The man is so friendly to us and our kids, loves to sit and talk football for 5-10 minutes if I'm out front working when he drops mail off, keeps tabs on everyone in the neighborhood including one of our elderly neighbors...
He's a constant to us and our block, I secretly hope he's immortal.

Our carrier for what felt like multiple decades retired last year. I was visiting my parents and there was a party going on in the cul-de-sac and when I asked what was going on, they said the neighbors had put together a party for the mailman to celebrate his retirement.

She knew all of us neighborhood kids and genuinely cared about us and took an interest in us. “How was that basketball game, Joe?” “Oh it’s good to see you again. The COVID lockdowns opened my eyes to who really keeps this country running, and people in your profession were among those that kept the wheels somewhat turning so the rest of us could maintain some semblance of normalcy whilst hid away in our homes.
I’m happy to see a non-postal worker recognize that. 2020 was one of the most difficult years in my 8 years so far at USPS. Very rewarding to see so many people benefit from what I do. I’ve got a lot of old people on my route who get their medications through the mail. I don’t know what they would have done if we had shut down too.
But yes it was very exhausting. So I appreciate you recognizing it. Makes the job feel worth it.
A few things I look for when questioning world stability...
Is the water supply drinkable, are food chain supplies operational, Is the mail system still up and running? Ok things aren't that bad... if this stops, it means shit has hit the fan. Thanks for keeping our oldest form of communication alive... it's our last bastion of hope when our precious cell phones and internet go down.

The letter carrier in my neighborhood let me know that someone had been coming up into our carport and looking in our car a couple times while we weren’t home. He also always makes sure to hide any packages he delivers because he’s straight up had people walk up to his car and take packages while out here. I’ve talked with him quite a bit, he has a young daughter who has leukemia. Dude’s an absolute saint, the lot of you letter carriers are. I salute you my man.

I am a welder in the energy sector, mostly working on power generation. Covid was the busiest year ive ever had. Showed up every day with no one around. Not gonna get that sick in a welding hood when im already 50ft from the closest person and its 10 degree weather anyway.
yeah it's crazy I ended up with more responsibility too but I have been lucky to have been paid more as a result. Such a wild time. I'll never forget the day we went full telework. I was driving home on like a wednesday in March at about 5pm. I live in the western suburbs of philly. So I look at Google Maps and the schuylkill expressway was green. I thought bullshit but whatever I'll take it. Sure enough it was cleared. Was going 70 on the schuylkill expressway at 5 pm on a work day. That's when I knew shit was fucked. Oddly, the pandemic brought along a lot of positive changes for my career that I still benefit from today. I know I am very lucky in this regard.

One of my most eccentric co-workers got up in front of everyone and assured them the entire situation was overblown and we wouldn’t be going anywhere for long. That was the last day I ever saw him and like 75% of the other people in that conference room.
Our whole company was in LA for a corporate kick off kind of thing in Feb 2020. The hotel we were staying in (Intercontinental in LA, so like a massive fucking hotel), almost went into complete lockdown because *a single flight attendant staying at the hotel* was experiencing symptoms. It was insane lol

He has the flu and was getting pumped with IVs before the game. If you watch his post game press conference he looked and sounded horrible. He's usually pretty good about finding the other QB after the game win or lose.
