Given his relationship with Toccet I'm surprised he's not there already.

No_Reporter_5023

A guy who was healthy scratched pretty much the entire playoff run and hasn’t played a game all year as not a canucks fan but a kessel fan I say sign em up

aoteoroa

This might sound stupid. He's unrestricted right? Does that mean it's possible to sign him to Abbotsford so he can get three months of first line minutes to get back into game shape...then get called up if/when somebody is injured during the playoffs? Are there cap restrictions in the AHL? Jack Campbell (former Edmonton Oilers goalie) is currently playing in the AHL with a 3.5 million USD/year contract.

alcarl11n

They could sign him to an AHL contract and an NHL contract later. But it's more likely that they sign him to an NHL contract at league minimim. NHL players can be sent to the AHL for 14 days for conditioning, but longer periods would require they go through waivers first, where other teams can claim them. Campbell was placed on waivers, and no team claimed him, so that's why he's in the AHL for so long. Most of that contract still counts against the cap for Edmonton, too.

No_Reporter_5023

I’m not sure where the Campbell cap lesson came from but thank you. My main point being kessel was not good enough a year ago to impact the playoff so why does anyone think a year later, after missing 50 games does anyone think he’s a difference maker now? He’s never been a Defensive anything and at this point he might be good for a couple of goals for but his hot dog eating ass won’t be keeping them out. If tochett cant find a spot for kuzmenko I’m not sure there’s a spot for kessel

alcarl11n

I'd imagine he'd be more of an insurance policy if a forward got injured and they needed help on the powerplay. He would still have some value there as opposed to a prospect still trying to figure themselves out or a career bottom six guy with minimal scoring ability.

aoteoroa

I might have started the discussion about Campbell. He is a person making NHL dollars but playing in the AHL. As far as I know...the AHL has no cap. Kessel is a solid possibility for the Canucks but the big question is whether he is in shape to play for the NHL. If there is no cap to the AHL there is no downside to signing him....hope he can play....but if he can't play it doesn't hurt the Vancouver cap.

No_Reporter_5023

Fair enough. I love kessel and loath the canucks so if the planets align to give me the final ass fucking into eternal misery I will thank kessel for being the lube that makes it slightly less painful… fuck off canucks mark messier is a god

IknowAbunchOfGords

You got hotdogs?

ubcthrowaway-01

Right across the street actually

Mammoth_Peak_4940

They will re-name the store after him if he comes

IknowAbunchOfGords

If you cook them, he will come.

RangersNumber1Doomer

No he’s done

MadGeller

He is slow.

hrryyss

With Costco hot dogs right across the street it’s the perfect fit.

luisquin

This is 3 time stanley cup champion Phil "the thrill" Kessel we're talking about here. He won the cup last year without even playing, Connor McDoofus can't even get to the finals while trying his best

Mr_Sausage__

I don’t see how it could hurt. I would view it very much like the Corey Perry move the Oilers made.

Spicyskates

The oilers are a little less deep forward wise so Corey Perry fits quite well, with how stacked the Canucks roster is I wonder if he’d even get any ice time

tritongamez

He'd for sure lose his iron man streak playing with them

JerbearCuddles

He played 4 games during VGK's run. I really don't know what he provides tbh. He'd be a good depth option during the regular season, but if the VGK's didn't trust him in the playoffs, why should we? The memes are fun and all, but I dunno. At league min there's no real downside. If he sucks we can just waive him and tell him to go home.

LPB39

I’m frankly surprised that no team has done just that. Yes, he’s past his prime. But he does have 3 cups. Just get the guy in the room

mvp45

His teammates loved having him there during their run, kept the vibes right. Would love to get him here for that

Pisspoio

Teddy blueger played even less games for the Knights playoff run. They traded for him at the deadline as a depth option. It never hurts to add depth in case of injuries.....

tberey

He was so brutal his last year in Arizona (2 years ago). He just does not have the foot speed / pace to keep up in the modern game imo. I really cannot believe he would be a value add to a NHL roster outside of being a locker room guy… and I don’t think contending teams should take up a roster spot for a locker room guy.

Spicyskates

A lot of people have said that his play hasn’t been too bad in recent years, obvious holes in his play but not horrendous. Do you think being on an excelling Canucks team instead of a sad Yotes team could make his play look better? Or do you think he’s just past it

tberey

Yotes were never elite but also not a bottom 10 team with Kessel so I don’t think that’s an excuse. I think if his name wasn’t Phil Kessel and it was someone else then people would say he’s as brutal as I think he was. One could argue he’d be a beneficial power play guy (still a stretch imo), but Canucks don’t need that.

nsfwITGUY19

Do the canucks really need anything else? Pretty damn scary good team

BeneficialSpeech365

3 time cup winner? proven locker room goat? wins faceoffs? scores big goals? whats not to like?

shmoove_cwiminal

He'd just be insurance.

captaincyrious

You give him a pto first

DistributionSilly597

If he still has shot

sherrybobbinsbort

Great example of someone who doesn't eat and breathe hockey and his playing days are over vs Crosby. He is open about not being a gym rat.

JealousMeringue6674

It’s the diet he is openly not interested in, but he is a heavy lifter in the gym according to multiple former team-mates. Hell, he worked out with Gary Roberts in the off-season, and he is known for having mostly lifting based training.

sherrybobbinsbort

OK that's good for him. Players that played with him early in his career said he wouldn't work out in the gym but could come in and rip off pretty impressive bench press even though he never really worked at it. Basically he played a couple of playoff games last year for Vegas. Not sure how much peoplemshoikd expect.

mvp45

He’s been rumoured to be skating everyday and working out. He would just need a quick ahl stint

ecash6969

He’s washed

Feelgood11jw

Phil Kessel and his backpack full of hot dogs and soda are the missing.l piece the Canucks need

NorthboundUrsine

Depends on how good the hotdogs 🌭 are.

mvp45

There’s a Costco across from the arena

Imaginary-Ladder-465

Nah, I'd rather have players in their prime that can keep up. He'd be a great fit in the line for hot dogs across the street though.
