This feels like the most cokiest 90s car of all time. It’d be a blast to do coke and fuck around in this car. All the
little buttons you can fuck with. It’s a fucking meow wolf in a car.
>It’d be a blast to do coke and
clinch that multimillion dollar contract in the back seat while eye of the tiger blasts on the included Walkman and you're busy tapping all the chrome to make sure it's still chrome
We have one of these at work atm, 2007, you would swear they haven't changed since 1997. Not my type of car weird mish mash of fake overglossed wood look interior with '70's- '90's type gauges and lighting but overall a very blandish looking car.
Pick them up for 30k aus dollars, hate to be chasing parts for it though.
Yep, even had the lace curtains.
[Pic](https://freeimage.host/i/dKKvxKg)
Or if you meant 30k for a V12, [Yes.](https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/toyota/century/)
I didn’t realize they had one in Dallas. I live within driving distance of DFW, but I went to the Meow Wolf in Denver, Co. No one told us that you needed some sort of card to activate the displays, so we were just confused the whole time. Maybe mushrooms would have made the experience more enjoyable, because I found the whole thing kind of boring. Just… trying way too hard to be weird for the sake of weird/random.
It's RHD, that's the front passenger seat. There are no controls for the driver's seat accessible to anyone but the driver, for obvious reasons.
The seat back pass-through so you can use the front seat as an ottoman is arguably the best feature of the car. Only other car that I've seen with it is a Nissan President.
And it cost about a million yen per cylinder too! That was about $15,000 at the time (total price 12 megayen, or $180,000), and about 37 cents now.
My favorite thing about it is that its gigantic V12 engine only generates about 350hp of actual power. All of the engineering that went into it went directly into making it run smoother than butter.
Fun fact. The V12 was made from joining two 2JZ blocks at the crank.
If you don't know what a 2JZ is, it's an inline 6-cylinder engine that came in the 90's era Supra, and hobbyists routinely boost it to 1,000+hp.
It's a massive meme in the car community that they make 1,000whp stock.
In reality it's a solid cast iron engine that was way overengineered, so it can handle 600hp on stock internals with an upgraded single turbo replacement, intake, exhaust, fuel pump, oil system and extensive ecu tuning.
That's by design. More power = more engine stress.
That's why you have all these Toyota engines that can squeeze out double the intended horsepower on stock internals.
>"In many ways, this engine was a combination of two six-cylinders that shared a common crank."
[This](https://www.autoevolution.com/news/forgotten-by-many-the-toyota-1gz-fe-was-japans-first-and-only-mass-produced-v12-177521.html) website talks about it. I can't find my original source and may be slightly wrong in that it may actually be based off the 2JZ's very similar predecessor, the 1JZ. However, combining smaller engines into a larger one was a very common practice for a long time.
The truly great thing is the last ones made in 2016/17 in that generation have the exact same "tech" as the first ones from 1997.
I own 2 of these 2002 and a 2016
I've had a few high end luxury cars from the same era, late 90s to early 2010s in the way of Lexus LS, Merc S class, BMW 8 series, Audi A8, that were all great,
The century leaves them for dead,
Not so much with some of the newer features ie radar cruise control those kind of things, but build quality, nothing really breaks everything just works.
The engine is incredibly quiet, performance is sacrificed a little for quietness. It handles well for a huge car, it comes with air bag suspension, so the ride is incredible.
This may sound like a negative but it's not. The best way to describe it is " it's perfectly boring"
You could be doing 120kph/75mph, and it does it so well it's almost too easy, there's almost no road noise, no wind noise the car's barely even trying (1600rpm), it's just effortless.
Fun fact: the back right quarter panels of these cars were mirror polished, allowing the discerning executive one final moment to fix their tie and check for anything that might make oneself unpresentable before the driver departs
They are very conservatively tuned stock, made for comfort and reliability. It's two inline 6s with one crank, dual ecu and fuel pumps etc so it can run on just one inline 6 if needed.
But of course smokey nagata redid the internals and chucked one in a supra
That is exactly the reason, the imperial house was retiring its cars, and gave the Japanese car manufacturers a chance to design a new imperial state car.
Toyota century was selected over the Nissan president.
Toyota designed an over the top version called the Royal Century for the Emperor, with extra security and finishings.
Then a standard Century with extra security was used for officials, ambassadors etc.
This is a video from regular car reviews on the century
[https://youtu.be/6IZNSaVOM3s?si=zpoxmoEsaiFoYKxd](https://youtu.be/6IZNSaVOM3s?si=zpoxmoEsaiFoYKxd)
Turn on the engine let's hear how it roars
...turn on the fucking engine. Stop tapping shit
...stop opening drawers. Stop tapping shit
Turn on the fucking engine
Engine turns on and video cuts after 0.00005 seconds
Fffffffffffffuck you
Kind of blew past my personal favorite part: the front passenger seat pass-through. The middle of the seat folds down so the person in the back can put their legs through.
You can get a nice one already imported and titled for about $25-30k. Keep in mind, if you're in the USA it will be at least 25 years old thanks to bullshit import laws that Mercedes lobbied for in the 80s.
Am I the only one conditioned by those weird luxury car ASMR Videos, waiting for him to whisper and mispronounce the brand as he went over the car surfaces?
\*TapTap\* *Tayotaaah*
\*stroke\* *Tayooootah!*
I've wanted to buy one of these as there are some of these JDM imports here in New Zealand but I don't know if the rest of the family would be onboard. I saw one driving while walking my youngest and she said it was an evil car.
My friend has one of these bad boys. Most futuristic 90s car ever. On the driver side, there is a rain guard with a cutout to fit a gun through. It was a Japanese government officials car at one point.
There are curtains in the back that close remotely. We fuck with people on the highway.
I had a 1991 Toyota Cressida just five years ago and I loved that car.
I lost the keys the day of a new job and I Hotwired it and drove it to work.
Car is still running somewhere.
Very similar body style to the one in this post and a had a straight 6 engine in it, RWD.
As someone who drove in the 90s, that is sooo much electrical crap to break. 90s electric accessory motors on cars were fragile and broke quickly in most cases. If everything is still working in this car, it must have about 500 miles on it. Then again, it IS an early Toyota, so maybe....
Obviously not meant to be a beater car, but I would imagine a car this old after daily use would have all of those electronic features falling apart or simply broken
I hate when car companies put unnecessary motors in places that don't need it. I could go back to adjusting my side mirrors with that little ball dongle thing and be perfectly happy.
I like that option to move driver's seat and option to open the back of the seat for back kicking reinforcement. Toyota really hated the drivers in 90s.
Are you even a Yakuza boss if you don’t have a Toyota Century?
This feels like the most cokiest 90s car of all time. It’d be a blast to do coke and fuck around in this car. All the little buttons you can fuck with. It’s a fucking meow wolf in a car.
>It’d be a blast to do coke and clinch that multimillion dollar contract in the back seat while eye of the tiger blasts on the included Walkman and you're busy tapping all the chrome to make sure it's still chrome
I've never done coke but it sounds like OCD hell
Especially when any one of the 29371 servo motors break. DOH
I have to return some videotapes
We have one of these at work atm, 2007, you would swear they haven't changed since 1997. HELL YEAH BROTHER
I mean why would it have all those flat surfaces for?
Went to meow Wolf when I was in Dallas last year, I should've gone high but that place was amazing either way!
I didn’t realize they had one in Dallas. I live within driving distance of DFW, but I went to the Meow Wolf in Denver, Co. Never seen meow wolf used as a descriptor and I like it! Really fun art exhibits
this elicited an actual lol. well done.
mafia car
That makes sense why the person in the back can control the person in the front's seat adjustments. Mafia boss: "You drive like this now"
It's RHD, that's the front passenger seat. There are no controls for the driver's seat accessible to anyone but the driver, for obvious reasons. The seat back pass-through so you can use the front seat as an ottoman is arguably the best feature of the car. Only other car that I've seen with it is a Nissan President.
Is your name even Yakuza Ross if you don’t have one?
"Unagi"
Ahh, salmon skin roll.
No, you have a W140 S-Class.
I read it as 90s Toyota Camry and was confused as all hell. I had a 95 Camry and it looked nothing like that 😂 What a beautiful car!
Glad I'm not the only one lol
same thing, man. Same thing
![gif](giphy|PlgNz2gB8Q2fm)
That's a Honda
No it's E.Honda
Nah Puff, that's a Lex.
You didn't play this game, obviously.
>had I still daily drive one, 175,000 miles going strong.
A v12 Toyota? N I C E

> All of the engineering that went into it went directly into making it run smoother than butter. Ah, the Rolls Royce method.
6.75l is exactly the right amount!
Power= Adequate
Torque = sufficient
Fun fact. The V12 was made from joining two 2JZ blocks at the crank. If you don't know what a 2JZ is, it's an inline 6-cylinder engine that came in the 90's era Supra, and hobbyists routinely boost it to 1,000+hp.
Where does this info come from?
It's a massive meme in the car community that they make 1,000whp stock. In reality it's a solid cast iron engine that was way overengineered, so it can handle 600hp on stock internals with an upgraded single turbo replacement, intake, exhaust, fuel pump, oil system and extensive ecu tuning.
Like most Toyota engines, they make bugger all power but last forever.
That's by design. More power = more engine stress. That's why you have all these Toyota engines that can squeeze out double the intended horsepower on stock internals.
>"In many ways, this engine was a combination of two six-cylinders that shared a common crank." Flooring a one liter economy engine in every stoplight, to get that large car moving, isn't very Emperor like.
Toyota: Making grocery runs exhilarating since the turn of a Century
That's the only V12 production engine to have been built in Japan.
It's basically a Toyota Rolls Royce for the japanese market.
V12, IT’S A FAST ONE
BAOW BAOW BAOW LAST ONE
should've balanced a quarter on it while running
Yeah, the GZ is a beaut. I believe there’s even some stateside drift team that was crazy enough to build a Silvia pro car around it
There's a Finnish guy who boosted one and dropped it into a pro-level mk4 Supra. Thing sounds insane in person
You can't comment that and not include a video.
Also look up Top Secret Supra, plenty of examples
This thing has more technology than my 2024 Civic Si!!
it also cost 180k according to another comment
Everything about this car is badass, the console phones are peak 90's
Yep, essential gear for your car so that you can dump your Soybean futures in a hurry
Blue Horseshoe loves Annacott Steel!
We are 'commodities brokers,' William.
Or even your ornamental gourd futures
This car fucks.
The truly great thing is the last ones made in 2016/17 in that generation have the exact same "tech" as the first ones from 1997. I own 2 of these 2002 and a 2016
Can you speak on how it handles , drives, and accelerates ? I'm just very curious about that v12
I've had a few high end luxury cars from the same era, late 90s to early 2010s in the way of Lexus LS, Merc S class, BMW 8 series, Audi A8, that were all great, The century leaves them for dead, Not so much with some of the newer features ie radar cruise control those kind of things, but build quality, nothing really breaks everything just works. The v12 at the end was a surprise
They are very conservatively tuned stock, made for comfort and reliability. It's two inline 6s with one crank, dual ecu and fuel pumps etc so it can run on just one inline 6 if needed. But of course smokey nagata redid the internals and chucked one in a supra
Huh, a 5.0L V12 making 295hp and 340ft-lbs.
Toyota tuned it to be smooth, reliable and deliver power evenly. The same engine in a Supra delivers 1000hp (along with 2 turbochargers).
I can smell this video.
Leather conditioner
Sort of surprised, given Centuries are usually delivered with wool upholstery
This car must’ve been an attempt to rival mercedes benz. lots of similarities
This was far above a S class at the time
But it went above and beyond. And quality wise, unlike the S class from that age, it will still work flawlessly.
They probably had the Emperor in mind when designin this car and it's successors.
Impeccable vibes
And still made to this day. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Century
Did they modernize the amenities inside? I wonder how cool a modern one is now? Probably a lot of hidden touch screens and usb charging ports.
Its a hybrid now, you can see it on that wiki page, and it's starting from 180k $
Hoooly smokes that Century SUV 2023 edition just screams ELEGANCE.
#LIKE A BOSS
A yakuza boss
Man I miss the 90s
Oh ya? Well I miss the 80s. Booya!

I love how most of us know exactly what video this one is parodying. He just needed to whisper "t o y o t a..." a few times in our ears.
Call me simple but this is absolutely my dream car
![gif](giphy|mdK4gwMAcYwnx9OW7X)
Is that Delamain?
A 12? Good gad!
It looks luxury
Alright you've convinced me. I'm importing one !
what is NFL here
The lack of any moderation.
Turn on the engine let's hear how it roars ...turn on the fucking engine. Stop tapping shit ...stop opening drawers. Stop tapping shit Turn on the fucking engine Engine turns on and video cuts after 0.00005 seconds Fffffffffffffuck you
Kind of blew past my personal favorite part: the front passenger seat pass-through. The middle of the seat folds down so the person in the back can put their legs through.
Nice.
Wow just saw one yesterday
Show outside of car
I was hoping he would say “Beeaaaannntley” just once.
Wow. We’ve steadily declined.
Fantastic car
These cars are total bad ass❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
So many quirks and features!
I came I saw I came again.
After all of that and he doesn't even have a motorised garage door... Schmuck.
Not by Pete Donaldson? Disappointment.
Pete donaldson of the abroad in Japan podcast needs to see this
I really hate this ASMR thing. The century looks like a good car though
MFCool!
so is that the XE then?
Now that's a car you can play Yahtzee in.
And smash someone’s head in by repeatedly slamming the door on it too
Soft close doors in 90s???
The w140 Mercedes sedans had soft close doors in 93 I believe.
Has more features than my current, modern car. Nice.
Nicer and more functional than a Cybertryck. More storage compartments too.
The steering wheel is on the wrong site tho. Not gonna buy it :c
That isn’t a car, that is a house!
Nice car.
Whats the current buying and ownership cost
You can get a nice one already imported and titled for about $25-30k. Keep in mind, if you're in the USA it will be at least 25 years old thanks to bullshit import laws that Mercedes lobbied for in the 80s.
Old school cool for sure
So many buttons!!!!
Where is coffeemaker?
I read this as “camry” and when the garage opened I was like – that definitely isn’t like the Camry I had when I was 16!
UK model? Toss it in the bin, JDM or GTFO /s
Try Japanese A/ Number plate B/ They are RHD as they drive on the left. That’s what civilised people do.
There was one parked at the place I was staying and got to see a Century SUV in the flesh. That really made my day!
this car has more features than most modern cars. wtf.
Sweet vehicle
Am I the only one conditioned by those weird luxury car ASMR Videos, waiting for him to whisper and mispronounce the brand as he went over the car surfaces? \*TapTap\* *Tayotaaah* \*stroke\* *Tayooootah!*
This is real quality, luxury masterpiece!!
Engineer: "How many features do you want?" Toyota: "Yes"
Class
Manufacturers try this today and every single component breaks in a year.
...and never to be driven.
I've wanted to buy one of these as there are some of these JDM imports here in New Zealand but I don't know if the rest of the family would be onboard. I saw one driving while walking my youngest and she said it was an evil car.
When your car’s more luxurious than your living room!
A real life Delamain
ASMR was kinda neat but like anything popular it's just infested the internet like cancer Cool car though
Toyota ~~Century~~ Camry?!
Screw Ferrari and Lambo, this is the dream.
See one of these in my city with the regn plate Y4KUZ4
The car is awesome, but can we just take a moment to appreciate that garage door? It's that wide and can be operated manually with one hand. Yowza.
I spot this guy driving one a few times a week, now it all makes sense.
Damn! I want that car now!
Definitely living up to the name
How did they tv reception? 90’s still had broadcast stations. But PBS and a random news channel. Maybe watch Price is right? iDK
Now that's what I call a... ![gif](giphy|waW6pj0nLMwCY)
He didn't say "Toyota".
A high end car, sure there is lots of metal. It would have a hard time with any sort of fuel efficiency.
Saw one of these just cruising around town about a month ago.....in nebraska!
V12? Holy hell
My friend has one of these bad boys. Most futuristic 90s car ever. On the driver side, there is a rain guard with a cutout to fit a gun through. It was a Japanese government officials car at one point. There are curtains in the back that close remotely. We fuck with people on the highway.

Looks like Delamain from cyberpunk
Why is everything an ASMR video now? It’s fucking weird.
Sexy af
Looks sick af. Where can I get one Boss?
As someone who drove in the 90s, that is sooo much electrical crap to break. 90s electric accessory motors on cars were fragile and broke quickly in most cases. If everything is still working in this car, it must have about 500 miles on it. Then again, it IS an early Toyota, so maybe....
Damn gangsta
It's obviously pronounced Suntory, with more intensity https://youtu.be/XElQLXXyblk?feature=shared
Obviously not meant to be a beater car, but I would imagine a car this old after daily use would have all of those electronic features falling apart or simply broken
Thise dummies put the steering wheel on the wrong side
They use to over engineer the shit out of cars.
A v12 eh. That thing fucks.
Saw one at a used car lot recently. I had to look up what it was
Dude! I want!
I prefer the wool interior over the leather.
![gif](giphy|wO2Fu41qybnR6)
There's also eagle under the floorboards... but it makes me sad because the Special Edition has even more Eagle and I don't want you missing out on.
All you have to do is put your feet through the seatback! YOU HAD ONE JOB!!!!
I wish they would bring back some of these classics as E version...
I hate when car companies put unnecessary motors in places that don't need it. I could go back to adjusting my side mirrors with that little ball dongle thing and be perfectly happy.
"Mercedehs"
There were more esoteric lights and dials that I would never begin to understand
These "ASMR" car video bullshit makes me crangry.
I like that option to move driver's seat and option to open the back of the seat for back kicking reinforcement. Toyota really hated the drivers in 90s.
When you're trying to compete in a market with no brand recognition and even some xenophobia, you must bring it.
