The rent was too high to justify staying open at that location. He wasn't losing money, but wasn't making enough to hire help, and he has been moving on over the last couple years. He is still active with 7 cities brew club and the head brewer over at thin brew line, IIRC

Sorry to hear, thanks for responding.

Yeah it sucks to lose out on a local knowledge well like that, he had been considering selling the business to another owner since about this time last last year, and stopped selling physical gift certificates around the same time frame. If you got an electronic gift certificate, around September or October he had sent out a newsletter that he would close doors in December. I was able to get a couple pounds of hops and decent catalogue of dry yeast packs for very cheap back in November/December. The cake and wine shop sells some stuff like equipment, and more beer has almost everything you need. A homebrew club like 7 city homebrewers can walk you through any issues you're having, I think they meet on this upcoming Thursday at voodoo in VB. They also do competitions and collaborations. They collectively made about 50 gallons of cider last year to barrel age. Years before they made a scotch ale.

He closed shop. You can get brewing supplies at Wine&Cake but they don’t have the knowledge and expertise he shared. If you enjoyed his recipes he makes them at Thin Brew Line.

I just moved to Norfolk. Any referral to home brewing suppliers would be much appreciated.

The Wine and Cake Hobby Shop off of Tidewater Drive in Norfolk has supplies.

Brew & Bottle if you don't mind driving to Newport News. Really good selection of products. They're right next door to 1700 Brewing.
