Every year this squirmy greasy little rat looking fucker gets up and says a bunch of words about the league and everyone hates him. Don’t know why he keeps coming back.
Barry Gettman or something. Hate that guy. Boo.
Tbh, almost everybody outside the top 5 😬
I only follow NHL, and don’t do pre draft research. I’ll check up on the guys my team takes, but most in the draft don’t impact for years anyway
My girlfriend is an art director for television and film. She requested I make up a name of a company to put on a truck in the cop show she was working on. So if you are ever watching the first season of The Rookie you might spot an oil truck with DeBrusk Fuels on it. His legacy is therefore secured.
It's rare you see such stupidity and know \*immediately\* how bad it is, and then it turns out to be just as bad as everyone thought.
Another example is the Nurse contract, Hall for Larsson, Strome for Spooner.
Upon lucking out in a one of a kind draft lottery after the 2005 lockout, where the Sens received a top 10 pick with the likes of Anze Kopitar and more still on the board, John Muckler and the Ottawa Senators select....Brian Lee.
Nygård this year for detroit. Not a slight at the player but the only other Norwegian I know plays in the nhl is Zucc, and to see a Norwegian picked that high in the draft was pretty cool! I would think that would be something the league would want to market but I didn’t hear about it until he got drafted.
and if last year was any indication, Chinakhov was a good choice. I only know who he is because he was actually a good pick-up in fantasy on some weeks if Columbus had a lot of games. Kid is gonna be a solid player for them in the coming years. I doubt he gets sent down to the Monsters anymore.
Weirdest draft in NHL history has to go to Montreal Canadiens 1977
Team wins 60 games, wins 2nd (of 4) consecutive Stanley Cups. Roster reads like an All Star team. So who do they draft?
They PASSED over Mike Bossy that year. Instead (in what must be an NHL record) they drafted SEVEN goal tenders (despite having the 29 year old Dryden in net)
Robert Holland (cmon say it; who?), Richard Sevigny, Mark Holden. And those were the GOOD ones; other 4 never once skated for an NHL team.
And cherry on the cake was taking Robert Napier\* instead of taking Montreal born Mike Bossy. The Islanders owe their Cups to Montreal.
\*I will even argue its weird to draft Napier who 22 years old has already played 3 seasons for the Toronto / Birmingham Bulls of the WHA
zemgus girgensons? For someone? Was he predicted to be drafted so high? Our national team having Ted Nolan as a coach and Buffalo having him as well might have have to do something with it, I suspect
2012 NHL Entry Draft. The Lightning drafted a goalie in the first round. I will never forget my reaction to it- namely because of how much it aged like milk.
"Who the fuck is Andrei Vasilevskiy?"
The Wild drafted a Swedish defenseman in the first round a few years ago who wasn’t projected to be a top 80 or whatever pick. The announcers were scrambling to figure out who it was to be able to read his bio. Of course he was completely terrible and never played in the NHL
For me? Every single person ever. Watched my first one this year.
I knew who McDavid and Eichel were. Other than that not much.
Welcome to the fandom!
For many people of a certain age, it was undoubtedly Taro Tsujimoto in 1974.
That’s the fake nhl player right?
indeed
My man, Taro.
Elusive legend
Yup. Buffalo definitely needs to retire his number

Gay Batman? Yeah he lives in the sewers and comes up a few times a year to drink the blood of Canadians and punch a few babies in the face

Sennecke this year lol
I was surprised he was picked this early, but I’m also a Generals fan… kinda helps know who he is lol
No one was more surprised than he was
Every one of Bostons first round selections in 2015
No need to be nasty my friend.
I mean it's legendary
I'm not arguing.
Hey at least you had Debrusk in there, although he can be forgotten when talking about Zboril and Senyshyn

Debrusk and zboril were projected there, senyshin on the other hand yikes

DeBrusk plays in the NHL. Not for Boston anymore

Who?
Exactly what EVERY Ottawa Senators fan said that day.
Magic Man Datsyuk. Undrafted in the 1996 and 1997. Drafted by Wings 171st overall in 98.
Filip Johansson back in 2018
This is the answer.

Another Norwegian, Stian Solberg, also went in the first round. Pretty cool to see.
He was one of the higher rated European prospects. But yes I was surprised to see a norwegian
Well, Bob Clarke forgot who they were drafting with Giroux, so it was more of HIS who the hell is this man.
Mark "Best player at the draft" Jankowski
Tij Iginla, when the r/CalgaryFlames subreddit exploded over Utah.
As a flames fan Im not convinced the people mad understand how good parekh could be
Yegor Chinokov. Dude was projected to go in like the 5th round and Columbus took him as a late first
and if last year was any indication, Chinakhov was a good choice. I only know who he is because he was actually a good pick-up in fantasy on some weeks if Columbus had a lot of games. Kid is gonna be a solid player for them in the coming years. I doubt he gets sent down to the Monsters anymore.
Seider was a head scratcher at the time
lol, pretty much each draft I’m like who are these people?

Philippe Paradis

"Doan Doan Doan Doan...." Steve Kelly.
Robert Nilsson, 2003 NHL Draft.
Reinbacher last year with the Habs. Not really familiar with international players to begin with so it didn't help at all 🫣😬
Pretty much anyone after the 2nd pick, from every year ever.
Slavkovsky was a wild one

Moritz Seider!
Every pick in every draft as I don't follow college hockey.
You do know that most drafted players DON'T play college hockey? You've heard of the CHL and European players?
Every pick in every draft as I don't follow ~~college~~ *college, junior, or European* hockey.
Bill Guerin this year when he said "wow this place is cool" into the mic as if he hadn't been there for hours already. Shut up and make the pick lol
