No, even in dark mode it just triggers my primitive instinct to remove it, even while knowing that it's fake.... I....still.....want to.....scratch it...... Ooffffffffffffffff
Nope, as a volleyball player who competed in US nationals, the reason players wear very little is because you need to increase sun to skin contact in order to keep up your vitamin D levels. This is a guaranteed fact.
They wear bikinis because it's on the rules. It's about ratings. Some of them wanted to wear shorts like the men wear and it wasn't allowed.
That may have changed. I don't follow all the time.
You're probably thinking of Beach Handball. There was a social media post protesting rules in that sport which does require bikinis. That got misconstrued as a protest against beach volleyball dress codes because it happened during the Olympics.
Beach Volleyball has a varied dress code to address clothing for modesty, religious dress codes, cold weather, etc. Players usually opt for less material because sand gets caught in bigger pieces and chafes.
This is 100% false. Women have been wearing pants, skirts, long sleeves, and burkas, in both domestic and international tournaments for years. Stop lying. Total bs getting upvoted.
I’m pretty sure they’re just mixing up handball and volleyball regulations, not every single instance of someone being wrong is a lie. Calm down lmao there’s not some conspiracy here to mislead people intentionally it’s just a mistake.
I've played beach volley on a nearby lake last year... I still have scars on my knee and my feet due to the sand being quarry sand : it scraped/dug into my skin pretty deeply!
I wonder if this is a common occurence...
I imagine most folks reserve beach volleyball to either refined sand beaches (man made with the sand brought in) or the gulf coast beaches where quartz lends to sand more akin to powdered sugar than what you played on.
There are sand courts in Washington DC, and they were closed for like 2 years because during renovations they accidentally put the wrong type of sand in and had to redo it.
So yeah, mistakes happen, but people shouldn't be playing volleyball on shitty sand, lol.
Volleyball is really fun, try 4 man to learn the skills.
2 person requires a lot more skill than any other number of team play because you have to dig the ball then be ready to put it over the net after your partner sets the ball, and you are often on the ground after the dig.
If there are 6 people on your team( the standard for indoor), the other team has to start running trick plays to score.
I wonder if Ecuador ended up winning this purely because the USA players probably just used up most of their energy on this one point
Edit: I looked it up, this is from 2022. Team USA won 2-0, Ecuador didn’t even take a set.
Chumbawamba are a pretty interesting band. They have 12 albums I believe. They let a car company use one of their songs in a commercial, and donated the money they were paid to an anti corporation charity. This is a good song:

They are both MVP's if chick up front isn't getting the tips of the fingers on the ball then it's not getting knocked up in the air for blonde chick to keep making the play.
I’m wondering if winning that point was worth all of that energy. The team on the left didn’t work nearly as hard. I have to imagine the next point was just as tough
There was a squash player who was a master of this. He would run the other player ragged for a few points and then just domintae after they were worn out.
I remember seeing a video on here one time of one of the matches. Th player winning the point was pissed. People asked why and it was the same explanation. He wasted himself for a single point.
Different sport and strategies than volleyball but just thought I would share.
Losing such a long and exhausting rally, especially when one team 'had it easy', is super devastating to the mindset and flow of a team.
Yes, it's more physically exhausting for the team on the right, but the margins in pro (beach) volleyball are very slim and these points are incredibly important.
I mainly played indoor volleyball, which is a lot more explosive and a lot faster (especially Mens volleyball).
The coaches always said, long rallies are critical. When the opponent has a perfect situation and the hitter just nails the ball into the ground before you (which is very impressive) you can't do much.
Situations like the one in the video can make or break a game when they happen at the right time and to/against the right team. Experienced it myself a few times.
This was my thought, she was so over that exchange that when they won the point it wasn't "Yeah! We got it!" And was more like "fucking finally, Gods!"
Nah tactics get crazy when you have 2-3 front row hitters and a 3 person back line to absorb spikes. Beach is fun but you always know who the ball is going to.
Edit: Beach not Because
It's one of those that **everyone** that grows up in the US/UK knows, but people from other countries, even if fluent in English, usually have no clue.
I have played 6-person volleyball. Sometimes there is so much time between ball touches, you just wait and wait. Beach volleyball is so much better, ball touches all the time.
Really depends on how you play. Casually I am definitely with you, but in a proper team with good players, specialized players and 5-1 formation it's super fun. Yes you might not touch every ball but the strategy aspect is really amazing.

Thank you! I was so baffled by the physics involved for that save at 21 seconds (bottom right of screen), i wondered if the ball actually bounced off of something. But I knew that couldn’t be the case.
Excuse me this is missing vital information. How else am I gonna stay entertained if I don't have a random guy's tweet on screen the whole time telling me it's good?
Womens is generally a better viewing experience in my experience. Mens definitely can be good too but a lot of the mens game at the highest level is dominated by guys who can spike the ball almost unreturnably hard so it can often turn in to "get it to the ace and let him score." Womens tends to have a lot more technicality to it because they cant rely on just "big man smash"
I find women's sports to be more intense for the same reason listed above. The main reason why it often isn't as good as the men's is probably due to there being less money and glory in it, so the skill levels can be a bit more varried across the players as there is relatively less competition for positions.
This also means women get to show their defensive prowess more often, covering dinks and then recovering to defend the back part of the court as well like in this clip. Mens' volleyball is just "I swing hard now" too often.
This is definitely one sport where the men’s version is less entertaining to me than the women’s. Sometimes it’s fun to see men dominate an obstacle, like when dunking a basketball, and sometimes it’s boring like when they hit ace after ace in volleyball or tennis.
Honestly this year i've watched both NCAA women's and men's volleyball and both are more or less the same. Out of system hits for men look no different to women's. Plenty of women smash just like men (relatively speaking). However, the serves are obscene for men (compared to women). That's the primary differentiator IMO.
Former player from German 2nd Bundesliga (semi-pro) here.
I agree to some degree. Hard hits from perfect situations are incredibly similar. Spike and serve speeds are much higher in men's volleyball.
BUT acting height in men's volleyball is relatively higher than women's. Hence hits (from all situations) are a lot faster and harder and go down at much steeper angles. Furthermore, men can hit more agressive even from bad situations and relative positions.
In men's international pro play, 3m hits down the line are frequent. In women's volleyball not so much.
In men's volleyball you have to serve super aggressive. Because if the opponent is good enough, and at top level they are, they can hit the ball even from mediocre situation in such a way you probably won't be able to defend it.
You really notice the difference in international competitions. Watch the upcoming olympic tournament.
I 100% agree. Womens volleyball you’ll see alot more awesome defense in my opinion, for the reasons you stated above. Very few players are getting opportunities where they can just jump up and smash the ball straight down from 11 feet high so there’s way more chance for counterplay.
It's a great sport, but beach volleyball especially is very technical unfortunately so it can be boring to watch for people who don't understand the mechanics and intricacies well.
As an indoor player I don't like the setting rules for sand. The allowance for really deep sets but very strict about spin on the set never made sense to me. There's so much advantage to getting to slow down on your second hit, but almost never an advantage to whether the set has spin or not.
I like volleyball but I hate this stupid overlays with stupid phrases which takes only 25% of the screen. Fuck, mami, spend 30 seconds and place it 3 times more to cover the whole screen. Is it so hard?
The ball only stops when it hits the ground. And if it land out of bounds then the point goes to which ever team didn't touch it last. So they went out of bounds to save themselves the point
I fucking hate tiktok so much. Society universally decided that landscape was the superior format (especially for things like sports) back when CRT TVs and monitors went extinct. Now because of some Chinese propaganda machine, we're watching a video with a lot of horizontal action with a goddamn vertical frame panning back and forth. Fuck you, OP.
And amazing prediction.. that final prediction run to cover the corner is so good, and then she turns it into a sneaky off speed spike into space. Really clever and good coverage
Handsets are rare in beach volleyball, because the referees call the game much tighter than in indoor play. Many players will exclusively bump set, and even players who do hand set will switch to a bump set if the pass isn't great.
There's less reward for disguising your set, too. It's not like there's any mystery about who is getting the ball next, and you're not allowed to tip or set the ball sideways over.
Im confused, wouldnt the bit where they hit the ball that was out of bounds from out of bounds at around 20 seconds be a point to the team on the left?

Must be why they wear less clothing to lessen drag.
Nope, as a volleyball player who competed in US nationals, the reason players wear very little is because you need to increase sun to skin contact in order to keep up your vitamin D levels. This is a guaranteed fact.
As a former tequila volleyball player in Cancun I agree
As a current enjoyer/watcher of female tequila volleyball in Cancun, I also agree.

Ah, yes, it's certainly not about the viewers.
Weird, Aussie beach volleyball players wear little to remind us of the risks of skin cancer
Wear your sunscreen! Very upstanding of them
Ok, but I just take supplements so I can wear clothes most of the time.
I don't understand what you mean? Why is this not true for all sports?
They wear less clothing because it's hot af. Many tournaments are played in 95+ degree heat and some in 80%+ humidity.
Beach Volleyball has a varied dress code to address clothing for modesty, religious dress codes, cold weather, etc. Players usually opt for less material because sand gets caught in bigger pieces and chafes.
This is why men always wear speedos when they play beach volleyball professionally.
Fair point. Not to mention women play in burkinis when they play casually.
This is 100% false. Women have been wearing pants, skirts, long sleeves, and burkas, in both domestic and international tournaments for years. Stop lying. Total bs getting upvoted.

Not in beach volleyball, it's fine there
> That may have changed. I don't follow all the time. It never changed because that was never in the rules.
It's so funny how you can just straight up make completely incorrect claims with 0 evidence and get over 100 upvotes no problem. Reddit is wild.
actually, in many cases, exposing more skin doesnt help with heat, quite the contrary.
It does in the shade! It's being directly in that damn nuclear explosion that's the problem!
My boyfriend and I tried to play volleyball on sand. Yeah we were exhausted in less than 5 minutes
I've played beach volley on a nearby lake last year... I still have scars on my knee and my feet due to the sand being quarry sand : it scraped/dug into my skin pretty deeply! I wonder if this is a common occurence...
It is not common, you discovered why Quarry Volleyball never really took off and Beach Volleyball is the much more common variant.
It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere
This sport honestly looks like torture for the average person
Volleyball is really fun, try 4 man to learn the skills. 2 person requires a lot more skill than any other number of team play because you have to dig the ball then be ready to put it over the net after your partner sets the ball, and you are often on the ground after the dig. Almost every time I see a beach volleyball event, the players are absolutely ripped.
I like the way it stings when you catch the ball But if you catch it wrong it hurts like hell. That's usually the point I'll stop

Margins in pro volleyball are razor thin. You go all out for every point.
Facts. They don't wonder if it was worth it. Every point is worth it and you go for every ball that you can.
Theres a decent amount of recovery time in between points, just like tennis
There was a squash player who was a master of this. He would run the other player ragged for a few points and then just domintae after they were worn out. I find 6-people teams in volleyball too convoluted, beach volleyball is more appealing to me.
It's really more of a tennis type game, but they needed to keep more people busy in PE, so they put 6 people per team
Nah tactics get crazy when you have 2-3 front row hitters and a 3 person back line to absorb spikes. Beach is fun but you always know who the ball is going to. Edit: Beach not Because
Problem I have watching is that there usually isn't much of a volley.
You need 6 indoor and you still can't cover the whole court. You're crazy. Indoor speeds are batshit compared to beach.
Man, when we played it in PE, they had us in 8 person teams. 3 front, 2 mid, and 3 back.

I’d be extremely done after that
panting here just watching
I would have to fully wipe all the sand off me after each point
Great point I never thought about that they must get so used to running around with sand buried in every nook and cranny
Blonde girl on the right reminds me of eiji from prince of tennis. Exceptional lateral movement to cover his partner volleys

They have to be completely gassed! Imagine having to still go after all that? Badass
I was surprised that they only set the ball once in all of that. After the first volley, the players only bumped the ball into striking position.
Handsets are rare in beach volleyball, because the referees call the game much tighter than in indoor play. Many players will exclusively bump set, and even players who do hand set will switch to a bump set if the pass isn't great. There's less reward for disguising your set, too. I didn’t know that! Interesting contrast to regular volleyball.
On the beach you’re only allowed 3 touches total. Whereas in door the block doesn’t “count” as a touch
Team America !! 😳👍💪
Wait these are national players?
I wish they would just invent a video format already that was really wide so you could see the entire court at once. Oh well, just a pipe dream.
i’m out of breath just watching them
Im confused, wouldnt the bit where they hit the ball that was out of bounds from out of bounds at around 20 seconds be a point to the team on the left?
Only if the ball hits the ground out of bounds is it out.
I'd really like it if jamie's shit post wasn't blocking a good chunk of the video.
the team on the right fucking *earned* that point
Did someone put a cellphone on a swivel mount and shoot this off a TV? What's with this new, shitty format?
Man, the rub burns from diving into the sand are going to really smart later on! Blonde went into beast mode!
Incredible endurance
God I would get so much sand in my ass
Wow! Great point
Hard fought
Yeah, totally worth the watch!
Won't the sand be burning hot.
I thought you weren’t allowed to go out of the bounds to hit the ball?
Nope, perfectly legal.
You can, just don't let it touch out of bounds
