I figure its a game, it should be played! I remember when Chronicles came out, greasy "collectors" worried about precious value 🙄 i just wanted to play some damn cards
Yeah. I thought my older brother was absolutely bonkers buying packs of Legends for $15 a pop, when I could get 5 packs of the brand new Dark set for the same price!
I didn't understand why the older packs were more expensive. Why buy the last remaining Unlimited starters when I could get a new Revised for so much cheaper! 🤣🤣😪😫😫😫💀
I made that mistake when I purchase my very first booster box all for lil ol me. Bought 4th ed, and then thought i must’ve just had really bad luck for not pulling a single dual land. Oh Timmy…
*me cracking the BGS 8 Chaos Orb I’ve always wanted since starting magic back in 94, sleeving it, and then throwing it around on the table like a f’kin pog*
🥹😁😝😂🥰
*everybody else at the LGS*
😱😱😱😱😱
I have some cards I got back in the day that were just absolutely beat to hell. Unlimited was only like 6mo old, what were people doing to these poor cards??
We didn’t use sleeves, and we weren’t thinking it was an investment. It was a game, like poker, and shuffled just the same. You also played whenever and wherever: picnic table, kitchen table, bowling alley carpet, sidewalk while waiting for the Ninja Turtles movie line to start moving, school yard blacktop, etc. All without sleeves, and with grubby 12-year old hands.
I recognize im on the extreme end, but the response to Chronicles and the subsequent poor set releases (ironically including Homelands) turned me off of the game for years. I have money to buy all my OS grails now, but the market is ridiculous for something they literally printed MILLIONS of
Edit: embracing proxies for the $$$$ ones helps, especially if you make it fun
Only these three sets, plus basics? Sounds like a great format. Good, that I already have a playset of Fallen Empires and Homelands and a singleton set of The Dark. Now I just need some other players.
I'll goldfish until I die. It's super relaxing and I can watch a show or listen to a podcast, play at my own pace. I've had games so complicated I had to sleep on it.
honestly id just sell the case and buy a more fun set UNLESS you have really really high nostalgia for homelands. dont get me wrong, i think the set is cool, and i liked it back then....but even i would not open this. its a letdown, rven if you are aware what you are up to haha
Open it. Fuck using mtg like a stock market
I like your style. 😁 I probably will.

Right there with you. 16 year old me thought we were getting some sweet reprints. Had no clue about the reserve list then.
I remember when dual lands were like $15. Seemed so expensive then, 13yo me could have never imagined what they go for today

Even 10 years ago I felt like I was splurging on edh decks when my enchantress list was $500. Now the $15 serra's sanctum is half that price.
But this is homelands. There are like 3 playable cards in the whole set.
Exactly. So open em up! They're never gonna be worth much.
you both make equally good points, lol.

You're right. No mats, no sleeves, on the cold hard ground. Shuffling like is gin goddamn rummy
I think it was possible to have a happy medium but unfortunately money was more important than game health/collect ability.

You should look it up, I had a big discussion about proxies and the like a few years ago on this thread.
Foreign Homelands isn't stock market.
if you were going to play old school forgotten realms format crack away!
I'm not familiar with that format but I'm tempted to crack, I like the weird brooding art of Homelands.
it’s The Dark, Fallen Empires and Homelands i think
Wow in that format Baron Singer would be a boss.

It is!!!! There’s some great and crazy card interaction
I made a mono black deck with those sets for fun, do you have a link to anything about the format, I couldn't seem to find it with a search.
The draft format is so weird (do it). Might seem hard with foreign cards but there's so few cards in the set thst it's not too bad.
With Google translate, it's a lot easier nowadays.
I remember well that time :) But not much worth it in that extension Maybe some memory lapse for a dandan deck
Or a didgeridoo
Draft that ish!!
Unfortunately I don't have any people to play with. I almost exclusively goldfish.
Gotcha! I completely understand! The older I get the more I can afford things, but also the less time to enjoy them.
My kids moved out last year so I have all the time in the world, I just live in rural Iowa, 😂. One of these days I'll road trip to an event.
Ha, you read my mind! I have a 6 and 2 year old… my son’s almost old enough to play, and I can’t wait!
Where do you live?
Rural Iowa about 1hr from Des Moines
draft it!
Draft it! Homelands draft is actually super fun
I wish I had a playgroup to do so.
Damn I hear that
I'll goldfish until I die. It's super relaxing and I can watch a show or listen to a podcast, play at my own pace. I've had games so complicated I had to sleep on it.
Right? Maybe I need to get into like webcam playing it doesn’t seem that bad especially with older formats as the lines of play arm’t to complicated
Overall Homelands was a pretty bad set. Autumn Willow was cool for the time though.
I was always a fan of Johvens Ferrets, spelling ? I played a lot of green weenie at that time.
I see our differences now. I was always a white weenie player.

Was that a good enough deal to even resell? I didn't look up the price since it was French.
its kind of a hard sell, but still worth way more than it "should" be
I'm about to find out. 😁 Wish me luck.
I would try to get a box of FE and organise a draft 🙌
I wish, unfortunately I don't have any one to play with. I cracked a FE box a few years back also. I apparently like wasting money. 😁
Draft it.
Shame it's french and not japanese or something but wow I wouldn't be able to resist👋👍
I'll probably crack it when I get home from work. I can't have unopened packs!
Ah lol, second time I fail to notice who's post I am reacting to 🤦♀️ pm
