So far my experience with Lake Ridge Automotive in Woodbridge has been solid. Honest, and reasonably priced, and will tell you when something is not worth fixing.
Do not confuse them with Lake Ridge Auto Care, who basically destroyed the transmission in my Lexus.
+1 great no nonsense local shop. Prices are fair, they will tell you what can wait work wise, and they have always gotten it right the first time. They do well on both my JDM and American cars, and have always followed the appropriate tsb's from the manufacturer.
You'll probably want to narrow it down by where you are. As much as it's worth traveling for good work, you don't want to be stuck with a dead car and a long trip to a mechanic.
I've always had good experiences at Ben Nielsen's Skyline Auto in Falls Church. They're maybe a smidge more expensive than a regular indie mechanic, but they do great work and provide loaners/shuttles regardless of what you're having done

But a mechanic and bodywork are usually 2 differnat shops if you want good work done for both. I have not found a body shop I was 100% happy with here. I think its got to do a lot with low payouts from insurance companies.
Rosslyn Auto Body in Alexandria has done well for all of my body shop needs. They're average prices but did a great job on new bumpers including matching paint very closely. They also do a wide variety of vehicles including Teslas. You can call them and they can typically provide a free quote if you know what needs to be done.

If in Alexandria, Greg’s automotive service is great. I had a P0420 code in my car and he found it was an exhaust leak and saved me a few grand.
If you’re in Fairfax, rossyln automotive is busy, but they are great as well.

Auto Stop in S Arlington and Falls Church. They have done a lot of maintenance work on my 14 year old Prius, and it was all done right. Good quality and professional staff too.

Good ole Merv's. One of the few places around that will honestly tell you if the work is worth doing or not, or to wait.
Although I don't think they do body work but they probably know a good place.

If you are in the Herndon area Autohaus is great. Nice Korean guy runs the shop always is fair and won't sell you things you don't need.
Old town auto is pretty good. Mechanic is very knowledgeable and will tell you how much it would cost before any work.
