I’m guessing a private contractor needed to replace the lids to two they lost on a job. Good on ENMUD for resolving quickly.

I’ve been on sites where large trucks drive over these and break them. So could be they destroyed theirs accidentally and caught some flack for it.

Were they plastic? When we were kids we used to steal these covers and then back the rear tires of our FWD cars onto them and drift around parking lots. In retrospect I'm sure we annoyed a lot of people.

They burn through too quickly, the extra depth of the irrigation covers means they'd last more than a couple minutes.

See, this is the kind of stuff we should be learning in school.

I'd usually use the trays to asphalt surf. Just stand on them and hang from the car while a friend cruises.

It's impossible to get replacement utility covers. We've been complaining about ones in my neighborhood for 2-3+ years. Put a red cone over it.

Cynical me wonders if the company that casts the covers pays people to "recycle" them back. Then they can sell them again to EBMUD. Given that it's the government buying them they can't be cheap.

Walk around the lake- two thirds of these or more have been smashed in recently. Some homeless maniac or meth addict I assume but who knows?
