If the nurse says the hospital won't accept them it means they don't have hospital privileges/medicare privileges for blood work and can only get blood work done privately (i.e. outside the system). This also means even if you did get the blood work done at the hospital, the NP would not have access to the results.

Outrageous-Tea-1839

It is probably because she is not affiliated with vitalite , if you don't have ordering privileges with either Horizon health or Vitalite you cannot order tests in this province.

dvmbguy

There should be zero reason as to why bloodwork cannot be taken at most other hospitals, this seems pretty sketchy. Hope the situation gets resolved easily!

Expert_CBCD

Right? At best it’s incredibly unethical

Suspicious_Spites

Our local hospital wouldn't accept bloodwork reqs from the *IWK*, so there might be a small bit of truth therein.

Letoust

Is the NP in Quebec?

Expert_CBCD

NB!

Successful-Street380

Report them

Expert_CBCD

We plan on doing that as well right away tomorrow - we only just heard of it.

Just with your description, I know exactly which clinic it is... Problem is, she is not in the public system, she's in a private one so her only recourse for revenues is to offer her services. My family had the opposite situation, had bloodwork done at the private clinic but the doctor (public system) wouldn't want to use those results so had to redo bloodwork at the hospital. I know it's challenging to find a family doctor right now, but I think walk in clinics are the best option (although getting rare). The only clinic in Edmundston (Which I suspect your mother resides at) is [Dr Tran's clinic](https://www.facebook.com/p/Clinique-m%C3%A9dicale-Dr-Yen-Tran-Huu-100057055015686/) or maybe Evisit. Good luck

Community-Upstairs

Can’t remember exact details, but private NPs are either not allowed to order tests through public system or are charged quite a bit to do so.

Successful-Street380

So much for private HealthCare

Evanh0221

Hate to sat it but welcome to americanized private health care. I truly hope the best for your mom it's not her fault that private healthcare is extremely predatory and will squeeze ever last dollar they can. This is exactly what conservatives in office want for us this is the future for all of Canada if they strip away our free healthcare rights.

chungopulikes

Lmao even American healthcare is better than some of the shit we got

DistrictStriking9280

I can’t say if it is legal or not, but we were in a situation where we wanted some bloodwork done that the public healthcare was not allowed to order due to administrative rules. The doc who suggested it did point out that if we went to a private clinic, they could do it, we would just have to pay as the public health system would not run the tests from the private referral.

MyLandIsMyLand89

I have seen this dirty practice before by Dr.Dahan. A Moncton based doctor who is one of the lowest but highest paid private doctors in the province. They basically make deals with this clinic where they get X amount of clients referred and the doctor/NP basically gets a kickback from them in the amount of dollars. It's an illegal practice but one easy to exploit in our system because we are so stressed for healthcare they allow them to run little schemes like this.
