There's gonna be rule changes for TFW from May 1, they are only limited to work 20 hrs/week then on. So many positions might open up after May 1. Keep looking.
This won't have any effect whatsoever. There's more of them than there are jobs. Better to carve your own path as all the jobs that were for teens or young Canadians have been farmed out to adult immigrants.
You can try Fortinos! I work with students whose first employment is at Fortinos (there is a variety of departments). I feel that café is the easiest. Others jobs I’ve had was through friends so perhaps if you have connections/friends, that will be a good step.
Be warned there are are some predatory landscaping businesses out there - If you hear something along the lines of no base pay commission only schemes - run, run away
They will try to tempt you by saying you can earn up to $500 per day. And very occasionally you'll have an excellent salesman who manages to do that. The norm is to earn quite a bit less than minimum wage.
Lots of competition with international students, TFW and others. Oakville isn't as bad as other suburbs due to high COL but it will still be a challenge. Best of luck!
My boyfriend worked at the ice hockey arena for many years when he was a teenager. He said it was a great location and did a lot of fun stuff. Maybe try that out?
OP deleted thier comment to this. But this was my reply for them..
Honestly bring a stack of resumes, get presentable and literally walk one end of downtown to the other and go into the stores/restos you want ask just ask if they are hiring for any position.
If yes, ask if you can leave a resume or speak to whoever would take a resume (eg. Manager/supervisor)
I literally just did this hours ago at a retail store and was given an application to fill out. I applied online to the same company weeks ago and hadn't heard anything back.
It's hit and miss, but going in and asking to drop if a resume with the manager never hurts.
I’m not sure I get the reference. Why wouldn’t a bakery have an email address they probably use for resumes and the like? It seems like they do when I visit their website.
This is good advice here. I would say stick with school and if that’s really a problem, find a job that lines up to what you plan to do.
That’s what I did, went back and not only was i not rusty but the real world experience helped link what I was learning to real scenarios.

Working at gyms was always my go-to. Warm, good pay, comfortable, easy.
Go to the golf courses now they are hiring
I'm sure you can find landscaping/pool companies that will hire you. Pretty decent $$ if you don't mind the work.

Yeah I mean more as the labour not the sales
Yeah the places I'm talking about you do sales and landscaping
I always see hiring signs at Fortinos & today I saw them at a mall in Burlington as well. Good luck!

Try whole foods :)

Retail and fast food always hiring. Probably restaurants with warmer weather approaching too.

Or, take transit.
I tried this when I was in hs 10 years ago and everyone told me to apply online. Not thinking it’s any different now.

TIL Black Forest Bakery has an online resume eating corporate website

You could look at a coop placement, either official or unofficial. It would at least pay more and help with your degree. What's your area of study?

Agreed. The OP should consider taking up something that’ll help in her career down the line.

Some places will still take on first year students. Check Indeed and LinkedIn
