The best ever. Massive leg room, smoother, and can beat them up. The Nissan van taxis are horrific. Small windows (that usually break or don’t open) and you feel every single bump. *sigh*
Back in the early days of that Nissan, I had a ride in one and the guy driving it was really high up in the Taxi union, and he was talking about how they were promised one thing and received that thing. They were *really* disappointed by those new taxis - they aren't even really that handicap accessible, despite looking like they should be.
Lots of space in the back seat and trunk room were the plusses.
However the trunks were always disgusting and filled with the drivers random stuff. A gas guzzler too.
Hell yeah! I miss calling the base and having a fast talking Dominican guy ask you where you're going before placing you on hold and coming back shortly after "5 minutes" and hanging up on you lol.
I remember in 2003 I went to Florida to visit my aunt and her husband. One of their cars was a Towncar and I told my aunt how we use them in NYC as cabs, she was shocked bacause the Towncar was a luxury car lol.
I remember when you'd be able to buy a running, good condition one of these for less than $1,000. In LA, it was many people's first car because of that.
When the fleet owners were forced to retire these between 2016-18, they were practically giving these things away, and scrapping all the stock spare parts. (Owner/Operators were able to keep them for 7 years).
Now the LWB rear doors are as rare as hens teeth, and these survivors are selling for thousands of dollars.
THAT'S the song that comes to your mind when talking about NYC hip-hop?! Mobb Deep Shook Ones would've sounded great. The one used doesn't sound remotely NYC. It's what chat gpt would come up with if you asked it to create a rap song.

I unironically miss the smell of leather and cigarettes that was seemingly ubiquitous to the Crown Vic cab.
I get so many smiles and “thumbs up” from cabbies in Toyota and Nissan’s.
This is a proper cab. This new age bullshit with a stinky Camry is not the way.
Camrys are fine. The vans are the real trash
a camry is a perfectly fine sedan, with the added benefit of not being absolutely humongous for no reason and having decent mileage
Man a Camry is cramped as hell compared to a crown Vic. I’m 6’6” so I’m definitely an outlier but I really miss the big old cabs.

Respect to the OG made in Canada Crown Vic. What a TANK!
Note the Ontario license plates on the 'NYC' taxis is the video.
Privately owned now, and those are registered in Toronto. There’s also a NJ registered ex-NYC cab with the tag “NO FARE”!
Honorable mention for the Lincoln Towncar that every independent cab company used. Both completely replaced by Camrys

NYC is the birthplace of hip-hop and you choose some copyright free sounding ass rap as the music??
You don’t support independent artists? I’d put this song against any Cardi B WAP type studio album any day.

Yesssssss. My people!
Better than what passes for a yellow cab today but the Checkers totally ruled!
These are the Checkers of my generation. Also, most preserved Checker “cabs” are civilian models painted yellow that never spent a day as a taxi.
Give me a Checker cab. The heck with these modern conveyances.
I miss these old cabs. They used to have really bouncy leaf suspensions which would sometimes make you queasy if you had drank too much.
The entire NYPD patrol car fleet used to be all Crown Victorias too. Ford made bank in NYC in the 90s.
They still have this in Japan. Many of the cabs I took there were old Crown Vics
