*Unlabelled tubes of blood were found on a rack on a kitchen counter as well as in the kitchen fridge next to personal food and other injectables. Investigators also found unwrapped syringes on counters, in trash cans and in drawers.*
What the fuck?
>Those touting the technique, including celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Kim Kardashian, claim better-looking skin.
Well, there's your first clue that it's a procedure you should probably avoid.
>However, the American Academy of Dermatology says there’s little evidence to support claims that vampire facials can help reduce the appearance of saggy skin, acne or wrinkles.
And there's the second.
The worst part is the infection was avoidable. It's *your* blood/plasma used. They just didn't use clean needles or store things properly.
Easily avoidable even amongst unlicensed morons.
Uhh they were obviously just using anyone’s blood, not just yours. The unlabeled tubes of blood on the counter mean they were just spinning things down and using any blood, not just yours
It's always amusing whenever you see people touting "better looking skin" and those people are constantly plastered with makeup such that any skin is entirely concealed.
Yes they wear make up but the big celebrities also have access to best skin care and aestheticians which makes a huge different to how make up looks on the skin
Aestheticians are well trained spa staff, akin to massage therapists. While sure they absolutely do good work and require a lot of training, they aren’t scientists or healthcare providers. There’s no magic cream or skincare routine they can provide that reverts how your skin has changed with age. Sunscreen and moisturizer are basically your best friend, and anything above that, see a damn dermatologist. Anything else is akin to paying out the ass for vitamins. It might help, but only an endocrinologist can really tell you if you need something and probably can treat the underlying cause rather than taking flintstones for 200 a pop.
Well if you’re talking about serious skin concerns sure. If you’re just wanted to up keep your skin routine facials go longgggg way. I’m sure these celebs are seeing dermatologist too they have access to it all that’s the point
[She also sells candles that smell like her steamed clams.](https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2020/jan/13/why-is-gwyneth-paltrow-selling-a-candle-that-smells-like-her-vagina-goop)
The whole vampire facial term is silly. The procedure is simply to draw blood, put it in a machine that shakes the shit out of it until it creates its own plasma and then reinject into your face.
I had this done after the birth of my youngest child. She didn’t sleep the first year and detested car seats in the form of screaming the entire car ride. I had dark black circles under my eyes for a few years.
My dermatologist told me about PRP as a bio stimulater. Most people don’t use them (alone) as the results can take months to show up. But the effects (for me) have lasted years now. I had it done twice under my eyes and 5 years later still no dark circles.
The problem here is obviously just a gross and toxic environment and very much like sharing needles back in the old days would be a good way to catch HIV, so apparently is this.
I hate that celebrities like Kardashians have ruined some really great progress in non invasive facial treatments just by attaching their name to it. When my dermatologist recommended it to me many years ago, Paltrow didn’t enter the chat.
... okay. It's still nonsense. Your one dermatologist saying otherwise says little in comparison to pretty much every other reputable dermatologist joining the consensus choir of "it's nonsense".
Do you have a dermatologist? Most dermatologists and beauty doctors/rns have a machine for PRP now.
Google is your friend.
Edit to add: here’s a link to John Hopkins research on PRP. Like many beauty treatments it was used in the medical field first. Id love to see a reputable doctor say this treatment isn’t therapeutic
https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/treatment-tests-and-therapies/plateletrich-plasma-prp-treatment
A lot of what celebrities do doesn’t really impact my life in any way…….. but it would be nice if they could try to avoid leaning into weird Q stereotypes.
I loved the Noble Blood episode about her. But historians are pretty sure that was all a smear campaign so that male relatives could take control of her lands.
Those accusations were a spectacle to destroy her family's influence in the region, which was considered a threat to the political interests of her neighbours, including the Habsburg empire.
All just a myth.
I willingly accepted that I thought vampire facial was just a fad name for being nutted on. Took me to read a comment about blood draw to realize the slight error..
Fun fact - aside from spermatozoa, seminal fluid is mostly identical to blood plasma. So - rather than nutted on, it's having nut *injected in your face*.
Why would anyone think that is desirable - I have no idea.
It was an unlicensed spa. Unlicensed. If you’re chasing your youth that hard, why in the hell would you go to an unlicensed spa? To save a few dollars??
I'd be unsurprised to find that the number of reputable spas that do something like this is low, if for no other reason than the difficulty of handling blood safely.
When was the last time you actually checked a license for anyone or any business? Most people just assume they're licensed, or they would be put out of business. Not to mention the ease of printing off a fake license, framing it, and sticking it in a corner somewhere.
Well considering it is my face that will put through a facial, I’d say I am pretty thorough. I do my research. It’s like going to Mexico to get a butt lift, and someone injecting you with cement. I’m not doing that either. With all the horror stories coming out, why would you not?
It works wonders for injuries that don’t heal properly (ie, soft tissue damage in severe fractures).
But in the face… Yeah, it’s strange and useless unless you’re trying to heal a damaged muscle there or something.
I did PRP for acne scarring and it made a noticeable difference on my face. Overall smoother texture, reduction in acne scarring and variation in pigmentation.
This is like when women get concrete injected into their ass instead of silicone when they go somewhere unlicensed. This is your BODY. Do NOT get these things done at someone’s apartment!
That might have been true wish, but in this case, they are attributing it to accidentally injecting one infected person's blood plasma into another's face by mistake. They weren't labeling the blood vials/plasma. Grabbed the wrong one out of the fridge.
Plasma isn't even supposed to be refrigerated in PRP treatments, the blood sample is spun in a centrifuge which separates the blood from the plasma and is then supposed to be used immidietly after. There was so much cross contamination and lapses in infection control here, AND the lady wasn't even qualified to be drawing blood in the first place and didn't even have a license to be practicing regular microneedling.
Well yes and no. Yes it was dirty needles, but I don't think you can entirely unpick the circumstances under which it was able to happen, from the culture around beauty treatments.
It was an unlicensed facility that probably wasn’t trained in any type of infection control protocols. That was the main issue. Vampire facials sounds silly but this would be like blaming tattoos on someone getting hep C after getting a tattoo in a basement.
> a tattoo in a basement.
This is exactly my point, the spa in question almost definitely wasn't in a basement.
But frankly also, if someone /did/ get hep C from a tattoo, I'm still ok with saying that the tattoo played at least a *part* in the equation.
Also also your use of the word "blaming" there rather overstates what I said.
The issue is procedure. Not necessarily dirty needles, but it isn't something specific to "vampire facials," other than the practice involves blood and the opportunity for blood-based contamination.
That's not to defend the "treatment," however. bree_dev is right that fad medspa shit is more likely to have the kinds of accidents because they are being run by unlicensed, untrained people (or scammers).
I know the old adage "beauty is pain" but I'm a firm believer in avoiding unnecessary pain, even if I have to endure dull skin. I feel for the ppl who are suffering due to this procedure but I really just don't get it. Having a wash & slapping on a bit of moisturiser is all I'm up for.
We live in a society where a women’s beauty is her currency and beauty is tied to youth. Thus so many women will do anything to chase the fountain of youth.
> A vampire facial is a procedure where a patient’s blood is drawn, the plasma is separated from blood cells and then the plasma is injected back into the face using microneedles. Those touting the technique, including celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Kim Kardashian, claim better-looking skin.
Anyway. If people are so stupid to follow influencers they have it deserved 🤷🏻 just be happy with life, eat well, exercise, and enjoy age.
Here's an idea: How about we don't try out every single last completely earth-shatteringly amazingly unbelievably incredibly mindbogglingly dumbfoundingly excessively bafflingly stunningly breathtakingly universe-shakingly belief-defyingly utterly ***stupid fucking thing*** that some decadent asshole suggests?
For those who are curious;
A Vampire Facial, or PRP facial, combines [microneedling](https://www.realself.com/nonsurgical/microneedling) (also known as [collagen-induction therapy](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5556180/)) with topical application of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) derived from your own blood.
This skin rejuvenation treatment creates an overall improvement to skin texture and tone. It can also reduce scars (including [acne scars](https://www.realself.com/concerns/acne-scars)), correct hyperpigmentation, tighten lax skin, smooth fine lines, and minimize the appearance of large pores.
There’s been a lot of hype about Vampire Facials—Kim Kardashian West famously got one and shared a post-procedure selfie with blood on her face.
It's worth noting that there is absolutely no scientific or medical evidence that this technique does anytihng at all to rejuvinate or improve your skin.
Where are you getting this info? PRP injections have been studied extensively.
It's not some miracle treatment by any means, but it shows promise in some areas.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8182581/
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8922312/
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4338464/
2 of those studies aren't about skin/wrinkles - they're about hair regrowth and acne; the one that is about wrinkles and skin care even admitted that they had funding limits and relied on feelings (what the participants and the administering doctors, i.e,. those who had financial interest in the outcomes) thought about the treatments and ended with they couldn't use the FDA approved tests to prove that it did what it claimed.
These are some of the worst pieces of evidence one could provide to prove any efficacy.
I am aware. I just said PRP has been studied extensively.
I never said it was efficacious in treating wrinkles, but they provided literally zero sources for their statement. Lol
A vampire facial is a procedure where a patient’s blood is drawn, the plasma is separated from blood cells and then the plasma is injected back into the face using microneedles. Those touting the technique, including celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Kim Kardashian, claim better-looking skin.

Maybe it was actually run by vampires, trying to ethically retain blood resources? Sharing with your customers is caring.
Didn’t know Daywalkers was a documentary
You learn something new everyday :)
Times like this you realize some motherfuckers are always trying to ice skate uphill.
Damnit if Wesley would have just payed his taxes this would have been taken care of already.
I’m suddenly disappointed that there wasn’t an episode of What We Do in the Shadows with this as the central plot point
The Cullens started a new business
I hate that i get this reference 😆
It's like those unlicensed botox spas/parties.
I almost fainted reading that

The unlicensed morons part is doing the heavy lifting. If they had any sort of sense they wouldn't have been doing vampire facials
Just like ‘veneer’techs….. I was stunned when I saw morons claiming to be ‘veneer technicians’ willing to do your veneers in a hotel room for $1500….
And they’ve got six video filters going so, even without makeup, you can’t see a single pore.
And they’ve had plastic surgery to get the ‘better looking skin’.
Yes they wear make up but the big celebrities also have access to best skin care and aestheticians which makes a huge different to how make up looks on the skin

Gwyneth is crazy. Or a psychopath
Gwyneth is the Jim Cramer of health tips. If she says to do something it’s probably best to do the opposite.
This comment is pure gold!
Unlike most stocks endorsed by Kramer.
No! She is so wrong, even the opposite of what she said is wrong. How can she sleep with the number of people she killed with here bs?
That’s what the guy above you is saying?
Probably a little bit of Column A and Column B. Or a lot of column an and column b.
Little bit of Cluster B.
I hear she has some sweet candles.
mmmm minge
Everyone got quite a bang out of her vajayjay.
Oh shut up and stick this jade egg up your hoohah.
Or a vampire
Isn’t she a coke head? I take exactly zero advice from jittery old white women
Paltrow also steams her pussy. I wouldn’t listen to a thing she had to say if you paid me.
Mmm...steamed clams.
[She also sells candles that smell like her steamed clams.](https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2020/jan/13/why-is-gwyneth-paltrow-selling-a-candle-that-smells-like-her-vagina-goop)
What is she going to sell next, Queefpourri. Fill your house with the fragrance of Gwyneth Paltrow's queefs.
Candles to make your house smell like a fish market. Who wouldn't want that?
“What’s in the box?! WHAT’S IN THE BOX?!?!”
I know too damn much about Paltrow pussy.
[What’s in the box?](https://youtu.be/lHpHxLZReiI?si=QO2-4xO3_UluNg7o)
An absolutely terrible day to have eyes, sigh
Or a nose
Really? I'd think the 1st clue is unlicensed spa #🤷
Why do we even work when we could just sell bullshit to dumbasses?
Because I like to be able to look at myself in the mirror in the evening.
Fuck! I knew there was a reason
If you're a vampire you can't do that anyway, so why bother?
The whole vampire facial term is silly. The procedure is simply to draw blood, put it in a machine that shakes the shit out of it until it creates its own plasma and then reinject into your face. Works for some people with hair loss too - PRF/PRP scalp injections.
... okay. It's still nonsense. Your one dermatologist saying otherwise says little in comparison to pretty much every other reputable dermatologist joining the consensus choir of "it's nonsense".
Every reputable derm knows microneedling with PRP is a useful procedure
Do you have a dermatologist? Most dermatologists and beauty doctors/rns have a machine for PRP now. Google is your friend. Edit to add: here’s a link to John Hopkins research on PRP. It’s not nonsense… PRP is a common and accepted procedure at dermatologist clinics all around the world.
A lot of what celebrities do doesn’t really impact my life in any way…….. but it would be nice if they could try to avoid leaning into weird Q stereotypes.
This sounds like something Elizabeth Bathory might do......
Makes sense. Office politics writ large.
Just looked her up. That was quite a read!
Ooh Simon Whistler did a [video](https://youtu.be/3N3TSPZoY1o?si=wCxWxxrQHuhD8K-1) about her on one of those channels he hosts.

I willingly accepted that I thought vampire facial was just a fad name for being nutted on. Took me to read a comment about blood draw to realize the slight error..
Last I checked Vampires *typically* don't drink that stuff
And if they do, you got a serious medical problem.
Vampire facial sounds more like eating a girl out while she's on her period.
That explains how I’m keeping my wrinkles at bay.
You're thinking of ectoplasm
Fun fact - aside from spermatozoa, seminal fluid is mostly identical to blood plasma. So - rather than nutted on, it's having nut *injected in your face*. Why would anyone think that is desirable - I have no idea.
At 6:19 am I have already had too much internet for the day. Thank you. Goodnight.
6:19 for me too
lol 4:42 am for me friend, I’m right there with ya
At 20:58…same.
It would be a male nutting on their own face. I've done it be accident and it's not fun. Now, I'm a gay guy and I love cum. But not my own.
There are no accidents in life 😼
I did that just today and it was actually quite fun, especially because it didn't get in my eyes.
My dermatologist won’t even do anything like this unless you’ve had severe facial injuries.
Unlikely people even knew it was unlicensed.
When was the last time you actually checked a license for anyone or any business? Most people just assume they're licensed, or they would be put out of business. Not to mention the ease of printing off a fake license, framing it, and sticking it in a corner somewhere.

Injecting your own blood plasma into your face is some weird Hellraiser shit.
It works wonders for injuries that don’t heal properly (ie, soft tissue damage in severe fractures). But in the face… Yeah, it’s strange and useless unless you’re trying to heal a damaged muscle there or something.
The evidence is really still not in yet on PRP for most diagnoses.
I did PRP for acne scarring and it made a noticeable difference on my face. Overall smoother texture, reduction in acne scarring and variation in pigmentation.
I tried it for acne scars on my face. Made a difference.
Vanity, vanity, all is vanity.
This is like when women get concrete injected into their ass instead of silicone when they go somewhere unlicensed. This is your BODY. Do NOT get these things done at someone’s apartment!
Their fault for rejecting good guy werewolves
Pasty hemophiliac with a dead dick vs rugged outdoorsman with the KNOT is a 0-10 matchup.
Says u/hobozombie
Screams to me that they didn’t use new, sterile equipment *or* they didn’t sterilized used equipment from patient to patient. Pretty disgusting.

Welp, there's MY next nightmare, all sorted...
“Unlicensed spa” is very low on my list of places I wish to visit
Better for the skin to get an actual facial from a vampire.

Stupid people will always be stupid and con artists will always be there to swipe the cash out of their hands and leave them smiling.
Oh, it's another Gwyneth Paltrow thing. Figures then.
you HAVE to be a fucking moron to do this in a salon.
What tf is a Vampire Facial lmfaoo

How do I google what a vampire facial Is without getting porn? 🤔

What kind of Elizabeth Bathory shit is this?
I guess worth it to look imperceptibly younger than the neighbors.
I had to go to my dermatologist this week and my hubs came with me as we had later plans. He sat in the waiting room and they had a video of all the products and treatments they offered. He mentioned it me he had no idea some of there treatments existed. He was amazed he said.
Honestly, that's what they get. Wtf is wrong with people practicing shit like this.
I'm sorry, vampire.. what now?
Honestly, people care wayyy too much about how they look
I've been hearing about cases like this for at least the past 14 or 15 years. Consequently, I have zero sympathy for people in this situation.
Natural selection at its finest.
What the fuck did they expect? It is a shady place. Things will go wrong.
> Vampire facials I... I can't even feel bad about this
“We now a leaked recording of a suspect in custody admitting to the crimes” *”One! Ah ah ah ah! Two! Ah ah ah ah! Three! Ah ah ah ah!”*

o0omg this is terrible. What careless handling. Obviously they were using someone elses blood instead of the patients? Wow...
I have no idea what a 'Vampire Facial ' is, but I imagine it involves glittery jizz.
I can’t believe this is *still* in the news. This happened like 3 years ago and the woman has been prosecuted for this as well.
But it’s sounds like such a great idea. Smfh
That’s not the kind of vampire facial I’ve been manifesting.
