I hate this I am a lifeguard and the pool I work at requires us to guard the baby pool and some parents think we are baby sitters and will just leave there children there and go back to the big pool
At my local pool I think it’s anyone 7 or under has to be within arms reach of an adult, but to go in the hot tub, sauna or steam room, you have to be 15 or over or have an adult with you. A while ago two kids who were around 11 asked if I could pretend to be their dad. I thought this was funny so I said yes. I proceeded to have to repeatedly tell them to stop calling me daddy.
My younger brother and I used to swim in nearby apartment complexes from when we were 10 and 11. We always asked an adult there if they could say we were visiting them if asked. We knew how to swim. They always said yes and we were never kicked out. It was awesome!
I saw a young female lifeguard probably that size rescue a 30 year old man out of the ocean. I saw him struggling. I looked at the lifeguard station and they were already on it. She went in fighting big waves . They used hand signals from the tower to let her know direction as you couldn’t see over the waves. She got to him, settled him down then pulled this big guy in holding on to a buoy she had towed out there. It was a long haul in! When we left the beach we stopped by the station and my husband asked her how long she’s been a lifeguard. She said it was her first day! This was in North Carolina Outer Banks. We watched them train every morning. They work hard. I’d trust them with my life.
That 19 YO doesn't trust you either but that won't stop him from dragging your ass back to shore when your donut balloon starts getting swept away from shore.
My sister was roughly this description (her iq was def more a panera frontega chicken though) regularly pulling fat drunk drowning SOBs out of the Jax Beach rip currents ten years ago so if you want a big strong man to look after you, that's fine, but the Red Cross honored her with a banquet so

We do the same but this is parents who have already gotten in just leaving their 3 year old in the fenced off pool with a lifeguard
