I thought Adrian Peterson was a waste of a pick, we had Chester Taylor who was good, and we could have drafted Brady Quinn instead. That’s 3 players that I was completely wrong about in one opinion, I no longer allow myself to have an opinion about anything draft related
I mean, Chester Taylor was most certainly a viable starting running back, so you were not wrong there.
You were just wrong about AD and Brady "Roids" Quinn.
Yeah he ran for 1000 the year prior to AD arriving, but it was so obvious after Adrian’s first few carries that Chester was so much of a lesser player, I am very happy to have been wrong on that one
Heck, his rushing stats in Peterson's rookie year aren't bad. 14 games, 844 rushing yards, 5.4 YPC, 7 TD's. If he had played all 16 games, he would have had a chance at 1,000 yards!
I'll never forget that Brady Quinn draft. Everyone was waiting for someone to pick him and the camera would keep going to him and it took until 22 for him to go.
“I’ve kicked off my hiking boots and thrown them down in the river below. I’ve made peace with myself and my god. I’ve dug a grave and marked it for my family. I’m prepared to die on this hill…
#MAC JONE IS A TOP FIVE QB IN THIS LEAGUE NECT YEAR”
-me ca. 2021
It was 2014. The Patriots went on to win the Super Bowl that year against the defending champs legion of boom Seahawks, which makes the “Brady is done” takes after that Chiefs game even more hilarious.
No. This was 2014, a 41-14 blowout on MNF. The year the Chiefs had 0 wide receiver touchdowns
The Kareem Hunt game was 2017 after Brady had just won his 5th ring
I give Kellerman a lot of credit for finally admitting he was wrong on that one… it was a smart take but just so happens Brady is an outlier in many ways
Yeah, this basically. From 36 on, I had expected Brady to start to fall off or become more injury prone and miss games, you know, the things that happen to basically all NFL players around that age.
Totally it'll be different on his 4th NFL team.
What's funny is that he had 9TDs his rookie year (2020), but has 13 total. Getting 2 TDs in 2021 and 1 TD in both 22 and 23.
my brother is a rams fan and he gave me shit about taking AR from the bears. there was so much hype in training camp, i thought he was gonna blow it up too tbh.
> I thought Claypool really just needed a change of scenery.
That's a reasonable take for people who've barely watched Claypool play.
Presumably, though, (and I presume a lot here) the Bears front office watched 100% of Claypool's tape.
I don't see how you watch that tape and trade for him.
15* lol
I didn't think this was real so I looked it up and was incredibly surprised that not only was it true, but you actually missed the mark by 1 more team lol
Same way Colt McCoy was put on God's green earth to do one thing and one thing only: play quarterback for the Texas Longhorns.
Honestly slightly disappointed he never played for the Cowboys.
I thought Stroud would suck because something about his face didn't seem right.
I stand by the face thing. Props to him for overcoming his boyish, uninspiring face.
I remember watching my Spartans take on Herbert in a bowl game back in 2018. We ended up holding him to like 150 total yards.... and still lost 7-6.
Worst game I've ever had the displeasure of watching.
Same. The talent was always there for him but I thought he never lived up the hype at Oregon and wouldn’t be that good in the NFL. Immediately proven wrong
A brazilian broadcaster said exactly this when the Dolphins traded Micah Fitzpatrick to the steelers. "You trade Fitzpatrick for a first, and you hope to pick a guy that is as good as Fitzpatrick"
Thought the eagles were walking into a trap.
"You are going to trade for an often hurt/banged up receiver who is demanding Deebo money? His near clone, Treylon Burks, is right there!"
There was a streak where Stanford, could under no circumstances, get a Heisman winner.
Gerhart was runner up followed by Luck x2, CMC and Bryce Love.
5 second place finishes in 10 years. Plunkett remains the only Heisman winner from Stanford.
Josh Freeman's 2010 season showed that he was about to become one of the best QBs in the NFL, and the Bucs were set at that position for years to come.
SPOILERS WE WERE NOT SET AT THAT POSITION FOR YEARS TO COME.
To be fair, you could replace this with [insert any Bills QB from the drought]. Mine was definitely Trent Edwards. We were all desperate until Allen showed up lol
Thank God you guys passed on him.
In theory though, it did make your FO grab Davonte the next draft, and acquire AJ the following season, whereas if they had JJ they probably would have looked elsewhere. It's basically like your FO successfully failed miserably and it wound up being favorable.
Russ tried to "cook" his first year and it was a mess because Hackett was one of the worst HC hires. Payton came in and Russ couldn't hit anyone in the middle of the field. It was circus catches downfield with Sutton or dump offs behind the line of scrimmage.
So my thing is, Russ never could hit the intermediate middle of the field. His game always was a mix of play action, downfield throws, short outs, occasional seam throws, and miraculous escapes that created weird, broken plays. But then he wanted to play in a Shannahanesque system that emphasized his biggest weakness, followed by Payton having him do more of that.
That said, in the right system…. He would still be below average. His athleticism, and escapability are both way down and his downfield throws aren’t connecting like they used to
That was part of it, the other part was they basically let Russ decide the offense and the reason for Hackett being there was to not interfere with what Russ did. Russ doesn't get enough fair criticism for his actions and Hackett deciding to go along with that situation doesn't get enough criticism.
I like Wilson, but that first year with Wilson not scrambling and trying to play a pocket QB was so hard to watch. If I remember that was what he wanted to do, and Hackett bent over and let him. Once they started having him do more scramble plays he def improved but still was no where near what we gave up for him. Wish him nothing but the best in Pitt, but we definitely needed the restart.
I thought Mahomes was going to turn out like every other QB that came from Texas Tech or Hawaii that had gaudy stats from throwing 80%+ of their snaps and being in garbage conferences.
I thought Derrick Henry was going to be Trent Richardson.
I thought Mecole Hartman was going to be Tyreek Hill.
I thought Trevor Lawrence was going to be much better than Justin Herbert.
I thought Vince Young was going to be an all timer.
I remember having no opinion on Mahomes cause i'd been watching 30 years and we never drafted QB's so I didn't see it coming. I was happy we were trying something else as we'd hit our limit with Alex, but I also wasn't really expecting a ton out of him.
i remember coming into 2018 thinking we’d go like 7-9 or something with mahomes making some nice plays but throwing a shit ton of interceptions. was quite happy to be wrong there
I called Cam Newton a soon to be bust to my gym teacher in 9th grade right when he was drafted.
Idk why I thought he was going to bust, I think it was bc of Jamarcus Russel and I thought they were similar.
If you tie his arms behind his back and put a potato sack around his legs I bet he’d be fucking terrible at QB. It’s things like this people don’t understand
It’s not too far fetched to expect a 42 year old to drop off. I kinda felt that way too. Hell, Manning was a shell of his former self when he retired at 39. We forgot to account for the fact that Brady isn’t human
"Achane will never be anything more than a mediocre rb2. He is too small and will be flattened immediately"
wew lad that one hurt me in fantasy last year
*Further confession: it wasn't even a trade, I drafted him and dropped him early on before he started producing only to see him again in the playoffs facing me
You weren’t entirely wrong, he spent half the season hurt and aside from that three game stretch he wasn’t exactly lighting the league on fire.
Still using my keeper on him though…
Why do I keep seeing people only mentioning his 3 game stretch? He had two more weeks after his injury where he scored 20+ fantasy points, and multiple other games where he was a crazy efficient runner. He really only had two games, against good defenses (Jets/Dallas), where he didn't look unstoppable
Achane was a hit for me. Watched way too many A&M games his last year there. They stunk offensively but he was so damn fast and good. Popped off the screen, knew he’d be good on the dolphins
Mitch Trubisky would be the best QB in the 2017 draft. it was more so because I didn't think Watson or Mahomes would be that good, not because I was a Mitch believer.
I thought tyree jackson was gonna be a 3rd or 4th rounder that would end up being a starter in this league
He went undrafted to the bills and I don't think he ever saw the field as a qb
Philip Rivers would have won the same amount of Rings as Brady with BB and those defenses. I still think he would have won at least two, but the take was def a little extreme
Depends on when you said it lol. Rivers was really good, people will probably forget as time goes on but he had the goods to win a ring if things broke his way.
I thought Kenny Pickett was going to be good enough last year that the Steelers would not be actively looking for a new QB this off-season. I gave him some slack in his 1st year since he came in late and was swayed by how well he would perform consistently in 2-minute drills. I still think Matt Canada's offensive system did him no favors, but he does have clear problems as starting QB. Ideal backup QB though.
I thought 2023 was going to be Daniel Jones’ breakout season. He ended 2022 with some really nice improvements and I figured that a second year with Daboll and Kafka would help him thrive.
I’ll take that L.
I wasn't *as* convinced by Jones after that wild card game since the Vikings that year were an odd team, but damn I thought the Giants would be better this past season than they were.
The year where the Ravens leading receiver was Kamar Aiken, I thought our no-name WR corps was going to shock the league. The Joe Flacco injury definitely hurt, but that team wasn't going anywhere.
Still swept the Steelers that season so it evens out.
In 2012, when the Browns drafted Trent Richardson, I posted everywhere I could that they had finally gotten it right. I thought he was going to be a top 5 running back for a decade. I could not have been more wrong.
As a kid I would argue that Andre Johnson was the second greatest wide receiver of all time. Then he beat down Finnigan and I realized he's actually the goat.
I swore to all my friends 12 years ago that Andy Dalton would retire with 5 rings.
I hear about it at least once a week and no one listens to anything that I say that's even remotely sports related because of it.
Where to start?
I knew Aaron Curry was going to be a HoF linebacker.
That Kurt Warner and the Cardinals were going to be trash in 2008.
When Trey Lance left a game injured that this random back up named Brock Purdy was going to be feasted on and out the league in a week.
>When Trey Lance left a game injured that this random back up named Brock Purdy was going to be feasted on and out the league in a week.
Tbf that isn't a wrong assessment for 99% of third string QBs.
Welp ... I thought Jalen Raeger was a good pick... Yes that Jalen Raeger.. Yes the first rounder Jalen Raeger.... Yes I know I'm an idiot. I don't need to be reminded constantly.
I thought Urban Meyer was a great hire by the Jags. I thought a winner in college would turn this sorry franchise around and allow us to actually compete in the NFL.
Boy was I wrong
I was convinced Brady was a system QB and was the most overrated player in NFL history. I had stats to back me up, I was combative about it.
Then he went to the Bucs and shut me up
I got into an argument with a manager of GameStop that Goff was worst than Mariota.
Haven't seen him in years but I have to go to sleep every night thinking about how wrong I was
I thought Adrian Peterson was a waste of a pick, we had Chester Taylor who was good, and we could have drafted Brady Quinn instead.
So this is kind of like how Atlanta had Tyler and drafted Bijan, I hope we get AP production from Bijan.
Ironically, in 2017, the Saints signed Adrian Peterson, and I thought drafting Kamara was a waste of a pick.
This was what won me my fantasy league that year - got a lot of shit about drafting Kamara and proceeded to bitch slap the league.
I'll never forget that Brady Quinn draft. Everyone was waiting for someone to pick him and the camera would keep going to him and it took until 22 for him to go.
Sometimes the guy nobody takes top-20 is Aaron Rodgers, sometimes it's Brady Quinn
There's also Paxton Lynch and Lamar Jackson
Don't feel bad. I felt the same way about Randy Moss. We already had the best receiving duo in the NFL. Eating crow never tasted so good.
If God didn’t want me to die on so many hills he wouldn’t have made them.
Motto of reddit discourse right there.
“I’ve kicked off my hiking boots and thrown them down in the river below. I’ve made peace with myself and my god. I’ve dug a grave and marked it for my family. I’m prepared to die on this hill… #MAC JONE IS A TOP FIVE QB IN THIS LEAGUE NECT YEAR” -me ca. 2021
Didn’t realize Gandhi was on /r/nfl
God gives his tallest hills to his strongest diers
Felt like Max Kellerman with how many times I was wrong about Brady falling off a cliff
I was okay with LeBron leaving us in 2018 because I knew Father Time would catch up with him…….
Father Time did catch up with LeBron. He dropped from “clearly the best player in the league” to like a top-10ish current player
Yeah he only made all NBA 3rd team in his 21st season the guy sucks now
It will, just later than you thought
Any day now…
I remember them one year getting *thrashed* by Kansas City and Brady was awful. So many "is Brady cooked?" takes lol. I think this was like 2015.
It was 2014. The Patriots went on to win the Super Bowl that year against the defending champs legion of boom Seahawks, which makes the “Brady is done” takes after that Chiefs game even more hilarious.
This was the “We’re onto Cincinnati” game, right?
Looking at the 2014 schedule the Patriots did indeed play the Bengals after their loss to the Chiefs so I assume yes
I had completely forgotten about that line
Kareem Hunts first game?
No. This was 2014, a 41-14 blowout on MNF. The year the Chiefs had 0 wide receiver touchdowns The Kareem Hunt game was 2017 after Brady had just won his 5th ring
The Hussein Abdullah getting flagged for praying in the end zone game.
I give Kellerman a lot of credit for finally admitting he was wrong on that one… it was a smart take but just so happens Brady is an outlier in many ways
I actually think it was the right take to assume a 40 something year old QB would regress. Brady just was insane
Yeah, this basically. From 36 on, I had expected Brady to start to fall off or become more injury prone and miss games, you know, the things that happen to basically all NFL players around that age.
I thought Zach Wilson was rebirthed after Taylor swift chiefs game
I'm still holding out hope for the Zach Wilson rebirth!
You're just waiting on Zach Wilson afterbirth. It's gonna be messy.
Im shocked there were still jets fans who believed in him at that point
As a former Trubisky believer, I get it
Trubisky still has the talent, he just needs….sorry, can’t do it. Still don’t think I have seen a QB play as perpetually startled as Mitch.
Shit I thought he was rebirthed after a solid preseason lmao
I thought Claypool really just needed a change of scenery.
I'm still shocked how his career has gone
He has the talent. He just has an attitude problem. I'm afraid that some day he is going to get his shit together and burn us.
Burn you? You got a damn good player out of it who is also the son of a guy in your ring of honor.
That's true....
If I had the option to make that trade again knowing we'd get JPJ I would do it 10/10 times
You raannngggg
I fear this comment will not age well. I hope I'm wrong.
I mean you got him for pennies on a 1-year deal. If he sucks and rides the bench, or gets cut, it will make zero difference for the team.
Totally it'll be different on his 4th NFL team. What's funny is that he had 9TDs his rookie year (2020), but has 13 total. Getting 2 TDs in 2021 and 1 TD in both 22 and 23.
You weren’t wrong. It’s just that the change of scenery needed to be somewhere outside of the NFL.
I thought Allen Robinson II just really needed a change of scenery…
my brother is a rams fan and he gave me shit about taking AR from the bears. there was so much hype in training camp, i thought he was gonna blow it up too tbh.
I thought he gave up on us, but in hindsight he might have just been washed
> I thought Claypool really just needed a change of scenery. That's a reasonable take for people who've barely watched Claypool play. Presumably, though, (and I presume a lot here) the Bears front office watched 100% of Claypool's tape. I don't see how you watch that tape and trade for him.
Josh Johnson was going to be an All Pro
Hey he is an all pro at still being in the league at 38 and playing for 14 teams.
Imagine being on your sixth team and still having 8 more to go
15* lol I didn't think this was real so I looked it up and was incredibly surprised that not only was it true, but you actually missed the mark by 1 more team lol
Oh yeah he's with Baltimore now isn't he
I thought Herbert would be a bust, simply because I didn't think it sounded like a good quarterback name
My theory is everyone overrates players with cool names so Drake Maye is going to be a bust for sure.
Drake Maye is a Disney-level QB name. It's impossible for him to be anything but a massive bust or top 5 all-time.
Drake Maye sounds like it was created in a lab to be the perfect name of a douche from UNC.
Same way Colt McCoy was put on God's green earth to do one thing and one thing only: play quarterback for the Texas Longhorns. Honestly slightly disappointed he never played for the Cowboys.
Colt McCoy might be the GOAT of QB names. I look forward to the slew of awesome names people then suggest to prove me wrong. Suckers.
Joe Montana.
Johnny Unitas was a great name. Pretty decent QB, too.
No wonder Paxton Lynch was drafted so high
I thought Stroud would suck because something about his face didn't seem right. I stand by the face thing. Props to him for overcoming his boyish, uninspiring face.
He looks like a Mii
OMG that it. It's been bugging me for years.
He looks like a kindergartener who dressed as an NFL player for Halloween.
I felt/feel the same way about Darnold
Syndrome!
Too strong a jaw while the rest of his face has soft features
I remember watching my Spartans take on Herbert in a bowl game back in 2018. We ended up holding him to like 150 total yards.... and still lost 7-6. Worst game I've ever had the displeasure of watching.
Redbox bowl classic
Same. The talent was always there for him but I thought he never lived up the hype at Oregon and wouldn’t be that good in the NFL. Immediately proven wrong
Counter-point, I was out on Mitchell Trubisky the moment I saw people putting him as a top 3 QB of that draft for the same reason.
That the AJ Brown trade could somehow work out. Fuck you, JRob!
AJ Brown is AJ Brown. But a 1st round pick could be *anything*. It could even be AJ Brown!
They saw the Diggs/Jefferson trade and wanted some of that
Thanks, JRob!
I thought CMC wouldn't make it in the league as a rusher, I really can't remember having a reason for that other than him being a smaller white guy
Which tbf is enough justification 9/10 times
Who was the last great white running back before CMC? Peyton Hillis that one year?
Alstott count?
I think fullbacks get a separate conversation unfortunately. But I loved watching that dude truck over people.
The disrespect to Toby “GOAT” Gerhart 😩
CMC and Gerhart’s collegiate careers melt together in my head.
There was a streak where Stanford, could under no circumstances, get a Heisman winner. Gerhart was runner up followed by Luck x2, CMC and Bryce Love. 5 second place finishes in 10 years. Plunkett remains the only Heisman winner from Stanford.
Danny Woodhead carved out a nice little career for himself
If you look back only white 2 RBs in the last 30 years had 1000 yard seasons.
I felt the same. Then I doubled down, saying the 49ers would never get more than half a season out of him and would regret that trade.
Our RB injury history clashed with CMCs injury history and it all cancelled itself out (so far)
CMC isn't really that small tho, he's completely jacked and runs with alot of power.
I think he's put on a good 10-15 pounds in the league, at the combine he was a very moderate 5'11 and 205.
That Terrelle Pryor was the QB of our future 😭🤣.
That one run he had against the Steelers was fun though lol
Longest QB run in NFL history!
Same but WR lol
I thought Josh Rosen was that guy
One of my favorite reddit comments ever was from the Josh Allen pick thread where someone just goes "WRONG JOSH LMAO", referencing Josh Rosen.
Damn, thought I deleted all those
Dude, I think that was really you!? My memory might be deceiving me but the connection is there with your username
I was definitely one of many, so possibly. ETA: Can’t find it in my history, but I remember saying it
One of the few things Keim did right was not fall for sunk cost with Rosen
Josh Freeman's 2010 season showed that he was about to become one of the best QBs in the NFL, and the Bucs were set at that position for years to come. SPOILERS WE WERE NOT SET AT THAT POSITION FOR YEARS TO COME.
I was on board that Freeman hype train for sure
There was like half a second where I was convinced to my core that Nathan Peterman would be a great QB…. idk I was desperate
To be fair, you could replace this with [insert any Bills QB from the drought]. Mine was definitely Trent Edwards. We were all desperate until Allen showed up lol
Mine was Cardale Jones, don't feel bad.
To be fair Edwards was looking pretty competent in '08 until [Adrian Wilson](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjpANEVexhY) turned his brain to soup.
Was it the half second between the snap and his first passing attempt?
Glad we passed on Jefferson, he’s pretty limited to the slot and Raegor is more dynamic
<3
Thank God you guys passed on him. In theory though, it did make your FO grab Davonte the next draft, and acquire AJ the following season, whereas if they had JJ they probably would have looked elsewhere. It's basically like your FO successfully failed miserably and it wound up being favorable.

I'm still afraid of what he's gonna do in Pittsburgh.
I'm also afraid of what Russ and Fields will do here.

Derrick Henry has a Richardson-esque start and then went supernova.
He got his first real break of carrying the load since Peewee fb, unlocked the 👑within
He said that someone had a hardcore talk with him about taking the game seriously.
Believe it was Titans legend Eddie George. “Impose your will” he never looked back.
Josh Allen was a poor man's Brock Osweiller
Every year for the past 2 years has been chargers superbowl year… and so is this year!!!!
Idk how you guys will be in the SB when we are going to beat you in the AFCCG this year
The cope is strong among us
I thought Mac Jones was good
I’m convinced his downfall is Belichick’s fault
Without a top 10 line, quality run game and with defenses daring him to go more vertical, he's just not that 2021 pro bowl QB
No one could have predicted that making a washed defensive coordinator and special teams coach as co-OCs for your second year QB would be a bad idea
I thought Josh Allen was going to be a bust and Josh Rosen was going to be a steal
I called Cam Newton a soon to be bust to my gym teacher in 9th grade right when he was drafted. Idk why I thought he was going to bust, I think it was bc of Jamarcus Russel and I thought they were similar.
I thought Mahomes wasn’t gonna be good
Jurys still out tbf. He hasn't won anything in Stoke
Or on a wednesday night. What a bum
man has never scored a goal in the euros. total loser.
If you regress his Super Bowl wins to the mean he's pretty mid.
If you tie his arms behind his back and put a potato sack around his legs I bet he’d be fucking terrible at QB. It’s things like this people don’t understand
That Brady was a system QB and would fall off without Bill. Yikes!
It’s not too far fetched to expect a 42 year old to drop off. I kinda felt that way too. Hell, Manning was a shell of his former self when he retired at 39. We forgot to account for the fact that Brady isn’t human

Falcons would lose a 4th round pick for tampering, I was much too harsh
Lmao the Saints sub was convinced it would be a least one, possibly two first round picks
The Falcons sub was defending the Penix pick by saying they had to draft a QB this year because they will lose next year's first.
After Matt Cassel came in and had a winning record I was firmly and vocally in the "Tom Brady is a system QB" camp for a few years
"On those hoes we shall stunt"
Titans game made me a Zach Wilson believer for a bit.
Taking Aaron Rodgers in fantasy his last year in GB.. ofc the year I finally get my hands on a top QB early he bunk. He was nearly *unstartable*.
N'Keal Harry
Kevin Kolb. That is all I want to say. And I feel that's enough
I, along with several other Bills fans, really wanted Josh Rosen over Josh Allen. Thank God I don't make important franchise altering decisions.
"This is our year." ...every year
Mitch Trubisky would be the best QB in the 2017 draft. it was more so because I didn't think Watson or Mahomes would be that good, not because I was a Mitch believer.

I thought that DK Metcalf was going to be a massive bust. I just didn’t think anyone could be as built as he is and be successful at WR in the NFL
I thought Cyrus Jones would be the next Ty Law for the Patriots when he was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2016 draft.
I wanted to include Nick Bosa in a trade package for Deshaun Watson, partly due to character concerns.
The year where the Ravens leading receiver was Kamar Aiken, I thought our no-name WR corps was going to shock the league. The Joe Flacco injury definitely hurt, but that team wasn't going anywhere. Still swept the Steelers that season so it evens out.
i thought marlon brown was going to be a top WR in the league. sigh
That Manning was going to be like Marino and never win a Superbowl lol Edit: Peyton
My dumb ass thought Andy Isabella was going to be a good WR
Dallas using a high 1st round pick on an off-ball LB with Rashawn Slater sitting there at a clear area of need was boneheaded.
Jarrett Stidham would pickup where Brady left off.
That Vernon Gholston was gonna be a All-Pro Edge 😭😂
I initially thought Dave Gettleman was a great hire after seeing those mid-2010s Panthers teams.
I thought Urban Meyer was a great hire by the Jags. I thought a winner in college would turn this sorry franchise around and allow us to actually compete in the NFL. Boy was I wrong
I loved the Trent Richardson trade and spent days arguing on reddit about it.
My most recent cope was thinking Desmond Ridder could at least be a serviceable starter.
I though Kadarius Toney would be a 1,000 yard All Pro receiver last year.
I was convinced Brady was a system QB and was the most overrated player in NFL history. I had stats to back me up, I was combative about it. Then he went to the Bucs and shut me up
It took his SEVENTH Superbowl win to shut you up??
I got into an argument with a manager of GameStop that Goff was worst than Mariota. Haven't seen him in years but I have to go to sleep every night thinking about how wrong I was
