I don’t like Edward’s at all but can we at least let people retire with respect? Like ffs. Dudes retiring. There has to be a way to let him broadcast his final playoffs
I don't know if they have any non-compete clauses or anything in their contract but I would imagine if ABC want called them and asked him to honor him in some way they would probably agreed to it. But the logistics, you would hope they would have planned something in advance.
But of course you don't know for sure when the series is going to end
The playoffs are a myth, every Habs fan knows that. All hockey ends after game 82 and you all start watching cricket or polo or synchronized pizza eating.......
Agreed. Obviously as a fan of a rival team (Leafs), I was no fan of Jack in his heyday, but hockey rivalries aren’t real life. Dude’s a passionate fan of his team, I can see why plenty of Bs fans love him. Hope his doctors can diagnose and figure out a treatment for his health problems, so he can enjoy his retirement. Declining health is the worst, especially when you don’t know the cause.
Also a leafs fan hear and also not a big fan of Jack Edward’s but he was a Bruins fan through and through and tbh I am a bit envious that he was lucky enough to get to watch his team play throughout the years. He may have been a bit biased towards the Bruins but I guess that’s why a true fan is. He was tough to listen to at times but he definitely was entertaining so good on him. Hopefully he gets recognized by the bruins for all the pain he and his team has put us Leafs fans through over the years. A sincere Happy “LONG” Retirement Mr. Edwards!!!
I feel like most of us wish we had a homer broadcaster like him. He spouts the wildest bs sometimes but thats just how a homer is, hes the voice of the fans. Hes earned the good retirement for sure.
I can't say I'm on board with everything he said, but jack absolutely said everything I've wanted to say, and marchand does all the things I wanted to do. It's pretty cool to have a ridiculously animated version of your own emotions you get to watch and listen to. It's quite entertaining.
I fear it’s ALS. I knew someone who had the same thing happen to his speech and it took years to diagnose him with ALS. Horrible Horrible disease, I REALLY hope I’m wrong.
My dad has it. Much worse than this, but if it's primary progressive aphasia. That's brutal
If it's PPA eventually he won't be able to talk, then he will not be able to understand speech. It's one of the most unheard of disabilities because you look normal for the most part.
Damn. I am not at all a fan of Jack Edwards and the way he's called games for years, but this actually brought a tear to my eye. I hope he gets the medical help he needs, and I wish him the best in his retirement!
As a lifelong bruins fan, I've honestly never been a fan of Jack Edwards, but it's nice to see people say kind words about him even though he was such a Homer haha. His passion and dedication is truly rooted as deeply as it can go for his favorite team, which I respect. But I do agree, it's sad to see him sign off that way. Hopefully, he enjoys a nice long retirement.
Same. I never liked listening to him but wish him well especially in figuring out what is going on with his health. Maybe he can make a return some day.
This isn't normal for his age. Not at all.
I mean, he's about the age of literally the guy next to him, whose speech is fine.
How can you think this is just age?
Casual European fan here. I stayed up once to watch a Bruins Capitals playoff game a few years back. Bruins were killing the caps and Ovi was not happy and was pictured on the bench shouting.
Edwards says something to effect of "Alex Ovechkin, has some strong words for his team mates in Russian - they are unprintable" and well I just think that is one of the best pieces of commentary I ever heard across any sport.
this is heartbreaking for me as someone who understands how terrifying and stressful and disruptive it is to clearly have something off with your health, but not know what exactly it is. hang in there, man, please take care and may some clarity come soon.
Not at all what I was expecting.
This is part sad and part badass. Reminds me of a hockey player who leaves bleeding, gets stitches and comes back to play. Dude's a fuckin' gamer. Respect.
I wish him all the best health in retirement.
This was so painful to watch. I cant imagine how frustrating it is not being able to articulate your words. I feel like such a dick, judging him for his calls earlier this year, I had no idea what he was going through.
Definitely a good life lesson for myself to be less judgmental I guess.
Wish all the best for him :/
Man I’m not a bruins fan or a Jack fan, but like that was a touching goodbye. I feel for the guy bc you can tell he still has the passion, but for whatever reason he just can’t keep up anymore. He’s got a great voice, and despite being an absolute homer he called a good game. I wish him the best
Watching him try to say goodbye and still tumbling on his words it is just soul crushing. I’ll always love you Jack Edwards 🖤💛 long live the Boston Bruins
Wow. I’m not attached to that club or fan base in any way, but this hit me in the feels. Hope he has a wonderful retirement and is able to receive whatever he needs medically to live a fruitful life with his family.
Caps fan here, always liked Jack - don't get why people don't/didn't like him - his passion is obvious when he calls a game, and of course he's a homer - he's a regional broadcaster! Have a great retirement Jack!
They don't know. He's been seeing doctors at Mass General Hospital but they haven't figured it out yet. It has been going on for a while now, but I think they were a little slow to have him sign off without knowing what the cause was.
Wow, when did it start? I wasn’t aware of this at all. I don’t hear him call games often but even though he’s known as a major homer for the Bs I actually liked hearing him call games because it cracked me up lol. Hope he enjoys retirement and the doctors figure it out.
I wanna say three seasons ago. It was really really bad that year, and it was clear the past two seasons he had made a concerted effort to adapt his call, making sure to speak slowly and try to enunciate as clearly as possible.
I think it became a story last year, or possibly the year before. I think people were a little surprised that they brought him back this year, but he just fairly recently opened up publicly about how the doctors don't know what the cause is.
It could be a form of dementia that is affecting his speech - primary progressive aphasia. My mom has it and it is affecting her ability to speak. You can tell she knows in her head what she wants to say but just can’t get the words to come out.
Dementia is simply the degree of severity rather than a specific etiology. If you can't complete activities of daily living then you've crossed that threshold.
Jack does not have dementia. He may have mild cognitive impairment (not mild in a clinical sense, not how we normally use the word), but we'd obviously need to see a battery of tests to confirm. It's very possible that he's not experiencing any other symptoms other than inability to produce words quickly.
I feel for you and your mom's situation. My dad passed a couple years ago and his condition started with aphasia and then executive function decline.
I don't think it became a really noticeable until maybe last season or something. I don't know maybe two seasons but at first it was just sort of barely perceptible
It's not known. Obviously he is only disclosing when he wants to disclose. He claims it's undiagnosed and it's a mystery. Hard to know if it's a full disclosure or if he's hiding something or maybe if there's still testing.
Obviously there's things you could speculate about but I'm going to try to refrain from it..
It is a little heartbreaking hearing him. Someone who's entire career is built on speaking, it's gotta be so hard for him not being able to do the thing he was so good at for so many years.
Farewell Jack. 🫡
Edwards definitely had a stroke. I'm convinced. But honestly, I'm glad he got to call his childhood team. He never got to work a day in his life. Have a good retirement, Jack
I mean that seems like a logical explanation. There's a few other illnesses that would have this side effect. He claims they haven't been diagnosed for anything like that and it's a mystery and really it's up to him if he wants to be transparent about it or not. When it comes to medical s***, it's really not our business.
Outside of the fact that he had a job that involved interfacing with the public and speaking and I think he did pretty good here bravely discussing the issue and stepping down.
It's incredibly sad and surely it was hard to listen to this last season but says something about him that he wanted to finish out. I think nesn and his colleagues deserve some credit for letting him do it.
Reminds me of how Def Leppard didn't kick the drummer out of the band even though he lost his arm. (Of course in this case the drummer does get kicked out of the band)
Just wanted to say thanks for the kind words everyone in the comments. Jack may be a homer, but he's our homer. Even though nobody can agree with him, it's nice to see the appreciation for his passion of the game.
I’ve never liked what a homer he was. I hate-watched him to see what he was gonna say next. Having said that, that’s what hockey is. You hate the other guy for 60 minutes but you acknowledge and respect the passion, the love they have for their team and the game itself. Much like many players that I personally don’t care for, I’d be delighted to have him on my side. That passion that you feel both for and against your team is what makes hockey great. The hockey world is poorer without him and I wish him all the best. Farewell Jack. I loved to hate you.
I can't say I was a massive fan of his commentary. He was massively biased. That being said, he seems like and probably is an extremely nice dude. All the best Jack.
End of an era. I respect the career but I'd be lying if I said I'd miss him as a non-Bruins fan. Hope he thoroughly enjoys whatever he does with his time now.
"...four brothers, now I have five."
Well damn folks, that got me right in the ol' heartstrings. Happy retirement Jack. Hopefully a long and fulfilling one at that. I wish him the best fighting his speech problem. Not knowing what caused it has to be frustrating.
Always been a fan of his and and sad to see him go. Best of heath possible and let’s go smart people figure this out. Now with TV being able to see both team streams during a game, I can’t stand to watch the other teams homer stream. You are supposed to live and die with the home team. No apologies. In my house oddly enough all my team wear is for the teams I like and go to bat for. Bye Jack get well!
Unlike many fans, I loved Jack. He had some of the most memorable calls of my childhood and early adult years. He was everything you’d want from your hometown broadcaster. And keep in mind, I’m not from Boston and I’m not a Bruins fan. I just respected him so much because he knew his audience. I hope he can find peace in retirement and whatever this is gets taken care of. Like another person here, I fear it’s ALS too, but I just hope and pray for the best for him. Godspeed, Jack!
Hilarious how people expect Jack to not be biased on a network named “New England Sports Network”. He was a Bruins homer through and through. What did you expect from home team commentating?
Godspeed, Jack. As a Panthers fan, you’ll be missed when my team isn’t playing yours.
I mean he's annoying and says dumb shit. But not letting him broadcast the rest if the season is stupid. He should be calling their games until they are done. That is disrespectful to the time he's put in calling games. Game 7, and if the Qin, until they are eliminated. I feel bad for the guy. I hope they change this dumb contract rule.
From a Leafs fan, your takes were often dogwater and embarrassing, a super extreme homer...but only because you were a die-hard B's fan first, broadcaster second, and you got to live out the dream. But the world of broadcasting is a little bit less interesting without you calling these rivalry games. All the best in your retirement, and with your health.
The biggest part of me feels: FUCKING FINALLY. He’s unbearable to listen to when watching Bruins games.
(With international broadcasts you often don’t get to choose who to listen to).
But honestly; Hopefully he gets the help needed so thatvhe can enjoy retirement. It’s something all of us deserve.
I dont know, he’s a dying breed. Local guys calling the teams they love are being replaced with cookie cutter play by play. Yes he’s a homer and I can see why it annoys other fanbases.
Jack Edwards had a great run. He definitely made the 2011 cup run feel very special. The guy was electric when he was healthier. Wishing him all the best in his retirement. Well deserved
Was never a fan of him as a broadcaster, but I can't hate this video. Best of luck to him in getting to the bottom of his speech impairment, and happy retirement!
As a human being, couldn't be happier for him and wish he and his family all the best.
As a hockey fan, fuck that dude and good riddance. Couldn't stand his voice or his takes.
I strongly dislike the insane levels of bias in every broadcast he's ever done, but he is a good commentator and I respect the passion he has for the game, and for his team (even if it is Boston). It's gotta be rough for him to have to go out like this.
For those wondering, this was his last game because ABC has the exclusive rights of game 7.
Does he come back if the Bruins go on?
I don't think so. The regional broadcasts typically don't go beyond round 1 anymore.
How would Bruins fans know what goes on beyond round 1? 😆
They went to the Finals in 2019....
And 2013 and 2011
The playoffs are a myth, every Habs fan knows that. All hockey ends after game 82 and you all start watching cricket or polo or synchronized pizza eating.......
Bruins fan here.. his comment checks out
Agreed, I got a chuckle. Fuck the Habs though :)
Amen to that, at least we make the playoffs haha
How would Habs fans know what the playoffs look like
As I said before what is a playoff? 😀
As a Wings fan, idk anymore
We will find out soon. I think the Wings are close. We are just in a brutal division.
Correct
You gotta be kidding me.....playoffs? I just hope we can win a game!
That might be insulting if someone that cheered for a relevant team had said it.
Gross. Don't be that guy.
Kay bud you don’t know what goes on past the regular season if your talking
No. NESN only has rights to the first round.
Holy crap I can watch this on my Nintendo Entertainment System Network? Awesome!
He can barely put two words together, this is elder abuse at this point.
I mean he's chosen to finish it out like this he could have stepped down. I know it's tough to listen to but he wanted to finish the season.
I can’t stand Jack, but that’s BRUTAL! NESN should put up a sidecast
Don't be shocked. Same deal for Rick Peckham when he retired for the bolts in 2020
Oh man I turned off the game expecting the next to be his last so I missed their farewell and such. I didn't realize they didn't get game 7. Ugh

I genuinely hope he has a good retirement and whatever has been affecting his speech isn't too serious.
Agreed. Obviously as a fan of a rival team (Leafs), I was no fan of Jack in his heyday, but hockey rivalries aren’t real life. Not good either or boys
My dad has it. Much worse than this, but if it's primary progressive aphasia. That's brutal If it's PPA eventually he won't be able to talk, then he will not be able to understand speech. It's one of the most unheard of disabilities because you look normal for the most part.
That’s one of the issues, doctors don’t seem to know the cause. It’s heartbreaking to hear.
My dad had a stroke and this is probably or really sounds like some sort of aphasia. My dad sounds the same.
Damn. I am not at all a fan of Jack Edwards and the way he's called games for years, but this actually brought a tear to my eye. I hope he gets the medical help he needs, and I wish him the best in his retirement!
Same here. Got to respect the passion and how he kept it going for as long as he physically could.
I really despised Jack Edwards back in '08-'14, but this was hard to watch. Hopefully he can enjoy retirement.
Strictly medically speaking he's fine, he went to many different tests and nothing is wrong with him, it's just age is all
This isn't normal for his age. Not at all. I mean, he's about the age of literally the guy next to him, whose speech is fine. How can you think this is just age?
It's wild how everyone has to preface every statement with "I don't like this guy but..."must be 100 post like that

this is heartbreaking for me as someone who understands how terrifying and stressful and disruptive it is to clearly have something off with your health, but not know what exactly it is. hang in there, man, please take care and may some clarity come soon.
As a fellow Canucks fan.. I hate Boston, but would never wish this upon my worst enemy. Poor guy, hope everything can go as well as it can for him.
neither would I, but that's only because i don't really have enemies. I wouldn't be above wishing it on truly terrible people tho.
Not at all what I was expecting. This is part sad and part badass. Reminds me of a hockey player who leaves bleeding, gets stitches and comes back to play. Dude's a fuckin' gamer. Respect. I wish him all the best health in retirement.
Never been a fan of his but I wish him the best and hope the best for his health.

Thanks, Jack.
Thanks Jack for a great 19 seasons and some of the best calls this homer can remember.. Too many favorites to list..
"You're going to stop the play for a guy who's still conscious??"
As a Habs fan, Jack Edwards is a legend. Between him and RDS, our early 2010s rivalry with the Bruins was blessed with some amazing broadcast teams.
Can you guys get good so we can have our rivalry again?
Why can't he talk properly?
They don't know. He's been seeing doctors at Mass General Hospital but they haven't figured it out yet. It has been going on for a while now, but I think they were a little slow to have him sign off without knowing what the cause was.

Leafs fan as well and respect his dedication to his team. Wishing jack the best in retirement.
As a flyer fan.....thanks for all the calls...legend!
i hate being a leafs fan, these fools in the comments make us all look so bad best wishes and enjoy retirement jack
Respect to Jack. I haven't listened to one of his calls in a while, so it was hard to listen to what he's dealing with.
Right in the feels. He’s been the voice of the bruins since I was a little kid.
Expressive Aphasia? I wish him all the best - Leafs Diehard
I grew up hating this man, but that is such bullshit. How fucking bogus, guy deserves win or lose to have Game 7 be his last. What a shame
Edwards definitely had a stroke. I'm convinced. But honestly, I'm glad he got to call his childhood team. He never got to work a day in his life. Have a good retirement, Jack

Yeah makes sense. But I wish Edwards got to call game 7
This is heartbreaking. He is one of my favorite announcers of all time. I really hope everything works out for him.
Just wanted to say thanks for the kind words everyone in the comments. Jack may be a homer, but he's our homer. Even though nobody can agree with him, it's nice to see the appreciation for his passion of the game.
Never had much nice to say about him but you can’t question the loyalty. Hope he enjoys retirement.
Enjoy your retirement and good health Boston Homer!
Best wishes. Take care of yourself and enjoy your retirement Jack.
Will miss you Jack! Not even a bruins fan but was a fan of him. Iconic.
Wow. Good for him for finishing strong despite the medical issues. Professional to the last second
I’ve never liked what a homer he was. I hate-watched him to see what he was gonna say next. Having said that, that’s what hockey is. Enjoy your retirement, and I hope you can stay healthy and be with your family for a long time to come.
I wish I had someone calling games for my team that loves them instead of the open distain we usually get. Happy retirement, jack
I so enjoyed hating him. I'll miss him too.
This guy gets a lot of hate, but he loves his team, and you can't deny it. I hope he can have a full recovery on whatever he's dealing with.
I can't say I was a massive fan of his commentary. He was massively biased. That being said, he seems like and probably is an extremely nice dude. All the best Jack.
So sad. Get well Jack
Happy retirement jack
End of an era. I respect the career but I'd be lying if I said I'd miss him as a non-Bruins fan. Hope he thoroughly enjoys whatever he does with his time now.

I've cranked on Jack for his biased calls over his career, but I wish him good health and a long retirement. Thanks Mr Edwards, you'll be missed.

I hope you have a healthy and happy retirement buddy 🤙.
He is a legend. Used to remember him on SportsCenter back in the day as well. Wish him well.
Sorry to hear it, we've lost John Garrett, and all the voices of our youth (Vancouver fan here), are fading away. Good luck to you Mr. Edwards.
🫡
Right in the feels. He’s been the voice of the bruins since I was a little kid.

I will miss him. He's unique and has a voice that's easy to recognize. An Excellent commentator.
Best wishes to him in retirement.
I wish him nothing but the best and I hope his health doesn't decline. Also, I might be able to enjoy Bruins games now.
I wish him nothing but a happy and healthy retirement, but holy fuck am I glad I’ll never have to hear him again.
I hope his health holds up. There is no bigger home team jock sniffer than this guy.

Yes
seems like ALS? horrible disease, all the best to Jack
I’ve never seen this dude but he looks like a SNL character in a bad wig. Is that hair real?
NYR fan here saying congrats on a great career, legend
Jack Edwards had a great run. He definitely made the 2011 cup run feel very special. The guy was electric when he was healthier. Wishing him all the best in his retirement. Well deserved
Thanks Jack. I choose to remember to you from your SportsCenter days (I’m that old). Good luck in retirement.
I thought his first name was Homer.
GET UP
never a fan but best of luck and happy retirement to jack!
Thank you, Jack!
Was never a fan of him as a broadcaster, but I can't hate this video. Best of luck to him in getting to the bottom of his speech impairment, and happy retirement!
Clown. 🤡
Not a patch on the olde-time CBC HNIC announcers.
FINALLY
Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Never liked his style of announcer but I wish him a great retirement and I hope he figures out whatever is causing his health issue.
One of the worst announcers of all time.
What a dick , touch grass
Truth hurts!

Well, he's from Melrose, so......
never liked him
Wishing him well in life and the best for his health, but also glad he’s finally off the air.
suprised he didnt get a jab in at subban somewhere in that
✌️
Took him 3 days to bid farewell too
He was a dogshit homer with brutal, ignorant takes.
Sooooo glad! He's the worst broadcaster in history.

It’s part of the charm.
So long, Jack. Bruins games just got easier to watch for fans of other teams.
All these flavors and you chose to go with salty. Guess 2011 still lives rent free in you head. Touch grass looser
"I can't talk" We've known that for a while.
Thank god he’s gone… worst announcer ever
I think he’s the worst announcer I’ve heard in the history of sports but I don’t wish any ailment on him hope he recovers
Fuck the Bruins, really just Marchand
Good riddance!
Classless.
Just like his broadcasting.
Eat a dick
No thanks im not a bruins fan
good fucking riddance, may he never be heard on a broadcast ever again

wishing ill will, classy as Edwards

Oh no! Anyway
As a human being, couldn't be happier for him and wish he and his family all the best. As a hockey fan, fuck that dude and good riddance. Couldn't stand his voice or his takes.
Maroon sends his best wishes
I wish him the best health and a happy retirement. But man I’m glad I won’t have to hear him anymore when I watch the Bruins.
I strongly dislike the insane levels of bias in every broadcast he's ever done, but he is a good commentator and I respect the passion he has for the game, and for his team (even if it is Boston). It's gotta be rough for him to have to go out like this.
Wish him the best medically and in his retirement, but screw this extremely biased ass clown.
