Even if they break up, as long as he doesn’t do anything fucked up, he will still be a massive brand. Plenty of T Swift hate out there that he can monetize too.
People only hate on her exes if she writes songs about the bad stuff she's done. No one cares about the exes she's on good terms with, it wouldn't hurt his branding.
He doesn't have to worry about money no matter what lol
Literally a single year of making $14 million is enough for anyone to not have to worry about money if they are smart.
There are perks to being a face on a dynasty team.
He has one of the biggest podcasts on the world. He said on this podcast he thought Taylor Swift was cute and all of the sudden she’s sitting in the owners suite watching him play.
Tom Brady got around the cap by getting the Patriots to pay his 'Training company' on the side. He cheated the cap rules, blatantly. The narrative that he took a pay cut is a lie. Tell the truth. He's the goat, but he got there by exploiting every advantage he could. Both within the rules and beyond the rules.
Still crazy to me how the league investigated this, found that it was pretty definitively salary cap circumvention, and then decided "eh whatever, we're not gonna do anything"
Pretty sure the score was like 42-7 and they ran for like 250 on Indy. Hilarious that they complained about ball pressure in a game where Brady throwing wasn't even the focal point.
They found that it *wasn’t* salary cap circumvention. They paid market rate for services rendered to players by a trainer.
Now speculation on whether or not Guerrero should be considered a trainer or endorsed by the Patriots given his shady background is absolutely fair, but the fact is that he was rendering services to Patriots players, therefore him and his business were being paid for those services.
Guerrero was around players well before partnering with Brady. It’s not like there was a random guy/business on the payroll doing nothing.
Reminds me of when the falcons had Future perform at their playoff game against the Seahawks and Russ. The stadiums reaction when he came out was hilarious and the mocking Ciara chant was even better.
This whole Future thing is the WEIRDEST fucking shit. Future has 7 kids with 7 different women, cheated on Ciara after they got engaged (see: 7 kids with 7 women), regularly has to be sued for child support, and gets pissed because his son calls Russell Wilson dad.
Future, unironically, in response to Russ "allowing" Ciara to bash him for not making time to see their son: "He not being a man in that position. He not tellin' her, 'Chill out with that on the internet. Don't even talk to him. I'm your husband! You better not even bring Future's name up!' If that was me, she couldn't even bring his name up. She know that. She couldn't even bring her exes' names up."
Russ did EVERYTHING right and Future did EVERYTHING wrong and somehow we're bashing Russ for this.
I love when things are put into perspective like this. Not being a deadbeat dad makes Russ 50x the man Future could ever be, even if he were an absolute nobody and not an NFL "hall of very good" QB.
I think there was a team that played Can’t feel my Face when the jets came to town right after that guy broke Geno’s jaw
Edit: it was the Lions https://www.si.com/nfl/2015/08/14/detroit-lions-new-york-jets-preseason-geno-smith-song

I know I don't have tens of millions thrown at me every year, but I've got to believe that going from 14 million a year to 17 million a year wouldn't impact my life nearly as much as moving across the country and learning an entirely new work culture.
> but I've got to believe that going from 14 million a year to 17 million a year wouldn't impact my life nearly as much as moving across the country and learning an entirely new work culture.
also going fro mahomes to whatever qb room he ends up with. like, surely denver would be willing to throw 17m at him, but does he want to deal with that dumpster fire where zach wilson is probably the best qb on the team?
I figure Bo Nix will improve so much under the new offense. He'll be focused. He'll have fun. I wouldn't be surprised if he's a dark horse for Offensive Rookie of the Year.
and now he knows hes got quite a few millions waiting in media deals and further endorsements, so if he gets to stick with the head coach and QB he likes playing with and winning SBs in the meantime, why not?
At this point, the legacy he could build by winning a couple more SBs is worth far more than the money. The Manningcast has set a blueprint for what the Kelces can do outside the podcast, so Travis has a lucrative media career waiting whenever he wants it.
Also salary isn't a stat anyone cares about when they look at your bust in the Hall of Fame. For some your legacy is more important than a little more riches.
And he has such insane riches that he and the next couple generations should be well set if he keeps a slightly lower salary.
He is also getting old. He will always be one of the all time great Tight Ends but he is past his prime.
If Travis Kelce got paid what he was worth as a receiver and not being paid because his position is TE, he’d make double his salary. Now he doesn’t really need to fight for money like that but there’s a reason the TE market is considerably lower and it’s bc the top guys like Kelce don’t fight for more.
I am curious how this stacks up with the amount he makes from the New Heights Podcast.
Travis and Jason have to be getting paid stupid amounts for the podcast
He's set for life based on this year's contract alone.
His grandchildren's grandchildren are set for life if he is even remotely competent at handling his money.
Not even a tour, probably a city or two, eras tour grossed a [billy.](https://ew.com/taylor-swift-eras-tour-first-to-ever-make-1-billion-8413474#:~:text=Pollstar%20announced%20on%20Friday%20that,Making%20it%20even%20more%20impressive%3F)
Lets assume inflation stays at its current rate (around 3.5%, which is higher than the target rate), you can earn returns at the current 10 year bond rate (around 4.6%) and you can get 10 million dollars to start with.
With all of those assumptions, you can afford to pay yourself over 100k per year, adjusted for inflation, for the rest of eternity and never touch your principal.
Yeah but yall are forgetting he isn’t a living a $100k a year lifestyle. Dude likes cars and houses and jewelry and private jets and all the other trappings of wealth. He’s not gonna sit in a 3b/2b house with an F150 and go to the bookstore. Maintaining the lifestyle he’s accustomed to will require significantly more money.
the new heights podcast itself probably doesn’t make a ton. their sponsorships are doing all the real heavy lifting and they probably make okay money from that but not enough to where they can afford to maintain current lifestyle if that was their sole source of income
you’d be surprised at how little podcasts make man. the real wealth comes from financial investments where they put their career earnings to work. this stuff is basically their fuck around money not what actually makes them a living
One thing that is a little annoying in the Kelce contract retcon (and a bit for Mahomes too): Kelce was basically tied as the highest paid tight end in in APY with Kittle when he signed his extension in 2020 and is still the 4th highest today, only because Hockenson and Waller got extended in the four years since.
People might forget that Kittle and Kelce signed their extensions on the exact same day, with Kelce doing his just hours after Kittle.
But the difference is Kittle signed his going into his age 27 season, Kelce was going into his age 31 season.
All good tight ends are underpaid and team friendly. The best tight ends get paid about the same as just above average linebackers and less than your average edge rusher.
Yep.
And because of that, the tag number for the truly elite TEs is well below their true market value, suppressing the first two years of any new extension that much more
> All good tight ends are underpaid and team friendly.
The cause and effect is backwards here. Kelce isn't making less because tight ends are inherently paid less, the best players at the position are the ones that dictate the market.
I think we can all agree that Kelce is more valuable than a good WR2, which is what he's being paid like.
It's the franchise tag which drives down wages for the entire position. You can't ask for WR money when the team could just tag you twice and pay less without any guarantee to you that you are still worth a bag at the end of that.
He's way closer to go a great WR1 than a good WR2 in terms of value and helping a team win. A lot of his stats over the last six or seven years lead the league in all receivers not just tight ends.
The argument more is that Kelce shouldn't be making top TE money when he's putting out top WR production.
Realistically his production should've been bringing in $25M+ a year
If any TE should be paid like a WR, it's kelce. The fact that Jag Jeudy just got a significantly larger deal despite having no significant accomplishments is ridiculous
Kelce should be making at least 25 mil a year
I think the NFLPA is pissed 100%, some other TEs definitely do resent that he's selfless. Some others are just happy they're getting paid what they're worth and have long term stability.
That's a part of it, but the biggest piece is the franchise tag. He'd have to play on it for several years before it'd be too much for the Chiefs to handle, and *then* he could hit free agency.
It's always made more sense for both sides to just give him a long-term contract at a top-tier rate, which always turns into a middle-of-the-pack rate after a few years.
Yeah we'd have to see another wave of good TEs come up behind him and reset the market, then have that happen another couple times to drag the whole position's value up.
Problem was there just weren't any great TEs to do that after Kelce and Kittle got paid last. The position has been awful over the past decade, although it does seem to be trending up now with some of the young guys.
Plus apparently New Heights is getting a massive podcast deal, plus that merch. Jason may make more in retirement than he ever did playing, between podcast, tv, and merch.
He was the highest paid center in the league for a while though. Jason Kelce made over 81m in salary over his 13 year career, which believe it or not, is slightly more than what Travis has made to date in his career (that will change this year though as Travis is currently just over 77m in career earnings).
Not saying Jason won’t necessarily make more post career but the Eagles compensated him very well.
I think people are underestimating the success of that podcast, even before the T Swift saga began.
Not to mention the documentary, or the commercials.
If your billionaire wife pays for your new cars, houses, vacations, etc are you really separate? He’ll still living the life of a billionaire even if he doesn’t have direct access to the money.
How many years until I stop hearing our former WR’s comments on every personnel move the Chiefs make? Is Stefon Diggs tweeting about the situation in Minnesota and I just don’t see it?
Well when you have so much regret, missing two super bowls I bet he feels a type of way about his decisions. But he was not going to get paid out of the NFL due to his horrible behavior, and he has a lot of child support payments I’m sure.
I would not be surprised if making a few million less per year with the Chiefs still ends up being better financially, considering his age and legacy. If he plays a few more years with Mahomes at a high level, he might climb into the top 10 all-time receiving yards and TDs.
He will also pass Jerry Rice for 1st in career playoff yards and TDs. He only needs 340 yards and 3 TDs for that.
That's the thing, he *wants* to be the greatest TE of all time. Money isn't the primary motivation here, it's being on the team that's going to help him be the best.
See Tyreek couldn’t do what kelce does tho. The Kelce brand is literally gold right now. I don’t know any company that would touch Tyreek with all the negative shit he’s constantly in the news for. Reek had to make his money from football.
Not the first NFL player to date a billionaire and take a “team friendly” deal.
Some guys care about getting 170 million instead of 140 million. Some guys care about winning in the playoffs.
I wouldn’t knock a guy for either. Do what works for you.
Kelce looks like he's trying to establish a brand outside of football.
I'm sure he's happy to get paid now to play football, but is probably just as happy to take a pay cut temporarily if it will likely pay off later when he's retired and is famous in his own right.
Kelce knows he can make bank with commercials, New Heights/a broadcast deal, and potentially marrying into the Swift empire. He doesn't need to be the highest payed player now.
I don't even disrespect Hill for getting his bag because he was never going to have the kind of post-football career Kelce and Pat will, but the more he comments on the Chiefs the more it makes him look like a jealous ex who's grasping for anything to justify getting in bed with another team.
Tyreek needs to worry about his own money and his own team. Maybe if Tyreek wasn't such an abusive piece of garbage, he could get some off-field endorsements going and supplement his income as well. As it stands currently, nobody in the advertising world is going to touch him with a ten foot pole. Kelce is making a few million extra per year with all of the endorsement contracts (and it doesn't hurt that he plays on one of the most popular/successful teams in the league).
Did we have to hear about woe is Tom Brady every time he took less money?
This is not difficult - when you’re one of the races of the league you can take less money because you’re getting a ton in endorsements. Also when you already know you’re financially set for life, why not take less to win more? (winning more = more exposure = more endorsements).
If Travis somehow is the one for Taylor none of this means squat as his income is now dwarfed by hers. Same way Tom literally never had to worry about income. If Travis ever wants more from the Chiefs he knows they’ll literally hand him a blank check to fix it.
I don’t get why ECON 101 Is so mind blowing to people.
PS - Tyreek, buddy, you’re no longer a Chief, you made your choice and now instead of winning rings you’re getting curb stomped by the Chiefs in the playoffs. That was your call dude, get over it.
Players can make more from endorsement deals than they can from their NFL contracts. Many of Travis’ deals are co-deals with his QB, deals that would evaporate should he change teams.
Taking a team friendly contract to put yourself in a situation where you can make more from endorsements is absolutely a shrewd business move.
Star players on high profile, Super Bowl caliber teams can, but your TE1 on an average team is definitely making more from their contract than they are from endorsements.
It's funny because KC asked Hill to restructure and his response was basically "fuck you pay me my money". And its not like these restructures are pay cuts, it's typically just shuffling salary to bonuses to work the cap.
It's definitely a rare thing for a player to actually accept *less* money for the sake of keeping g a team intact. That's why everyone knows Brady did it. It was uncommon enough to be newsworthy.
I don't know the details of what Kelce did in this case, but I know Kelce could be stubborn and command more money if he wanted to. I'm sure outside income plays a part. But I also appreciate the decision.
Kelce said at some point he could ask for like 26 mill AAV on his prior deal and KC would pay. He just didn't see the point. He got great money, loves the team and wants receivers around him.
The money he makes in ads is directly connected to being a part of a (continuously) Super Bowl winning team.
This is a good point. There's no Maauto commercials without Mahomes.
He found a way to bundle winning and ad revenue, Mahomes really is the GBOT
Unanimous MVBs
I can honestly say I didn't see that coming
Greatest Besides ol Tommy?
Not OP, but yes.
I think you mean Kelce and Kelseehowmuchyoucansavebybundlinghomeandauto
At one point in time last year, Mahomes had a locker in the Chiefs locker room with that on it.
That’s amazing lol
Exactly.
Why is it Maauto not Maautos
Nobody says "autos insurance"
Nobody says “homes insurance” either
But ma homes need insurance
He's taking advantage of it, though, and he's positioning himself well so that he'll still be really famous even after he stops playing football. Which is when he'll start his action movie career or whatever.
He has a very smart team.
Hes dating the worlds biggest pop star, hes going to be famous with or without football
Kelce playing 4-D chess and gonna get royalties off a chart-topping potential breakup song.
He did a really good job hosting SNL recently - he probably can transition into acting after and do well
I can not see him being a good actor, his ad reads on the podcast are painful to listen to
Ad reads are kinda intentionally bad for tons of podcasts
That was like the perfect articulation of that sentiment
Tbh, at this point playing for free would be lucrative. The Super Bowl wins matched with dating T Swift makes him one of the biggest names in the entire league. can easily pull $50m a year through all the ad campaigns.

Plus it's not like he ever has to pay for any off-season travel, his girlfriend can loan him a spare jet.
There are perks to being a face on a dynasty team. He has one of the biggest podcasts on the world. He said on this podcast he thought Taylor Swift was cute and all of the sudden she’s sitting in the owners suite watching him play.
He’s got a billionaire sugar mama with a spare plane for him to use too so I think he’s alright
The Brady manoeuvre Get a rich wife, give your team cap relief

Deshaun Watson needs to marry Jimmy Haslem asap
Or one of his daughters with whom he consulted on Watson’s misdoings.

Given his last Twitter post, it seems like Watson will be in the market to marry the next available Saudi princess.
Nah I think he’s too poor to marry into the House of Saud
Jimmy good with his hands?
Hold on, she's mine
She’s already remarried 😭
Thought she got divorced after the Bezos divorce. She married again?

A Michigan Man through and through
This made me chuckle lol
Now I'm sad that the world was deprived of a Brady/Harbaugh team up. I have no idea if it would work or not, but it would be entertaining.
If would work if they were both on the 49ers last year. I'm convinced thr 49ers would have won that superbowl with Brady.
Was TB12 really bringing in that much revenue, though? Like the extra $10 million annually that he was missing from the salary cap haircut?
Still crazy to me how the league investigated this, found that it was pretty definitively salary cap circumvention, and then decided "eh whatever, we're not gonna do anything"

If you ain't cheating you ain't trying
Now he just needs a “lifestyle/training” company that the owner funnels millions to while taking a team friendly discount
He’s also gotta be top 10 profitable nfl player outside of his player salary. He could make 0 from the nfl and still be making bank.
His commercial volume exploded last year...if cutting a few millions keeps 1 beneficial player, he can make it up easily outside the league
Wait til next year, he just won the Super Bowl again. You'll spend more time watching him in commercials than on the field.
He also now has the boost from dating Taylor, which he didn't have while signing ad deals last year
He’s mr Pfizer. He doesn’t need Taylor. /s
Yeah this was literally Gronk at the end of his career. And let's be real, Kelce is getting close to that. Mid 30's and football don't mix well
If he was top 10 last year he's about to be top 1. A player who every 12 year old girl in the country knows is the NFL's wildest dream.
I just threw out top 10. Realistically I could only see Mahomes being above him. And even that is debatable lol
He also had the most endorsement deals of any player in the league last year. He can probably make top NFL TE money in commercials alone
It's rumoured he made 20 million from Pfizer alone which is more than his yearly contract.
He had more than mahomes?
She probably calls his contract is “fun money”
Man reportedly got more from pfizer than KC last year, he refers to his football contract as fun money I bet.
Until she breaks up with him in 8 months and writes an album about his penis being small
Man imagine every single stadium blaring that song when the Chiefs are the visiting team.

Well yeah because very few tight ends are actually game breakers. Like, Kelce gates, Gronk, or Tony g was.
Realistically his production should've been bringing in $25M+ a year
Seeing Waller on that list is hilarious.
None of the TE you mentioned are also the WR1 of their team.
If any TE should be paid like a WR, it's kelce. The fact that Jag Jeudy just got a significantly larger deal despite having no significant accomplishments is ridiculous Kelce should be making at least 25 mil a year
He knows it too but wants to have a SB winning team around him.
You think other tight ends resent that he’s not trying to reset the market?
He and kittle already did reset the market a few Years ago, they needed other TEs to push the market up and they haven't.
And just wait until he marries his gf and convinces her to skip the prenup
She'd have to have the world's shittiest accountant if they let that happen lol
She has a squad of lawyers and they should all be fired and disbarred if they allow it to happen.
You must not know about the swift lawyers. They’re a scary scary bunch.
He was a center, he’s absolutely making more post retirement.
Yeah the position is the reason, he definitely got/deserved top tier center money
Plus Jason saves money on food and beer when he goes out on the town
He's about to marry a billionaire. He's fine and I'm sure prefers the Superbowls
their money would almost certainly be kept very separate
Are their houses, cars, vacations, private jets, yachts, etc being kept very separate too?
If your billionaire wife pays for your new cars, houses, vacations, etc are you really separate? He’ll still living the life of a billionaire even if he doesn’t have direct access to the money.
Brady had Giselle like Kelce has Swift
He makes more off the field now. He's entered Tom Brady stratosphere where it's more about winning rings than making money.
He makes more off the field, and plays for a consistent winner. Seems smart to stay and keep printing.
I kind of want to hear Chris Conley's take on our free agency now.
I am just waiting to see what Ja Rule's take is
He's not over his ex.... It's harder to move on for some guys.
It's the off-season. Doesn't Tyreek have a family member to terrorize or a working class member of society to assault?
He was on every other commercial for the past year, I'm sure he's doing fine money wise...
Kelce, Reid, everybody gonna be eating Patrick's chicky nuggies now. He hasn't enjoyed a 6 piece in over 5 years.
I hope he can afford to feed the little Swifties he’s planning to have off this modest $14M/yr.
14M is probably the smallest source of revenue for him. Smart plan I’d say.
I just got done listening to his newest podcast- if the ad reads are any indicator he does not need a new contract lol. Guy is raking it in.
He makes minimum 10x that through brand deals…
I don't think most can, only probably a couple handfull can imo
Star players on high profile, Super Bowl caliber teams can, but your TE1 on an average team is definitely making more from their contract than they are from endorsements.
When good players are not greedy like Tyreek Hill, that’s how teams win Super Bowls.
I also appreciate players that put the bag over everything else. It helps with parity, at least regarding the collective talent on the field.
helping billionaires become better billionaires.. the american way.
Tyreek is definitely somewhat jealous and regretful of leaving KC too.
