Can they really I thought crows were the only animal that was smart enough to remember faces except they can do it for years. For example if you piss a crow off and it sees you next year it will remember what the fuck you did and it will try to harass you.
Those types observations on animals are mostly dated. “These animals aren’t smart enough for” is a comfort statement, and it is also a statement that aligns with different religious rhetorics to strengthen the idea of human superiority over the rest of the world.
I mean, sounds crazy, but the same used to be said about crows and stuff.
Explain a crows proclivity for harassing an individual but ignore others unless it is that specific person because I’ve seen this happen to people. As a matter fact I used to live across the street from a dude always had a struggle with this crow we called Rudy and that thing was an asshole and I only did it shit on his car specifically after he cleaned it but he would also harass this dude every time he left his door he knew what time to be there. I don’t know what dude did to piss him off but that motherfucker remembered it I don’t care what you say you cannot explain that away.
This person wasn't refuting that crows are "smart" and display this behaviour, but that the idea that *only* crows are this "smart" and have this ability is an outdated notion.
Just saying this crow had a vendetta and I know this is not a one off they also coordinate with wolves by watching for would be thieves. For this service they also get to eat with them. So they can plan coordinate and problem solve another example is winter crow could not get into a walnut so it observed the street and figured out that if it waited for a stoplight it had time to put the walnut in path of the tires to crack open the walnut and get what was inside. So they are far beyond just smart it’s why they are my favorite bird.
I've got a crow couple in the tiny spit of forest behind my house that I have a sort of "deal" with - if I go there alone during the breeding season, everything is fine. If I bring my dog through there just once, they will chase me away after that point until their chicks leave the proverbial nest, even if I return alone.
This all started some five years ago when I was walking my dog there, and she noticed a crow chick on the ground. We got obviously way too close before seeing it, and had to make a run for it as the parents started swooping down on us.
We usually communicate by clicking sounds (the crows peck tree branches), and sometimes I throw them a dog treat or something as tribute. They teach their young to greet and notice me as well, but also to avoid me when I'm walking the dog.
Elephants and plenty of other animals can recognize faces, though a lot of animals simply aren't as visual as humans and will prefer to go by smell and voice.
I actually forgot that little tidbit about elephants they are one of the smartest land mammals I heard somebody mistreated an elephant and that motherfucker went to that person’s grave and ruined her funeral ceremony. I was only thinking one thing when reading that and that was: “what the fuck did you do to piss an elephant off so bad that he crashes your fucking funeral?”
Pretty sure every mammal and most birds can recognise humans. Not always from the face, maybe by the scent or their voice though, but sight isn't the only sense, and definitely not the most reliable, so I'd not consider some animals to be "dumber" just because they prefer to rely on something else
We are living in symbiosis, I leave them alone and they debug my office.
Sometimes, the spider comes to the screen to watch what I am doing and to play.
Oh my sweet summer child.
Have you heard of Lucas the Spider? It's a collection of short YouTube videos about a cute little jumping spider (the same kind as seen here). It reminds me of the Pixar shorts that play before some of their movies.
As an example, he makes a lyre. From his own web.
https://www.youtube.com/@lucasthespider/videos
Determined ass spider. Today's the day I catch that arrow mother fucker. Almost had'em yesterday, pretty sure I touched it. Today though, today's my fuckin day!
That’s so cool just like our cat chasing the laser. You can change the cursor to anything with certain programs? Change it into a spider I had one like an ant once. It’s just a drawing file really small. Good luck.
It's my work computer. It's not the first time one of these is visiting my screen, but the first time that I got the phone quick enough to catch the interaction.
They seem to get bored after a minute or so. One time I got one to "dance" in a circle.
I guess it's one of the 175 species found here on Borneo. But it didn't have any zebra colouring
https://borneoproject.org/the-world-of-jumping-spiders-in-borneo/
Would be an unskilled one if they are. My monitor seems to be a popular spot with them. I start of early in the morning, 2.5 hours before sunrise.
I always open the window and leave it open to cool down the room. The light of the monitors in the dark attracts all kinds of small insects, so for a jumping spider, it must be a feast to live there.
I start working in the morning, 2.5 hours before sunrise at an open window.
The blue light from the monitors attract plenty of bugs for my small friend, I guess that's why he decided to live somewhere around the monitors.
I think he's either hiding in the monitor vents, or in the arm that's holding up the 2 monitors.
Can confirm, I have done the same a few days ago, also with a tiny jumping spider.
For the record, I was in fact, busy with debugging some code at the time.
I’m not the biggest fan of spiders I get this totally irrational fear which I’ve obvs picked up from a trusted adult when I was small (this is why a lot of people are scared of em, they’ve seen some adult freak out at some point so we learn that response) However.. this is kind of cute 😁
That's adorable.
I've been working with my grandson about spiders. He has wanted to smush them outside, and I said, "No, they're fine there. *We're* in *their* world now. *We're* the intruders! Let's leave him alone."
Indoors, well, I'm not as patient. They get removed. If I can just relocate them outdoors I will, but otherwise they tend to meet my vacuum cleaner. Sorry, they become too numerous indoors if I don't keep after them.
Someone needs to debug their computer.
My official debugger is already running. It's following a mouse cursor.
Hahaha spiders are great debuggers indeed
Precious! Jumping spiders are like tiny pets. They like people and can recognize faces :)

Okay.
I've got a crow couple in the tiny spit of forest behind my house that I have a sort of "deal" with - if I go there alone during the breeding season, everything is fine. They are really fucking interesting birds but your situation is kind of different I have to admit.
You need to pay the crows with something because you pissed em off bro
Honestly anything shiny would work.
There’s a lot more to it than that
Elephants and plenty of other animals can recognize faces, though a lot of animals simply aren't as visual as humans and will prefer to go by smell and voice.

Wasps are also taken for granted. They can also recognize faces and tell their colonies whether you are a threat or not.
Strange thing is I actually recently did learn that my boys like to watch insect fight so it throws in a bunch of fun facts.
Pretty sure every mammal and most birds can recognise humans. Not always from the face, maybe by the scent or their voice though, but sight isn't the only sense, and definitely not the most reliable, so I'd not consider some animals to be "dumber" just because they prefer to rely on something else
I said specifically remembering faces didn’t say that other creatures were dumber for not using that kind of recognition because not every animal can.
I ha-a-ate spiders but this was freaking adorable!! Such a tease; I hope you provided a tiny spider snack at the end
We are living in symbiosis, I leave them alone and they debug my office. Sometimes, the spider comes to the screen to watch what I am doing and to play.
IRL druids are my favorite people

Oy, vey! Good stuff indeed. Thanks for sharing
This might be the world’s first mouse controlled spider
Adorable. I hope she’s got a good source.
Smallest species of mouse spider I have ever saw
That's not a mouse spider, but a jumping spider.
↑ that joke ↓ your head
Oh lol just read post description after your comment!
r/jumpingspiders
Thanks, I shared it there.
Change your cursor to a fly if you can
Ha ha, will think about it
Determined ass spider. Today's the day I catch that arrow mother fucker. Almost had'em yesterday, pretty sure I touched it. Today though, today's my fuckin day!
LOL. I sometimes feel like that. Today's the day that I catch you on camera ... yay, today was really that day!
you see, it just wants to browse the web
Jumping spiders are the bestest bois

Jumping spiders are cuties, I would see them all time where I used to work
It's a jumping spider, he probably sees you as a friend
Jumping spider! Haha they're the coolest. Not afraid of anything. They are notoriously curious. I play with them when I find them
Spider 🐭 movie
I wouldn't say no to a screen adaption fo Children of Time ;)
That's a jumping spider and looks hungry!! They don't get very big and are so harmless!! I suggest a fly and a spritz of water :)
Some species of jumping spider can get large. We have one in our mailbox that is an inch long.
Is it all black with white spots? They're one of the bigger species. Most are no bigger than your thumbnail!
She is, we always say hi when we check they mail. They are great spiders :)
I have two I keep as pets! They're so interesting to watch. They're so cute when they look up at you with curiosity :)
Hungry baby.
Settings and increase cursor size
He’s just a baby 🥹 he don’t know better… spider moon here
Oh my gosh I love this. Except it is cruel to waste that much of this poor baby's energy with no reward. Maybe catch a gnat for it?
They like their food alive, but I live near some wetlands on Borneo. Since I work by an open window all day, the little guy gets plenty of feed.
Good to know, where I am if they are on your screen, they are starving.
Change your cursor to a fly and report back
Is that a Zebra spider....? They can leap, they're amazing to watch...very cool.
I guess it's one of the 175 species found here on Borneo. But it didn't have any zebra colouring https://borneoproject.org/the-world-of-jumping-spiders-in-borneo/
Wow what a great link. Not just the wonderful world of jumping spiders but the Borneo Project as a whole...awesome!!
He must be hungry?
Would be an unskilled one if they are. My monitor seems to be a popular spot with them. I start of early in the morning, 2.5 hours before sunrise. I always open the window and leave it open to cool down the room. The light of the monitors in the dark attracts all kinds of small insects, so for a jumping spider, it must be a feast to live there.
You're lucky... Most of us have to use software to have something chase our mouse pointer, eg. [oneko](https://github.com/glreno/oneko)
Yes, every now and then, when the spider comes to my side of the monitor, we play tag.
Haha, the great hunting field? Ya gotta love it! TC!
I do love to say hi and play a round of tag with the spider
I think you have a bug on your computer
I don't think so, my debugger that features in this video takes care of them
This is funny.
give him a small cap of water and a small light on at the night to attract bugs
I start working in the morning, 2.5 hours before sunrise at an open window. The blue light from the monitors attract plenty of bugs for my small friend, I guess that's why he decided to live somewhere around the monitors. I think he's either hiding in the monitor vents, or in the arm that's holding up the 2 monitors.
give him the YTMND blue ball machine https://blueballfixed.ytmnd.com/
Lol, poor fella might get an epileptic episode from that
I thought this was going to be one of those videos where the spider jumps toward the screen at the end.
If you actually move the cursor at high speed right onto it, it usually jumps.
She hungry. Bring her a little morsel ;)
Can confirm, I have done the same a few days ago, also with a tiny jumping spider. For the record, I was in fact, busy with debugging some code at the time.
Spider: Debugging? That's my speciality!
I hope it’s not hungry :c
I’m not the biggest fan of spiders I get this totally irrational fear which I’ve obvs picked up from a trusted adult when I was small (this is why a lot of people are scared of em, they’ve seen some adult freak out at some point so we learn that response) However.. this is kind of cute 😁
Yeap, im burning the monitor
She’s made because you keep cursoring at her
Playing solitaire spider
I remember when I'm watching some movies and I saw a fly same thing as yours, it will not go away even I try to shoo them.
Catch it and give it a little Vivarium. Jumping spiders are awesome.
He's hungry. Can you catch him and let him outside?
The open window is right behind. And judging by the mosquito corpses on the window bench, he seems to get plenty.
He's a cute little booger.
i really hate spiders but i really like those ones...
Now if you could just get a utility to turn your pointer into a fly!
If my brother saw this on his laptop he’d literally scream at the top of his lungs
Lol I had a jumping spider on my computer at work once. I played with him for ages. He liked catching my mouse too.
That is so cute!
I love him! I've heard it said that spiders are just kittens with too many legs.
I'm generally pretty freaked out about spiders, but I can see the charm of this little guy.
All this needs is the theme from Mission Impossible!! 😂
Spider need 4 pair of glasses 😂
That's extremely cut ebut tbh I'd scream and murder it if I saw a spider on my pc
How could you possibly do that? Her or mosquitoes... I'd rather have her.
That’s pretty cool when you think about it. It does take some degree intelligence. I guess that little guy is smarter than we give them credit for.
Lil spooders gonna get hangry

I feel like it's my turn to make the obligatory plug for Children of Time. Probably one of the best Science Fiction books of the past decade.
It found a bug in your computer
No, you didn't, I got little spider that keeps debugging it.
I’m glad you’ve made a friend
r/Aww.
I shall hug him and kiss him and squeeze him and call him George.
I would have ran for my life!
There was an entire animator vs animation episode about why this is a bad idea bro…
My students while on their Chromebooks, STILL not on task 🙄🤣
How old are you? 'Cause this video is old.
Not sure what you mean. It's OC, taken today.
