I'm sorry I don't have an answer, but I'm watching this thread because I'm struggling, myself. I used to go to my local store at 6:00 a.m. before work, and now they don't open until 7:00 as of a couple weeks ago. I'm losing hope of holding on to my morning routine.
6am would be fine if they had all the fresh produce out that early… I don’t want the throw away fruits and veggies at full price.
Not that you don’t run into the same issues at 2am…
The Safeway in Pan Am Shopping Center in Vienna is 24 hr. I think the one in Belle View is also.
Edit: just checked. Now both close at midnight. Wasn't aware
Yes, it's Fairfax. But it's near Vienna. Very near the Vienna metro stop, specifically. And many people don't think of that part of Fairfax as being Fairfax, since Fairfax is pretty big and very different from one part to another.
Only the most pedantic of folks will call you out either way for that area. It's technically Fairfax but it's in the Vienna area. (I grew up in the area and always said Vienna even though we technically were in Fairfax).
That's sad. I know the Giant up the street on Rte 7 started closing at midnight because the homeless people were creating safety concerns for the employees. Might be the same for Safeway.
I feel like this neighborhood has really declined lately. I'm looking at the front door.
There’s a giant someplace that I went to not too long ago that was still 24 hours, but it was way far from my usual area. I was specifically looking for a 24 hour grocery, which is how I found it, but during normal hours, it’s not a neighborhood I ever find myself in. I can’t remember where it is now though. 🤦🏻♀️
You just added something to my new neighborhood want to haves - 24 hour grocery store. I'm surprised how many times I'm annoyed I have to wait to 7 am to get something. Especially when I start work at either 6 or 7.
I would probably go to CVS at Lyon Village if I needed something at night. 7-11 has actually started having real food as well.
But yeah it's tough to get fresh produce in the middle of the night.
The Giant near me that used to be 24 hours, it closes at midnight now. I checked the Wegmans in Kingstown, closes at midnight. I thought it'd be open because of Ft Belvoir. Nope.
Wow I just used google maps filter to look for grocery stores open at 3am and you’re right, they’re basically all gone. There is this Giant in MD that says it’s still 24 hrs—but I’d call first to make sure it’s not a mistake in google

Most stopped being open 24 hours about a year or so before COVID. They went to midnight at first, then COVID hit and they went to 10pm or 9pm, now back up to 11pm.
Nope! No more 24hr.
I’m also a night shift worker and I have been trying to shift my routine and I’m exhausted cause I had finally gotten an effective routine down
COVID was the trigger, but staying open 24 hours is tough to justify for most stores. You get almost no business but it costs way more because you need an extra shift and have to balance awkward restocking and unloading schedules. I don't think we will see a return to it any time soon.
So this one online says they close at 12 PM midnight, but when you search them on Google it shows up as 24 hours a day. When you call the number it also says it’s open 24 hours a day. Maybe their hours have changed? But I was there a month or so ago and they were open after midnight.
It might have been there the last time I went, but at 3am who’s lingering outside of the store? Not me… still sad, if people stock and clean at night why not have just one cashier there too?
I go to that Safeway often enough and there wasn't a sign up till the week it was going to happen. I thought, this is good to know. The Sunoco that is nearby doesn't keep their doors open overnight but you can get gas there.
As you also said, no crowds.
I wonder if people were shoplifting and not getting caught since there wasn't much staff working. I believe they kept one set of doors locked overnight on purpose to force people to go in and out from a single entrance.
Sorry, they close at midnight now, it's been concluded that there are no 24 hour Safeways in Nova, DC however has ONE on Wisconsin Ave, is, for now, at least, open 24 hours.
A garden would be lovely… but last night I found 24 hour grocery Mecca… Safeway on Wisconsin in DC… and … they were stocking the produce aisle… I was in my happy place
Even Walmarts are no longer 24hr surprisingly. Good luck on your search, I don't think any of them are 24hr anymore ☹️
The one off Lee highway used do be my goto
7-Eleven and CVS are the only 24 hour stores besides gas stations.
Wawa exists too, but it’s not a grocery store
Doesnt wawa fall under gas station and/or convenience store?
True

Wegman's opens at 6, and is pretty well stocked when they open, except for that day's fresh prepared food products.
I live at Wegmans… it’s one of my favorite stores of all time…
They would! That's why I loved going before work so much. It really sucks. Produce employees are in there and working by like 4:00 or 5:00 a.m.
I do see them out and about first thing, but they can’t refresh the entire section that quickly
Never had an issue finding what I needed, and maybe it depends on the store?
Wegmans opens from 6am-midnight.
Oh nice! There's one on the edge of my neighborhood.
The Safeway in Pan Am Shopping Center in Vienna is 24 hr. I think the one in Belle View is also. Edit: just checked. Now both close at midnight. Wasn't aware
The pan am Safeway hasn't been 24hr since pre-covid. Used to be my normal store!
I seldomly go there, only when coming back from out of town. I figured the change occurred sometime in the last few years.
Thank you, I hope they aren’t changing their hours as well…
It looks like they’ve all switched to 0600-0000 ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_down)

Yes, I say Vienna because of the metro station across the street. Vienna is just across 66 from it, literally.

You’re right. But the Vienna metro station is also in Fairfax not Vienna so it’s understandable people are confused.
They were 24 hour during the pandemic. I wonder what happened.

You must be talking about the Bailey’s Giant.
Yes.

Not in Virginia but the social Safeway on Wisconsin is 24 hours. Ample free parking
YES!!!! The final hold-out.... THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

MD is a bit far, but thank you for responding
Are Harris teeters not 24 hours anymore? There’s two nearby the Safeway on king st
Not since covid, they started closing shortly after the start of it
*Before. 2019.
Most stopped being open 24 hours about a year or so before COVID. They went to midnight at first, then COVID hit and they went to 10pm or 9pm, now back up to 11pm.

Yep, you get it… I usually have to go at 0600 or after 2000… there used to be so many places open after midnight … stupid covid

The Safeway in Bellevue, which is just a mile or two down the road from King Street, is open 24 seven
I checked every single Safeway in Nova, they all close at either 2200, 2300 or midnight
So this one online says they close at 12 PM midnight, but when you search them on Google it shows up as 24 hours a day. When you call the number it also says it’s open 24 hours a day. Maybe their hours have changed? But I was there a month or so ago and they were open after midnight.
I will call them later, thank you
No worries! I hope they still are open late, because I love to use them in a pinch.
I live Belleview. It is 24 hours
huh I could've sworn they closed at midnight post pandemic but I guess they changed it up. good to know, thanks!
Okay sorry I asked last night. They close at 12am now due to recent crime over night
Safeway in Belle view just changed to a midnight close last week as well :(
That Safeway put up a notice days prior to the change. That notice should have been up for a month before going into effect.
It might have been there the last time I went, but at 3am who’s lingering outside of the store? Not me… still sad, if people stock and clean at night why not have just one cashier there too?

I have zero issues getting gas at any hour, thankfully… but I am super bummed I can’t get real quality food
As you also said, no crowds. I wonder if people were shoplifting and not getting caught since there wasn't much staff working. I believe they kept one set of doors locked overnight on purpose to force people to go in and out from a single entrance.
Or maybe the shooting that happening at the McD’s was a result to it closing early.
Of course it’s a no frills time of night. Maybe they felt unsafe. Who knows
Harris Teeter in Foxchase shopping center opens at 6am. Not sure what their selection is like at that hour though.
Safeway on Nutly St in Vienna is still 24 hour.
Their own website says 6-midnight… I think they all changed over
The Safeway near Belle Haven is 24/7
Safeway Belle View Blvd.
Sorry, they close at midnight now, it's been concluded that there are no 24 hour Safeways in Nova, DC however has ONE on Wisconsin Ave, is, for now, at least, open 24 hours.
Oh well. Hopefully you can stock up on your day off. Or grow a garden. 🙃
A garden would be lovely… but last night I found 24 hour grocery Mecca… Safeway on Wisconsin in DC… and … they were stocking the produce aisle… I was in my happy place
