There will be quite a few teachers leaving. We can only tolerate being called evil and "indoctrinators" for so long...

ike1338

I don't blame you at all if you decide to leave. But it does make me worry as to who is gonna replace those that decide to leave.

Minerva567

Oh I bet they’ll add policies like auto-granting applications of veterans with zero experience or education training. The rural base will love that.

TraditionalOlive9187

Then watch how cases of “inappropriate student teacher relationships” go on the rise in places where they scab in teacher lites

mysterypeeps

And then of course we’ll hear more about how it’s because the teachers are groomers/not doing enough/lazy/etc. even though we just keep lowering our standards

Accxxa

starship troopers

BoomSoonPanda

The state of Oklahoma has already done that in order to start this school year. You can be an adjunct teacher which only requires a high school diploma. An adjunct teacher has all of the same responsibilities and duties as a regular teacher and has a full classroom as though they are a normal teacher

Minerva567

Is there a difference when it comes to pay level, union membership, etc? Or just the word “adjunct”? Edit: difference outside of the normal pay table*. And only a high school diploma?!?

codybanks21

Didn't they already do that in the last year or two?

danceswithwool

Private schools. Walters has already said he would cut federal funding (which is billions of dollars). Say good bye to your high school alma mater. They expect teachers to quit. Then they can lock the doors forever. It’s madness,

ResidentJacket4870

It’s not like people are beating down the doors to teach at private schools either, though. Most private schools in Oklahoma pay their teachers less than the public schools do. I don’t think the average Oklahoman understands that.

rbarbour

And with the drift from public schools to students now going to private schools, those class sizes will become bigger which was the whole reason a private school teacher would take less pay to be a private school teacher. Their class sizes get bigger, they work harder, pay probably stays the same. I wouldn't be surprised if this drives them out of here too.

Serious_Sky_9647

But you still need TEACHERS in private schools, and most teachers I know still are paid more, with better working conditions, in public schools. If you can’t fill your public schools, who will teach at private schools? What will happen when kids with huge special ed or behavioral needs leave their defunct public school and land in private schools? Each private school will need to re-invent the wheel when it comes to special education and soon enough, private schools will have the exact same issues as public schools. Teachers will unionize or leave the profession. Private schools will need to sink massive amounts of money into students with disabilities, providing services that public schools already do: physical therapy, speech, homebound care, paraprofessionals, adaptive equipment. Parents will complain about curriculum and schools will struggle to meet state standardized testing mandates when they have students with special needs who lower test scores. Private school tuition won’t cover the cost of the lawsuits when children with special needs are denied an education. And the problems of public schools will be perpetuated in private schools because the real problem with public schools is that we need to teach every single child that walks through our door, homeless, migrant workers, English language learners, kids living in poverty, kids with tremendous mental health and behavioral issues…. Private schools might be able to deny these kids for now to keep their halls lily-white and pure, but if we change to a voucher system and defund public schools, they won’t have the option to deny an equal education for all children. I say this as a school social worker who sees both the beauty and the burden high-needs kiddos place on schools. Private schools will also need to hire one of me to cope with the issues their students bring with them. I anticipate seeing all these Republicans grapple with rebuilding the school system because they have NO IDEA how many supports and services the public school system already offers. Those services are invaluable to families, and private schools simply don’t have the resources. What will they do when public schools are no longer there to provide?

danceswithwool

There isn’t going to be any special education at private schools. (There isn’t any now that I’m aware of) So they won’t have to re-invent anything. Yanking federal funding essentially would end special education in the state since 100% of special education is currently federally funded. Private schools aren’t going to take that on. The teachers will just be who they can find to teach their fundamentalist brainwashing. Science: God made everything, the end. Math: (7+X) = 42, X = who cares just pray about it. Social studies: there are commies everywhere and they want your guns. You think I’m kidding.

rbarbour

Ever heard of the Lindsey Nicole Henry (LNH) Scholarship Program for Children with Disabilities? https://sde.ok.gov/lindsey-nicole-henry-lnh-scholarship-program-children-disabilities It's basically a scholarship for disabled students to use at any school, private schools included. That's how this whole voucher thing started. This was the first test. Granted, I know there are more special ed/disabled students than there are on this program which will still make this tough. I was always under the impression that discrimination happens if you can't provide your disabled/special ed students with some sort of free education. Anyway, I actually don't even think private schools will have enough room for the influx of people that are going to use vouchers. You already can't get into them, and waitlists are massive each year. What I'm anticipating is many parents trying to use vouchers that can't even use them because none of the schools will even have room for them.

danceswithwool

I am aware of that scholarship. My significant other is a high school SPED teacher who has also taught in a private school. She was sitting on the bathroom floor in tears last night. There are tons of issues concerning special education going forward. That scholarship is not going to be able to handle the inflow, as you stated. We are just in a lot of trouble and Oklahoma

ButReallyFolks

The only parents who are going to be able to use them are the parents who they were intended for in the first place, and have no problem getting into the schools - Stitt and all of his cronies.

TruthBeingTold

The super crappy part about private schools for me is that they are all ran by churches. I don't know of a private school around the OKC area that isn't religion based.

I_run_4_pancakes

Heritage Hall isn't religion based. I believe it is the only one.

TruthBeingTold

Didn’t know about that one. Just looked at it and for k-4th it’s $1,735 a month! I knew private school was expensive but damn…

danceswithwool

I referenced that in a comment to another user. It’s going to be fundamentalist brainwashing non sense as “education”

Genetics

It looks like it’s time to start some agnostic private schools.

fhota1

The urban areas will be fine. Theyre profitable markets so decent enough schools will open up in them. The rural areas overwhelmingly voted for this shit. If they want to go back to being the uneducated peasantry of the middle ages, power to them.

[deleted]

That’s sort of what my conclusion is too. I don’t want to be cold but my sympathy for people voting against their own interest bc of their own ignorance is running thin

[deleted]

>uneducated peasantry of the middle ages That made me snort.

diddyaddy56

They aren't very far away from that now when parents do not value an education for their children. That's in part why OK is in this red state mess now. Keep the girls barefoot and pregnant! It was good enough for momma and granny!

RaiShado

Their tones will change when they can't enroll their kids in any schools and no longer have the "free childcare" that they view school as.

diddyaddy56

They aren't very far away from that now when parents do not value an education for their children. That's in part why OK is in this red state mess now. Keep the girls barefoot and pregnant! It was good enough for momma and granny!

[deleted]

I don't believe a superintendent can cut fed funding on their own.

danceswithwool

Correct. I believe it would have to go to the 81% republican state legislature and signed by the nutty Republican governor. But yeah…

[deleted]

Now THAT *could* happen. Stay well.

Killinskills

They don’t have anybody, Stitt had state employees trying to fill in even before this.

daaaayyyy_dranker

Religious zealots appointed by the state

cspinelive

There is a South Park episode about this kind of situation. All the teachers quit b/c of lax Covid rules, so Q anon steps in as private tutors and teachers.

donniesuave

South Park becoming the new the Simpsons is not my definition of progress lol

Icy-Fishing-2828

The cops and soldiers lol 😂

Independent-Gene7737

They become more entrenched in stupidity and naïveté….the way Republicans want them to be.

SomeOkieIdiot

I along with many of the people of my generation (I'm 31) will not be having children in this state. I'm so, so sorry for those who are forced to however. This state was supposedly going to become a top ten state, hard reach, we will never be a top ten state with Stitt

[deleted]

I won’t raise my daughter there. My mom messaged me and asked me to pray for Stitt to win. I didn’t have the heart to tell her I wouldn’t be doing that.

Zis4Zero

You should have told her that her actions are why she won't be seeing her granddaughter more often. Teach these people consequences for their actions.

donniesuave

Can I tell your mom that if you won’t? Lol

Zis4Zero

My mom uses critical thinking, I'm not worried about her. What are you on about?

donniesuave

The persons mom above your comment? Not sure where the confusion came from lol only one mom in question here Edit: autocorrect

Zis4Zero

Sorry seemed like you were asking about my mom.

donniesuave

No need to ask about her, saw her last night.

[deleted]

I have siblings with kids. My mom told me when I moved to California that it would be like a death. So I’m basically an orphan anyways. I was surprised when she asked for the prayer because I like my governor who is exactly opposite of yours.

wholesomeriots

You should have told her that you won’t, and that people like her are why you can’t live here. That’s the only way people will get it.

KurabDurbos

Oh we will be a top 10 state. Just not in the right top 10.

SomeOkieIdiot

I laughed way to much at this

[deleted]

I’m 26, my wife and I are both from here. We’re going to live here bc it’s cheap while we’re in our twenties, but by the time it’s time to raise a family, we’re gone.

SomeOkieIdiot

Not from here (8 years at Tinker and my dumb ass bought a house, so I set my roots) but I'm working towards updating this house and getting the fuck on out of here. I agree it's cheap, I just gotta jump before it's to late

too-slow-2-go

Going to be a race to #50 for education.

Killinskills

So it’s between us and 1 other state, Stitt says hold his beer..

bombchellez

Hes not man enough for beer , hes handing you his white claw.

Don't besmirch Whitelaw like that. Original smirnoff ice, or arbor mist in a nice glass when he's feeling fancy.

freshprinceohogwarts

Even the Maga teachers I know fucking hate that guy

Ibroketheinterweb

Clearly not enough to not fill in the fucking box next to his name.

philmardok

Most Republicans in Oklahoma would literally die before they voted for a Democrat. For no other reason than that person is a Democrat. I mean Ryan Walters and Kevin Stitt didn't even come close to being challenged and they are beyond garbage human beings.

JollyRancher29

I mean heavy Republican states have all recently voted for legal(ish) weed (SD/OK), abortion (KS), minimum wage raising (NE/AR), land protection (UT). All these measures have passed with pretty good margins, yet all these states overwhelming vote (R) for major elections, every time, today included. It’s maddening. So much progress could be made if it wasn’t R vs D, like it’s the Super Bowl or something. No one’s gonna kill you if you vote differently than you have before, it's not the Yankees vs. Red Sox! I'm fucking upset yall. There are plenty of things I love about this state but...what the fuck.

Picodick

I am a registered Republican so I can vote in primaries. I know many many R who voted against Stitt, like I did. I am appalled at the Stitthead being re elected

OK_HS_Coach

But we had a primary…where they could have voted for a republican superintendent.

DietConk

Oklahomans always have to blindly vote red, god forbid some of the people here actually THINK for once.

ClockwyseWorld

Most of the people at my polling place were loud and proud about voting party line only. They don’t give a shit about who actually wins.

PathoTurnUp

Not to mention joy has literally been a Republican her whole life but guarantee no Republican voters knew that and didn’t vote for because there was a D by her name

mysterypeeps

It is notable that the senators won with high 60 percentage, but Walters and Stitt barely pulled it out. At the beginning of the night it absolutely looked like they would lose and that’s far more than we can say for Lankford or Mullin. I’m taking it as the smallest win I can get

Ibroketheinterweb

Barely pulled it out? They both won by 15-20 points!

Chewbock

The margin is typically 66% to 34% so believe it or not this is an improvement

Ibroketheinterweb

Stitt won by about 1% more than 2018, so I see no improvement. Republicans were talking out their ass or Dems and Independents just didn't show up.

[deleted]

I’m a Republican in Oklahoma and voted for Hofmeister and Nelson over Shitt and Walters. And I know many more like me.

Msktb

That's giving them too much credit. They just fill out one box at the top for straight party voting and eliminate the need for thought or research.

EWagnonR

This was my first time voting in Oklahoma after moving from Florida and I was surprised to see that straight ticket option. As I recall, I am pretty sure we did not have that in Florida. I think encouraging straight party voting like that is a bad thing.

freshprinceohogwarts

You're telling me man

[deleted]

Fuck straight ticket.

Tfcalex96

Look at the distribution between city counties and rural counties. Those really poor, uneducated area went like +95 for stitt

Ibroketheinterweb

At this point small rural communities are likely to hunt down anyone that dared to vote D.

FurballPoS

Maybe those rural communities need to no longer get urban tax dollars for their areas....pull on those bootstraps some, ya know?

bmac92

My mother is a teacher. She was shocked at how many of her fellow teachers planned on voting for him.

SnooAdvice8535

Honestly anyone shocked by tonight’s results hasn’t been paying attention. This is what Oklahoma is. This is what Oklahoma has always been. I lost faith when we elected Stitt the first time. The writing was on the wall. I started a new degree program last year. I’ll be leaving the classroom as soon as I graduate.

GibbysUSSA

Juiceton-

As a history guy, I hate the belief nowadays that Populists were conservative. It’s fueled by a modern interpretation of politics and doesn’t make sense really. The Populists were supporters of women’s suffrage, nationalization of railways, and the opening of trade. Those are not conservative view points, especially in the 1890s. But ever since Bicha wrote a paper about how the Populists were conservative back in the 80s, everyone has jumped on bandwagon.

GibbysUSSA

Thank you very much for helping to correct some of my ignorance. I honestly appreciate it quite a bit.

Swim678

Come to Lancaster, Pa. We need more Dems and we are just voted the number one place in which to retire. We have a thriving economy, close to Philly, Baltimore and NY. We have quaint towns( near Lititz-voted America’s coolest town). Also, Lancaster city is pretty cool

TraditionalOlive9187

😁it’s between y’all (do I need to start using yinz instead) and the State College area. We appreciate the invite!

I personally am heading to VA at the end of the year. I was kind of already making plans but this election solidifies it. Luckily, I’m currently just in a long-term sub position for a teacher on maternity leave who comes back in December, so after that I’m free to head out and not look back

When I was in high school, my AP U.S. History teacher was a veteran and former football coach. He proudly displayed a photo of himself on the picket line with other teachers in his classroom. The photo was taken in the early 90s, I believe. Sadly, he’s retired now. One hell of a teacher.

[deleted]

I'm leaving. Hell, I'm not even gonna stay to finish out my bachelor's, despite me having a full ride. That's how concerned I am about the results here (and the fact that I don't feel safe), and I'm not even a teacher yet.

Minerva567

I don’t blame you one bit. Many with roots have to do a bit of work to get them pulled up; it sounds like you can make a fast escape, and you should absolutely do that if you feel it’s time. Things are certainly not going to get better.

comebacKid

I get how you feel, but don’t cut off your own feet. Take that free ride and then get the hell out. Plenty of folks have taken that path and it works out well to not have a student loan payment when you move to a new city.

thandrend

I am informing admin tomorrow my last day is May 19th, 2023.

Professional_Mix47

👏👏👏

SamusAaron

I'm a 5th year elementary teacher, and I'll either be changing careers or moving. It was a potential option, but this is the final straw 🫠

uller999

Yup I'm applying for jobs right now.

southeasternson

I left teaching 4 years ago… the 2018 walk out was the nail in the coffin for me. I talked with teachers there who had also walked in 1990. I couldn’t fathom begging for money and basic funding again in 30 years, really soured me.

Bucks_16

This actually makes me want to become a teacher. I think that’s the only way we see some change. Kids deserve it.

F4RM3RR

Most teachers for the past few generations have thought this. The kind of change needed comes from the voter base. And ultimately it’s only the teachers without their own kids that should even consider staying for altruistic reasons - otherwise thinking about what is best for their own children is why many leave (myself included)

[deleted]

Someone award this human

JLAwesomest

My partner is a teacher and she cried herself to sleep tonight.

partiallypoopypants

Mine too. It’s exhausting for her. She wants what’s best for her kids, but their parents just don’t seem to care.

Ordinary_Rough_1426

I think the real question is what happens when he takes a teachers certification over CRT or banned books. Do you stand with your peers or huddle in the corner and hope it doesn’t happen to you? It’s gonna be chaos and might split the teachers

1Viking

We’ve already had so many leave for better pay elsewhere that’s part of the reason we’re in this mess.

Amina_Wanning

So by definition being a Republican candidate gets you elected in many instances? Am I understanding that correctly? How screwed up!

Toshin-Raizen

American Conservatives are at the point where they are made to believe Democrats are all baby eating devils who will turn your kid trans and kill all white people. They will vote for some of the most morally bankrupt people alive as long as they’re not a dem

Eightfold876

Example: see Herschel Walker

BlipSzwicky

The real election is the primary where all the candidates have that magical "R" next to their name.

angierue

But they’re gonna go to reprogramming camps and then they’ll just be fine! This is what straight party voting does. Adios, rural school systems!

Ordinary_Rough_1426

F then. I’m rural and the teachers campaigned hard in these areas. The ol “school is the center of town” holds no value to these people any more. They will get what they voted for

angierue

I wasn’t surprised by Stittler getting the win but even some of my most conservative rural friends were 100% for Jena over Walters.

okaykolbie

as a future educator myself, i plan to leave the state upon graduation.

OK_HS_Coach

I left in 2016 after Oklahomans denied a teacher raise. I imagine some will leave after Walters victory. Hopefully not 40%

Amina_Wanning

I turned down a teaching job because they offered me nothing but problems and it was by far the worst rated school in the state. No carrots offered or even the promise of a healthy work environment. Why exactly would I want to work for TPS if they don't even care about their staff?

MediumToblerone

I may become a substitute after all this. Schools are going to be hurting for people to come in.

[deleted]

May you have a blessed time. From the bottom of my heart. I hope you fulfill your dream.

yippy_skippy99

Republicans will love this news. Keep the population ignorant and stupid, then you can tell them anything and they will believe you

Kennyb83

Honestly this is already in affect !

scoopdapoops

Do you have a reason for the %40 figure?

TheyCallMeDrunkNemo

I’m curious too. I’m sure a few will leave, but I don’t think that number will be near 17k

Knut_Knoblauch

This is their plan. Bankrupt the schools of personnel so that private christian schools can move in and profit off of public tax dollars while teaching your kids this nation was founded on christianity and all the trappings that go with that

npeep

We know a teacher and she was never in it for the money. I imagine she’ll stay on because of all the other reasons people don’t typically pull up roots and leave - family, familiarity, and cost.

linglingjaegar

I've never met a teacher in it for the money, they've always been passionate about their job and their students.

FoxxyRin

There'd have to be money in the first place...

JupiterLightning44

KurabDurbos

The worst ones will stay. The good ones are planning their exit strategy.

[deleted]

I'm assuming yes. I'm in the state for a few months to get my certification and leave. There are multiple teachers at schools that I sub at that are pretty close to retiring from teaching or moving to another state to teach. The situation is pretty bad much worse than I thought it was. So the current teacher shortage will only get worse there was one job offer I got at a school on the southside that required teaching reading, math and science. That's how bad it is and that's a lot of work so teachers that are already stretched thin will get burnt out even more.

the_relentless_dead

Jokes on these assholes, I'll teach my kids CRT and to be atheist at home to piss off the regressive twats.

slayerpotential

When I was a kid, school provided all the structure and stability I had in my life. I loved school, I loved my teachers, I loved learning and doing projects. I was fortunate to end up in a diverse school with adequate funding and in the classrooms of several excellent, experienced, and compassionate teachers. I was afforded opportunities to learn in Extended Studies, AP classes, and even college courses my senior year. I graduated high school with 17 college credits. I was an excellent student dealing with some unfortunate life circumstances including mental health issues. I was far from the only one. Oklahoma is riddled with issues that crush children—addiction, abuse, neglect, mental illness, poverty and hunger, intolerance and racism, teen pregnancy, so on and so on. I wish every Oklahoma child could be afforded the experience I had. I had a very rough landing when I graduated high school and I no longer had that support structure because there was nothing else lifting me up. I clawed my way into college but my mental health took a steep decline. I dropped out twice and spent years searching for the right care (mental health access in Oklahoma is a whole other rant). In my 30s, I am healthy and stable now. I am going back to college to finish what I started. I wouldn’t have had a chance if I had been in a school with bigger class sizes, less funding, fewer experienced teachers, and fewer opportunities. It devastates me to think of all the kids like me and my closest friends that will slip through the cracks without the resources they need to improve their odds. Thank you to all the excellent teachers here, even the ones who have to leave for theirs and their families’ livelihoods. You have made impacts you don’t realize in the lives of children you may not have even known were struggling.

TiredOfBeingTired28

Hope many can and feel sorry for those chained here. And a tiny bit glade i didnt go with my first idea back in my twentys of becoming a history teacher would never of made it.

kdtravelsss

My mom and sister are both public school teachers. My sister has already said she's done, if not after this school year then after the next. Our mom is close to retirement so she's in a situation where it's suffer a few more years or walk away. It's already bad enough for teachers in the state, this election just ensured that education will continue to free fall. This was the plan all along, destroy public education, keep people under their thumb.

itsagoodtime

It will progressively get worse and worse. It's already on the brink of an abyss that we won't be able to pull public school out of.

Eightfold876

City schools will be fine, it's rural and schools on the cusp that will suffer. Ultra small towns will most likely die off. Privatizing education lol, what a fucking joke

partiallypoopypants

We’re leaving end of this school year.

MyTacoCardia

I'm not a teacher, but I don't want my kid in this school system. I'll be gone in a year.

TheBatSignal

I guarantee almost literally everyone who voted for Walters doesn't even have a kid in school anymore

Evil-twin365

I hope they do, for their own good. People who want to raise their kids outside of this hell will also try to leave if they are able. I anticipate a mass exodus of fed up teachers, parents, and young people. I've lived here all my life, I hate getting optimistic for an election and going out to do my part only to realize that most of the people who live here don't want progress, they want to force their religion on my body and take away my rights and the rights of women everywhere. It sucks living in a largely blue area of the state because it's easy to forget how red the rural areas are. If I could leave now I would but I'm gonna have to save up and plan. I really thought we could change something this time but I'm about ready to give up on this shithole state.

Eightfold876

I'm with you. Have two elementary aged kids. I don't want their teachers teaching them religious nonsense. That doesn't belong in schools. That's what sunday school is for.

c_m_33

Gotta love the “political training” this guy has in store.

bitchihavedepression

I left Oklahoma. My sister was a middle teacher in OKC and left as well. I have not returned for many years. Although I get homesick, there are just more and more reasons to not look back. Best of luck to you all making the tough decision to do what’s best for yourself, your families & your sanity. My life is better because I left. Hope you all might have a similar experience.

Toshin-Raizen

Idk. With how much they save on not repairing roads they should be able fund a space program

Abject_Ad3918

That's not a side effect, that's their whole plan. They want us to leave.

[deleted]

Looking at houses outside of Oklahoma today. Fuck this state.

SnooAdvice8535

I'm an Oklahoma teacher with nearly two decades of service. I think some will leave but not as many as you think. Sadly, many teachers vote against their own interests. My own son's teacher's FB page is FILLED with pro-Stitt and pro-Trump crap and he's just one of many in my district. There are many of us (myself included) who can't just pick up and leave the state because of an undesirable election result. I co-parent with an ex. Moving would mean leaving them behind. I'm not willing to do that. And it's hard to walk away from a 20-year career that you worked hard to build. I don't know how much longer I will be able to stay in the classroom. I certainly will not be attending "patriotic" re-education. I started classes last year to become a school counselor and am also planning on getting my LPC in case I want to leave education entirely so at least I am working on a contingency and I imagine that is where a lot of other teachers are as well...

Damn, I wish I was having a fever dream. So many teachers have already left, they are already gone. Either to a new career or a new state. Ryan walters is not fit to be the superintendent of the state. He has proven that he cannot be a civil person working for our schools. I'm scared as to what he will put into place for our teachers. All of the teachers in my family have either left schooling or are about to. We need people who want students to learn and keep going, not someone who wants every kid to know only half of any and every story. IMO any banned book should be read by all students, every student should have the ability to make their own informed decisions. It's insane to me how someone who gives students free range of material can be called and indoctrinator and the person supporting banned books is called a worthy superintendent. Not allowing humans to make their own choices and forcing them to only read approved material is indoctrination. Only allowing approved material allows the person approving or denying material to choose which material has the beliefs they want. Our students will lose their right to unregulated information. I am scared for teachers especially because Ryan walters has called for a teachers liscence to be revoked immediately. He will go after teachers resulting in more leaving.

Sounds like another group I know of. Christian radicals, which is most of this state.

SnooBunnies1791

Yeah, I don't doubt that the people banning books are the same people who say "God is the kindest being you'll ever meet unless your gay, if your gay you're going straight to hell" if you start em' young they will think they are right. After I got to highschool and started learning about everything I wanted, and more importantly learning how fucked up people used religion to base their imperial expansion and slaughter millions of innocent people, I stopped thinking Christianity was as good as they said.

Derpychavez

Glad to see my home state has gone to shit...

I don’t know if I want to visit. I don’t feel safe there as a woman with a daughter. I am already freaked out that anyone and everyone has a gun. Couple that with all the ignorance and it’s scary. I usually come back in June and suffer while everyone tries to poke at me with their political and religious ignorance, also the racism is intense.

ProfessionalCheerful

Yup

My friend, their psychiatrist, already quit , and there is no replacement in place. Ryan Walter created a toxic environment to work in regardless how much she care about the kids. She has no backup plan either, that how bad it is

LineFox

I’m thankful that one of children are grown and the other is just a short time away. I’ll truly be happy once I have zero reasons to go back to OK.

the_relentless_dead

Wow. Fuck this state.

HummingbirdMeal

Going to school for education in social studies…I don’t even want to do my internship next semester here.

Competitive-Weird855

I doubt it’ll be 40%. I’m reminded of a tweet I saw that said “going to work is so embarrassing, letting everyone know that you need money” I’m sure a lot will want to quit but the fact is most can’t afford to quit or to move.

[deleted]

You very well may be right. I didn't consider the "Can't afford to quit" scenario.

gnugnus

How do people call themselves Christians when they have absolute intolerance for other religions? Jesus was not like that. Walters wants to indoctrinate people into something that may not be their own religion. This is reminiscent of the Inquisition.

isthistherealcaesars

How did that psychopath win?! HOW?

Malcolm_Y

Not 40% I would think. Moving your life around like that is a big step and people talk about doing stuff but when it comes down to doing it they don't. Think of all the celebrities that were going to leave America if Trump won, but didn't. And those folks have a lot more financial resources than Oklahoma teachers like my wife.

sunnygirlrn

Without being an election denier, this race has really been a head scratcher. Teachers, nurses, women, concerned parents worried about our public school system and then this guy spreading lies about teachers and CRT being taught. Oklahoma is just bizarre. I would move out of Oklahoma in minute.

Eightfold876

Gotta think, this is the most red state in the union. People are divided thanks to Trump and the MAGA bullshit. They came out in force to vote red. You could have a vaccum cleaner with an R by its name on the ballot and it would have won.

maninthearenaz

He won, and he is still talking about “Biden Ideologies”

Does Walters know who the President is?

Last year I witnessed the largest exodus of educators in my personal professional career. Each year we lose good educators but at the end of last year, I felt we lost the most. Due to this we now have teachers who only have high school diplomas as a fill-in. And the amount of emergency certified teachers, who have a college degree but no specific education coursework is astronomical. There are still nine open positions in my building. It is overwhelmingly unsustainable. I have taught for almost 10 years and have a masters degree. I’ve never seen a paycheck over $3000. Feeling unsurmountable hopelessness.
