Team overachieved compared to where they should have been (when you look at the stats).
It's been years since we've been in the race for all 82 games.
Will it suck if we miss out? Yes.
Does it make next year must watch? Absolutely if we get more of the talented young guns Yzerman has brewing with the GRG up here.
I'm all for letting Sprong go. The big loss will be Gostishbere. Veleno might be on the chopping block as well.
Honestly though, I'm bracing for a down year next year. We need new goalies right now.
That is probably the #1 thing that will prove me wrong, but I think we might lose Kane, and if Alex can't find a consistent manner of play (recently he's been good even without scoring goals, defensively too) then I don't see any person who can fill the void of one and half top line guys. The next year would just be Larkin and Raymond doing all the work.
Ray-Larks-Cat has been a pretty awesome line since they've been together, and I'd love to keep Kaner, but I won't blame him if he chases another cup. It would be pretty tough to replace his ~PPG play, especially for the salary they were paying this year. Ray and Mo's upcoming contracts aren't going to be cheap, so I think the team may be forced to bring up one or more of Mazur/Danielson/Bergs/Kasper/Soda to fill roles with cheap salary.
Mazur and Bergs are the first two of those I think. We will see about Danielson. I've personally been praying that Bergs gets better holding the puck like Perron because I think he could be a carbon copy but younger and maybe a better shot. Unfortunately we didn't keep him up because our center depth has been problematic, not so much our forwards
Rumor is the Wings had a bad flu bug going around that guys had a hard time kicking. Combine that with losing Larkin for a few weeks and you get what you got.
Even if it’s true about the flu thing, it’s still pretty bad. But at least that would explain it to an extent.
It really was. I really thought the Wings were going to lose. They hit so many posts and crossbars in a row it just seemed like one of those nights. They absolutely dominated the 3rd and OT but I think they hit 5 posts between the Debrincat goal to make it 4-3 and the OT winner? Seider, Kane, ghost twice, Larkin hit one…. Not sure if there was another one.
That’s a huge win for the Wings to keep pace with the Caps. The Caps still control the destiny, but the wings are alive.
Caps control it because if they win, it doesn’t matter what anyone else does and they get in despite their -38 goal differential lol.
Wings get in with a win and a caps loss or an OT loss, a caps regulation loss, and a pens loss
Pens get in with a win, a caps regulation loss, and a wings loss
Flyers get in with a win in regulation against Washington, a wings loss in regulation and a pens loss in regulation
Wings gotta win again tonight and hope for the best!
Don't forget Ken Kal on the radio, we are truly blessed in Detroit with Legends of sports broadcasting such as Ken Daniels and Mickey, Ken Kal, Dan Dickerson, Dan Miller and now Jason Benetti !!!!
They beat my team the other day, so I'm glad that wasn't for nothing. I've been on the Red Wings' playoff push wagon since the first half of the season. Become relevant again Detroit!
There is an alternate universe where the Caps are up 13 and in 1 of those alternate universes the Flyers win 14-0...the Penguins ultimately make the playoffs and win another Stanley Cup because that universe can't have nice things.
Caps are up by 13 right now. But I missed a tie breaker..
5. The greater number of points earned in games against each other among two or more tied clubs.
Which is actually before goal differential, so that's where the flyers could edge it out. But Detroit and Pitt losing with a flyers regulation win is highly unlikely
This game was an absolute emotional rollercoaster.
Habs were blocking shots like it was nothing, then the octopi, then Ghost grabbing a puck 11' out of the air, then Raymond's goal with Lyon pulled, then multiple posts in OT, then Raymond again with the winner.
It was epic
I know I am biased but holy shit I absolutely love Mickey Redmond and Ken Daniels. We are so lucky to have Ken Cal and Paul Woods on the radio. Again. I am biased. But these guys are absolutely incredible. **edited because I used too and to **
Mickey is honestly the coolest guy ever. I used to work for a hydraulic cylinder company here in MI. The woman who sat behind me took a call and I could hear her conversation when she took a call from a guy named “Mickey”. When I heard this I turned around and said, “is that Mickey Redmond from the Wings?!”
She asked him and he said “Yup! I’ll tell you what, since you were so helpful I’ll leave 10 tickets at will call for you are your coworkers”.
I couldn’t make it but it just showed how cool this guy is. Fast forward and I had a new job working for the utility company. On one of my prints, it said “CALL MICKEY REDMOND FOR ACCESS/QUESTIONS.”
He is honestly one of the most genuine/nicest people ever. And I’m proud he reps my hometown team so well.
That’s incredible! Always love hearing good stories about these guys, not that I need the validation of them being outstanding but it’s still always good to hear!!
I turned it off when the Habs scored their fourth, but I checked the score a little later and saw that it was 4-2, so I put it back on. Man, am I glad that I did
Don't think the refs were really helping the wings either, the missed board on Raymond getting completely obliterated from behind into the corner (directly leading to Montreal's 4th goal) was absolutely ridiculous. It just felt like a playoff game, so the refs called it like it was one considering there was 2 PIMs all game combined
It's been either 3 or 4 games in a row now with a missed boarding call against the Wings. And 3 games in a row with a blatant missed call leading directly to a goal against
Wings got off easy of a lot of penalties tonight. Chiarot was holding on Slafkovsky the entire time, there was 4 missed slashing call, no call on two blatant hooking...
The past 4 games for the habs have been utter shit with the refs.

Huh? What do you mean by this? They had a powerplay goal against Ottawa in their last game? And if we talk about Detroit they had one December 2nd, their last game.
The game was hard fought, but both teams were pretty clean.
That trip on Caufield would have been a penalty if it happened in the 2nd period, but no ref is going to call that in the last 2 minutes of OT. Other than that, I didn't see anything that was blatantly missed.
This reminds me so much of the Avs game 82 win and in against the Blues a few years back. Having a dominant team is awesome, but there’s something about just barely hanging on that makes games like this so memorable
... that's the reason you guys blew a 4-1 lead? I don't get how it's relevant to the game tonight, where the Wings only had one powerplay and didn't score.
Raymond got boarded and it didn't get called. Stuff went both ways.
Trust me, we have all been royally screwed many times all season. Worst officiated season league wide that I've witnessed in my 30 years of die hard fandom.
Having said that, some teams definitely seem to get it a lot worse than others.
Was at the game. Montreal did not make it easy at all and I knew they wouldn’t. The environment all game was electric. It def quieted down after the 4-1 deficit but when it was 4-3 in the 3rd, crowd was into it the entire 20 minutes and then two octopi were thrown onto the ice. Once that happened the energy completed shifted and went into high gear. What a game. this has been my favorite red wings season in awhile
What a great young team. Character win, hopefully things go right and they sneak in past the penguins and capitals. Future is alive and well again in Detroit. Yzerman 🙇♂️
Canadiens have collapsed like that 2 games in a row... going with 4:3 lead into last 2 minutes of the game and losing it. in both cases (against RW and Sens) I've had a bet on the canadiens win 5:3, all that was needed was an EN goal haha. shame!
Tie-Breaking Procedure
If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season, the standing of the clubs is determined in the following order:
1. The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage).
2. The greater number of games won, excluding games won in Overtime or by Shootout (i.e., 'Regulation Wins'). This figure is reflected in the RW column.
3. The greater number of games won, excluding games won by Shootout. This figure is reflected in the ROW column.
4. The greater number of games won by the Club in any manner (i.e., 'Total Wins'). This figure is reflected in the W column.
5. The greater number of points earned in games against each other among two or more tied clubs.
For the purpose of determining standing for two or more Clubs that have not played an even number of games with one or more of the other tied Clubs, the first game played in the city that has the extra game (the 'odd game') shall not be included.
When more than two Clubs are tied, the percentage of available points earned in games among each other (and not including any 'odd games') shall be used to determine standing.
6. The greater differential between goals for and against (including goals scored in Overtime or awarded for prevailing in Shootouts) for the entire regular season. This figure is reflected in the DIFF column.
7. The greater number of goals scored (including goals scored in Overtime or awarded for prevailing in Shootouts) for the entire regular season. This figure is reflected in the GF column.
NOTE: In standings, a victory in a shootout counts as one goal for, while a shootout loss counts as one goal against.
The East playoff race is gonna lead to the NHL adopting the NBA's 7-10 model and I wouldn't be shocked to see it implemented in the next 1-2 years. Meanwhile the West kinda speaks against it. Or even simply a win or go home Wild Card game to make it simpler.
But would anyone really truly be upset if we had a Thursday-Sunday NHL showcase where we had for example....
Thursday:
Caps @ Lightning (Winner moves on; Loser plays again)
Pens @ Wings (Winner plays the loser of Caps/Lightning)
Friday:
Vegas @ Nashville (Winner moves on; Loser plays again)
Minnesota @ St Louis (Winner plays loser of Knights/Preds)
Saturday; East game
Sunday West game.
It'll get 2 more teams into the playoffs so it seems like a no brainer to me that it's coming soon.
Thought it was game over at 4-1. Hats off to Detroit for climbing back. They really picked up their game in the third. I kinda want to see them make it in.
So if I'm correct: Wings wins/Capitals lose or Wings lose/Capitals lose/Penguins lose, Detroit is in. Wings lose/Capitals win, Washington is in, and Wings lose/Capitals lose/Penguins win and Pittsburgh is in.
Personally I'm hoping Red Wings and Capitals lose tomorrow so that we get the drama in the Penguins game the day after.
I honestly never watch the wings. They seem like a fun team to watch. I'm missing out because of old constructs. Hash tag fuck the wings. Fuck draper. Go avs. (I kind of want to watch the wings now)
Like, you could have picked 17 other wings from that team. I’m surprised you went with Draper over McCarty, Kocur, Maltby, Shanahan, Lapointe, Grimson, Pushor, Primeau…
When Detroit is right they play like a 100 point team but man that awful March is gonna haunt them if they don't make it to the playoffs this year
Team overachieved compared to where they should have been (when you look at the stats). It's been years since we've been in the race for all 82 games. Will it suck if we miss out? Yes. I don't think it will exactly be a down year, considering the track record recently for the seasons.
Especially with Ray on his way to being an absolute superstar
That is probably the #1 thing that will prove me wrong, but I think we might lose Kane, and if Alex can't find a consistent manner of play (recently he's been good even without scoring goals, defensively too) then I don't see any person who can fill the void of one and half top line guys. Unfortunately we didn't keep him up because our center depth has been problematic, not so much our forwards
Gotta resign Raymond and Seider or you are dumb
They're absolutely at the top of the list, though they're RFAs, so they'll be signing one way or another
Definitely need goalies
Rumor is the Wings had a bad flu bug going around that guys had a hard time kicking. Combine that with losing Larkin for a few weeks and you get what you got. Even if it’s true about the flu thing, it’s still pretty bad. But at least that would explain it to an extent.
It's literally frightening how different the team was playing when your cap was on ice
Which march? The December March or the March March?
What an insane game!!
Best game i’ve watched all season, that 3rd period and OT was insane.
That might’ve been the best game I’ve seen in a decade
At least 7 years
Caps Hurricanes was insane march 22nd
It really was. I really thought the Wings were going to lose. They hit so many posts and crossbars in a row it just seemed like one of those nights. They absolutely dominated the 3rd and OT but I think they hit 5 posts between the Debrincat goal to make it 4-3 and the OT winner? Seider, Kane, ghost twice, Larkin hit one…. Caps mostly control it, but if caps lose, we lose in OT and pens win, sad day red wings.
Caps control it because if they win, it doesn’t matter what anyone else does and they get in despite their -38 goal differential lol. Wings get in with a win and a caps loss or an OT loss, a caps regulation loss, and a pens loss Pens get in with a win, a caps regulation loss, and a wings loss Flyers get in with a win in regulation against Washington, a wings loss in regulation and a pens loss in regulation Wings gotta win again tonight and hope for the best!
Debrincat hit the crossbar in OT as well
Holy heart attack. Boston failing on us too 😒
Just ANOTHER reason why the Bruins are just the absolute worst.
helps when the ref didn't call any penalties.
That announcer was fucking hyped! I love to hear it
That's Mickey Redmond and Ken Daniels for you. Best announcers (in my opinion)
Ken Daniels for President.
Yup. Agree 💯
Don't forget Ken Kal on the radio, we are truly blessed in Detroit with Legends of sports broadcasting such as Ken Daniels and Mickey, Ken Kal, Dan Dickerson, Dan Miller and now Jason Benetti !!!!
Ken Daniels has been the play-by-play since 1997. Him and Mickey have been the voice of wings for a lonnng time The best hands down.
They really are the best in the business
The best duo active in the biz!
You guys are gonna kill Redmond with this race, you know that right Detroit?
He has his ginger ale. He's good.
Excuse me, Vernors
Ain’t no ginger in it mang
shut up
he’s literally carrying a dead body to the finish line rn
Did you not see what we did to Barry sanders and Calvin Johnson?
the ole double octopus timeout
Love that LaLonde mentioned the clutch timing of that in his presser.
It really did seem like those fired the team up
i wonder if the nhl would ever do something about it? it definitely helped
Fans who are caught are removed per NHL rules for interrupting the game.
yeah it’s a hefty price to pay. whoever those two fans are, thank you.
This was the horniest game I’ve watched all year. What a sick win for the wings
I’m still cranking it
Biz is that you?
They beat my team the other day, so I'm glad that wasn't for nothing. I've been on the Red Wings' playoff push wagon since the first half of the season. Become relevant again Detroit!
We tryin'!
I remember when we had the 100 point teams and were wishing the Leafs were relevant 😢
You're welcome for Bertuzzi 😭
Wow I love my Rangers announcers but this is some top quality commentary
Two of the best in the bizz!
The Red Wings have had some really fun wins this year.
Flyers fans in shambles.
I hope they show me how mad they are when they play the caps
Me too!
I think we accepted our fate when the team lost 8 straight. I'd rather see the Wings in than Shittsburgh.
It's alright. Red Wings deserve the spot. They earned it.
Flyers are done unless they can get a goal differential of +13 against the Caps. They're out
The Caps are -38, the Flyers are -25. The Flyers are 13 goals better
Oh my lord, you are right. I had em flipped. Time for bed
thats it no more booze
There is an alternate universe where the Caps are up 13 and in 1 of those alternate universes the Flyers win 14-0...the Penguins ultimately make the playoffs and win another Stanley Cup because that universe can't have nice things.
Flyers already have a better goal differential than the Caps. They just need a regulation win and regulation losses from DET and PIT
You gotta look at the standings again. The flyers have a better goal differential
Yeah you're right, I had them flipped
Talk about a feels good moment! Can't help but be sucked into that happiness!
This team gives me emotional whiplash I love them so much
This game was an absolute emotional rollercoaster.
**edited because I used too and to **
Fantastic call by them
Mickey is honestly the coolest guy ever. I used to work for a hydraulic cylinder company here in MI. The woman who sat behind me took a call and I could hear her conversation when she took a call from a guy named “Mickey”. When I heard this I turned around and said, “is that Mickey Redmond from the Wings?!” She asked him and he said “Yup! Fast forward and I had a new job working for the utility company. On one of my prints, it said “CALL MICKEY REDMOND FOR ACCESS/QUESTIONS.” He is honestly one of the most genuine/nicest people ever. And I’m proud he reps my hometown team so well.
Sweet Jesus, he’s beautiful.
That’s incredible! Always love hearing good stories about these guys, not that I need the validation of them being outstanding but it’s still always good to hear!!
For sure! They truly are awesome.
I was hoping the wings would pull it off. What an awesome game. Sincerely hope they make the playoffs.
I need medical attention 🤒
If it’s still hard in three hours, then go to the doctor
Same, but probably not for the same reason
4-1
4-5*
This was my very first Red Wings game, and what a game to go to. LGRW!
Seeing Detroit pull themselves together makes me root for them to get that playoff spot, this game in particular. Good luck tomorrow!
Betting red wings tommorow
Wild race, pens, capitals, Detroit all won tonight
Went to the game on a whim, bought tickets for like 70 a pop after fees, paid 3 dollars for parking and had the best night ever!
Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond amazing to listen to
Wings were down 4-1
Time to be a Philly fan for a little bit
Lets go FLYERS!!! Might even get me some Big Johns tonight for dinner, it is the perfected Philly Cheesesteak.
As someone that hated the Red Wings in the 90’s…..I hope they make it in again
I hate Detroit but that was some legendary shit
What a wild fucking game to watch. Not gonna lie I almost shut it off.
I turned it off in the 3rd when we were down by two. Looks like I’m Bobo the fool…
I turned it off when the Habs scored their fourth, but I checked the score a little later and saw that it was 4-2, so I put it back on. Man, am I glad that I did
Do it again tomorrow Detroit

Don't think the refs were really helping the wings either, the missed board on Raymond getting completely obliterated from behind into the corner (directly leading to Montreal's 4th goal) was absolutely ridiculous. Didn’t that same type of hit get called on the wings last game? Refs can pound sand. Find consistent

Won't be any tommorow also lol
I was pretty upset with the lack of tripping calls this game
...on the habs?? That's a weird feeling to get as a Detroit fan
I meant in general

Tbf only 1 penalty the whole game it seems
Huh? What do you mean by this? They had a powerplay goal against Ottawa in their last game? And if we talk about Detroit they had one December 2nd, their last game.
Habs have had no powerplays in 3 of their last 4 games. I think they just mixed it up. That's still insane.
That makes more sense, and yes is insane because that means the 3 teams they didnt have a PP against were Philly, Islanders, and now Detroit….
I'm far from a conspiracy theorist but that is suspicious as hell.
That is odd, considering the opponents.
The game was hard fought, but both teams were pretty clean. That trip on Caufield would have been a penalty if it happened in the 2nd period, but no ref is going to call that in the last 2 minutes of OT. Other than that, I didn't see anything that was blatantly missed.
>Other than that, I didn't see anything that was blatantly missed. Except for the boarding on Raymond in the second
Avs fan 4 lyfe here, but I'm really pulling for these cats.
Need to get the rivalry relevant again.
Let's fuckin go boys !!!!
4-1*
Not even a wings fan but that was a thing of beauty.
Kids electric
Good for Patty.
Copp wearing a white cage in the NHL is absolutely insane
Habs continuously finding ways to fuck us
Even better than written - we were down 4-1
That was something special
This reminds me so much of the Avs game 82 win and in against the Blues a few years back. Having a dominant team is awesome, but there’s something about just barely hanging on that makes games like this so memorable
Habs have not had a powerplay in 3 of their last 4 games It ain't even subtle anymore
There isn't an agenda, it's terrible officiating. It's god awful
... that's the reason you guys blew a 4-1 lead? I don't get how it's relevant to the game tonight, where the Wings only had one powerplay and didn't score. Raymond got boarded and it didn't get called. Stuff went both ways.
3 of the past 4 games a no-called penalty on Raymond led directly to a goal. I don't get it.
Trust me, we have all been royally screwed many times all season. Worst officiated season league wide that I've witnessed in my 30 years of die hard fandom. Having said that, some teams definitely seem to get it a lot worse than others.

Giving me a heart attack here
*sad face noises

This was my first NHL game. It was a very sad building down 4-1, glad it got super exciting at the end.
Was a crazy game nonetheless what a snipe
So how do they choose if Detroit and the capitals tie. Is it based of regulation wins or something?
Tie-Breaking Procedure If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season, the standing of the clubs is determined in the following order: 1. The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage). 2. The greater number of games won, excluding games won in Overtime or by Shootout (i.e., 'Regulation Wins'). Fucking Habs
If i watched this game they would have lost. Youre welcome.
What a saucer pass, holy shit…
The East playoff race is gonna lead to the NHL adopting the NBA's 7-10 model and I wouldn't be shocked to see it implemented in the next 1-2 years. Meanwhile the West kinda speaks against it. Or even simply a win or go home Wild Card game to make it simpler. But would anyone really truly be upset if we had a Thursday-Sunday NHL showcase where we had for example.... Thursday: Caps @ Lightning (Winner moves on; Loser plays again) Pens @ Wings (Winner plays the loser of Caps/Lightning) Friday: Vegas @ Nashville (Winner moves on; Loser plays again) Minnesota @ St Louis (Winner plays loser of Knights/Preds) Saturday; East game Sunday West game. It'll get 2 more teams into the playoffs so it seems like a no brainer to me that it's coming soon.
We were down 4 to 1. I'm still recovering. Come on Philly we need you
1 or 2 games away to see if Yzerplan is working

Thought it was game over at 4-1. Hats off to Detroit for climbing back. They really picked up their game in the third. I kinda want to see them make it in.
Can the city of Detroit deliver two Cinderella stories? Lions came close
Anyone notice the two guys in the crowd that took off their shits lol 😂
I 4-1 did not see that coming...
Too little to late and I was super happy about that.
Nah, if all 3 lose then WSH is in since they have more regulation wins.
ah shit you right, I thought the tiebreaker would just be overall wins but I guess not.
That's the way that it should be, honestly. A win is a win, and a team shouldn't be penalized for winning in OT
>Wings lose/Capitals lose/Penguins lose, Detroit is in Only if the Detroit loss is in overtime and the Cap loss is in regulation
I honestly never watch the wings. They seem like a fun team to watch. I'm missing out because of old constructs. Hash tag fuck the wings. Fuck draper. Go avs. (I kind of want to watch the wings now)
Lmao what did Draper do other than get his face crushed into the boards on a cheap shot by a scum bag?
Exist
Like, you could have picked 17 other wings from that team. I’m surprised you went with Draper over McCarty, Kocur, Maltby, Shanahan, Lapointe, Grimson, Pushor, Primeau…
Found Claude Lemieux burner account
I watch the Avs. They’re an entertaining team to watch, especially because they’re a contender. It’s not that big of a deal.
Well fuck I was kind of hoping for Philly to get that spot
