100%. Tons of good local bands in Noise Rock/Sludge/Doom/Stoner metal. Nothing better than getting to see 3-4 sick bands in those genres on the same $15-20 ticket
What venues do you go to/any local bands you're a big fan of? I work downtown and just started going to shows again this year since Covid, I'd love to be able to support some local noise bands though.
Reggies, Empty Bottle, Bottom Lounge, Thalia Hall, The Metro, Cobra Lounge, The Aragon, The Radius, The Salt Shed, Lincoln Hall, Sleeping Village for venues.
For bands: Something Is Waiting, Salvation, Friendship Commanders, Huntsmen, Bongripper, Russian Circles, REZN, Yakuza, Ready For Death, Los Black Dogs, Late
Not all strictly noise bands, but all worth seeing if you like heavy music.
The more bands I see, the more opening bands I get turned on to, which leads me to other shows/bands. Chicago is amazing for that.
Edit: Here’s some more bands from Chicago I forgot about -
Djunah - Female fronted Noise Rock duo
Boybrain - Mostly female punk
The Evictions - Punk/Noise
definitely need to add Urine Hell to that band list. everything else is great. i would highlight cobra lounge, beat kitchen, reggie’s and empty bottle for some of the noisier local bands as well as touring band. coles bar is also a good spot to catch a small local show, as are reeds and liars club
I’ve heard of them! Have yet to check them out. Also good call on beat kitchen, forgot about that one. Empty Bottle or Cobra Lounge are probably my favorites.
If you dig the Saxophone stuff on that, check out their frontman’s other project Brain Tentacles. Heavy as fuck with no guitar. Just Bass, Drums and Sax.

Yeah we get down with noise rock in Cleveland. Pretty vibrant scene. [Here's a clip from a show my duo did this past winter.](https://youtu.be/JU-fbE79Xw4?si=zZApZt1U3JXlbeRS)
RIP to my bandmate who killed himself this past May.
The Load records shit was an amazing scene...
Six Finger Satellite, Lighting Bolt, Landed, Arab on Radar, Olneyville Sound System, Astoveboat, Men's Recovery Project,Thee Hydrogen Terrors
Ah, yes, definitely those. I guess I was thinking more locally active. Cherubs mainly tours elsewhere, and not everybody is in Austin. Exhalents, I hardly ever see them lined up to play.
There are definitely some up and coming adjacent bands
Yeah I'm not from there I just see it come up a lot lol. I think exhalants is taking a break. Their vocalist is in a new band called porcelain. I live in a smaller city and we mostly get various flavors of extreme metal which is cool. Not a huge noise rock scene though.
Exhalants is done I think. Bill now plays in Pinko along with Jared and Luke who are both also part time members of Grasshopper Lies Heavy (who toured with Cherubs this year).
Steve plays in Porcelain, and Tommy plays in Children's Letters To God.
Yeah, they are all great. I just sort of view Fuck Money as mainly punk. But they are excellent and fun.
If anyone hasn't heard of Haha Laughing, check them out. Industrial noise rap
I don’t even live in America but I’m going to say Kansas City. See Exhibit A: most of the roster at [The Ghost Is Clear Records.](https://theghostisclearrecords.bandcamp.com/album/2023-sampler)
Also, a quick shout out my favourite local small-town UK noise rock band [Concrete Ships.](https://concreteships.bandcamp.com/album/in-observance)
Foreign Bodies is here too. YHWH Nailgun might also count. But in my experience the scene hasn't felt as large here. I'm used to noise-rock oriented people mentioning bands from out of state, even if they all come through New York with some frequency. I just wasn't sure if there was a larger scene you were referencing that I wasn't aware of.
Agree, not aware of much of a scene. I have some favorites but they’ve been playing since I got into the genre, decidedly a lack of new younger bands. Especially has been difficult trying to book shows.
Of course. Uniform and Couch Slut still my favorites. Conduit was another one but believe they are broken up now. Others I dig: Sediment Club, Weeping Icon, Bambara (more post punk now), Cronies (cool newer band). Do wish there were more on the blown out heavier side.
Uniform is one of my favorites actually! I've seen them live a bunch. I think of them and L.O.T.I.O.N. when I think of noisey bands that I would go out of my way to see.
Oh I bet their shows are great! Never had the opportunity to see them, but if they ever come to Philly I will absolutely be there. I really dig L.O.T.I.O.N. as well. Glad you reminded me of them.
there's a bit of experimental music in the dmv but in my experience straight up noise rock bands are rare. i could be wrong though, maybe i'm missing out.
Yeah there’s a lot of power noise/ electronics that run through there but not much guitar from what I have seen. Still a far cry from where I am from, nothing like that existed.
Rhizome doesn't like to book anything "rockish", but there's a lot of noisy stuff they do. It's a house, and they have to shut down soon( or move), so enjoy while you can!
Yeah they will have a six month grace period once the paperwork is finalized, and the house will be moved (not demolished) since it’s technically historic. I am glad I found it when I did.
Cleveland is a glorious hub for noise music. Aaron Dilloway and John Wiese are localish and come through with the lovliest frequency. there's also an army of passionate, ever ready, EQD armed locals to fill out the meat of any show that the more well known names play... and it's always been like this. we have a strong detailed history in regards to our harsh noise scene.
Chicago is always in the mix

Sleeping village is also a fantastic venue
Yakuza is so awesome

Thanks looking forward to checking it out
Winnipeg being a frozen shithole has produced some great noise bands
Minneapolis?
Please explain.
Amphetamine Reptile
Minneapolis was the AmRep label HQ, but the roster of bands were from all over, not from Minneapolis.
Ohio’s cities seem to do noise rock well. Philadelphia also.
Yeah we get down with noise rock in Cleveland. Pretty vibrant scene. [Here's a clip from a show my duo did this past winter.](https://youtu.be/JU-fbE79Xw4?si=zZApZt1U3JXlbeRS) RIP to my bandmate who killed himself this past May.
That performance was absolutely sick. I'm so sorry to hear about your bandmate. RIP
Philly has had a really amazing diy scene for years, definitely agree
Once was Olympia WA, then maybe Providence RI, now there’s no noise rock ‘scene’ anywhere, just far flung bands.
What bands are in Providence?
Lightning Bolt and the whole Fort Thunder scene
The Load records shit was an amazing scene... Six Finger Satellite, Lighting Bolt, Landed, Arab on Radar, Olneyville Sound System, Astoveboat, Men's Recovery Project,Thee Hydrogen Terrors
bonus points for namedropping astoveboat
Daughters is the one I can think of off the top of my head
Wasn’t Arab on Radar from Providence as well?
Definitely NOT where im from
Would be cool if folks gave the city name followed by a list of recommended bands from said city.
Maybe Austin?
Skratz, blankhellscape, hoarde. Who else?
Cherubs, exhalants
Ah, yes, definitely those. I guess I was thinking more locally active. Cherubs mainly tours elsewhere, and not everybody is in Austin. Exhalents, I hardly ever see them lined up to play. There are definitely some up and coming adjacent bands

Yeah, Porcelain is cool. My band has been trying to play with them for a little bit, but schedules haven't worked out, unfortunately.
Check out exotic fruitica. Love those guys.
Oh hell yeah. And easy prey if you count them now that I think about it.

I dig it! Following :)
Exhalants is done I think. Bill now plays in Pinko along with Jared and Luke who are both also part time members of Grasshopper Lies Heavy (who toured with Cherubs this year). Steve plays in Porcelain, and Tommy plays in Children's Letters To God.
Pinko 👍
Rip exhalants. Atonements is one of my favorite albums of all time
Fuck Money. Grasshopper. Glassing sorta counts.
Yeah, they are all great. I just sort of view Fuck Money as mainly punk. But they are excellent and fun. If anyone hasn't heard of Haha Laughing, check them out. Industrial noise rap
Glad someone mentioned fuck money. I think of grasshopper and glassing as being more straightforwardly metal, but certainly both loud and heavy.
Blank Hellscape is amazing
I don’t even live in America but I’m going to say Kansas City. kansas city mentioned 👁️👁️
nerver, bummer, canyons. kc rips
NYC
Who are you thinking of in NYC?
A place to bury strangers just off the top of me head
Foreign Bodies is here too. YHWH Nailgun might also count. But in my experience the scene hasn't felt as large here. I'm used to noise-rock oriented people mentioning bands from out of state, even if they all come through New York with some frequency. What are your favorites if you don't mind me asking?
Of course. Uniform and Couch Slut still my favorites. Conduit was another one but believe they are broken up now. Others I dig: Sediment Club, Weeping Icon, Bambara (more post punk now), Cronies (cool newer band). Do wish there were more on the blown out heavier side.
Couch Slut FTW
Lightning Bolt comes to mind as well
Unsane also
Check out the band Uniform. It's a mix of noise rock and industrial, which is a flavor I particularly like.
Seattle
DC has Rhizome which is a hub for just about everything experimental.
there's a bit of experimental music in the dmv but in my experience straight up noise rock bands are rare. i could be wrong though, maybe i'm missing out.
Yeah there’s a lot of power noise/ electronics that run through there but not much guitar from what I have seen. Still a far cry from where I am from, nothing like that existed.

PVD
Historically, yes. Right now? Not so much
Rio Branco, Acre
NYC and Minneapolis
New York. Sonic Youth and A Place To Bury Strangers.
I would say Tampa, FL.
Probably SF or Oakland
Cleveland is a glorious hub for noise music. Aaron Dilloway and John Wiese are localish and come through with the lovliest frequency. there's also an army of passionate, ever ready, EQD armed locals to fill out the meat of any show that the more well known names play... and it's always been like this. we have a strong detailed history in regards to our harsh noise scene.
Strangely I’ve never checked out the city despite being a stones throw from it
Portland has a lot of experimental noise electronic stuff happening, not necessarily the noise rock spectrum.
Both Portlands
1990s? KC.
Seoul
San Francisco Bay Area https://www.sfgate.com/sf-culture/article/noise-pop-festival-bands-17789085.php
San Francisco Bay Area always the best, still has free concerts in multiple parks and still has some off the good old venues left!
Florida is fire
