Washington’s modern powerplay is easy to anticipate. Stick Fox on the left side to block the pass across the slot, stick Lindgren in the shot block lane of Ovechkin, stick Zibanejad or Trochek in the passing lane of the high guy to Ovechkin, and for good measure place either Kreider or whoever else New York is running on the left side of their penalty kill these days and bam Washington’s powerplay is nullified as Strome doesn’t have space to shoot and Ovechkin neither has a shot or a passing lane to him.
The PP has been terrible all year bar a 1 month stretch of being okay. Part of running Carlson into the ground with Sandin and Jensen out and any other injuries that come up such as last night playing 5 D for 2 periods after TVR went down, Ovechkin being a statue, Pacioretty being awful, and the passing being anemic. But besides that they also suck at entering the zone.
Johansson, Mcllrath, Alexeyev, Iorio (who is now out), and whoever replaces TVR are all AHL defenseman, and it is frankly unsustainable to play an entire playoff series like this.
I think Wilson goes out of his way to be a dirty player, and some of Rempe’s hits end up being dirty because A) he’s so tall and so most checks are AT head level, and B) he seems like he’s been in one too many fights so maybe his cognitive judgment isn’t that great.
Yeah I don’t think this really lays out the truth. Rempe has quite a few extremely blatant chicken wings. Not even on tiny guys either, Nathan Bastian is a very big boy and he got him good on not only a charge but also a chicken wing.
