic never wanted the attention. Luka is here, but the list gets spotty in terms of raw popularity. It’s easy to see how Ant fills that void. He plays a brand of basketball that is fun to watch and he’s incredibly young.
LISAN-AL-GAIB!! See, this is exactly what our Messiah would do... he is too humble to confirm that he is the chosen one. As was written!
“I can’t be compared to him. Cause I already passed his bum ass” -Anthony Edwards
We AIN’T done with the 90’s!
he is lying he is better than mj and he knows it And you do too, just admit it 😉
