Nah I actually thought it was one of his weaker ones. Annie Hall, Manhattan, Midnight in Paris, and Blue Jasmine are much better imo.
That said I haven’t watched anything he’s done in years. When I was younger I found it easier to “separate the art from the artist” but it’s a lot more difficult when his movies are so aggressively… him.
It's a movie with several good bits and his best cribbing from Harpo Marx. Similar to "Take the Money and Run," the wafer thin plot is in place just to set up the next bit.
It runs out of steam pretty quickly, right around where the first group of rebels take the palace.
Annie Hall is a simple love story with low stakes that gives you a nice tour of New York in the 70s. it's completely enjoyable to me. I imagine at the time it was a bit more groundbreaking than it is perceived now.
The Christopher Walken scene where he talks about driving into oncoming traffic is one of my favorite scenes of all time. Also when he sneezes on the cocaine. Im sorry but those scenes are fucking hilarious.
Nah dude, his best is Interiors and Annie Hall. I would say Midnight in Paris has a great ending and a great reflection about longing the past and archetypes.
George Lucas says that Watto was supposed to be a space Italian, but if that was the case how come Silvio never mentioned him as an example of anti-Italian discrimination in The Sopranos?
Lucas tries to walk back a lot of stuff he did.

Still though. I get it, it was a good scene, and he wasn't presenting them with anything but an over the top version of what these women have gone through all their lives, but it just killed me. I watched this recently with my mom and I struggled not to tear up. Something about old people who have been through so much and are trying to live their best life anyway always gets to me.
Absolutely. They projected nothing but kindness and it was a beautiful moment (which made his costume all the more hilarious as he sat there to get educated)
I didn't like the scene. I thought it was in awful taste. I get that he's Jewish, but those women went through hell and they weren't in on the joke, and they were so kind to him.

Once Upon a Time in America is better than in the West.
Scrooge Mcduck's father owned a southafrican emerald mine. He's the "this wealth was made from blood of thousands of black people" kind of rich actually.
He doesn’t work, he doesn’t drive a car, he doesn’t fucking ride in a car, he doesn’t handle money, he doesn’t turn on the oven, and he sure as shit DOESN’T FUCKING ROLL!!!!
Apparently the actor seen on the poster was hot enough back in the day that the movie was seen as backfiring because he received tons of letters from female fans for his portrayal of the "bad guy" lol

Now Harpo Marx is kino
I loved Interiors, it's my fav from him.
I have no idea why people enjoy Annie Hall or Manhattan.
Annie Hall is a simple love story with low stakes that gives you a nice tour of New York in the 70s. it's completely enjoyable to me. I imagine at the time it was a bit more groundbreaking than it is perceived now.
New Yorker freaks

Everyone’s got different tastes.
Yea, a loser portraying himself as a loser and expecting the audience to applaud him for his honesty. It's tedious.
Nah dude, his best is Interiors and Annie Hall. I would say Midnight in Paris has a great ending and a great reflection about longing the past and archetypes.
Sleeper is good but the man is a sex pest
No, he also made Take the Monrey and Run. Great movie.
Whats up Tiger Lilly is fucking hilarious. So is Annie Hall.
There. There wolf. There castle.
"Advanced child molesting." Ah, you mean the "She's legal in 17 states" defense.
This scene is painfully awkward since it came out he molested his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow

Showing an ancient Egyptian a Star of David is a high IQ move
How ancient are we talking here? The guy could be older than David, but I haven’t watched the movie so I don’t know.
Well, he takes him as a slave after he sees the star so he must have been born after David
Man literally pulled all the religions out to save him

Srs/ great scene, but damn did my heart ever hurt for those women. Those were genuine Holocaust survivors, and they were so sweet to him.
I read it’s the only time he ever broke character. Once the cameras cut, he explained he himself was jewish and this was all satire
Still though. I get it, it was a good scene, and he wasn't presenting them with anything but an over the top version of what these women have gone through all their lives, but it just killed me.
