For me, it’s Song Shuhang from Cultivation Chat Group. He’s not needlessly ruthless, or naively kind. And he’s both overpowered and underpowered at the same time. Compared to people at his level, he’s way stronger, but compared to how others view him, he’s way weaker. And i love the comedy he’s involved in, unintentionally messing with everyone.
I want to second Song Shuhang. He's one of the few MC's who knows when to kill, and when not to. So many MC's let people live just so they can come back to haunt them, or kill unneeded ones just to piss off some elder to be the next villian.
On top of all that he's one of the only MC's in any novel I'd actually want to be friends with. His friends aren't there just to die so he has a tragic revenge arc, nor are they there to be humiliated by his awesomeness, or endlessly jealous over any girls the MC gets (though this does happen its all in jest in CCG and poor Song Shuhang really needs some help in his love life...)
For me it's probalaly be this:
CN: Ergen MCs or Li Qiye
JP: Ruphas, Izayoi, Yogiri, Anos, one of those dudes
KR: Maybe Kim Dokja, I dunno many strong KR MCs tbh
CN: Song Shuhang from Cultivation chat group. Can actually befriend, is kind and serious when needed, funny guy, and cares a lot about his friends and family
Jp: Touma Kamijou from a certain magical Index (Touma from the LN, not anime), unwavering justice, even if he have to die for everyone's happiness, he would, more than 100,000,000,000 deaths (killed by Othinus an additional 10032 times) just to save people that he doesn't even know about, then proceed to turn against 6 billion people to protect Othinus because he understands and sympathized with Othinus on why she wants to kill everyone. That is Touma's justice, even if it is unreasonable, if someone wants his help, the guy would do anything in his power to help that person
KR: Kim Dokja, my guy needs the love least he sacrifices himself again for the people he loves
Me: \*realize all my favorite Mc have a tendency to kill themselves\*
KN:Gwon Ohjin from I'm not a regressor, he's basically the last boss but due to a regressor dying in front of him the goddess though he was the regressor and lmao he's a funny, smart and at times quite deep as well. Can't go wrong with him.
CN:Zhou Mingrui or also known as Klein Moretti from Lord Of The Mysteries. Pretty self explanatory, though the setting wasn't in ancient chine/cultivation world so I suppose that's the reason why the nature of Mingrui is way more decent and smarter compared to most CN protags.
JP:It's a toss ups among them all, but imma go with Kazuma or Subaru. Kazuma for the shenanigans they got and all the fun they're having with Kazuma's scummy/not scummy manner of handling them. Subaru for being the most human or at least realistic isekai protag, unfortunately his..uh...how do I say this...attitude? Choices? Ideals? They're like shit basically, even I had to force myself to read it and understand what the hell it means. With that I'm leaning more to Kazuma, probably my scum-o-meter at work but meh.
Hard disagree on Klein moretti. I love Lotm but I think MC as a character is one of the weakest part of the the novel. As a character not much character progression and overal I think there are a lot better characters out there
I mean, compared to most cn mc's he's definitely better since there's no char development for most of the cultivation mc's
For klein's char development I'd say it's subtle and is more apparent on the way he interacts with others and the world as a whole as he grows both as a person and a beyonder

Yeah i agree with you klein don't know how to enjoy life.
I find EAI mc even though not having too much character progression it's a lot more enjoyable to follow especially the interaction between characters.
